This place is so UNDERRATED! Such a peaceful atmosphere, consistent food, and chill staff; I can't believe that Washoe Public House isn't getting the hype it deserves! The eating area is very spacious and commodious. Though this place has a casual vibe, the presentation of the food is totally fine-dining material. Each dish, especially the Citrus glazed salmon, is served as a piece of art. I've been here around three times before I installed yelp, and am excited to finally leave a review. The short rib, was absolutely amazing. The short rib was so tender, and each brussels sprout was a literal flavor bomb. The brussels sprouts I've had at other places have flavor only on the exterior, whereas the brussels sprouts here play a different game. The short rib is served in a really big portion. Though it may look dark from the photos, there are actually three big pieces. I loved loved loved the sauce; there's a sweet tangy taste to it, though it reminded me a lot of BBQ sauce. This short rib was a win. Chefs kiss. The truffle lasagna was terrific; so much sauce in between the lasagna layers. I could absolutely make out the truffle flavor in this dish. However, I recommend eating this dish quickly, as the lasagna stiffens really quickly. Thirty minutes after it was served, I went it to take another bite, and it wasn't as good anymore. The ceasar salad +beef is a great choice for a light but filling meal when you're currently on a healthy diet. Each dish here comes in giant portions, but even after you finish this salad, it won't feel too heavy on your body. I think it's because Washoe is really light on the dressing levels; perfecting the amount so it doesn't overtake the fresh flavor of the greens or leave the salad bland and insipid. However, the beef was a bit too well done and on the firmer side. The first time coming here, I was totally shocked to find out that the food they served did not match the relaxed and informal vibe the setting sets up. Not a bad thing at all. It's been awhile since my last review, so figured it s time to update it. We have been here often over the last eight years - usually for lunch but an occasional dinner or drinks and apps on the patio with friends. Our most recent visit was dinner to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary. It still maintains it's casual atmosphere. The entrance has shifted to the Ridge Street side of the building. A good decision. It always felt a bit cramped to check in in the bar area especially when they are busy. Dining area is now mostly in the back room. While the setting is casual, the food is upscale - including the burgers. They offer game meats, elk, kangaroo, venison, and wild boar, in addition to high end beef and a small selection of seafood. They also have a few vegetarian/vegan options. I had the Citrus Glazed Salmon with root vegetables and squash. It was very good. The salmon was fresh and and flaky and perfectly cooked. My husband had the Rock Candy Short Rib. He deemed it "acceptable" Mine was paired with a light dry Savengon Blanc. Service was good and our satisfaction was checked. I debated between a 4 or 5 star experience - I decided on 5 mostly due to the quality of the meal. Return visit? Yes. read more

We came to WPH on a whim last night and surprisingly disappointed. We were sat promptly a the hostess and waitress were very helpful and polite. They seem to have updated their chairs, and they felt like cheap patio furniture. I think they were made of plastic. My wife's go to is one of the salads with a chicken breast. They upped the price on the menu to $10 for a chicken breast on a salad. Total cost was $26. I get that pried have gone up, but this felt ridiculous. She couldn't believe it and ordered the chicken sandwich instead which was $16. My favorite item on the menu was the venison patty melt. They changed the menu and it is now only offered during lunch which was a big disappointment. That melt and the sweet potato fries are why I come back. They charge an upscale price, but do not offer an upscale experience. I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. read more

The food/ingredients themselves were of good quality but the concepts of both our dishes left a lot to the imagination. If you are going to make a meatball sub maybe do something to elevate it... I have had better from Capriottis... and this open faced Ruben... not sure why... just give us the other piece of bread. The drink smelled lovely and my husband enjoyed it it. The food quality was great as I had the burger and fries, but can't really judge the food as that is a generic option. Food was average at best. Energy was lacking for a Friday night with lo-fi rainy coffee shop style music. Our server's greeting wasn't "Welcome" or "Good evening" as she went straight for the "Can I get you something to drink?". The lobster roll was overdone and dry so they offered to replace it. She asked if we wanted to keep the fries that came with it while they made the shrimp so we did. They then tried to charge us $8 for a side of fries since we kept it. She took that off the bill when I asked but that was kind of ridiculous. Guy should pop back in and bring Robert Irvine with him. read more

