Back in the SD area means a mandatory visit to The Taco Stand. The Cali burrito (substituting for al pastor is a GAME CHANGER) will always be my go-to, but the mar y tierra burrito is up there too. They never skimp out on the meat! Great prices, generous portions, and delicious flavors as usual. Every made-to-order item tastes consistently fresh. The salsa bar was well stocked and clean. Don't skip on the chipotle sauce and cilantro crema, which elevate every bite no matter what you put it on. This Oceanside location is my new favorite; I've visited the Encinitas and North Park locations and the food quality was equally as good, but the parking, ambiance, and amount of seating (both indoor and outdoor) are overall better at this one. There is a small parking lot area and street parking is also available. We came on a busy Friday evening with the line way out the door, but found street parking pretty easily. Went here based on my college student niece recommendation. The students aren't wrong, this place was yummy. Since it was a semi big group of us I got to try a little of everything . The tacos were good I tried chicken and steak, steak was better of the two to me. I also got to try a few different salsa with chips - solid salsa bar. I also got an elote which was meh mushy and overcooked. Finally, we shared a few orders of churro with dip it was super delicious. I'm going to remember that one. We left home too late on our trip to San Diego and got hungry while driving through Oceanside. Being a "tacos- any-day" kind of couple, we stopped at the Taco Stand for a quick lunch. Located at the south end of the city, the stand alone restaurant had its own parking lot large enough for 20 cars. Inside, the combo of tables and counter could accommodate 30 guests, and there was also outdoor seating for 30 more. The line was long but it moved pretty fast. The overhead menu by the cashier was simple and easy to understand. For this visit, we ordered 6 different tacos (corn tortillas only) and they were ready in about 15 minutes: Pescado (Mahi Mahi) and Shrimp Tacos: Both tacos came with pleasantly creamy sauce similar to Thousand Island, plus chopped tomatoes, cabbage, and a slice of avocado. Both fish and shrimp pieces were fresh and with very nice textures. Carne Asada and Pollo Asado Tacos: The beef (carne asada) was soft and perfectly seasoned, and the slightly charred chicken (pollo asado) was tender and savory. The creamy avocado and chopped fresh onions went extremely well with the tacos. El pastor Taco: This was my favorite taco. The marinated pork meat was tender and succulently fatty. The creamy sauce with pineapple bits gave a nice counterbalance to the meat. Mushroom: The sauce was flavorful, and the sauteed mushrooms had a nice texture and were quite juicy. The slice of avocado gave the taco a nice creaminess. Overall, a very nice meal and totally worthy of repeating. read more

I know they make everything made to order but they do take a bit to get your order, so don't come here if you are in a hurry. We came here for lunch on a Sunday and scored parking right in front. Also got lucky and beat the lunch rush as a long line formed right after we ordered. I got a Camaron ($4.69) and Al Pastor ($3.99) Taco with the Carne Asada Fries ($10.59) to share. The tacos are filling and I like all the variety of toppings it includes. The first time I came here, it was fantastic. The second time, they were just as busy as the first but somehow they left major ingredients out of my order and it really soured my evening. Fish in my tacos was under cooked. Not the best to say the least. Decided to try again. This time I pre ordered online. They were busy as always. Confusing for sure on how to pick up online orders. Got in the long line w/ all the other peep i see picking up. Why pre ordered if u have to wait in line at the register? Grab my tacos togo. Cold and soggy. Disappointment!! I have been wanting to come here hearing the rave about this taco stand. I know they have one in Encinitas but I was in Carlsbad and saw they opened new one in Oceanside. This is the Oceanside location. The food was delicious! Although at beginning price seems high for a piece but the quantity they put on each one was very decent. We ordered the following: pescado taco (mahi mahi fish), carne asade taco, al pastor taco, al pastor burrito, carne asada tostada. We find the al pastor the best and very tasty! They also have salsa bar and we like their salsa Verde, chipotle sauce, and Pico de gallo. Indoor and outdoor seating. Love the Latino music playing, makes me feel like no need to travel to Mexico. What is awesome about this place is they make their tortillas fresh! They have a machine that makes it and immediately puts them on the grill. Their tortilla chips are also freshly made too! The guy behind the kitchen was very sweet! He was so nice to let me take pictures and he gave a free fresh tortilla off the grill to try. I felt bit shy but humbly accepted it. While we were waiting, he was so kind to give us a box of tortillas to eat while we waited for our food. THE TACO STAND was busy late Saturday afternoon when we stopped by. that's (almost) always a good sign. place is open, clean, well organized, and the staff is friendly and engaging. the wife unit raved about her tacos (sautéed mushrooms and carne asada) but my BAJA BURRITO (fried fish, cabbage, chipotle crema, and salsa fresca) was no bueno. there was only one texture (mushy) and zero flavor even with the chipotle crema and a squeeze of lime. being our first visit, I checked out what everybody else was eating (we ate outside on the patio) and everything looked amazing so I'm gonna fall and the sword here and blame my ordering. should have leaned into the old standbys and gone a little less risky. should have skimmed the reviews more carefully. an awful lot of the recent five-star reviews are from Yelpers with only one review and no profile photo. will know better next time. ps: they have beer and make churros to order !!! read more

Service is not good (They lost my order). I had already tipped and now I won't tip for food that hasn't already been served. They should not have a tip option before you get your food. I had read reviews of them losing orders thinking that wouldn't happened to me but they did. We waited in a small line, got to the front and had to wait more then placed our order After 30 minutes of waiting for our food (a day it was not crowded) and seeing many people who arrived after get there i asked and sure enough they had lost our order. Tasty tacos. The flavors were great, albeit a bit on the saltier side. The paper thin fresh corn tortillas and creamy cilantro salsa were fantastic. Skimpy tacos. While it tasted good, the portions were small like mini 2-3" tacos. They flatten the tortilla and it looks like a 4-5" taco, but they pinch the ends flat and don't fill it, so the amount of protein in the pic is literally all the protein, nothing stacked behind that. The Baja fish taco was also mostly batter. I usually eat two tacos per meal, but would need four here. Long wait times. We thought we got lucky and only had one order before us. But turns out there was a huge backlog, and it took 40 minutes to get our order. They were up front that there was a 20-25 minute wait, so we browsed Mark Wahlberg's Municipal store next door.
