We were having a car serviced at a nearby dealership and decided to stop by Jack's while we waiting (it was a very short walk). Overall, it was great. Here is what we noticed: - Huge breakfast menu. - Nice open and airy atmosphere inside. - My wife and I split the Giant Breakfast Burrito, which was more than enough for two people. There was a $1 split charge, however, which we didn't learn about until we got the bill. - The burrito was very tasty inside with really good tortillas, although the tomato sauce on top tasted like canned sauce. The accompanying hash browns were extra crispy as we requested. - Service was great. - There is a discount given on your bill if you pay in cash. A Reno staple in the diner business. You should know what you're getting before you walk through the door. Quality cooked breakfast and diner foods though nothing will blow you away. I am a regular though I haven't done a review‍. The food is always good and reasonably priced. Service is also outstanding. That being said I tried the Avocado Toast this last time and was a bit disappointed, not traditional at all, just sliced avocado on a piece of toast with two poached eggs that were overcooked. My family and I came here on a whim after dropping our car off at the shop on a Saturday. We were immediately greeted and sat down at a comfortable booth. The menu is massive, so take your time deciding, we did. I ordered the special, which was a corned beef hash eggs Benedict, and I chose hash-browns over country potatoes. The eggs were perfectly poached and hollondaise was wonderful and perfectly citrusy with excellent consistency. The English muffin was normal and nicely toasted. The corned beef hash was a little mushy for my taste but some parts had some nice crispness and the dish pretty good flavor overall but the hash-browns were the star. I could tell they were freshly prepared/grated, and were perfectly tender crisp. The service was excellent and my family also enjoyed their meals. Coffee never ran dry. Overall, I'd go back. First time here, since jack's took over. I really enjoyed the Crepes they were delicious a d very well loaded. The biscuits and gravy, we're savory and very very delicious. I had the Denver omelet and was unfortunately disappointed. The bell pepper (which included green only) was raw-- like not just underdone, raw, raw. The cheese wasn't fully melted (and there was a ton of it in addition to the generous amount on top). The omelet was very oily inside, and quality control wasn't there as I found 1.) a random cilantro leaf inside and 2.) a spot of some brown goop that I'm hoping was just pan fond from possibly using a pan that was previously used to cook something else (like fajitas possibly?).... My toast was also not up to par. The wheat bread was dry and a bit brittle and the toast wasn't warm. The butter (or butter substitute?) had not melted in and was just sitting on top like a paste. Our food came out at different times too so I'd recommend if you are there with a group not doing the typical wait-for-everyone's-food-to-arrive-before-eating type of thing. The service felt mixed. Several different people came by often enough (to check for coffee refills, etc.) but some were not warm and did not greet us with a smile. That didn't feel very welcoming. The ambiance isn't impressive. The outside signage doesn't look very good just thrown on top of some older beat up golden arches, but at least the inside looked like it was flipped. I did like that the tables felt spaced out enough that I didn't feel like a server could risk bumping into me with a tray like I have felt at some busier restaurants where the tables are more tight. And random, but I did notice some Hawaiian music was playing as we entered through the set of double doors (perhaps a nod to the previous restaurant?). Overall I might give Jacks a chance again as it seemed to be a standard breakfast place (and I liked that there was no wait for our party of 6 on a Friday morning during spring break) but I will not be ordering a omelet again. read more

