Wowza! I'm so excited about the Pit Stop I was there three times in two weeks!! I have to slow down so I won't kill it, but it's definitely worth everyone trying. It's openly visable on the corner of Mission and El Camino. I pass it twice a day and I've been meaning to try it out for a while. The stars just didn't align until two weeks ago when I finally had the chance to pop in for a quick dinner. First off, I was almost disappointed. Please note, I said ALMOST. I was expecting a proper diner with a waiter/ess to take my meal. I was skeptical when I had to walk up to the counter an order, but I didn't let it deter me. The menu is typical diner fare, but it also has breakfast items (served all day, I believe) and an extensive hot dog menu. Not my thing, but it's creative just the same. We placed our order, took a number and headed to one of the many automobile themed tables. Dinner came out quickly, but more importantly, it was delicious! We had the Pit Stop burger, fries, grilled cheese (on sourdough), fried mushrooms and fried zucchini. All of it was piping hot and SO GOOD. I was immediately impressed and we went back two days later, and then again last weekend. The burgers are great, so are the wraps, and even the breakfast omlettes are phenomenal. So far, I haven't noticed one bad thing about the Pit Stop, and I'll be happy to swing by there every week when it's in the budget. They're affordable and have great portions for the price, so it's definitely worth checking out, and more than once if you live within 15 minutes for sure. Honestly I was trying to decide if I should write a review or not about this place, but after going and seeing the reviews and that this place had 4 stars! I feel like I need to. Service was about as exciting as going to a funeral home. I was really looking forward to getting their Outlaw burger with onion rings on the side but instead got an over cooked thin hockey puck with onion rings that taste like you're eating chalk. The theme isn't anything to write home about. It's really just someone who nailed up a bunch of license plates and decided their "classic" car needed to be parked in the middle. I have been coming to pit stop for more than a decade now, and as far as Diners are concerned, there is nothing better. The food is always excellent, they have a wide variety and very fair pricing for the portions, their ranch is the best! Their customer service is also Top Notch, the cooks seem friendly, and there is a husband and wife duo who run the front of house and take excellent care of anyone coming in, they really are awesome. Love the interior of this place. Food and menu reminds me kinda of a Waffle House back home but obviously the atmosphere is entirely different. They have a variety of shakes, breakfast items, burgers, sandwiches, etc. I was pretty hungry and got the steak dinner. It came with a salad, a dinner roll, steak and fries. Even though I was extremely hungry, I didn't finish my food. Nothing was amazing.. but the portion of the food for the price was well worth it. Arrived in Oceanside around lunch time and was looking for a place we could grab a bite with our 4 grandchildren, their parents and my wife. "Let's give the Pit Stop Diner a try". Entering you notice it is a themed restaurant with car props that take you back to the days of Route 66. Spacious with plenty of tables to accommodate our party of 8, we venture to the line and order our lunch. The menu is expansive and provides choices to even the most pickiest of eaters. Money taken at the counter, drink cup in hand we self serve drink and sit down. Food is brought to the table in a timely manner and we begin the feast. My lunch choice was the Club Sandwich which came with fries. It was huge, came with a side of Ranch and the horrible condiment known as ketchup. The sandwich was tasty and fries were just ok. My wife enjoyed her grilled chicken wrap and the grands enjoyed their chicken nuggets, corn dogs and grilled cheese. Prices are reasonable and even cheap if you compare to the Bay Area. We enjoyed Pit Stop Diner and see ourselves returning again when we visit our family in Oceanside. Cool place, good food, decent service and reasonable prices. We enjoyed! read more

This place deserves zero stars! My wife and I decided to come here before our flight home and decided to get the steak and eggs plate for myself and the bacon and eggs for my wife. When I received my steak it was entirely raw with a beyond flimsy sear on the outside of it. I was also given a plastic knife and fork to attempt the Olympic level feat of trying to cut this mooing peace of meat. After finally getting a piece cut off the entirety of the inside was purple raw and gross smelling. As I attempted to approach the man in the front and tell him it was raw he kept reassuring me that it was a "perfect medium rare" as I told him I've eaten medium rare my entire life, he again reassured me that this is a "New York style steak" as if that changes the fact that this thing is purple raw and gross. then as I sat down in frustration he pointed at me and smiled to his co workers when he thought I wasn't paying attention. My friend and I were in a diner food mood and Pit Stop was 100% what we needed! The owners are so sweet, really helpful with recommendations (ask for the fries extra crispy!), and the food was amazing. We got the Outlaw burger, spicy chicken sandwich, side of fries, and chocolate shake - everything was great quality & super filling. The restaurant decorations are so fun - colorful road signs, license plates, posters, etc. - and the space is a great size to feel like you have your own space but still appreciate the bustle of a popular stop. We also heard they have live music twice a month, so that on top of the awesome food means we'll definitely be back! read more

