The restaurant is very spacious and full of half private rooms for more cozy dinners among smaller groups. The service is swift and polite. We had a gem of a waiter, called Tom. He was funny, quick witted and remembered requests and was just overall incredibly kind. We had the Hamachi Crudo (fire water ponzu, fresh yuzu juice, ginger, cilantro, serrano pepper, puffed rice, radish, green onion) and the Ramen: Miso dashi (needed more of that), broccolini (steamed), chili crunch(where though?), grilled corn (interesting, weird, but good), roasted nori, jammy egg (not a marinated one, just soft boiled. Still delicious, just not very Ramen-style-jammy-eggy) and it was an fascinating experience. The Crudo was magnificent and perfect, and the ramen was a very not Ramen ramen. It was more of a Soup disguised as Ramen. After all, it did have broth, curly noodles, nori and a regular soft boiled egg. I liked it, but with our experience of the restaurant "Ramen Shop" in Oakland, this felt very not Ramen-ey. We still will be back, when we pass through. I am so impressed with the quality of food here. And it was affordable and it was easy to get a table. The ambiance is work coctail type attire. We all really enjoyed our meal. Had a nice late dinner with the Mrs. on a Saturday night before a concert at Cargo. We had some apps and draft beers because we didn't want a big meal. Jeffrey is hands down one of the best bartenders we've ever had! Every time we visit Reno, we make it a point to stop by because we know we're in for an amazing experience. I usually order his perfect espresso martini, but it was a little too late for all that caffeine. Jeffrey took the time to ask what flavors I was in the mood for and created a custom martini just for me. It was made with brown butter bourbon, chocolate and sea salt caramel liqueur, and finished with dark chocolate and caramel syrup. It sounds like it would be overly sweet, but it was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. What really sets Jeffrey apart is that he genuinely listens and loves creating the perfect drink for his guests. His friendly personality and incredible attention to detail make every visit memorable. We always look forward to seeing him whenever we're in Reno. Been awhile since I last reviewed Cafe Whitney. An update is in order. We have been back a number of times since it is a block from home and is a good spot to go when we don't feel like cooking. We came recently to get a bite before going to a show knowing that they are usually very quick in getting orders out. I had the pasta with sausage and a good not too sweet mocktail. My husband had the roasted half chicken. Both meals were good and portions were generous. The service was good, orders taken and food brought out in a timely manner. I got an omelette which was gigantic but was filled with about 2lbs of cut sausage links that tasted like they had just begun to spoil so I was afraid to eat them. The side of potatoes was a large portion but it was. It was gross slimy mushy and way over seasoned and the coffee was not the worst coffee I'd ever had but it certainly was not coffee shop coffee. It was definitely just mediocre hotel coffee. We didn't say anything because the breakfast was included with our hotel so we just figured well. It's about worth what we paid for it. First time dining here for brunch. They had some good options on the menu and I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. This was definitely on the larger side and barely finished it. Scored a last minute Thanksgiving reservation here last night. The place was delightful, staff friendly and overly accommodating. Our server crafted a special mocktail for me since I am sober. Valet service was a pleasant surprise as well. I chose the Thanksgiving meal with pork and the gingerbread cookie. The food was delicious, I was not surprised. The restaurant is delicately decorated, and gives off an upscale vibe in a quiet way. We went for breakfast on Saturday and were able to get in quickly. Staff were efficient and friendly serving us right away. Breakfast menu isn't big but should have enough options for everyone. Food: The short ribs of beef were tender and very well seasoned and the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. It came with a vegetable but I opted out. My husband had the salmon fish and chips and coleslaw. My husband and I were really shocked that the salmon fish and chips were as good as they were. My husband is part British and very particular about his fish and chips which are usually made with a white fish but the salmon was delicious and I concur. I did not have the coleslaw but he said it was also delicious. The serving size of the fish and chips was pretty good size. The short ribs were an adequate size and I'm sure with the vegetable pretty filling. Ambiance: I loved the ambiance of this restaurant. It was well lite, modern, clean, and spacious. Great decor and lots of televisions in the bar area for the sports enthusiast to enjoy a drink while watching the game. Service: The service was great. The food was served fresh, hot an quick. The server was pleasant and professional. The server recommended the salmon fish and chips and he was right. Parking: Parking is across the street in a parking garage. I stayed the night at the hotel so I dont know if there is additional charge for parking when not at the hotel. Overall: Beautiful