I waited 39 more minutes and had to leave, I am hypoglycemic, and I really needed some food. I came to Jack's just so I can get some food in my stomach. It is not extremely loud here. The conversations can be heard, but they are very low key. This place is closer to my house too. I do love the food at the other place, and their menu. However, the service of that location is the worst I have ever seen here in Reno at any restaurant. Especially since I was made to feel like it was my fault that they had not asked me what I wanted for breakfast, after giving me coffee... I will definitely be back here at Jack's as often as possible! It's five minutes from my home and I don't have to drive as far as I did today to try to get something to eat and expect decent service! This is my second time here at Jack's, and I am blown away. I will not be traveling very far going forward.! I will stick to the other three locations of the franchised restaurant that I usually go to for a meal, but never again the one mentioned in the above comments! When we arrived found the cafe to be less crowded than expected. It looked clean but had a unique odor. We were seated immediately and asked for drink orders with our menu. The service was good and prompt. My wife had the Denver Omelette with scones which look spectacular and she said was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with hash browns and sourdough toast. The chicken was good and seasoned well. The gravy was too thick and not very hot. I was not expecting gravy over the entire plate especially the hash browns. It was way too much gravy as you will see in the photo. TL DR: not a great experience for us. Food is okay, ambiance is okay, service was off- maybe a super busy day? Looking for a quick breakfast after some fun family activities at Rancho my family and I were looking for a nice breakfast/lunch spot. We've passed by Jacks multiple times on the road so we decided to give it a try. Ambiance: 3/5 I believe this restaurant used to be a chain so you can see the bones of that, but it's accommodating for small and large parties. And the tables were cleaned. Service: 1/5 Initially the waitstaff was super friendly and kind with offering suggestions and taking our order. However it went down hill from there. No one checked in on our table once, our waters were not filled, and no one asked how our food was during the meal. I know restaurants get busy and they can be under staffed but not sure I can justify that experience. We were also sharing and requested an extra plate from 2 different people whom we had to flag down, both forgot the plate. Disappointed in service. Food: 2.5/5 Comparable to those larger chains like Dennys but supporting a local business is the redeeming factor. The pancakes were okay but lacked some flavor. The bacon was crispy. The price point was slightly higher than competitors. The blueberry waffles were better. Yesterday we decided to try Jack's Cafe. Formally known as Lil's next to the Car Wash. I'll start off with the server. She was great and attentive so this review has nothing to do with the server. Now to the food. We orderd the traditional breakfast with French toast. Now I'll review the platter. I'm going to start with the sausage links. They were small something you would normally get 3 each but we only got 2. Now the eggs. You can tell if they are fresh eggs when scrambled you can see egg white and yellow yoke kind of separate. So I think it was your typical pre mixed pour and cook. You get a choice of hash browns or country fries of French toast. We ordered French toast. So here's my review on the French toast. I make French toast myself and always keep the toast in the mixture so the bread gets soaked not soggy but saturated. This toast was not even French toast but more like toast splattered with mix on top and put on the griddle. When I started to cut with my fork it couldn't cut into the French toast. I had to use my knife and the bread was never saturated with French toast mix. It was dry it was like a piece of toast. The bread never had a chance to absorb French toast mix. So for $15+ for each plate or $33 for 2 identical plates before tip. I'll sum it up it was a rip off. I think if it was Denny's and their Grand Slam was ordered at least I would have gotten 1 more sausage and better French toast. So Jack's get your stuff together and start serving a $15 breakfast and not a $6.99 special. read more

We had lunch at the Jack's Cafe's newest location on Kietzke Lane (the same space that the old Lily's restaurant once occupied). We arrived at the restaurant a little after they'd opened for lunch service, so crowds were still a little light, and our 4-person party was seated almost immediately. The menu was vast. it listed so many choices for breakfast and lunch items, plus a selection of appetizers and a limited selection of desser. After the bus-person returned with our drinks (diet Pepsis, a lemonade and an iced tea), we placed our food orders with our server: a Cheeseburger, the Clubhouse sandwich, a Patty-melt and a "Lo Que Sea" or "Surprise Me" Special platter (comprised of steak topped with grilled onions, eggs (any style), refried beans and rice, and a chile relleno-- which sadly at the time I ordered, they were out, so the server just gave us a discount on the price) plus your choice of flour or corn tortillas, or your choice of toast. The food was tasty and prepared well, the portion size was plentiful, and the price was reasonable. The service was attentive and polite; the young lady that served us was genuinely nice. The restaurant had been remodeled and has a black-and-white decor theme; it's sleek and modern, and looks clean. Got an iced tea which was a little cloudy and bitter. Order the "Man Handler", 2 pancakes, 2 eggs over medium and 2 sausage links. Pancakes were a little rubbery, eggs cooked to perfect and standard sausage links. All in all everything was exactly as I like to a breakfast joint. This place behind the car wash has been here for a while, I really love the inside of this restaurant!! but I don't know what happened yesterday, when we came in, we were greeted pretty fast, sat down, and we ordered an Arnold Palmer, it was more lemonade than iced tea, there's probably only a quarter of a cup of iced tea on top of the lemonade and we stirred it and it was just way too sweet! Darn it!! he definitely did not know how to make an Arnold Palmer!! we usually get a sandwich and fries and share, and then we get a soup or salad! I ordered a cup of chicken tortilla soup and the husband ordered chili! He did not like the chili and my soup was too thick for me, so he ate my soup! We ordered a BLAT and fries! It was nothing to write home about, because there was no presentation, I don't think he really even cared to make the sandwich. It looked awful, ingredients were small on the inside, and it just wasn't eventful. I guess you would call it.! It was just like dumped on the plate with the pile of fries and I don't think that chef really cared about it whatsoever! I don't think we'll be back here, the owner was whistling in it about ripped my ears off. It was so shrill, it just wasn't a very comfortable environment.! Very disappointing experience this morning. From the moment we walked in, the service felt cold and unfriendly. The person who seated us showed no warmth or basic customer service, and the tone was set right away. Our server came to the table without greeting us, asked for drinks, and when we said water, he said nothing and simply walked away. When he came back with the waters, he placed the glasses on the table very roughly. The whole environment felt uncomfortable and uninviting, unlike any other restaurant I have been to. I truly believe we were treated this way because we are Latinos. We decided to get up and leave and will not be returning. I hope this helps other people when deciding to go here! read more

