Even with Gordon's fish & chips and Smee's in town, Ryan's is by far the best fish and chips in Reno. I have eaten exclusively the fish and fries several times, and it is still quality for the price. Took my British friend here for him to try and he agreed, although very hot temperature wise, you cannot beat the taste for the price. Ryan's has been around for quite some time, and under new management (previously Von Bismarck) you can tell they are working out some kinks. The ideal plan is to have a rotating meat pie of the week, but so far it's stout and mushroom, which I also thought was hearty and flavorful. Was better before the new owners. Food orders must be placed at an iPad, which is usually fine, but they aren't including details of what comes on/with each item. Impossible to order a burger w/o burger sauce - which is slopped on in a quantity that makes an incredibly messy burger. Some people don't like cold burger sauce on their hot burgers. iPad menu doesn't even reflect that a modest portion of fries comes with the burger. Had I been able to order my burger how I wanted it, I may not have been so disappointed by the unfriendly bartender. Where is Afuz? Does she still work there? She was always so lovely & welcoming. I have been wanting to come to Ryan's for a long time! It finally felt right to go there Friday afternoon to watch the World Cup. My girlfriend and I walked in and were able to find a high top right away. You order at the counter on a tablet for food and take a number to your table. Drinks are served directly from the bartender. The whole reason I wanted to visit Ryan's was the pickle beer! It was everything I wanted. I have a feeling I'll be craving this beer often and needing to pop in to Ryan's for a visit. I love their traditional Irish menu as well which included fish and chips, shepherds pie, Rueben sandwich and more. This was hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Ryan's has changed owners. The bar has received a deep cleaning and the best burger in town got a make over. The bun has been upgraded and it is kind of a nice change. However, it falls apart quickly when the burger juices start flowing. The lettuce leaves are no longer there to assist in keeping a juicy burger together. They have been replaced with a hand full of shredded lettuce. I'm not a fan of the new pickles, they aren't bad just different. The fries are now steak fries and they were cooked perfectly. The burger is still good. It's just different. There was nothing really wrong or unpleasant during our meal. It's just different and change is hard. read more

Ryan's is back in 2026! Went in last night to see what the reboot looked like. The dusty bottles are gone, as well as the slot machines. The bar has keep to its classic vibe, but with a solid cleaning. The new food menu looks good, and next time I will try the Ryan's world famous burger. They had the best burger in town once upon a time, and I hope the reboot version meets that expectation. I did have the "cold heaven", it was very good. It was slightly sweet, but not over sweet. My boss got burgers from here for lunch for the small family owned business where I work. One of my coworkers called in the order since it was a bigger order. The guy that answered the phone was rude and used foul language. Once the order was picked up the bartender came outside to complain about how much his tip wasn't. Not only was my coworker not using his own money to pay, I my coworker tips based on service and the service that had been provided was garbage. This place was a gold mine. I recently read an article from ourbigescape.com titled "3 Top Hole-in-the-Wall Reno Joints". I'm not going to lie; hole-in-the-wall will always spark my interest because the mainstream seems allergic to that term. We arrived early for dinner yesterday, around 5 pm, and the place was empty. We walked in and found what I had hoped for: an Irish dive bar that looked the part in all the right places. They had a medium-sized back room with a pool table, a must for me, and dive bars. We decided on the famous Rubin sandwich, cheeseburger, and onion rings. The onion rings were just fine with your regular large, greasy rings. The cheeseburger was a "good solid burger, good meat, nice char." I had the famous Rubin. Any sandwich with famous or the world's best in any self-proclaimed menu item makes a little laugh. Well, I'll be the first to tell you that using famous for this sandwich was well deserved. The meat, flavor, bread, and overall taste were out-of-this-world good! It wasn't a greasy pile of food. It was a work of art. This Rubin sent my tastebuds over the moon and straight to heaven. This recipe was passed down from the previous owner/cook, who worked there for over 30 years. He taught them how to make the Rubin, and they stayed true to form. Amazing! I came to find out our bartender, Lee, was the owner. We told her about the article and the reason why we came in. She couldn't have been more welcoming and sweet to us "newcomers" walking into her place. In fact, everyone is welcome, and there is no such thing as newcomers to her. This sandwich and bar is on my radar now. If you want an amazing Rubin, then you need to get your butt over there. My only advice is don't go hungry. read more

Lunch today was amazing. My friend was in a pickle whether or not to go with one of their signature burgers or a Corned Beef sando. When the bartender came over, my friend explained her quandary. Without hesitation, the bartender said, "you'll love the Corned beef" in so many words. I ordered their Buffalo Chicken sangwich. We were looking for some good hangover food on New Year's Day and everywhere was full due to the capacity rules. We got lucky with Ryan's, and honestly it will be one of my first choices next time. Our waitress was BEYOND friendly and helpful and took such amazing care of us. And the food was really delicious. I got a chicken bacon ranch sandwich with extra cheese and it was super delicious. They do use a frozen chicken patty, but I cut them some slack because they have a tiny little broiler area to cook in. The ranch was made from scratch and the veggies were insanely fresh. My wife and I came here on a Sunday about 11am to grab something to eat. We had attempted to come in a few months ago but unfortunately they were closed that day. Do not judge this place by what it appears. It is filled with locals that will welcome you. As soon as we opened the door we were pleasantly surprised - it is smoke free and there are quite a few bar stools which allow you to try your luck. There are also several tables. This is a pretty small place. We had a seat at the bar amongst several other people. We were immediately greeted and provided menus and our drink orders were taken. The menu is simple but there are many good options. We both decided on the patty melt with fries and based on other reviews we also ordered a half order of cheese curds. The cheese curds were yummy and our sandwiches arrives shortly afterwards. Everything looked and tasted delicious. We felt welcomed and enjoyed our experience. Great local bar! He said about 25 min, so we drove around Downtown and Wells people watching and mural hunting. Anyways, pulled up front 20 min later (a couple street parking spaces) and headed inside. The man behind the counter cooking burgers was just staring my order and it took another 15 min to be ready. He advised me to nibble on the cheese curds on the way home and we happily did! The curds were not too greasy, nice garlic powdery type crust and flavor. They really hit the spot for the craving I had for them. The burgers were really good as well. Well sized, well cooked with a nice little char on them. Burgers came with fries (standard burger solid) and sides of ranch and ketchup with a decent supply of napkins. It was National Burger Day! No messing around here, oh no! After hearing the best burgers in town was at Ryan's... Never been before so okay, let's give them a try! And we weren't disappointed at all! It's a total dive joint, small and yes in the 'hood' not ghetto kinda hood but still in the hood! A place where everyone knows everyone! And they made us feel welcome :-). Joy was the only one behind the bar and cooking, our bartender and chef!! She was awesome and rocked it and always remained pleasant and happy! Loved her attitude!