I passed this place a few times over the years thinking it was just a corner bar. The dining room isn't visible in the dark. Im glad I finally found it! Started with a fried prawn appetizer and a Smoke Signal (smoky old fashioned) Prawns were nice. I may come back for fish and chips for lunch soon! The drink was interesting. As a former smoker, smoked old fashioneds usually make me cough when you take the top off. It was topless and when it got to me, the smoke was gone but the sublime taste was still there! Main course for me was the duck breast with risotto, Brussel sprouts and squash. Duck and sauce were great as were the veggies. Im not the world's biggest fan of risotto so if I could, I'd switch it out for their fries fried in duck fat! Churro cake was a perfect dessert! Great service! Beware: Not Dog Friendly! I went there a couple of weeks ago to sit outside on the patio area with my little dog (whom sits quietly and frequents many eateries and public places with me). I am a local and we live in a large high rise downtown. He's NEVER been refused from entering a business. A handful of them just ask if he's a service dog and are super friendly and accepting. They had just opened and no other customers were outside. The waiter approached me said the owner does not allow dogs on the premises. I was really surprised but also hungry. I told him I would just get an order to go. He took my order, I paid, then he went back inside. Thirty seconds later he returned and said the owner does not want me even WAITING there with my dog while I waited for my to go order. I was floored! I ended up having to stand on the sidewalk until my order was ready: still in shock. A few minutes later, the waiter handed me my to go order, apologized profusely and said he was new. I could tell he felt bad about the situation-not his fault. The waiter and owner made a giant mistake by not even asking if he was a service dog. I didn't even try to protest at this point since I was shut down so quickly. There's a sign that says service dogs welcome: See photo below. I will NEVER go back to this business. Many dog owners in my building know about this incident and also said they will not be supporting the business. The food isn't that great either but living dt there are limited options so I occasionally put it in the rotation. Thank God you have your short rib grilled cheese to keep you afloat. *eye roll* Shame on you for such poor treatment! The food was decent- the beet salad was the best but the lettuce it was on did not go well with the beets or the dressing. I ordered the duck risotto which was also decent but the duck had a ton of fat still on it. I know it's a fattier piece of meat but typically when I get it at restaurants there isn't as much fat. The biggest issue we had was we came in a group of 4 and asked to be on separate checks. The waitress said the system doesn't allow that and the bill was on one check but they could split it evenly 4 ways but we all go different prices items. While looking for a place to enjoy a good steak-this was rated as a top choice. While their Elk was top notch, service was great, and charcuterie was enough to feed 4-there were some misses. It is definitely not a place for kids-no kids menu-also best to call for menu before coming as items seem to be ever changing. Potstickers were HEAVY on the star anise flavor making it almost unenjoyable. The duck was a little tough and not as good as Ive had elsewhere. Harvest salad was delish. Drinks were good. Pork belly Mac and cheese was the best (sorry too tasty, no pic) Portion sizes were large for small plates and easily could work for an entree or sharing. They have many full size entrees as well. Street parking available, meter if during the day. Place is a good size and we were seated quickly. The restaurant is a retro/rustic modern vibe. The last time I came to this location was when it was SoDo. I was not as impressed as I thought I should be. Upon entering, we were greeted half heartedly. We sat near the bar on a high top. We were comfortable. My meal, schnitzel, was tasty although the meat a bit fatty and tough. The rye spatzel had little taste or substance. I took half home as it was a large serving. I enjoyed a cocktail, the washojito, prior to being served. The rest of our table went low key casual for their meals. A veggie. Burger, beet salad and venison burger. I will say the sweet potato waffle fries were yummy and addicting. I was interested in dessert and asked our server for recommendations. He didn't rave about anything in particular but recommended the basque cheesecake or Crème brûlée. I went with cheese cake. It was good although I do prefer more traditional NY cheese cake with graham cracker crust. The berry compote and whipped cream were well done and a nice compliment. We noticed there wasn't a chocolate option which was a downer. My overall feel was that the staff was tired. There was no enthusiasm and the vibe a bit low. For a Saturday evening it was very slow. Arrived at 3pm on a Tuesday . Several people at tables in the bar, and a couple of people in the dinning area. I was glad to be able to still order from the lunch menu. Lunch ends at 2pm and dinner begins at 4pm. Had a great Jalepeno cocktail, and the Pork Belly Bahn Mi, with pickled vegetables. The sandwich was hot and good. Tender pork belly and thick slices of jalepeno, and good amount of sauce. I love pickled vegetables and always order them whenever available. These were not super pickly but a refreshing side. These past 2 weeks I've been celebrating my birthday. Yes, I'm one of those people that has a bday month. This year I decided that I would eat things I've never had before. In the past I've had wild boar and bison and I thought that was amazing but... what? Kangaroo meat!!!! Yes yes... only at Washoe Public House! and to tell ya the truth, I couldn't find a better place anyway to prepare my bday celebration meals of any meals for that matter. I was here on October 13th and had Kangaroo medallions with a cherry sauce with buttery garlicky mashed potatoes and sweet roasted butternut squash; heavenly. The Roo was cooked to perfection and that sauce compliments it so well. I loved it! I think I heard that this was the last day they were serving that. I could eat that every weak. It's just delicious. Yesterday I was back for the double elk chops. I've had these before but since they're out of the Roo these would be my second choice. I ordered them between med rare and rare. They arrived medium well but I waited around for 18 min and they brought me back a perfectly cooked double elk chop served over a mix of root vegetables, I identified turnips but there was 3 other potato like veggies I couldn't. They were all very tasty. The service was perfect as always. Whether is water, spirits, or beer, the staff never leaves you with an empty glass. I love them! I love the ambience of the restaurant. Perfect mix of modern and classy but you can still dress comfortably and enjoy an awesome meal. I couldn't decide on my dessert, I'm going to have to try one next time. My heart was set on their ice cream sandwich with roasted marshmallow cream on top but I was sadly informed they don't serve that anymore. I'm starting a petition to bring back that ice cream sandwich!!! Or I'm simply going to beg the chef to bring it back!!!