I have not been to this Jack's in many years. I have been here long enough that I went here when it was a Sambo's restaurant. Pleased to see the place has been refreshed but not so much that it looked totally different, it looked as it always has and that's a good thing. Very attentive staff and the food we ordered was excellent. I don't say excellent usually, it was just a Denver omelet, a side of fruit and sourdough toast. The side of fruit was an option rather than an add on, really liked that. That omelet was cooked perfectly and I reiterate, my meal was excellent. I suspect I will make an excuse to go back and I know I will reorder that omelet. My son had the Rueben with a side of potato salad. I did try his potato salad and it tasted so chilled and so fresh. One minor thing that I very much enjoyed, the bill comes with a pen that has a pink ribbon rose on the top so you don't accidentally take it. Silly, but it really looked nice. My husband loved his plate of chicken fried steak and fluffy biscuits with delicious gravy. Huge portions served here. The server was great too. I dined in a few weeks ago with a friend on a Sunday. We were seated upon arrival, thank goodness because it was my post workout meal and I was starting to get hangry. I didn't hesitate to order my coffee, a water, my scones of course and a second order for my friend. I went with the eggs benedict; less guilt with my hollandaise on the side. My friend had the cornbeef hash and house potatoes. Old school humble diner ambiance. I'm sure the booths are original from day one. Who cares if they serve the best food?! The waffles and their ham steak are just a few of my family's favorites. Service was great and the our busser kept my coffee coming! The food is served hot and fresh. Gayle and I had breakfast here this morning after spending the night at the nearby GSR. The previous evening was a celebration of Gayle's birthday, which included a marvelous dinner at Beaujolais Bistro and seeing Chris Isaak perform at the Grand Theater. We found Jack's via one of those "Breakfast Near Me" searches and the restaurant was only about a mile away. After an easy drive (that could have been a long walk) from GSR, we entered a family diner vibe, complete with booth seating by the front window. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. I ordered the "Man Handler" (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 pieces of sausage), which was very tasty and comfortably filling. The pancakes in particular did not bog down the meal like some "heavier" ones can. Gayle ordered from the Mexican side of the breakfast menu (see picture). That dish was more food than she could handle although she loved the taste and texture. Personally, having a version of breakfast nachos doesn't appeal to me, but there's more than enough variety here for everyone. We'd happily come back again, if we're in the neighborhood again. Jack's is also a good alternative for GSR guests who want something better than their offerings and don't mind the short journey back and forth. read more

Let me start with the location and amenities. Jack's (new location) is in a very run-down strip mall. Parking is adequate. Jack's shares a restroom with the other businesses in the strip mall. The day we were there the restroom did not have paper towels or air dryer, no soap, and no hot water. My first thought was if Jack's employees used this facility and if so, no soap, no hot water...oh my! I cannot comment on the toilet area. This discovery dimmed my initial joy at trying a new breakfast spot. The food. I had the veggie omelette (I added cheddar cheese for extra charge) with home fries and subbed a pancake for the toast (add $2.99). The omelette was generous with veggies and flavorful. The home fries were good but bland and needed onions, seasonings (other than salt). The pancake was cold. But, to be honest, with each bite I kept wondering where the employees washed their hands. Made the meal less enjoyable. You may ask why I didn't leave when I made restroom discovery. I had already ordered my meal. I would like to give Jack's another chance but the restroom situation will keep me away. read more

I'm a fan of a savory breakfast. Spicy. Mexican. One of my faves is Huevos Rancheros.... About as historically a Mexican breakfast as Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs is American. Unfortunately, Jack's version of HR is not something I'll order again. The ranchero sauce is tomato-based and is a bit too sweet for my taste. The portion is large, decently priced at $15.99, served with crispy-cooked home fries and a dollop of tasty guacamole and sour cream. It was also unfortunate that the server didn't check the roll of tortillas before he gave them to me... I ordered flour; he delivered corn. Disappointing, but a friend's Classic Eggs Benefict and mother's Smokey Breakfast were to their liking. read more
