I've always wanted to try this place, and a friend wanted to take several of us out after an organization event. I got the Caesar salad, which had a great flavor with a housemaid Caesar dressing, but the portion was enough to cover the bottom of the plate. For my entrée, I got the 21 ounce ribeye, which seemed no larger than a sizzler steak and it was $95, the baked potato was the best part of the meal. Full of butter, sour cream cheese, bacon, bits, and chives. For dessert, I got the cheesecake which was very soft and delicious, the whipped cream that went with it tasted homemade and was very sugary. The service from Tony was top-notch. My drink was never empty and he greeted us with a smile. The ambience of the restaurant is very cool with a modern hunters retreat kind of feel. 100% honesty, the price of the meal isn't matching to the quality of the food that you receive. Been a fan for a while. Went again on 3/21. The good: Lobster tail, Salmon, and scallops were all good. The meh: Different, not as friendly bartender. Lobster Mac and cheese is so not worth it. Neither were the king crab legs. Never met a lobster bisque I didn't like and still haven't but this one was close. Not worth it either. The bad: while our server was ok, the fact we (party of 6) were seated right at 7 but didn't get our last check until 10:01 is unacceptable. I am saddened to be sharing this review as Anthony's used to be my favorite steakhouse in Reno, and the one I recommended to anyone who would listen. The last two times we went, things weren't as great, but we gave it another long pause and went last night for my husbands birthday. Unfortunately, it was the last time. Getting the reservation was simple, and the women checking people in were kind. The restaurant was clean, but smelled heavily of fish. Not like passing by a table and smelling a dish, it was so potent from our table and no one was seated close. My husband and I both ordered the NY, one with mashed potatoes and one with a baked potato. I ordered mine with chimichurri, because it was once upon a time my favorite. I ordered the onion soup, a glass of wine, and a Diet Coke. The Diet Coke never came out but was quickly fixed when our table was checked on. The soup is no longer served how it used to be (in the onion) and so that was a bummer, but overall I still really enjoyed the taste. The complimentary bread is also different now, lacking flavor, and simply nothing special. The chimichurri recipe is also much different, and now is served as a thick paste. Both steaks were cooked perfectly, but the superb taste that they used to have just isn't there anymore. The restaurant was very kind and had given my husband a complimentary dessert for his birthday. When we attempted to eat it, it crumbled apart, almost as if it had been frozen and wasn't completely room temp. The check came and we were charged for two soft drinks, even though we only had the one, but our waiter fixed the check no problem and comped the soft drink that was had. Overall, service is still good, & the people are all extremely kind. However, for the price tag, you are better going to any other steakhouse here in Reno. I miss the old Anthony's. read more

The details: I'vee read a lot of good things about Anthony's Chophouse so when the wife got us tickets to see Magique at the Celebrity Showroom for Saturday night, I thought it was a perfect time to try it. The restaurant is located downstairs from the main casino floor, we saw a few people confused on where to go along our way. It was just before 6 and most tables were open, no need for a reservation. The atmosphere and lighting was pleasant and comfortable. The service: Started well, but after we stated we didn't want wine, our experience turned. Ordering anything was an awkward exchange from being offered soda and lemonade rather than being asked if we wanted anything to drink. We ended up not ordering our cocktails until we ordered our food. It was little to no surprise that we were served our soup and Entree, but didn't receive our appetizer. When we brought it up halfway through our entree, the server apologized and asked if we still wanted it. The soup portion was so large we decided against it so he said he would remove it from the bill and give us a complimentary small desert, which we thought was very gracious. We turned down an additional chocolate cake he offered. The waiter later came to our table and refilled our waters himself without asking, which was uneeded as they were already filled by his assistant. He literally added a small few drops in each glass before leaving. Then he left and soon returned with a 2nd drink for me, he put it in front of me without saying anything and headed away. We figured his water shenanigans was to see what i was drinking and this was a complimentary drink for the mistake since I didn't order or want another drink. We thought they really were trying hard to make up for the minor issue. But when we got the bill I saw we weren't charged for the oysters but we're charged for the second drink I didn't order, but also weren't charged for my wife's paloma.Paloma. I'm pretty sure my drink was more expensive than hers so im not sure what or why. After the meal when he brought the complimentary small dessert, it read happy anniversary in chocolate, which slightly confused and made us laugh. This entire experience would have been better with communication, let me know why you're giving me a drink I didn't order and tell me what your are changing on the bill, you could probably save your effoet. Bone in rib eye- at a massive 20 Oz, I was for sure taking half of it home, especially after the chowder. Love