You walk in and pick a spot to sit at! I have my favorite table. On Tuesdays they have spaghetti you can get red or pesto or half and half. It comes with roast beef on top. It's so good! Also you get a nice fresh roll and butter. I usually order a soft drink and it comes in a can with a glass of ice. If I wasn't going back to work, I would have the NV state drink..... the famous Picon Punch. The Coney is an old time favorite amongst locals. We tried to get there by 11:30 before it gets too busy and the parking lot fills up. This is a great lunch spot with no thrills just good old Reno history that lives inside the walls. We went to Coney Island Bar for a volunteer luncheon. There were over 20 of us at the luncheon, so we took up quite a bit of space and were pretty packed in the back room. We were served pasta, salad, and chicken. The food was good, the service was also pretty good for how many people were there. Coney Island Bar was a big surprise to us! We have lived in Reno/Sparks for many years and thought it was mainly on old neighborhood bar. But after our neighbors told us how great the food is, we decided to check it out. We waited until we saw the Friday night salmon special and it was absolutely delicious! The salmon was served over spinach with a chopped tomatoes/capers topping. It also came with a side of polenta. Oh my -- I felt like I was at a 5 star restaurant! My husband had linguini with pesto with an added side of roasted chicken. It is rare for him to compliment food but he thought it was really good. Dinners came with homemade soup or salad (I had the soup, my husband upgraded to spinach salad). My neighbor said to make sure to have their Picon Punch, Nevada's state drink, so I did! One menu is for Monday-Wednesday-Friday, while there are two different ones for Tuesday and Thursday. I assume there is a one different for weekends but that wasn't listed on the regular menu. This place makes me so happy. Their specialized menu of DAILY food is so fun. It forces you to come in on different days to try different items. I went in and had the pastrami on rye, just the half, but trust me I couldn't eaten a whole (and should have). It comes with a pickle slice but there are loads of different sides to choose from too. Such a cool and funky place, inhabited by so many locals. The food is solid, along with a pretty active bar. I've ordered a myriad of different cocktails and each one is perfect when given to you. The bartenders are just enjoyable a very verbose when they get warmed up. When you are dining, you'll get a good, hearty meal also. If we're in for lunch, there are a lot of good things, but my go to is the French Dip, except on Thursdays when ya gotta go for the Corned Beef / Italian Sausage & Cabbage. They were fatty but the meat part was delicious. This restaurant is old-time Reno. We ate at a high top table in the bar. We were the only women there! But we did not feel awkward or unsafe. There were female servers. The bar had gaming and there were some regulars sitting there day-drinking. (I'm just jealous - I had to go back to work!). This place was a complete surprise to us! our car club had our Christmas dinner here, and when we drove up, I wasn't sure I wanted to go in. In the darkness of a murky night, it looked like a dive. But the food was utterly amazing. We had a delicious salad, garlic bread, and the best lasagna I have EVER eaten. Then they brought our succulent roast chicken, and ended the meal with bread pudding. I don't normally like bread pudding, but this was epic. The service was great - it was a wonderful evening, We can't wait to take friends back for the lasagna, but the only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that it's really hard to tell on their website when they are serving what! read more

