We had a really nice breakfast experience here this morning. The customer service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. The food was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. Portions were generous, and the prices felt very fair for the amount and quality of food we received. The only small note is that the drip coffee could be a bit stronger for our taste. Overall though, we'd definitely come back and would recommend it to others. read more

I got the Denver omelette and it was very tasty. I did like their scones too. That's what they're famous for. The hashbrowns were great too. No complaint on the food. The reason I put maybe is when we first walked in there was a weird, not sure what the odor was, but it wasn't very pleasant. It could've just been something in the building next door filtering through not sure. Our waiter was great, very attentive. There was one lady that I asked for a to go box and she just seemed bothered that I wanted her help. Maybe she was busy. I really miss Sizzler being here, but Jack's is the perfect replacement for the old Sizzler that was in this building! Seating is usually very fast, friendly, and the menu is expansive, offering a huge variety of breakfast and lunch choices for one's appetite. I have always wanted to try their waffles here, both regular and Belgian, but have never quite gotten around to that just yet. I am a huge fan of their skillets, especially their country skillet with over-easy egg, potatoes, peppers, onions with added mushrooms, absolutely delicious! Love their burgers, especially the patty melt and tuna metls that are offered here. I really enjoy the good service and the quality food that is made here, you won't be disappointed. Go earlier in the day than later in the afternoon as the dining room tends to fill up quickly with hungry guests. Recommended highly! read more

I haven't been here since it was Carrow's so I thought I would try Jack's and I have to say that it is honestly overlooked. Definitely better and a step above your Denny's while also providing great value and amazingly friendly service. The menu is great, fun, and has all the breakfast and lunch options you'd want. I got the country style breakfast with a country fried steak which was delicious and the portions were massive. Just your typical American diner with some Reno flair. We arrived as a group of 11 and were quickly seated in the back, which I really appreciated--it felt like we had a private space to ourselves. Since not everyone had arrived yet, they thoughtfully brought out waters and had everything ready for us--water, utensils, and menus all set up. Once the entire family was there, the staff promptly took our orders and were always quick to refill our coffee and drinks when they ran low. I especially loved that they offered flavored creamers--those little touches truly brighten my day! I ordered the pork chops and eggs, and they were absolutely delicious. I didn't manage to snap photos of everyone's plates, just mine--bummer! But I have to say, most of us chose the pork chops and eggs. They happily accommodated our multiple separate checks, and although they added an 18% gratuity to each, we didn't mind at all. First time in Jack's Coffee Shop today. I've always drove past there thinking, hmm -- I wonder what their food is like? I gave it four stars. Here's why. The servers were friendly, the coffee kept coming, the food was really delicious. I had the Carne Asada breakfast and Fritzie W. had a California Eggs Benedict. I have to hand it to them, the Carne was flavorful! Their homefries served with the meal, basically a delicious scalloped potato were good, piping hot, with a combination of crisp and tender pieces. Two detractors for the kitchen at the time however were one, they didn't add the cheese to the eggs as requested. After flagging down the waitress we had her to remove the upcharge, and second I didn't get the flour tortillas that were said to be served with the meal. It took them a bit to get them out. The waitress we later discovered substituted them for the scones we asked for on the side. We ended up paying a little extra for them. I wish we were given that explanation upfront before the order was submitted. The only other thing that would've made the experience better is just being checked on by our waitress a bit more. Places like this can however get busy, especially in mornings and early afternoons, I get it. I generally exercise a bit more understanding; but it's feedback for them and something you should consider if you visit. All in all, a great spot if you're wanting to try something different on this side of town. A comparable restaurant in Sparks shares their same vibe where the menu is mostly Mexican themed breakfast items and a few American staples for lunch like sandwiches and burgers. This place could be a great go to spot though for a quick bite that doesn't break the bank. It's reasonable priced in a nice spacious restaurant with a moderate to less moderate foot traffic clientele with people of all ages enjoying a wonderful meal. Check them out! read more

I was here for Breakfast at about 8:00 am, on a Great Balloon Races Saturday. The parking lot was full and I was thinking we would have to wait, but we were seated right away. Unfortunately, the service never really took off after that. It took a bit for our server to take our order for drinks and after a reasonable waiting period, I had to wave her down after she finished cleaning the table next to us, so she could take our order. The food came within a reasonable amount of time and she did check on us once, but then she didn't come back for a while. I had to wave her down again, so I could get the check. She was very nice and she seemed to be doing her best. I honestly think they just needed more staff. The food was Ok. My daughter had the Nutella Crepe Combo. She liked what she got. I got the French Toast and although it was good, it wasn't great. The ambiance also fell flat for me. It didn't feel very cozy and think more effort is needed with the Mexican decorations. There was also a sign that was hanging with string that was way to low. The Bus Boy ran into it and I had to duck to go under it. Just not the cozy breakfast I was hoping for with the early wake-up call this morning. read more

Right when we got there they treated us fast and were very friendly. It was 12 of us so it was a big party. They got our drinks and food fast and we didn't even waited to long to get our delicious food. Now we know where to come for breakfast or lunch when we come to Reno. We highly recommend this place. There are 2 Jack's in the area but they are not comparable in any way. Not sure how this place stays open with how slow and inattentive the service is. Asked specifically if the special had eggs in it and that I can't eat them, she replied she would find out, then I got served eggs anyway. Ordered an orange juice, never got my orange juice, still got put on the bill and asked if "I was sure" if I wanted it taken off. You want me to pay for something I didn't even receive? Then we had to basically do a search and reduce for our check. The really annoying thing is you can tell some of the customers are regulars and the staff buzz around their tables with gusto. I think they work as hard as the tip they believe they will get. Sucks because we usually tip very well also. read more