restaurant great for meeting after work, dinner with friends or a date night. The menu is varied and sophisticated. It has everything from quick late night pizza to salads and soup to entrees such as chicken picatta, steaks and pan roasted salmon. Shoutout to Tom who was our server last night. What a cool guy! We're already big fans of the hotel and the restaurant but Tom's energy and service was the push I needed to write a review. I got their Peak burger, pretty delicious (maybe could have used some extra sauce but good nonetheless) and my husband got the Jambalaya. He liked it, not life altering but good. Super strong cocktails, I appreciate that when it's a $14 drink. Visually, the restaurant is stunning. It's so much more than a "cafe". They absolutely knocked it out of the park with the decor! So many amazing details. I love that the hotel is non smoking and isn't a casino. It's a sexy place. We call it our "Mistress Hotel". ;) Anyway, Tom chatted with my husband about book publishing and history and life. He was the perfect balance of attentive but not hover-y, he was genuine and honestly worth coming back for. Thank you for making a good night even better!! We'll be back. This review is specifically for the Love is a Drag Valentine's Day Brunch at Cafe Whitney. My friend and I reserved a 2-person table about one month in advance. It was $20 per person to attend, paid via Eventbrite ticketing. We arrived at 10:30am and received a wrist band and waited in a brief line. The line moved quickly and they already had my name and table ready. We were promptly seated and our drinks taken. Of course we ordered bottomless mimosas. The staff was very efficient. Drinks served and food orders taken. We both had the burrito ahogado - three eggs, cheese, black bean pureé, pico, avocado, smothered in ranchero salsa & crema and served with potatoes. There is an option of chorizo, bacon or sausage. I had the chorizo and my friend went with no meat. These burritos were hugely delicious. I wound up making mine into three meals with the leftovers. We both would order again. Cafe Whitney actually has a really nice brunch menu so definitely might try something new on our next visit. Our waiter was prompt with both our food and refilling carafes of mimosas. Always appreciate good service, especially when bottomless mimosas are involved!! :-) Next... the drag queen show. Fabulous! The dancers were beautiful in makeup, hair and dress and kept us laughing! Bring your $1 bills for tips. We did not know they took dancing tips but fortunately we had some cash on hand to join the fun. The MC was engaging and entertaining and kept the crowd excited. The DJ spun lots of great, upbeat fun tunes. There were several men there with their girlfriends/wives and they seemed to really enjoy the attention they got and played along. My late husband would have truly enjoyed these queens and the positive energy! A fun time for everyone. While there were portions of the experience that were 5 stars, overall it couldn't quite add up. I hope next time is an improved experience. Pros - The Climber's Hash is delicious! The hollandaise sauce balances out the crispy chunks of salty corned beef and smashed potatoes. Highly recommend! - The burrito is a large portion size. - The Ambiance and decor feels somewhat upscale. - Service was friendly and prompt. Room for improvement / Reasons for the lower rating - Being the focal point of the Burrito Ahogado, the avocado was partially spoiled. Interesting choice to not to just use another avocado. - Additionally, the sauce on the burrito seemed like they just opened a can dumped it on. It was cold (room temp at best) and tasted like cheap, premade enchilada sauce. Looking at the photo, the cheese didn't event attempt to melt in the sauce. - As there wasn't background music until the end of our meal, there was a loud, sound drowning out conversation. Maybe since it was an open kitchen, it was the refrigerators? The ventilation fans? Whatever it was, it was distracting. - There isn't any on-site parking. I guess a stroll through downtown isn't bad, just not convenient. read more

Had the pleasure of sampling the new spring menu at Cafe Whitney recently and I will say the chefs and staff brought their A game! The restaurant is beautifully and located in the heart of downtown located right next to the renowned Reno sign. I tried their strawberry margarita, jambalaya, vaquero fries, and more. The sample menu was so delicious that my fiance and I had to try their ramen and salmon from their main menu, and they were also superb. We waited for about ten minutes by the wait to be seated sign, only 2 tables had people seated, the people kept ignoring us even though I was on crutches and obviously not comfortable standing. Finally a girl comes by, seats us, says she'll be back with water, but then walks past us several times...finally a guy that's been standing around doing nothing for the past 10 minutes apologizes for the long wait, and says he'll come back with water and yay! He does! He also takes our order, we just got the flatbread, which came out fairly quickly, but wayyyy underdone. It then took them forever to bring us the bill, they kept walking around us, but never any eye contact, refilling my empty water, or checking up on us. It was a big place and pretty empty, if it was busy I would have understood why the service was so crappy. read more