the old school ambiance with large banquette tables! Felt like stepping back in time when life moved slower. Food is mostly solid with some excellent dishes. Crab cakes are delicious. Seafood risotto is creamy and flavorful with shrimp, lobster, and scallops - the scallops were cooked to perfection. We loved that they serve a crispy pork belly strip with the wedge salad instead of the more usual bacon bits. My teenage kids split the NY strip steak and several sides. Note that the steaks come with soup or salad. Weirdly, given it's a steak house, the steak was the dish we liked the least (it was good but lacked flavor). Love that they serve a warm bread basket! Service was attentive though we didn't order dessert because no one checked in on us at the end so slight mark down. I continue to SO miss John Ascuaga. Anthony's Chophouse is located in the former fabulous John Ascuaga's Nugget. I was recently here as the guest of a friend who was attending an event. Could've been better. It's disabled-friendly. We took the elevator down to the restaurant only to then be sensory-overwhelmed by THAT ESCALATOR. That rumbling, growling, grumbling clearly unhappy escalator and letting everyone know it is very unhappy. Wait service was adequate. Second-hand cigarette smoke occasionally wafted through the restaurant. Which is an overwhelming negative for non-smokers and elderly such as us as smell and taste and health are always compromised by smoke, even from second-hand smoke. A deadened sense of smell and taste are well-documented with smoke exposure, as is shortness of breath for non-smokers, even from second-hand smoke. I asked for a Virgin Bloody Mary, was told I couldn't have one?!? I don't know why. Food: Some bread seemed old, other bread adequate. Caesar Salad lettuce tasted nasty old, croutons were minuscule and plain-generic dressing seemed from a bottle. I took one bite, spit it out. The fish and green beans were adequate. Cheesecake had some minor discoloration and cracks in the texture; tasted strange. I took one bite, spit it out. LOVED our dinner here the other night. Had the OpenTable 3- Course Dinner Experience for 2 ($129 for both of us), and it was hands-down fantastic. Included lobster arancini, which had a crisp exterior with a pillowy inside. Best I've ever had, you could really taste the lobster and the rice didn't feel like someone fried up some old risotto that they had left in the fridge like most arancini do. Instead these were delightful little bites. Great start to the menu! Second course was lobster bisque (creamy and delicious, especially with buttered bread) and a watermelon salad that was super surprising as to how good it was. Had grilled cheese on it, and a bit of pickled rind, and overall it was an absolute treat. I had a six-ounce filet with peppercorn sauce, cooked to rare, fork tender perfection and the wife had seabass that simply melted in your mouth. Dessert was a half-slice of cheese cake and half-slice of a chocolate tort, both of which were perfect in size and flavor. With this meal you can select one of three bottles of wine that they sell at or below cost. We had a great chard for $40, and I've paid more for it at TotalWine than what they charged us for it. Simply amazing...well done, AC, well done! We were really hoping to have a nice anniversary dinner together this New Year's Eve. Our 25th anniversary is tomorrow on 01-01-26. We previously had a very nice "freebie" dinner for a financial outreach. It was quite good. Well tonight with high hopes, we came for an early seating at 4:15 pm and although I had asked for a booth in my reservation, the wait staff had t adjust their accommodations. Once seated, Tony (waiter) and Jose (bus boy) were both very attentive. We ordered an Oyster Rockefeller for our starter. Then ordered our entree's, (20 oz prime rib eye and Fruitti de Mare) when the oysters arrived, we did not have an appetizer plate to eat from. We asked our waiter and were informed that "most people" used their bread plate for their appetizers?!? Okay moving forward, I ordered a 90 Dollar "Prime" Rib Eye with green peppercorn sauce. My wonderful wife ordered a Lobster/Seafood and pasta entree. So, her Lobster and seafood pasta was absent of any Lobster. After about 10 Minutes of trying it flag the Maitre' d, (his name is Art), he came to our table and we complained that there was no Lobster in my wife's dish. He stated that the lobster had simply "melted" into the dish.?!? The Maitre'd did bring a small serving of lobster to satisfy my wife. He slid it into our table and walked away. But never, ever returned to ensure our satisfaction. His lack of attention is why I'm giving this dinner a 2 star rating! Update: Hubby and I drove our RV to stay in the Nugget parking lot so we could go in and have drinks and dinner. We sooo love doing that. Erica was our server and she did fantastic. Very attentive. I ordered the filet mignon with green pepper, corn sauce, scallop potatoes on the side and asparagus that my husband and I shared the sides, he ordered the filet mignon with side of scallops, meat was cooked to perfection and I am so happy about that because I was having a hard time finding a restaurant that could do a decent steak. I had a dirty martini and husband had a couple whiskeys and then we decided to not order dessert. We had ice cream in the RV. We love the nugget because they allow us to stay in our camper in the parking lot overnight, and so we spend money at their restaurants in their slot machines. We came here for dinner before a show. My husband made reservations but we probably didn't need it, there were lots of empty seats since it was early. We