Pine state biscuits is my favorite fried chicken biscuit in Reno! My favorite is the Reggie with a piece of fried chicken and gravy on a biscuit. The gravy options are mushroom vegetarian or meat gravy. You can also get a combo gravy which I recommend. The biscuit is fresh, fluffy and buttery. The chicken cooked perfectly with a juicy center and crispy outside. This is also a very covid friendly restaurant with social distancing enforced. And you can get to go orders. Also this is the best cinnamon roll that I have had in my life! It's not overly sweet with just the right amount of salt. The bourbon Carmel sauce has an incredible depth of flavor. read more

This was my second time at Pine State and just like the first time they didn't disappoint! I had the shrimp and grits which could've been a bit better had it come out hot I was a little disappointed that it wasn't hotter and the shrimp appeared to precooked however the grits and sauce made up for those small inconveniences.. We also tried the Reggie which is a biscuit with fried chicken sausage gravy and American cheese and it didn't disappoint the biscuit was thick and fluffy then sandwich was so good all together it might look small but it definitely doesn't leave you needing more! If you enjoy a good hardy breakfast brunch this is the place! I can't leave without saying the Apple Butter is a must! Writing this post has me wanting more! Great find close to the Row. This little gem of a place is self serve so keep that in mind. You place your order at the counter grab the utensils and napkins and find a table coffee and water is self serve too. The message board asks you to bus your own table for the next customer. The sitting area of the restaurant is well lit with large glass windows and street parking. With all this in mind the Food makes up for the self service many times over. I had the hash browns with mushrooms onions and topped with an egg, my friend had a chicken sandwich and a side of pancakes. I myself don't order pancakes anywhere I'm not a pancake person however my friend said try one from his side order of two and I was amazed how good they make them with a bit of crispness texture and I will definitely recommend them to anyone who likes pancakes and those too who need pancake conversion. Beautiful restaurant, with modern rustic furniture. The smell that filled the place when you walk in gives a hint of what's coming. We ordered the Bourbon caramel cinnamon roll which was gooey, sticky and the bourbon caramel is da bomb, beignets two ways sugar and cinnamon, Reggie Deluxe biscuits with a fried egg, and a single blueberry cornmeal pancake which had crispy edges. Definitely comparable to the Portland locations. Would recommend ordering online then picking up. The place is pretty small and seating was limited. The line was loooong! Ordering online was a breeze. It gave us a projected 45-minute pick-up time. We picked up around 11:45am, and there were plenty of parking on the Main Street. Unlike the Portland locations, there wasn't any instructions on pick-up procedures. That was a bit confusing, but we were finally able to flag someone down to help us. Even though we showed up about 5-minutes after our pick-up time, we waited another 10-minutes for our food. Food-wise, everything was delicious. I got the supped up hash browns and added a spicy fried chicken. Best decision ever! The Reno location definitely hit our Pine State cravings without having to make the trek to Oregon. read more

What a gem! I don't know if this is just me, but I feel like biscuits are an unassuming menu item anywhere. A whole eatery dedicated to biscuits did not excite me, but I decided to give in to my partner's preferences as a good old, southerner and give this place a try. Parking on a Monday morning was surprisingly easy to find if you don't mind paying the meter. If you're pinching pennies, like me, a little drive/walk will allow you to find you free parking with no problem. Upon entering, you'll notice a little waiting area, but not sure for what, as you have to order at the register before sitting down. I wasn't quite prepared so I decided to on a classic with a twist biscuit with mushroom gravy. My partner got a biscuit sandwich. He got cold brew coffee and I got serve yourself hot coffee. The first cup I got was not my favorite and actually might've been the only time I've found myself saying, "I don't like this coffee." My caffeine addiction didn't let me waste it though. My second cup of some unlabeled dispenser was much better. For a place that doesn't wait or bus their tables, I'd expect their coffee and condiment stations to be cleaner than they actually were. Typically I wouldn't say anything or care but I stained my jacket with hot sauce on the table reaching for utensils and that seemed preventable. My food was delivered in a timely fashion and while my partner's wasn't delivered crazy late, I did find the gap between my delivery and his to be odd. I wouldn't have noticed if both of ours came out later but seeing my food, smelling rather delicious, and just knowing it was getting cold because I didn't want to be rude and start eating without him was disappointing. After some time, though, and awkward looks from our table to the kitchen as we didn't know if we had been forgotten about, a staff member informed us that his food was delayed because they had run out of the sausage gravy and were making more. The manager or owner later followed up and deeply apologized and refunded our meal. This was super kind and unnecessary but much appreciated. It's this kind of service and attention to detail and wanting to do better that left me feeling really happy with this place. Not to mention, my plate was worth the wait as I can now say I am a fan of biscuits and gravy. Next time I'm in Reno, I know where I have to stop by and think you should too! read more

