I recommend this place if you're looking for a quick sit down meal that's at an affordable price point compared to the other high end restaurants located in the casino. We were seated right away on a Sunday at 6pm before a big show in the theater. Unfortunately our table was not that clean. The chairs had crumbs and the floor below the table was riddled with food. Our waitress was friendly and helpful when I asked her if she could sweep it up. I ordered a $19 burger and fries which was very delicious. Came her about 8:30 pm because I needed real food, and have enjoyed the meals here in the past. Today was very quiet here - the whole casino was almost empty, too! I was seated quickly and not one, but two, servers asked if wanted a drink other than the water they quickly brought. I think the servers outnumbered us customers 2 to 1, at least! I had checked the menu before coming here and found a new item - a pesto grilled cheese sandwich. Simple comfort food with a new take on it. This one has the pesto, cheddar and jack cheeses, as well as grilled red onions, and sauteed mushrooms on grilled sourdough. You can pick another bread if you like, but I kept it traditional! With that sandwich you also get a choice of a side: French Fries, Sweet Potato Fries or Onion Rings. You can also upgrade to Fruit Cup, Garlic Fries, Soup or Salad for $2. I added a side salad, extra Ranch! (I just use the salad to get the ranch dressing into my piehole! ) The salad came quickly, on a chilled plate, and was accompanied by two dressing in containers. Lots of salad on a smaller plate with two dressing was a challenge to cut and mix, but I managed! The sandwich followed soon after, and was nice and melty hot. I admit, it was not much to look at (the always eat first!) but the first bite was a blend of heavenly tastes! The cheeses, the pesto (just enough!), the grilled, soft yet sweet red onions, and the sauteed mushrooms all blended well. The moistness of the fillings softened the bottom bread a bit, so I need to remember to flip the sandwich halves when they arrive next time to help the steam escape. Convenient and acceptable are the words I would use to describe the Grand Cafe. We dined here before a show at the GSR and not doubt of the convenience. We dined early, roughly 5:30pm for a 7pm show. There was no wait and was quickly seated. The menu is diverse, offering your standard burgers and salads, but also offered a short list of Asian cuisine, which was an interesting surprise. The Asian food was passable but far from authentic or even flavorful. That said my wife ordered the burger. It was quite good. The fries were excellent. I may have sampled one or two. I ordered the Bowl of Chili. When I asked the waitress what she thought of the Chili, she replied "I'm not really a Chili girl, so I'm not a good judge but people order more burgers than the Chili". Err...okay. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. What the hell, how bad can it be, he says... Much to my surprise the Chili was quite good. A solid blend of beef and beans. We were seated promptly. Our sever was nice and pleasant. She gave me time to review the menu. There's plenty of seating. Very nice old Hollywood, but modern decoration. Food was good and plentiful. The kids menu was a great value. $10 for 2 pancakes, an egg and hash browns. I got the same thing but the adult size and it included two bacon and two sausage For $24. The hashbrowns were made perfectly. First off the hospitality is great! Kell is amazing 100/10 service. She's such a gem and was so sweet the entire time. She gave my family and I recommendations on the food and kept it real. We decided to go for the chicken noodle soup, creamy cajun chicken and shrimp pasta and the grand cheeseburger. The burger was an 8/10, chicken noodle 6/10 and the pasta 9/10. So for a casino cafe I'm reviewing for the all day breakfast that we had. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito and I ordered the Grand omelette. Forgot to take a photo. But we were surprised how good and tasty it all was. The hack for me was the salsa from hubby's burrito on my omelette. The salsa was good and fresh and made both items next level. Requested mine to be cooked with butter and not the toxic canola oil was not a problem here and all in all I'd definitely come back when here in the casino for breakfast. There aren't a lot of breakfast options at GSR, especially if you're a vegan. Our server was very sweet but didn't know how to help a vegan find options on the menu. I ordered the caprese avocado toast without mozzarella, a side of hash browns, and a side of refried beans (which might not even be vegan). The toast looked beautiful. I was excited to eat it. However, when I went to cut into it, the bread was barely toasted, so it was super soft. That's just not the texture you want for toast covered in avocado, balsamic, and tomatoes. The hash browns were pretty good, just under salted. The refried beans arrived with cheese on them, so I had to scrape that off, but they tasted fine as well--again, just under salted. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast though--country-fried steak with over-easy eggs, dry marbled rye, and a side of applewood-smoked bacon. Our food arrived really quickly, which was great. Since this was the first day of our mini vacation, I'm sure we'll be back for breakfast. I'll try ordering the avocado toast extra toasted next time. read more

We had another opportunity to dine at the Grand Cafe because we were staying at the Grand Sierra and watching another concert in the Grand Theater. We initially headed to the Buffet but the line was too long and we had a concert to attend still; so, we headed to the Grand Cafe. When we approached the hostess station, our 4-person party was fortunate enough to get seated immediately at a nearby table even though the restaurant was moderately crowded. The bus-person immediately took our drink orders (unfortunately I didn't get his name). Then our lovely server, Cherry Ann (according to her name tag) appeared to take our food orders: spaghetti and meatballs, a Corned Beef Reuben sandwich, Fish and Chips and a Cafe Club sandwich. Everyone mostly enjoyed all their meals; the bacon on the Cafe Club was a little tough and the onions with the Reuben sandwich tasted odd. Every time I bit into a ring, I didn't get a taste of the onion, it felt more like it was a battered onion rind (if that makes any sense). Other than that, the rest of our dining experience was pretty great: the tasted good and was well-seasoned, the portions were generous, the price was still on the high end but at least all our orders were correct and arrived with a minimal amount of wait time. We finished our meal with plenty of time to go to the concert. The service was the best part of our dining experience, Cherry Ann, the young man who was the bus-person and even the food-runner were all exceptionally attentive and friendly. read more