were sat quickly and the server came quickly as well. The restaurant is nice and I appreciated the decoration, it's a bit dark, but aren't all steakhouses. We ordered a paloma (so strong I had to water it down), an old fashioned, seafood risotto, prime rib, Brussels sprouts and grilled oysters. We ordered clam chowder with both our main entrees. The chowder was good sized, could have been a lunch portion. It was tasty. Our entrees and Brussels came out. My risotto was pretty good. Only two scallops and two prawns came on the dish. My husband's prime rib was ok at best. Pretty tough to cut and not cooked how he ordered. Brussels were ok. The grilled oysters never came and my husband had to ask them to remove it from our tab. The waiter I think tried to make up for this and brought my husband another drink he didn't order and gave us an "anniversary" cake and cookies. The manager dismissed the issue as "caramelized," and no replacement was offered. I travel to the area every few months and have been dining at Anthony's for the past 6 years. The food and service have always been excellent with every visit. Although the bread service has changed over the years (I am not a fan of the most recent change to brown bread and sourdough) my favorites were the blue cheese, herb and sundried tomato breads. I always request Khan as my server and he is amazingly attentive and hospitable! The atmosphere and decor are nice and the private booths with curtains are romantic and cozy. I live in the SF Bay Area and frequent steakhouses here and in Napa Wine Country. I can honestly say that the steaks I have enjoyed at Anthony's have been top tier, if not THE BEST in comparison! I have eaten here several times. The several times I have eaten here before it has been phenomenal. However, this was not the case this time. The hostess was pleasant and kind. After being seated we received bread and butter. Our waitstaff was good. They filled our drinks and checked in on us throughout our meal. The Nugget used to have some of the best clam chowder in the Reno-Sparks area. My husband and son-in-law got the Bone in New York. Both commented on how tough the meat was and the flavor was just ok. My son had the salmon. It was overcooked and extremely spicy. My daughter and I had the Filet Mignon was tasty and flavorful. We got Au Gratin Potatoes and Creamed corn. The creamed corn tasted as if it came from a can. The potatoes were very good. We were all disappointed since I had talked up this restaurant. My husband and I went here for our anniversary. It is a very very fancy restaurant. You would not expect it to be downstairs of the casino it's attached to. I really feel like this restaurant adds soooo much equity to the location lol. But anyways. The location is great, the whole look of the steakhouse, is great. We enjoyed the steak and chicken dishes and thought they were cooked to perfection. It was a great date night after watching the live music at the outdoor venue. This was a solid 4 stars and will have to go back for a ribeye soon to see if this place increases in stars. The ambiance has the feel and look of an older upscale low light nice steakhouse which was great. Now for the food. The pork chops were delicious and cooked perfectly and with the right amount of flavor and seasoning ! Super job by the chef! The sides is where they lost a star. The carrots said they were glazed and they were dry to my business guest and I. The Brussels sprouts were described as having bacon and macadamia nuts but as you can see it had very little as compared to other steak houses which made the the sides just average. Tonight I had my first experience at Anthony's Chop House at the Nugget Casino and Resort. My friend Judie brought me as her guest. It was very crowded and busy because it was the last night of a special food credit offer for Gold Card and other Members. The ambiance was hectic. We were welcomed by Layne, the Hostess who was very kind & gracious. We were seated at the bar when it was our turn. We ordered our drinks and the bartender took our food order. She was working all by herself serving drinks and taking food orders. She did a great job. Appetizers came out, then the dinner, then the desserts. The service by Donovan and Dang was exceptional. The food was good. Desserts were lovely and presented well. BUT........ What stands out most in my mind, is how the General Manager treated me. He actually called me a troublemaker. I have never been called a name by someone who is supposed to represent Elegance and Quality in such a fine dining Establishment. I was shocked he said this to me and he made me cry. This was before we were even seated. I nearly left but I decided to stay. Thanks to Layne for your kindness at the hostess area. I want to thank all the servers and Chef who made the dinners so wonderful. Sometimes it's not just the food that makes a restaurant great, but the service and how you were treated that you will always remember. Our servers were outstanding but the General Manager was not. I feel from my experience tonight, the General Manager was overwhelmed and took out his frustration on me by calling me a troublemaker. Sometimes those who are at the top, forget what it's like to be a first time customer. If you are having a difficult evening, you might just need to take a break instead of calling a customer a name. The general manager never came out to the bar area to say hello or see if we were enjoying the food. In my experience, someone comes by to see if you are enjoying the food. This never happened. I've heard good things about Anthony's Chophouse for a while now. Last night I had the opportunity to go and see