We've decided this is a must-visit spot every time we're in Reno; our meal was outstanding. Opted for the Reggie Deluxe--the moist biscuit paired well with the mushroom gravy, although a bit more gravy would've been perfect. The blueberry cornmeal pancakes were a highlight, and I appreciate the option for a single pancake. The Red Velvet Pop Tart was simply amazing, with a delicious pastry and moist red velvet cake batter inside. Arriving at 10:30 am on a Saturday, the line was already quite long, and our food took a while to arrive. Despite this, the experience was well worth the wait. There is limited seating and you can only grab a seat after ordering. The space in the restaurant is a little tight. The high chairs at the bar seating was surprisingly comfortable. PINE STATE! Haven't had it since my last Portland trip so it was must when we were in Reno. We got here 15 minutes after opening and the line was already out the door (Sunday morning)...I'm sure it's always like this! They offer both indoor and out door dining. Bar stool areas, booths, and tables. So good if you're by yourself or with a group. We picked a variety of items...The Reggie Deluxe was spot on and tasted just like we remembered in Portland. Other items we tried in Reno included: -Reggie Deluxe: IMO, the classic that you must try! I drown mine in hot sauce and it's so good. -Brisket Biscuit: This was okay! It was a decent bite but the portion was very small...especially compared to their fried chicken biscuits. For $13, I think I would have been happier with another Reggie. -Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes: OH MY, these were tasty. Cooked perfectly...very crispy and with a chewy middle. The whipped butter and syrup made it such a sweet and savory bite. -Cinnamon Bun: If you have a sweet tooth, this is a must get. I took like three bites and was really overwhelmed (in a good way). The caramel sauce that it's served with is really tasty. We only finished half of it and took the other half to-go to have with coffee later. Perfect way to enjoy it! However...if you are HANGRY...you may want to avoid. The long lines and wait times can be lengthy. Also it's a popular place, there may not be a table! The cashier said the pancakes will take about 20-25 minutes but it took almost 40 minutes for us to get our food. Just make a note! Also, I was surprised all the amount of rules that are posted all over the restaurant. "Stand Outside and Keep Door Closed", "Wait Your Own Table", "Booths are only for 5 or more", "No Saving Tables", etc. Again to me, it's common etiquette but seeing notes everywhere made it seem like I was housesitting for an overly cautious friend who likes to put up post-it notes everywhere (JUST SAYING!) We had quite a big takeout order and the staff were helpful and friendly. They only allow a certain amount of parties to be inside when ordering. There are distant markings on the floor to remind you about social distancing. There are a couple tables inside and outside to eat at. The staff did a great job at clearing and sanitizing the tables when a party would leave. We ordered a couple of the Reggies with sausage gravy on the side, a Reggie Deluxe, The McIsley, BBQ biscuit, biscuits with apple butter, shrimp and grits, and the seasonal (strawberry almond) pop tart. We tasted the Reggie Deluxe, McIsley, shrimp and grits, pop tart, and biscuits with apple butter. It was all good and comforting. It's a little bit messy to eat because the biscuit crumbles, but it is so worth it. The sandwiches are pretty filling. The fresh biscuits are so good by itself but even better with some of their apple butter. We had to bring most of the food back home to the family. Came here today from Dayton after seeing the restaurant featured on foodie.reno, unfortunately I should have done a little more research. You have to order your food at a counter before sitting down (like a fast food joint) I went ahead and left a tip thinking that once we sat down the rest of the experience would be like a typical restaurant. I was wrong. The food WAS brought out but you have to go get your own condiments and silverware. Then when you're done, you have to bus your own table! NOW, if the food was EXCELLENT I probably wouldn't gripe, but the food was meh. My daughter got the money ball, just a biscuit with gravy and a fried egg on top. It was cold. And the gravy is sweet so it's a strange combo. I got the shrimp and grits and it was bland. My son got the corn dog, and that was probably the best thing from all of it. The food is good here. But this review is based on service, the menu, and availability of items. I came on a Sunday around lunchtime. I asked what items they were out of and they were pretty much out of everything I could eat. I'm gluten free. Who runs out of a popular item like hashbrowns? I asked the cashier if the Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes were gluten free and she said I don't know and proceeded to look at the menu and said it was vegetarian. I suggested that she ask someone to be sure. She kind of snickered at me and said "uh okay" with attitude. The menu is great at highlighting vegan and vegetarian options, but not gluten free. For the cashier to not know and the menu not specifying what is gluten free or not, makes it quite difficult for someone with certain dietary restrictions to order. I ended up just ordering a sandwich to go for my husband. I waited for about 25 minutes, in the meantime, ordered food from another restaurant since Pine State Biscuits was not a good option for me. If you want to eat here and have the opportunity to order whatever you want, I would suggest going early before they sell out of everything. If you're a gluten-free person, this is not the place for you. There isn't really much you can eat. Don't waste your time trying to figure out what's gluten free or not on their menu. The customer service was pretty mediocre. There was a line going out the door and the cashier didn't have any sense of urgency. She had people waiting for long periods of time just to order their food. My experience with this cashier was not a good one for me. I am so excited that there's a Pine State in Reno! I've been wanting to try the Portland location for a long time. We lucked out in that we came late morning (around 11:30am) on a weekday and there wasn't a wait. We walked up the counter, ordered, and had our food in less than 15 minutes. We had: - Reggie Delux with both the meat and mushroom gravy -- I shared this with my nephew and was very filling. It was really good and the egg makes it even better! I would definitely get this again. I liked the meat gravy slightly more than the mushroom. - Biscuit Beignets - these were very good. We got mixed order of powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar. Both were great. They come with bourbon sauce. - Hot Cocoa with homemade marshmallows -- this was very rich and good They have limited outdoor seating. Street parking is easy. After reading several positive reviews we landed at PSB in Reno for an early breakfast of biscuits and gravy and mimosas. Both were perfect, perhaps the best gravy I've encountered outside of a southern zip code. The friendly wait staff kindly provided some history and apparently there is a bit of "southern" in the Pine State's history as their owners are transplants from North Carolina. Whatever their roots, PSB is the real thing and worth a visit when in NV. read more

This place is good but it's gotten ridiculously expensive. The portions of sides have gotten smaller as well. Don't get me wrong their food is definitely good but be prepared to spend a good amount of money. The service is ok not the friendliest. Portions are extremely small. The sausage gravy is more of a "onion gravy" going by the flavor. They had no hash browns the day I went . ( no potatoes!?) Considering you have to serve your own water and coffee, and go to the end of restaurant to put your dirty dishes in a plastic bin, separate your cutlery and put them in a container full of water, I expected prices to be lower since we're doing the job of a waiter/waitress. And then have the nerve to ask for a tip! A tip for what?! Came by last week to grab food as I work in down town, food is great. This morning a female employee with reddish brownish hair and a brown suv were in the middle of the alley way as I drove through the girl with the pine state biscuits shirt decided to flip me off. Great biscuits but they don't have real butter even though they think they do. If you know you know. They got really pissy with me when I asked if it was real and said it was. In my experience when a restaurant calls their butter "whipped butter", it is usually half real and half fake or totally fake which is why I asked. Surprised in the wrong way! Just meh and nothing to write home about! We were excited to try this place, because the photos and reviews on Yelp were very good, but instead we left feeling confused because the our experience was well below mediocre. We ordered "Reggie Deluxe", Shrimp & Grits, Hazelnut (Nutella) Pop Tart, French Fries and Coffee. We ordered 3 Reggie Deluxe (all eggs were cooked over hard which we did not request... ???, there was barely any gravy, which we had to order more gravy on the side), the Shrimp & Grits were a little watery, but still pretty good flavor, French fries were all soggy (not one fry was crispy), the coffee was not strong and I had to inform them that the container was empty (after waiting 15 minutes). Small place and you order before you take a seat. The food was perfect. I got the hash browns with all the stuff on it including an egg, my daughter got the blueberry cornmeal pancake, and my husband got the biscuits and mushroom gravy. The mushroom gravy was some of the best I've ever tasted and the hash browns we perfectly crispy and seasoned. Cornmeal pancake were perfect and didn't need syrup just butter and your good to enjoy. The reggie deluxe with some extra gravy on the side is what i ordered. The half mushroom gravy and sausage gravy gives the biscuits great flavors. Hash browns also came out crispy which i enjoyed. For sauces you have to serve yourself. They had a house hot sauce that gave a great kick to the food. For drinks I ordered the house lemonade.
