Shoutout to Tom who was our server last night. What a cool guy! We're already big fans of the hotel and the restaurant but Tom's energy and service was the push I needed to write a review. I got their Peak burger, pretty delicious (maybe could have used some extra sauce but good nonetheless) and my husband got the Jambalaya. He liked it, not life altering but good. Super strong cocktails, I appreciate that when it's a $14 drink. Visually, the restaurant is stunning. It's so much more than a "cafe". They absolutely knocked it out of the park with the decor! So many amazing details. I love that the hotel is non smoking and isn't a casino. It's a sexy place. We call it our "Mistress Hotel". ;) Anyway, Tom chatted with my husband about book publishing and history and life. Had a nice late dinner with the Mrs. on a Saturday night before a concert at Cargo. We had some apps and draft beers because we didn't want a big meal. The bartender was quick to serve us and the overall experience was great. The dining area is nice, it wasn't very crowded. The bar seating area was nice and comfy. Had the pleasure of sampling the new spring menu at Cafe Whitney recently and I will say the chefs and staff brought their A game! The restaurant is beautifully and located in the heart of downtown located right next to the renowned Reno sign. I tried their strawberry margarita, jambalaya, vaquero fries, and more. The sample menu was so delicious that my fiance and I had to try their ramen and salmon from their main menu, and they were also superb. I highly recommend Cafe Whitney if you are in town and would be interested to hear what you think about their dishes. read more

Been awhile since I last reviewed Cafe Whitney. An update is in order. We have been back a number of times since it is a block from home and is a good spot to go when we don't feel like cooking. We came recently to get a bite before going to a show knowing that they are usually very quick in getting orders out. I had the pasta with sausage and a good not too sweet mocktail. My husband had the roasted half chicken. Both meals were good and portions were generous. The service was good, orders taken and food brought out in a timely manner. Scored a last minute Thanksgiving reservation here last night. The place was delightful, staff friendly and overly accommodating. Our server crafted a special mocktail for me since I am sober. Valet service was a pleasant surprise as well. I chose the Thanksgiving meal with pork and the gingerbread cookie. The food was delicious, I was not surprised. The restaurant is delicately decorated, and gives off an upscale vibe in a quiet way. Food: The short ribs of beef were tender and very well seasoned and the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. It came with a vegetable but I opted out. My husband had the salmon fish and chips and coleslaw. My husband and I were really shocked that the salmon fish and chips were as good as they were. My husband is part British and very particular about his fish and chips which are usually made with a white fish but the salmon was delicious and I concur. I did not have the coleslaw but he said it was also delicious. The serving size of the fish and chips was pretty good size. The short ribs were an adequate size and I'm sure with the vegetable pretty filling. Ambiance: I loved the ambiance of this restaurant. It was well lite, modern, clean, and spacious. Great decor and lots of televisions in the bar area for the sports enthusiast to enjoy a drink while watching the game. Service: The service was great. The food was served fresh, hot an quick. The server was pleasant and professional. The server recommended the salmon fish and chips and he was right. Parking: Parking is across the street in a parking garage. I stayed the night at the hotel so I dont know if there is additional charge for parking when not at the hotel. Overall: Beautiful restaurant great for meeting after work, dinner with friends or a date night. The menu is varied and sophisticated. It has everything from quick late night pizza to salads and soup to entrees such as chicken picatta, steaks and pan roasted salmon. This review is specifically for the Love is a Drag Valentine's Day Brunch at Cafe Whitney. My friend and I reserved a 2-person table about one month in advance. It was $20 per person to attend, paid via Eventbrite ticketing. We arrived at 10:30am and received a wrist band and waited in a brief line. The line moved quickly and they already had my name and table ready. We were promptly seated and our drinks taken. Of course we ordered bottomless mimosas. The staff was very efficient. Drinks served and food orders taken. We both had the burrito ahogado - three eggs, cheese, black bean pureé, pico, avocado, smothered in ranchero salsa & crema and served with potatoes. There is an option of chorizo, bacon or sausage. I had the chorizo and my friend went with no meat. These burritos were hugely delicious. I wound up making mine into three meals with the leftovers. We both would order again. Cafe Whitney actually has a really nice brunch menu so definitely might try something new on our next visit. Our waiter was prompt with both our food and refilling carafes of mimosas. Always appreciate good service, especially when bottomless mimosas are involved!! :-) Next... the drag queen show. Fabulous! The dancers were beautiful in makeup, hair and dress and kept us laughing! Bring your $1 bills for tips. We did not know they took dancing tips but fortunately we had some cash on hand to join the fun. The MC was engaging and entertaining and kept the crowd excited. The DJ spun lots of great, upbeat fun tunes. There were several men there with their girlfriends/wives and they seemed to really enjoy the attention they got and played along. My late husband would have truly enjoyed these queens and the positive energy! A fun time for everyone. We sure are glad we booked early in advance as it sold out shortly thereafter so be sure to get your tickets early on. Highly recommend! read more