With that out of the way, I still love this place even though the management may have changed. Big breakfasts, enormous salads and a decent steak sandwich (good, not great). The banana split is massive and delicious; can easily feed 6 or more. One caveat: it can be loud. Real loud. Like, boiler room loud. Especially on a Sunday morning when large families are there for breakfast, with all the little ones yelling and parents yelling louder just to be heard over the increasing din. This is really bad in the overflow room, when you get a couple families of 14 at the long tables - you're not going to hold a conversation in there. My wife was very upset at first but after calling Pit Stop and informing them of the error, the owner personally drove to our place and delivered us our correct order and even added a banana split (which is the best banana split btw)! I was amazed with how fast he diffused the situation and made things right. The food was amazing and fresh. The Pit Stop Diner has been around for a while now here in Oceanside. I believe they are on their second owner now. The decor has stayed the same over the years. The inside is lined with license plates from all over the states and cool vintage signs. They always have a cool classic car inside the dining area. I've heard people saying it isn't the same as it used to be, before the owner change. Well I haven't noticed a difference to be honest with you. The place can still get busy and they have good food at reasonable prices. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers and they are all usually around or under 5 bucks. They classic diner grill and food which is always satisfying. I recently tried the steak sandwich with chili cheese fries. They were both good and your typical burger grill taste and quality. I do like this place and think it's good but nothing stand out as great to me yet. I will continue to eat here and try everything on their menu!! read more

Went here for a work lunch. This place is definitely a hole in the wall diner. There are car parts all over which is pretty cool but the food isn't much more than simple diner food. They do have some veggie options but nothing unique. There is a cashier you order from who will give you a number to take to your seat. The service was pretty quick and friendly. I got the veggie wrap with no cheese; it was alright, but again like I said before there was nothing special about it. This would be a cool place to take kids or someone who really enjoys cars. Three words: Pit Stop Cafeteria. We moved to Oceanside just before COVID and have been waiting to try this place after seeing all the good reviews. The service was great and the staff there were very helpful. The girl who took our order was very nice and did a great job. Our disappointment started with the self-serve coffee which had a stale taste and was watery. As we waited for our food my wife couldn't help but notice how the room felt like a cafeteria. I mentioned the reviews and couldn't help but think, well the food MUST be good. Our breakfast came out lukewarm, the butter didn't melt on the pancakes. They had a very odd, fake taste (almost like a Twinkie) and were very dry. To me, it was the taste of frozen pancakes that aren't made fresh. Our hashbrowns were underdone and weren't properly browned. The eggs were overcooked and brown on the bottom with very little flavor. The sourdough toast was cold and tasted like white bread. We were also very surprised that EVERYTHING came in disposable to-go packaging, SO MUCH PLASTIC. Tiny individual ketchup packets, syrup, butter, plasticware, jelly. We live in Oceanside, you might think people here would care about the impact these products have on the ocean. I guess COVID is the excuse... I want to give a huge shout out to the new owners of our local Pit Stop. I have been there many times with my family, friends, and co-workers since it opened. A few years ago the quality of the food was not good. The prices had gone up, the portions were smaller, and the food seemed old. We pretty much stopped going there. What a unique diner!! I made a pit stop in the Carlsbad and decided to swing by and check out Pit Stop. Their burgers are solid. The beef patties are well charred and tasty. The bacons are well cooked, crispy. The bottom buns get a little soggy with moisture from the shredded lettuce and tomato. The interior is so spacious and just beautifully decorated with that cool and fun diner vibe wherever you look. Staff is friendly and courteous. Do expect a little wait. We came in at 1:30p on a Monday and there were several big groups and tools a good 20 mins to get our order. Worth the wait though.
