Had a nice late dinner with the Mrs. on a Saturday night before a concert at Cargo. We had some apps and draft beers because we didn't want a big meal. The bartender was quick to serve us and the overall experience was great. The dining area is nice, it wasn't very crowded. The bar seating area was nice and comfy. This review is specifically for the Love is a Drag Valentine's Day Brunch at Cafe Whitney. My friend and I reserved a 2-person table about one month in advance. It was $20 per person to attend, paid via Eventbrite ticketing. We arrived at 10:30am and received a wrist band and waited in a brief line. The line moved quickly and they already had my name and table ready. We were promptly seated and our drinks taken. Of course we ordered bottomless mimosas. The staff was very efficient. Drinks served and food orders taken. We both had the burrito ahogado - three eggs, cheese, black bean pureé, pico, avocado, smothered in ranchero salsa & crema and served with potatoes. There is an option of chorizo, bacon or sausage. I had the chorizo and my friend went with no meat. These burritos were hugely delicious. I wound up making mine into three meals with the leftovers. We both would order again. Cafe Whitney actually has a really nice brunch menu so definitely might try something new on our next visit. Our waiter was prompt with both our food and refilling carafes of mimosas. Always appreciate good service, especially when bottomless mimosas are involved!! :-) Next... the drag queen show. Fabulous! The dancers were beautiful in makeup, hair and dress and kept us laughing! Bring your $1 bills for tips. We did not know they took dancing tips but fortunately we had some cash on hand to join the fun. The MC was engaging and entertaining and kept the crowd excited. The DJ spun lots of great, upbeat fun tunes. There were several men there with their girlfriends/wives and they seemed to really enjoy the attention they got and played along. Been awhile since I last reviewed Cafe Whitney. An update is in order. We have been back a number of times since it is a block from home and is a good spot to go when we don't feel like cooking. We came recently to get a bite before going to a show knowing that they are usually very quick in getting orders out. I had the pasta with sausage and a good not too sweet mocktail. My husband had the roasted half chicken. Both meals were good and portions were generous. The service was good, orders taken and food brought out in a timely manner. Scored a last minute Thanksgiving reservation here last night. The place was delightful, staff friendly and overly accommodating. Our server crafted a special mocktail for me since I am sober. Valet service was a pleasant surprise as well. I chose the Thanksgiving meal with pork and the gingerbread cookie. The food was delicious, I was not surprised. The restaurant is delicately decorated, and gives off an upscale vibe in a quiet way. The restaurant is beautifully and located in the heart of downtown located right next to the renowned Reno sign. I tried their strawberry margarita, jambalaya, vaquero fries, and more. The sample menu was so delicious that my fiance and I had to try their ramen and salmon from their main menu, and they were also superb. My husband had the salmon fish and chips and coleslaw. My husband and I were really shocked that the salmon fish and chips were as good as they were. My husband is part British and very particular about his fish and chips which are usually made with a white fish but the salmon was delicious and I concur. I did not have the coleslaw but he said it was also delicious. The serving size of the fish and chips was pretty good size. The short ribs were an adequate size and I'm sure with the vegetable pretty filling. Ambiance: I loved the ambiance of this restaurant. It was well lite, modern, clean, and spacious. Great decor and lots of televisions in the bar area for the sports enthusiast to enjoy a drink while watching the game. Service: The service was great. The food was served fresh, hot an quick. The server was pleasant and professional. The server recommended the salmon fish and chips and he was right. Parking: Parking is across the street in a parking garage. I stayed the night at the hotel so I dont know if there is additional charge for parking when not at the hotel. Overall: Beautiful restaurant great for meeting after work, dinner with friends or a date night. The menu is varied and sophisticated. We waited for about ten minutes by the wait to be seated sign, only 2 tables had people seated, the people kept ignoring us even though I was on crutches and obviously not comfortable standing. Finally a girl comes by, seats us, says she'll be back with water, but then walks past us several times...finally a guy that's been standing around doing nothing for the past 10 minutes apologizes for the long wait, and says he'll come back with water and yay! He does! He also takes our order, we just got the flatbread, which came out fairly quickly, but wayyyy underdone. It then took them forever to bring us the bill, they kept walking around us, but never any eye contact, refilling my empty water, or checking up on us. It was a big place and pretty empty, if it was busy I would have understood why the service was so crappy. read more

Stopped in for dinner as we were attending a concert at Cargo and we saw that we would get 10% off our meal (which we forgot to use but that's another story!). Me and my husband both got the salmon with the risotto and it was to die for. Salmon was perfectly seasoned and the risotto was nice and creamy and cheesy. The one and only downside to the whole experience was the bar forgot to make our drinks so we didn't get them until we were started on our dinner already but the server noticed they weren't dropped off and apologized profusely. The hollandaise sauce balances out the crispy chunks of salty corned beef and smashed potatoes. Room for improvement / Reasons for the lower rating - Being the focal point of the Burrito Ahogado, the avocado was partially spoiled. Interesting choice to not to just use another avocado. - Additionally, the sauce on the burrito seemed like they just opened a can dumped it on. It was cold (room temp at best) and tasted like cheap, premade enchilada sauce. Looking at the photo, the cheese didn't event attempt to melt in the sauce. - As there wasn't background music until the end of our meal, there was a loud, sound drowning out conversation. Maybe since it was an open kitchen, it was the refrigerators? The ventilation fans? Whatever it was, it was distracting. - There isn't any on-site parking. It's 50% off regular prices for non specials. The burger was huge and came with cheese, onion, tomato slice and a large dill pickle. You choose your beer and that's it. I stopped by the Café at the Whitney Hotel to place a to-go order and had a pretty disappointing experience. I ordered the Peak Burger ($23) and added a side of bacon for $2, along with a few other items. The waitress didn't write anything down, which made me a little uneasy, but I assumed she had it covered. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case. When I got home, the burger was completely off from what I ordered. The patty was overcooked, the lettuce was wilted and brown, there was no bacon at all, and the burger didn't even have any sauces or toppings--basically just a dry, poorly assembled sandwich. For a $25+ burger, this was extremely disappointing. It felt like the order wasn't properly taken or checked before being sent out. Definitely not what I expected. read more

How did I miss this restaurant all this time?? We went here for the first time last Saturday evening because it was close and we were hungry. First, big shout out to our server Raquel who was so helpful, attentive and generally pleasant to talk to. This was some of the best food I have had in months if not longer! Don't get me wrong, I have had delicious food at a lot of places but this was a kindof flavor experience that one rarely experiences and I was not expecting it. We started with the Fritto Misto which I expected to be a selection of battered and fried but this was something I have never had before. They were lightly dusted? With a mild coating that was just incredible. I can't describe the flavor exactly because we ate it too quickly to note what the ingredients might be. I had the salmon fish and chips and my friend had the pork belly ramen. My fish was tender, not too heavily breaded but an actual breading different than the Misto. Paired with a house tartar sauce...yum! The fries though! They were wedges but they had the best crisp on the edges especially that were full of flavor and the inside was fluffy. The ranch is also housemade and I alternated between that and the rest of the basil aoli from the misto. The slaw is also housemade and fresh. The Ramen was perfectly cooked, full of flavor and topped with a whole Sunnyside up egg that finished cooking in the Ramen after it was cut up. 11/15/2025 came here for the first time for breakfast and it was amazing. The food was sooo good, the service was awesome, the restaurant was so clean and there was DJ Trivia there. Had the whole restaurant answering trivia questions and 1st 2nd 3rd place got a little $ taken off their bill. It was so fun playing, my granddaughter was totally into it. The taco options were Carne Asada, Chicken Tinga, and Mushroom Al Pastor (or one of each). I personally liked the Mushroom al pastor. One time I had the stack of pancakes with granola and berries and the next time I had the chilaquiles. I asked for no fried egg with the chilaquiles. They have several choices of protein to go with them and I chose chorizo. The chips were crunchy when I was served but the salsa got them to the right texture. What a lovely brunch! My mom and I came because we hadn't been out in a while and wanted to go somewhere we hadn't been yet. Parking was super easy and the hotel lobby looks and smells amazing! Cafe Whitney is just to the left and is huge! This would be a great place to host an event! We were sat immediately and the service throughout our time there was amazing. This place used to be brunch and dinner only. They have added a very limited lunch menu, which is good and bad. The food is good but the service is not. I ordered iced tea and was told they were brewing some. 20 minutes later I asked again, not from our pigtailed youngster who was no where to be found and who clearly does not know anything about service but from someone who was passing by. She relayed the request to the pigtailed kid. That was what it took to get anything all meal long. We had to find someone to ask for to-go boxes and our check. Luckily she was nice enough to follow through. I left a big tip because most of the people were helpful, and because I knew my friend would not (she had her own issues), and I have to say I really hope all the staff who helped us shared in the tip. I saw our server leave about 12:30 today but no one came over to let us know who was taking over, if anyone. I wanted to chase her out the door and ask who we should talking to if we needed something else. Basics, people... They have a parking valet but no decent self-parking options. Downtown Reno is so odd. I parked a couple blocks away and passed three vacant lots -all chained up- that could be for parking. I don't get it. On a happier note: I got the burger -grilled and yummy- which came with fries -also yummy and crispy- and my friend got the turkey club and tomato bisque soup which both looked great. We're staying the Hilton property attached to this restaurant. We stopped in for lunch It was just before noon and they had an abbreviated bunch menu of breakfast items and lunch items. It was fairly busy but there was plenty of staff on hand. It's a very noisy location plus they had an emcee playing music and running a trivia game. It reminded me of a cruise ship plaza area. Holding conversations was not an option here. Our order was taken quickly and the service was good. I had the chilaquiles, which were packed with flavor and had the perfect balance of spice and crunch. She gave me excellent advice on what to order even when they did not have the Chicken Marsala available. I would highly recommend the Chicken Piccata. It is light but filling and is packed with flavor. The kitchen was amazing as well. To be able to cook a lightly fried breast in such a short amount of time was impressive.
