Let's start off with the service.... Because that was the high point of my experience. Good... mostly attentive and definitely friendly. The wait wasn't bad considering how packed it was. The environment was poorly lit where I was sat but other areas looked better lit. Floor looked dirty though... that much I could see. Now to be fair this was probably crumbs from their delicious sourdough. The artichoke dip was delicious but hands down I was served almost the worst ribeye I've had in my life. 50% fat, tendon and grizzle. When I was offered $5 off my steak I decided I wouldn't be back. Tipped my waitress 25% because she did great and then gave her a $5 bill and told her to give that to the manager. Keep the five bucks bud.... The fact you lowballed me and more importantly didn't even come to address the issue directly despite standing around the bar half the night tells me this crusty establishment isn't for me. If you are reading this and work as a server here... please take their job. I am sure you could do a better job running that place than they do. read more

I came here with a large group for my sister's birthday. She had been there many times with good luck, but I had never been there as most of us had not. I know things can go wrong occasionally, but this seemed to be a string of events. Once we ordered, it took a while to get food. I'm not complaining about this, we were a large party. When we did get our food, all of it was either wrong, cold, or undercooked. There were no wait staff around to tell, apparently they were short-staffed that night. I walked up and got the manager, who came back to the table to hear us out. They ended up comping all of the food and by the time we had gotten this far, it was already later in the evening and we just decided to salvage what we could. Some of the food was edible, so we did what we could. We kept waiting for someone to come around to clear dishes comma but we never saw anyone. There was an empty table between us and the next table over. There was an empty table between us and the next table over, and they had started stacking they're empty dishes on that empty table. We decided, we might as well do the same thing otherwise the dishes would stay put. By the end of the meal, the entire table was full of dishes. We ended up going somewhere else later that evening to actually get some food we could eat. I'm really sad that this meal went so poorly when we were trying to celebrate a birthday. We will never be going to this restaurant again. Additional after the fact, the sign outside that advertises the business has been broken for months. One would think that if you were a serious business that you would want to fix that. It reflects on your image. It makes me sad too, because they are right across the street from the Peppermill and they could be getting so much business. read more