The grand cafe is good for a quick bite. It is your typical diner style food. We ordered a side of bacon, sausage and 2 eggs. The bacon and eggs were very good but the seasoning in the sausage was a little over powering. The plating also looked thrown together and sloppy. We also got the Sierra slam combo which was good. My wife enjoyed the pancake and bacon but also thought the sausage seasoning was overpowering. The amount of food you get in this meal is a great deal. Our server was very nice and did a good job. The server, Tesla, was fricken awful, making the overall experience just downright terrible! She never refilled the coffee at our table (he had to go up to the front desk for a refill), messed up our drink refills, continually disappeared being nowhere to be seen throughout a majority of our dinner, & was nearly impossible to flag down when she decided to make an appearance on the floor. She didn't listen to the customers when we asked for anything really, & had a bit of an attitude when she wasn't ignoring us. Unfortunately, we will never be returning to this establishment thanks to Tesla. This was my last meal before giving birth, & although it was memorable, it was for all the wrong reasons. We were brought waters and coffees, unfortunately the coffee cup I was given had a huge crack down one side as well as a small hole in the middle of the crack. Thankfully they did bring me a new one. I ate at Grand Cafe during my stay and found the experience underwhelming. The food was average in quality--nothing particularly memorable--and felt overpriced for what was served, though that's somewhat expected for a hotel restaurant. Service was fine overall, but it took a noticeably long time for our server to bring the check, which was frustrating at the end of the meal. Unless you're short on time or don't want to leave the hotel, I wouldn't recommend it. There are likely better options nearby that offer better value for the price. read more

GSR standards have DROPPED big time!! We came in at 8:45 PM on a Tuesday and the restaurant was completely empty. We stood at the front for a while, but a few servers and the host were talking and did not acknowledge my family or me at all. I had to interrupt their conversation just to ask for a table for four. When we were seated, there was no silverware set up. GSR has really gone downhill. They are now using napkins with silverware pockets instead of properly folded cloth napkins like they used to. We ordered the ribeye with baked potato, NY steak and eggs, black bean burger, and calamari. The calamari was the WORST calamari I have ever had. It had no flavor, no seasoning, and a rubbery texture with mostly breading. It tasted frozen and it arrived cold. It honestly seemed like it was either cooked for another table and then served to us, or it had been sitting at the pass for too long. Either way, it was not fresh. The ribeye was slightly burnt but cooked to medium. The seasoning was uneven and extremely salty in some spots, and there was way too much butter on top. The baked potato and vegetables were fine and cooked properly. The NY steak was cooked to medium but also a bit burnt. The flavor was actually good and not overly salty. However, the eggs looked sad and did not resemble sunny side up eggs at all. The toast barely looked toasted. The black bean burger lacked flavor, and the fries were overcooked and very hard to eat. Service was terrible. Even though the restaurant was empty, the server and busser never checked on us, refilled drinks, or cleared plates. I barely saw them the entire time. When it was time for the check, I waited about 30 minutes and eventually had to flag down the hostess to get the server. Again, GSR standards have DROPPED BIG TIME!! read more

Fortune cookie and chopsticks were wrapped in their packaging and served on top of my Mongolian beef. Definitely not appetizing. American Burger with sweet potato fries were exactly what you expect in a cafe burger and it didn't disappoint. I usually just get a spaghetti and meatball and it always comes out the same: the garlic bread is delicious and the pasta and marinara sauce is good but the meatballs are never heated up properly!! I already know they premake them and freeze/refrigerate them afterwards and they just microwave it to get it to temperature but it's always lukewarm! I don't expect too much since it's one of the few places open later but come on for $23 after taxes, I expect it to be better, it can be a really good dish, just make the effort chef! Thanks! Not the best food choice in Reno but there's room for growth. Grand cafe used to be a staple late night eats when I first moved to Reno, but my how things have changed. My friends and I dropped by to enjoy some late night eats yesterday , but that was a bust. The service was delayed and there were more than enough workers to accommodate. The ambiance was pretty mellow with a decent amount of visitors in the restaurant so it was unclear why the wait was so long. Food took about an hour after order being placed to get to table and the food was okay. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with onion rings. The onion rings were the best thing on my plate. The price matched the portion sizes but honestly I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. We've eaten here a few times before when staying at GSR. I'm surprised I never left a review.   This place is usually crowded, and there is always a wait.  The cashier who helped me was nice, and she made sure we had everything we needed from jellies, hot sauce,  and extra napkins.     We ordered breakfast to go, and our food was piping hot. 1.  Country fried steak and eggs - I ordered it with over medium eggs and sourdough toast.  At first glance, I was sad and said I should've asked for more gravy.  Then I noticed they placed gravy underneath as well.  Genius.  The country fried steak was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside.  Hash browns were perfectly cooked,  nice, and crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside.  It was perfection. 2.  All American Breakfast Sandwich - This was a "Beast" of a sandwich.  Halfway through, my husband was like, "I'm already full."  Thick slice of ham on the inside and hearty pieces of bacon.   This was perfectly portioned all throughout.