Totally worth every penny! I got the sausage and eggs with home fries and gravy on the side. Gravy was super yummy. Sausage patty was homemade and flavor was delicious. The buttermilk biscuits was homemade and was one of the best I have had in a LONG time. Light, flakey, huge, and perfect in my book. Scrambled eggs were perfect to me and they are not runny. So if you like them cooked "French-style" scrambled, don't get it scrambled here. The home fries was good and not greasy. Coffee was good too. Not watered down. :) It gets busy here but they are great at taking care of the customers. I would LOVE to go back here again. read more

First time at this diner after noticing the relatively good reviews, so I decided to check it out with a friend. We were lucky to be seated right away, just before a rush hit. Service was slow and it took a while to order, likely due to being short-staffed despite the full house. Our server seemed overwhelmed and distracted, so we had to be patient and repeat requests. Food was a mixed bag. The rojo chilaquiles came with unappetizing meat (listed as "carne asada" but looked more like tough ranchera) that was completely left untouched. The carnitas omelette was delicious--the verde sauce and pico de gallo on top were great--but there was a tough, inedible chunk of meat at the end. The biscuits and gravy arrived cold and were underwhelming. Coffee was solid! All in all, there were a few highlights, but the experience fell short of expectations. read more

The service was poor -- my girlfriend's toast never came out, we weren't given water, and we only had one napkin for the whole table. Nobody came back to check on us. There were very few servers, and they were trying to bus tables and wait on guests at the same time. Whatever money management thinks they're saving on staffing will end up costing them regular customers. The food didn't make up for the lack of service. My orange juice wasn't brought with my meal, we had no forks on the table until I asked, and the carne asada was so tough I needed a steak knife just to cut it -- even then, it slid all over the plate. The biscuits and gravy were rough and forgettable. Overall, it was edible, but nothing worth coming back for. Honestly, I've had better at a convenience store. Between the bad service and below-average food, I can't recommend Jack's Café if you're looking for a decent breakfast without hassle. read more

This is a local favorite that some lucky tourist have also found. There are 3 locations; but I am partial to this one. WE droppped off my puppy for an EKG at Blue Pearl Vets across the street,,,, stopped in here for breakfast, we love the other one where Sizzler use to be in Sparks. What could go wrong about a breakfast place??? The service was great and she did a great job. Hubby ordered a veggie omelette, very tasty.. I ordered biscuits and grave and potatoes, I wanted some protein and was going to order a side of bacon, I asked her if the grave has sausage in it, and she said YES IT DOES SO I did not order a side meat.... Garvey was just a flour gut bomb, no flavor except flour, man I could show them how to make a great gravy.... I was sooo disappointed as I have been so sick for months and just wanted real food.... The potatoes tasted like they were days old and not very tasty, and tasted old and was very chewy.... Sad about my breakfast. I am goin go to stop ordering it from now on anywhere, bummer. Jacks Coffee Shop was an impressive surprise considering the neighborhood and prior restaurant. The first impression walking in was how amazingly clean and inviting it is... The hostess was friendly and quick to acknowledge us. The menu is varied and interesting. I chose the vegetable Benedict. It was to perfection. The best in Reno. Lots of fresh deliciously rich vegetables.. finally someone does it correctly. The sauce was creamy and not too rich. My partner chose huevos rancheros... another 5 star hit. Served with beans, salsa, guacamole, fresh tortillas. I usually do not order this because most places do not make it well unless it is a Mexican restaurant. But Jack's did it fabulously. The sandwich comes with your choice of egg ( fried or scrambled) choice of thick bacon or mounded ham or sausage patty. In addition, a nice slice of melted cheddar cheese keeps everything together in the sandwich. Not a service dog either! Then the customer with the dog came at me with aggressive attitude. We were going to leave but the waitress was kind of and talked me out of leaving. Off the freeway we saw Denny and was planning to stop for breakfast but when we got there, Denny looks pack and saw this place across the street and decided to just give it a try. I worked here for almost a month, and my experience as an employee was disappointing. I was fired without any prior notice and wasn't informed until the day of. I was told other waitresses had complaints, but none of that was ever communicated to me beforehand, so I had no chance to address anything. Yelp 3 stars "eh it's just ok" Living in Reno for a little over 8 years now. I finally made my way over to Jack's coffee shop. This place has always been on my bucket list of places to try since it has been recommended by a few coworkers. The reason why it took me this long is because those coworkers recommendations haven't all been reliable and Yelp has it as a mediocre 3ish stars with plenty of mixed reviews. So here I am. I ordered the hungry meal chicken fried steak that came with potatoes, biscuits and gravy and of course eggs. When I go to any breakfast joint this is usually my go to order to rate the place. So how did it rank? Good but not great, definitely I have had better, but this isn't the worst. The country fried steak did lack seasoning, which I'm not the type of person to salt my food to begin with so it might need some salt. The gravy wasn't anything special, pretty bland and the biscuits were dry. The potatoes could've been elevated with chopped green onions. Overall I probably wouldn't come back but props for them for expanding and having several locations. read more