The steak was so tasty and tender. My mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy. Dont get me started on the blooming onion. Like I could eat a whole one solo. The coconut shrimp was crispy and flavored enough to eat by itself but so much better with the sauce. The eggrolls were a percent size to the sampler. The salad wasnt my favorite. Although the air conditioning wasn't working properly during the August heat, the food was good, the service was great, and the staff was incredibly accommodating to our large party during Hot August Nights. Exceptionally good dinner this visit. We arrived in there was a bit of a line, I asked how long of a wait for a table for two and the host said about 10 minutes. That was fine so as soon as we turned around to sit in the lobby, the guy called us and said he happened to find a table for two. So we were sat immediately. This is the busiest I've ever seen this restaurant. Pretty much every table, and they have lots of tables, was full. Braden was our server and he was at our table within five minutes. Considering how busy the place was, that was awesome. He took our drink orders asked if we actually knew what we wanted to eat, which we didn't, and so he went to get our drinks while we looked at the menu. What we ordered: 25 ounce Cadillac margarita Frolic in the sand Shots of tequila (Herradura) 20 ounce prime rib, medium rare Lobster tail Jacketed baked potato Sautéed mushrooms The food arrived quickly. The prime rib was perfect. Lobster, mushrooms. Everything was just so darn good. The star of the show was the server Braden. He was friendly and a little entertaining. Even though the place was super busy, he took the time to talk with us and make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our evening. I will definitely ask for him next time we come in here as he was that good. When the food and drinks are consistent, sometimes the only difference of a good visit versus an average visit is the server. He was perfect. The waiter was ok. The cook really needs a lesson on how to cook. I had to send my steak back TWICE. The first time I didn't even cut it yet as I had asked for the filet NOT to be bacon wrapped. When I received it the bacon was on it. They took it back and it was a few minutes and it was back with a used knife. I asked if they just removed the bacon and they said no they recooked it. REALLY!!! Then when I went to cut it I knew it wasn't COOKED right right away. It was not cooked properly due to how soft it was. I had ordered med well and it was med rare. Back again. Pretty good place! I went here with in-laws to celebrate their anniversary, and it was good! My mother in law said that she liked it here better than Texas Roadhouse, which is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. We both ordered the prime rib with baked potatoes. The salad arrived with brown, wilted lettuce that looked like it should never have been served. The baked potato was somehow even worse--it didn't even taste like a potato. I took one bite and pushed it aside. Then came the prime rib. It was so bad that I managed only two bites before giving up. The quality was nothing like I remembered, and neither of us could bring ourselves to eat it. After spending nearly $80, we walked out still hungry and ended up going somewhere else for dinner. Today we got the 10oz Garlic butter Sirloin with asparagus and broccoli as sides (Yum) and 16oz Ribeye. I requested more garlic butter to put on my veggies; which to me made it pop. If you follow my reviews you know I've been in a Birthday club with the same girls for 36 years. Tonite is the night to celebrate Patti's 60th. To be honest I haven't been to the Ruby River since the last Birthday party when Shannon turned 40 so it's been awhile. I had the garlic top sirloin, it was delicious and the meat melted into your mouth. I wish my onions could have been grilled longer and really my one piece of asparagus could have used a few more friends on my plate. Everyone enjoyed their food and service was excellent. We made a reservation for 8 and got seated right away. All of our dinners came out at the same time and for a table of 8 there were no issues other than more asparagus. The last time we were there you would throw the peanuts on the floor but it seems like they removed that type of atmosphere and the restaurant was going more for the classy steakhouse vibe. When we left there was a huge wait in the front! Glad we made a reservation. I highly advise it. Oh by the way they didn't include the gratitude for a large party and I thought that was extra nice. Nearly every other table was covered with dirty dishes, and behind the bar there were multiple tubs of dishes and trash visible on the floor. The bartender was very nice, but he was also acting as the manager for the night, which meant he was constantly being pulled away. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. The calamari was burned on the outside, mushy on the inside, and lacked flavor. The steak and avocado egg rolls were just okay--the filling was fine, but the sauce was overly salty. We also ordered the artichoke dip, which came with plenty of garlic bread, though it felt hastily thrown together. I ordered a prime rib around 7:00 p.m. and was told they were already out, which was surprising for a steakhouse at that hour. The final straw was the restroom. It smelled strongly like sewer, the toilet wouldn't flush because the lever didn't work, and the floor was filthy. It was honestly pretty disgusting. This place used to be a regular stop for me when visiting Reno, so it's really disappointing to see how far it's declined. I hope management can get staffing, cleanliness, and food quality back to where they used to be. read more

What an adorable waitress with good humor and positive energy. She had that sweet Texas charm and made sure I was taken care of. I could have stayed there all night eating and chatting with her as she checked on my table. I really enjoyed the dark, quiet, and intimate nature of the place filled with our voices as I asked her things about the menu. Overall the food was fiiire! Steaks seasoned to perfection, delicious soup, ranch, and sides, and pretty good prices. The ambience is lowkey and intimate and sometimes you want that when the workd is so loud and crazy. The food was good, we had steaks that were seasoned and cooked to the perfect temperature. The baked potatoes were fresh and hot. Bread was served with butter before the order was taken. I like the bread OK, wife said it not so good. The salad was fresh and the dressings were thick and tasty. Service was good the people working here make you feel like they appreciate you stopping here to a customer. The waiter checked on our table several times. Came here for a business dinner and it was my first visit to ruby river steakhouse. Let's start with the inside interior - it was pretty dim lighted w/ cowboy themed interior. Random cowboy boots everywhere, etc. Service (5/5) - I was with a big party of 10. Our server was very patient and was really helpful throughout our entire visit. She made sure we were all doing ok and if we needed anything/refilled our waters, etc. She even remembered our orders when the food came out. So Plus one star for... I forgot her name... Food (2-3/5) - I can't say it was terrible because it wasn't. I got the steak and ribs with mashed potatoes and broccoli. From another previous review, I was skeptical on ordering the broccoli but had enough liquid courage to order it anyways since I love broccoli. Ribs were dry and overcooked (see pic). Steak had a weird spongey taste to it, I'm not sure if it's because I haven't eaten out in awhile & make steak at home. But the meat tasted rubbery and spongey. It also lacked flavor. Mashed potatoes were creamy & thankfully my broccoli had no extra "protein". Overall, this restaurant is like a cowboy themed outback. Everyone else on my table seemed to enjoy their food and I probably just didn't order the right thing. But giving it 3 stars because it was a free meal and it wasn't too bad.
