Came here after reading the reviews on yelp and was not disappointed! Food was tasty, you can order it at the bar with your drinks or just head straight to the food truck inside. I loved the bean and cheese burrito, the asada tacos were greasy and I would avoid them. Fish tacos were good. They do charge extra for the sauces and I found most weirdly sweet. The Habanero one was good. Now for the best part: the drinks here rock! Note that they make extra strong drinks and I was happy after just one spicy margarita. Service is friendly and they do have a dog friendly patio. I will definitely be back when I'm visiting Oceanside next time. read more

Sancho's is the hands-down winner of my O-side taco tour. I compared Carne Asada and fish tacos and black beans & rice at two competing taco shops. Sancho's OG beef was lean & tender, nicely seasoned and not buried in onions. Grilled fish was adequate, but not distinguished. Next time, I will try batter-fried fish. Corn tortillas were big enough to hold a generous portion. Crema sauce on both was rich and tangy. Atmosphere was surprisingly boozy at 7pm on a Thursday. Frat party loud. I was alone and focused on the food, so no harm, no foul. But would have been disappointing if I was there to chat with a friend or a date. Tacos were super goood! Fish tacos were by far the best. They have traditionally beer battered, carne asada (slightly sweet but really good flavor), surf and turf (shrimp and carne). The shop seems to be integrated well into the community of Oceanside. It's not your cheapest Mexican food option but they have great food options. Stopped by for the first time on Cinco de Mayo I've always wanted to try this spot. Overall, it was a half-and-half experience for me, but my wife absolutely loved it. When we walked in, my 7-year-old asked, "Why is it so dirty here?" I explained it was mostly the decorations. Very festive but a little chaotic. You can definitely feel the energy, and judging by the reviews, people love this place. For the first time ever, I actually liked the chicken more than the carne asada. The carne asada didn't really hit the mark for me almost like something was off, or maybe they mixed up my order. At $5 a taco, I expected a little more flavor. The chips were great, definitely a highlight with pork and beans. That said, the place didn't feel like a truly authentic taqueria to me. It has a certain style that seems geared more toward tourists and the general local population, if you know what I mean. Felt cooperate. My 11-year-old, who's pretty picky these days, had a breakfast burrito and funny enough, his burrito was actually better than my carne asada tacos. Drinks were on point enjoyed a strong, tasty $10 margarita. The bar and food areas are separated, which felt odd at first, but it works once you get used to it. Service - bartender was super nice everyone else was always a bit feeling the 5 O Clock rush at one point there is no register clerk because she was clearing tables. All in all, a good experience. Right off the bat, immediately noticeable friendly service. First time visitor and the solo employee confirmed the surf and turf tacos were his favorite. Ordered two to go. Wasn't even waiting 5 minutes before they were ready! Walked to my spot on the beach about 0.5 miles away before trying. Tacos are slightly larger than street sized and just by picking them up, I noticed they do not skimp out on the meat portions. Sauces are slightly spicy but flavorful! Decent tacos, good vibes. The flavors were bland though....I was disappointed in the OG taco. The meat was dry and tough... and there wasn't a lot of cilantro or onions. I also wish I asked for more limes. I know it could be better, so maybe they just had a bad day. The flavors for the sauces also fell short for me because I like spicy, these ones were sweet... but if you're not a spicy person this is perfect for you! I also had the fried fish taco, and that unfortunately fell short for me again too, just felt bland... I would consider trying it again though when I visit next time! In general, Sancho's Tacos is a good spot. Whimsically decorated, one can enjoy the vibe or sit outside and watch the street life outdoors. Boasting a full bar, one can have a drink as well as a meal. The food itself is pretty good. It is clearly a menu catering to more "safe" tastes. That means that the taco and burrito choices are fairly limited, but they are of a sufficient quality that one doesn't mind too much. Everything I have tasted here shows that they use good ingredients, are skilled in preparation, and