The menu is like an old school Italian Deli- Hot Pastrami with side salad was easily as good as any Pastrami Sandwich I've ever had, my boss had the Rueben with beef and barley soup, he said the soup was really good, and the sandwich was very similar to mine so it was excellent!!! Really friendly waitstaff, got big smiles from the bartender when we walked in and our waitress was really sweet, told us all about the weekly specials. The restaurant was filled with mostly older folks , like retirees who I would assume were all regulars, the place has a the vibe of a local secret spot that once you eat there you go back again and again!It made a great impression and I look forward to taking friends and family to enjoy this great little spot that most people would drive by and never guess was a great Restaurant. My wife and I came here a little after noon on a Friday for our regular weekly lunch date. We had been here once before but had not eaten food. We talked about wanting to try it again for the food and decided to today. My wife looked on their website earlier in the week to verify their hours. The parking lot was very full but we were able to find a spot and went inside. It was busy but there were plenty of tables and we were almost immediately greeted and our drink orders were taken. The menus are already on the table along with a brief history of the business and building. My wife decided on "The Mess" which is a tamale and beans with a salad. I chose the grilled ham and cheese sandwich with Swiss cheese and added a cup of beef barley soup. The inside is quaint and charming - it looks like there is definitely a good amount of regular customers. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked good. My wife wasn't sure what to expect but was surprised when the salad mix was on top of the tamale and beans. She thought it was good but not mind blowing and she later told me that something did not sit well with her stomach. She ended up having heartburn that afternoon. I thought the beef barley soup was delicious and the ham and Swiss sandwich was amazing as well. Overall we are rating it a 4 and we will come back! Part of the charm of this place is that it is not fancy but you are in for some delicious down-home cooking. It is definitely an old Reno hang out. It has been family owned since 1935. One of the favorite meals is the half and half for lunch on Tuesdays. One half is spaghetti with meat sauce and the other half is pesto pasta included with a side of roast beef. You can't go wrong with that dish. Another favorite for lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays is The Mess which is a homemade enchilada topped with beans and salad. We recently went on a Friday night for dinner. My husband and I both ordered the linguine with pesto sauce and a side of the roasted chicken. The chicken is "fall off the bone" tender and soooo juicy. Do not miss it. The pesto pasta is my favorite dish! I do not know what Greg (the owner) does to it but it is evenly covered with pesto and lots of it. Another favorite of ours is the bread pudding. It is completely worth the extra calories. read more

Ordered the French dip, which was essentially a roast beef sandwich with au jus to heat it. The roast beef was yummy - had that burnt beef roast flavor on the crust. YUM! Came to the Coney for a dinner before a gold tournament. The interior is as cool as the vibe. The bartenders have an amazing sense of humor and provide great service. They also have a good selection of wine. The food on the particular night was roasted chicken, pesto pasta, marinara pasta, sausage and peppers and salad. It was all amazing but I particularly liked the sausage and peppers because the peppers were lightly cooked instead of being mushy but definitely cooked with the sausage. I have lived in reno for about 15 years now and I'm almost embarrased to admit this was my first trip to the Coney. The place is a Reno institution. It's been there forever. Since 1945 when Prater/4th street was a busy thouroughfare packed with amusement parks, boxing venues and littered with hotels for a miriad of vacationers. The place looks exactly like I imagine it look then and the staff is as friendly as can be. The food is good too. I had the rueben and it was great. The meat was grilled to perfection with nice crispy edges on grilled rye as it should be. Price was good too. $70 for lunch for 6 people. That's pretty good. Most people come for the special everyday but I was really feeling the rueben. If you still haven't stopped by the Coney, you should. It's old school Reno, right down to the bricks. read more

Coney Island Bar is one of Reno's old school restaurants. It's located on West 4th Street near the Prater freeway exit. They have excellent lunch and dinner options. Perfect weather for it, considering it's Jan. Friend got cheeseburger that she said was very good. I had French dip. Bun was very soft and fluffy. Aujus was tasty and plenty of meat. First time here, but definitely will return! They don't have fries. They do offer soup if the day which I noticed a few people ordered. They have different offerings for food different days if the week. They also sell take and bake lasagna, I recall the pan that feeds 8 was $50. Not sure if it's a pre order thing or not, probably. Good for a kitchen connected to an older bar. This is the Popeye (I ams who I ams) spot you either like or dislike. The food looks great, service was friendly and fast. If you're looking for a old (dive bar-ish) with food then you found your spot. If you're looking for great tasting burger and the bar is an afterthought then keep it moving. I can't comment on their other food menu items so I hope people try it out for themselves. The burger was just a home grilled patty (panderosa meat), very little flavor, tomato slice gave up before it got to the table, iceberg lettuce (white and less green leaf), pickles where from a jar, and condiments out of small squeeze bottle that may have been around a little too long. The patty was placed on a sourdough (a bit odd). The mayonnaise spread on a toasted slice so of course it turned back into oil and absorbed into the bread . The tea was not great and probably bought in bulk, Tasted like bitter tea filtered through used barn yard hay. The plain chip.... a bag of lays. If they don't have the energy to make a good burger than just take it off the menu and concentrate on some of their other foods. Like a lot of places I've found in Reno that have been around a long time...they've given up and just count on their old faithful customers without having to work for a new group. I got "the cyclone" which is basically a chili cheese dog. I was actually really unsatisfied with this dog. I really wish the chili was more chili like because it looked like a bunch of ground beef or something it wasn't like the type of chili you'd think it was very bland only the hot dog link itself had flavor..