While there were portions of the experience that were 5 stars, overall it couldn't quite add up. I hope next time is an improved experience. Pros - The Climber's Hash is delicious! The hollandaise sauce balances out the crispy chunks of salty corned beef and smashed potatoes. Highly recommend! - The burrito is a large portion size. - The Ambiance and decor feels somewhat upscale. - Service was friendly and prompt. Room for improvement / Reasons for the lower rating - Being the focal point of the Burrito Ahogado, the avocado was partially spoiled. Interesting choice to not to just use another avocado. - Additionally, the sauce on the burrito seemed like they just opened a can dumped it on. It was cold (room temp at best) and tasted like cheap, premade enchilada sauce. Looking at the photo, the cheese didn't event attempt to melt in the sauce. - As there wasn't background music until the end of our meal, there was a loud, sound drowning out conversation. Maybe since it was an open kitchen, it was the refrigerators? The ventilation fans? Whatever it was, it was distracting. - There isn't any on-site parking. We decided to give this well-rated place a try, but unfortunately it was disappointing. When we arrived, we were told they were no longer serving breakfast. It was only 11:10 AM, which is understandable, but I wish the breakfast cutoff time had been clearly listed on the website. I ordered the turkey club sandwich. The flavor was okay, but it was so oversized that it was difficult to eat. Each bite felt unbalanced--one bite was mostly bread and lettuce, the next was bread, tomato, and a little meat. The fries were actually very good--thin, crispy, and crunchy--but they arrived cold. Considering there were only two other tables occupied, I was surprised they weren't served hot. The cocktails were the biggest disappointment. My friend ordered a Paloma with tequila instead of mezcal, but it still had a strong smoky flavor, making us wonder if mezcal was used anyway. I ordered the rum tiki cocktail, and it was extremely bitter and difficult to drink. Overall, the experience didn't live up to the reviews. There were a few positives, but the food and drinks fell well short of expectations. I'd be hesitant to return. read more

My family had such a wonderful experience the three times we were there for Saturday breakfast and dinner, then breakfast on Sunday before we left out of town. The food was delicious, but most of all the service was exceptional. The staff was super respectful & attentive. They listened, had good eye contact, and were very accountable! We waited for about ten minutes by the wait to be seated sign, only 2 tables had people seated, the people kept ignoring us even though I was on crutches and obviously not comfortable standing. Finally a girl comes by, seats us, says she'll be back with water, but then walks past us several times...finally a guy that's been standing around doing nothing for the past 10 minutes apologizes for the long wait, and says he'll come back with water and yay! He does! He also takes our order, we just got the flatbread, which came out fairly quickly, but wayyyy underdone. It then took them forever to bring us the bill, they kept walking around us, but never any eye contact, refilling my empty water, or checking up on us. Check in: Cafe Whitney is always a good bet at happy hour! We showed up on a Tuesday night for a burger and beer ($12.99) and charred Brussel sprouts. We also ordered a flatbread that was great. It's 50% off regular prices for non specials. The burger was huge and came with cheese, onion, tomato slice and a large dill pickle. You choose your beer and that's it. How did I miss this restaurant all this time?? We went here for the first time last Saturday evening because it was close and we were hungry. First, big shout out to our server Raquel who was so helpful, attentive and generally pleasant to talk to. This was some of the best food I have had in months if not longer! Don't get me wrong, I have had delicious food at a lot of places but this was a kindof flavor experience that one rarely experiences and I was not expecting it. We started with the Fritto Misto which I expected to be a selection of battered and fried but this was something I have never had before. They were lightly dusted? With a mild coating that was just incredible. I can't describe the flavor exactly because we ate it too quickly to note what the ingredients might be. I had the salmon fish and chips and my friend had the pork belly ramen. My fish was tender, not too heavily breaded but an actual breading different than the Misto. Paired with a house tartar sauce...yum! The fries though! They were wedges but they had the best crisp on the edges especially that were full of flavor and the inside was fluffy. The ranch is also housemade and I alternated between that and the rest of the basil aoli from the misto. The slaw is also housemade and fresh. The Ramen was perfectly cooked, full of flavor and topped with a whole Sunnyside up egg that finished cooking in the Ramen after it was cut up. Stopped in for dinner as we were attending a concert at Cargo and we saw that we would get 10% off our meal (which we forgot to use but that's another story!). Me and my husband both got the salmon with the risotto and it was to die for. Salmon was perfectly seasoned and the risotto was nice and creamy and cheesy. The one and only downside to the whole experience was the bar forgot to make our drinks so we didn't get them until we were started on our dinner already but the server noticed they weren't dropped off and apologized profusely. Mistakes happen so it didn't sway my rating! Will definitely eat here again. read more

11/15/2025 came here for the first time for breakfast and it was amazing. The food was sooo good, the service was awesome, the restaurant was so clean and there was DJ Trivia there. Had the whole restaurant answering trivia questions and 1st 2nd 3rd place got a little $ taken off their bill. It was so fun playing, my granddaughter was totally into it. Tom was fantastic and this restaurant stands out in our recent trip to Reno. The food was delicious -- (chicken piccata) and tacos.

We went for Cinco de Mayo and they had a pretty good special going on - 3 Tacos, Chips & Salsa, and choice of Margarita, Modelo, or house wine for $20. The taco options were Carne Asada, Chicken Tinga, and Mushroom Al Pastor (or one of each). I personally liked the Mushroom al pastor. The service was super attentive, the ambiance is pleasant, and they also validate valet which is super convenient so you don't have to find parking and walk. I wasn't seated at the bar that area looked nice too if you wanted to watch a game on their couple TV's or meet up with some friends. read more