know how to present minimalistic but appetizing plating. In general, I have zero complaints about the food. They also offer a number of south of the border alcoholic and non-alcoholic potables. In what they offer, it is very well done. They do, however, lose some points for price. Being close to the ocean probably means some pretty big rents for the purveyors of ST, but the costs puts this eatery in the tourist category. We're talking about 20-30% more expensive than your average taqueria. And that leads to the question: can one get similar fare in the area for considerably less money? The simple answer is yes. The coastline of SD county is frankly littered with the same quality of food for considerably less. So, I can't see myself returning to Sancho Taco's unless someone else insists...and is footing the bill. read more

Everyone kept saying this place has the best Mexican food in town, but it wasn't that good. And that's coming from a Mexican. $25 for a wet burrito and a coke is wild. The burrito itself was lacking seasoning on the meat so it tasted bland and the salsa roja was more on the sweeter side. Some spice would've helped out the sauce. Services was fine. We were on vacation, staying at a beach house right in the strand. So we were looking for food that was walking distance away to enjoy the beautiful weather. We saw sancho's tacos was highly rated and decided to give it a try. Now, we're Mexican but understand that tacos here may not meet the expectations of a carne asada taco from Hermosillo, or a al pastor from Tijuana or CDMX. However, we were very disappointed with the tacos here. Despite being a good size and filled with lots of salsas and toppings, it simply lacked taste. I saved the fish taco for last, presuming it would be the best tasting since we were miles away from the coast - nope. The same experience as the other tacos. The location is cool. We didn't have any drinks so maybe those are solid. If you think you'll enjoy it I still always encourage people to check out restaurants, but our experience was not a positive one. read more

Just an update to my prior review. We stopped in here yesterday (Sunday) mostly because Johnny Mañana's was packed full and couldn't find a table. I have not been to Sancho's in quite a while and we just wanted a fish taco and a beer. Upon finding a seat, I grabbed a menu and noticed right off the bat, there are no prices on the menu. At Sancho's, you have to order from the register inside the VW bus. I ordered two fried fish tacos, and two beers. The total came to $34. At Johnny Mañana's, a fried fish tacos is $3.50, so here it's double. Granted, the fish taco was very good. Large but most of that is cabbage and tomato. $16 for two tacos is a bit high. The beers were roughly $8 each. For Mother's Day, it was pretty empty inside. We were able to find a barstool that overlooked the street and just took in the activity of the day. Beer was good. Taco was good. There is no A/C, so if it's hot & sticky outside, it'll be hot & sticky here. Just a fair warning. read more

The tri tip and shrimp were so yummy, but the chipotle had a lot of kick to it- great flavor but it over powered the flavor of shrimp and tri tip! I tried it with the Chubby sauce and that was a sweeter sauce which i preferred. The chips were some of the best i'd ever had and the salsa was great!! The man taking our order was so kind! Surf and turf burritos had steak strips, shrimp, rice and beans. You pick the salsa sauce and we picked rioja which is mild, sweet and sour. You can split the burrito with another person. ($18) We also ordered grilled fish tacos which is just an appetizer $7 that came with cabbage, pico sauce. There's a patio outside which is nice. The furniture is dated. Bathroom is very clean. So disappointed, really weird take on an authentic taco, the pictures look great but that's where it ends. The og is the most nastiest thing I've ever tasted, the meat was chewy and just plain disgusting, the sauce was sweet and the tortilla was just a cheap Mission tortilla fried in oil. The Flaco taco was a veggie taco , it was edible but again had that cheap oily tortilla, maybe if they made their own tortillas and didn't fry them it would be better but come on now, idk who would actually like that taste when there's places 1000% more authentic and cheaper around. The best steak nachos & steak quesadilla we have ever had ! It's a unique restaurant you place your order at the bus inside the restaurant then they bring your food out to you . The steak is super tender marinated in their chubbie sauce