for myself. We really had a seamlessly wonderful time. Our waiter Luis was so spot on with perfect service. He allowed us to linger for a minute with our wonderful cocktails which I've come to enjoy rather than ordering everything all at once and feel bum rushed. Luis really took care of us in this regard. We had a perfectly paced dinner experience. The food all rated a ten! From appetizers to the wonderful house salads that felt more like a dinner salad. Yummy dressing to the point that we were all tasting each others dressing. Steaks were perfectly cooked and tasted prime. My bone marrow boat was just deliciousO! The cocktails were generously poured and tasted every bit the price that was charged. I mean, if you're going to be charged a premium price then it's appreciated that we feel we're getting our moneys worth. I loved the Elk themed dining room. The decor was done up beautifully and elegant. We were chatted up by the bartender as she passed by as well as the Maitre D' who shared information about their wine dinners which is something I'll definitely consider attending . Our car full of people, sans the DD, sang rather well I might add, all the way home to Teddy Swimms! At least we thought so! so much fun! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Anthony's Chophouse. Not only was the food incredible- the service was too! Our server, Kamel made our entire evening. He recommended the best drinks, and the best foods that we had asked about. As someone who greatly enjoys lamb, he recommended we try the Shepard's Pie made with braised lamb and this was the best meal of the night! We also brought a bottle of wine to share with the table that was difficult to open due to the cork age- Kamel graciously opened the bottle and strained the wine for us as well! We are so grateful for his kindness and personality. It made every interaction with him and the restaurant feel so special. Besides the kind service, the food was spectacular. I would visit again and again for both the lamb and incredibly cooked steaks. Truly a perfect experience for us all!! read more

I'm obsessed with this restaurant, I just wish I had more budget to afford it LOL. The service is excellent, the actual aesthetic of the restaurant is gorgeous, and the food is to die for. They make great cocktails, have a killer bread basket, and super comfortable seating at the tables. I love getting the potatoes au gratin side dish. I'm also a repeat orderer of the bone in ribeye. Did I Already Eat? We were a group of eight on New Year's Eve. We arrived at 5:45 for a reservation. It is now 7 o'clock and all I've eaten is dry bread with butter. I will update you if I ever get my food. I did finally get my food. I was in a large group on New Year's Eve. I ordered ribeye. It was cold, dry, and tasteless. I was shocked that a fine dining restaurant would serve such a low quality piece of meat. I never send food back but did this time. The manager was very accommodating and did not argue about giving me a discount. I think that most of the problems that That night had to do with the fact that it appeared that our waiter was covering most of the restaurant by himself. The rest of the blame lie squarely in the kitchen every person at our table got a terrible meal. There is no excuse for that when you're paying these kinds of prices, I would skip this place you get a better meal at Texas Longhorn. read more

They have a huge and very impressive stock of spirits and specially wines, rare wines for special occasions and an experienced Sommelier on duty@ The Chef is superb. The creations prematurely are unbelievable. Pastry chef creative performances will excite anyone... so leave room. The Winemakers monthly dinners are the best in Reno. Good food, good ambience, good drinks. Enjoyed a nice Cesar salad, crab cakes and cocktails before a concert. Service is hit or miss. Not a great experience last time. Service was pretty slow and we canceled the entrees since we were running late for the concert. When we were ready for our check they wanted to add the entrees even though we did not get them. After some back and forth they removed them. That experience left a bitter taste. read more

Sadly I was not too impressed with Anthony's chophouse. The food was decent enough, but the service was really lacking. I was already feeling hesitant when we sat at our reserved table and it took the server over 15 minutes to come say hi. They were not busy, only a few other tables on a Thursday night. I ordered a "Frey ranch old fashioned". He said they don't have that whiskey. So I said okay, I'll take the chophouse old fashioned (which is on their menu). When we got our drinks, I got a tequila mixed drink. I took the drink to the bar and explained to the bartender what had happened, and he sent me an old fashioned by the time my partner finished his. We were given a variety of bread with our soup. Everything tasted great, including the crab cakes. Lobster bisque was lacking lobster, but it still tasted good. When our main entree came, I asked for more bread. Half way through our main entree, the server checked on us and I reminded him about the olive and sun dried tomato bread we asked for. This time he only brought out the plain French bread instead of the assorted bread. My sea bass was supposed to be on a bed of "edamame succotash". I counted 3 edamame. The rest was corn. For dessert we ordered creme brulee, which was interesting. Three flavors in espresso cups. We did not get any complimentary dessert even though the reservation said it was for celebrating a birthday. Overall, there are so many other great steakhouses in Reno with above and beyond service.