which is a sweet green chili sauce . It is delicious! The nachos have a lot of steak , cheese, beans , sweet onions & cilantro . Over priced and under flavored. I tried 3 different tacos and only one was ok. But what really threw me off was the sign at the register letting me know I cannot have extra salsa "because it's already on the taco". And if I wanted extra, it would be $1. Not a great start to feel yelled at and price gouged at the same time. And after eating mediocre tacos, that's what I wanted - to try and make it taste better. Maybe I didn't order the right menu item here but tacos are nothing special. I had the grilled fish (best one), the chicken taco (nothing remarkable) and the carne asada (zero flavor and rather tough meat). Disappointing especially for the price. Oh and this didn't come with a fork and I needed one and no one bothered to check on me while I was dining. This is a bar/restaurant or more of a bar that sells a little food? The decor is quirky and it is open-air with windows that open to patio seating. Staff was friendly. With so many choices for tacos (more than one just a few steps away), I don't think it's worth coming here. There are cheaper better tasting options within a few blocks. Fun beachy vibes with colorful artwork. It was spacious and had an outdoor seating area. Inside there was a full bar as well as beers on tap. Everything I order was staff favorites. Chips & salsa: - Chips were fresh. - Hectors was a spicy Verde salsa. It is made w habanero and had good flavorful heat. I did not find it as spicy as I would have thought. Spice level 7/10 - 5150 was sweet and spicy. It had a great kick of flavor and not overpowering. I felt that this had more heat than the Hector's salsa. I enjoyed this on my tacos. Spice Level 8/10 Tacos: - Flounder tacos were tender and had great flavor. The sauce was creamy, and the cabbage was fresh. 7/10 - Flaco tacos were a vegetarian option. It had mushrooms which were cooked perfectly but didn't have anything special. Artichokes were charred and I really liked that. It had a smokey flavor. Spinach was fresh. It sounded better than it tasted. 6/10 Surf & Turf was a steak and shrimp taco that was the best of all three. The shrimp had a delicious mesquite flavor. The steak was kind of "ehh" nothing really special flavor wise but tender and not chewy. The chipotle sauce was the real winner it tied everything together. 8/10 Definitely a spot I would like to return too. Service was great, staff was very helpful and friendly. This establishment is located in a business park, which is unusual enough, but it gets stranger as you walk in and head to the back to find limited seating and unapproachable, unwelcoming staff. The individuals there seemed peculiar and lacked energy. Ignoring these factors, we decided to try their recommended selections and pick a game from the shelf. I was surprised to find that still mead wasn't available; instead, all their meads were carbonated like their ciders. Being accustomed to more traditional mead, I was disappointed that none of them had a noticeable honey flavor. It felt like they were primarily selling ciders, with a few having subtle mead-like notes. I wouldn't recommend this place. Best steak (cali way) burrito I've had in a while! Maybe ever? It was delicious, and one burrito is definitely enough for two people in my opinion. Or for leftovers later! The fish tacos were super fresh, too- but you have to eat those fast or else the tortilla gets soggy and falls apart. The food is delicious, I have had nothing but excellent service at the many locations I have been to and the beer in the downtown Oceanside location has excellent selection, oh, and a decently stocked bar. Even as a self-proclaimed meatatarian, the Flaco taco makes me so happy because all of the vegetables are delicious. The Cali-guey burrito is a close second to my favorite item on the menu. Actually, it switches depending on mood. My daughter ate here with me yesterday and loved the surf and turf burrito and even used salsa for the first time in memory. Sancho's tacos is my go to Mexican spot when I come to Oceanside. I love the carnitas plate which comes with rice, beans, guacamole, your choice of tortillas and pico de gallo. I don't like guacamole and they are always kind enough to substitute the avocado for avocado slices. You get hearty portions and quick service. The staff is friendly and it's a hole in the wall type of establishment so please don't come expecting bells and whistles. You will find good food, hearty portions at an affordable price. read more
