My first visit to The Jesse and it was an amazing experience! I was there for a Yelp Elite Event, and could not have had a better time! The family that owns The Jesse is so nice and welcoming. Their staff is very friendly and the service was outstanding. Service was family style and there were a number of courses. We tried Hummus, Pistachio Feta Dip, Baba Ghanoush, Za'atar Fries, Falafel, Kofte, Dolmas, Gyro Tacos, Chicken Sis Kebap, Mediterranean Pizza, and House Bakalava. The presentation was beautiful, and each dish was delicious! My favorites were the Fries, the pizza and the Baklava. The tastes were so different with each dish, and they had combined, were the delicious! I also tried their Turkish Tea(non-alcoholic) and their Persephone's Secret, and Lady of the Nyx. The drinks were delicious and had the perfect amount of flavor. The Jesse itself is in a historical building that has been restored and has a gorgeous bar area and outdoor courtyard. the I can't wait to try their Sunday Breakfast and the Food Pairing nights by their incredible Head Chef! This place is just simply amazing and unique. The Turkish fare is delicious! Went to the Sunday brunch to see what is was all about. Typical Mediterranean style dishes. Poached eggs with yogurt were served cold. Not really my style but was really good. All the breads, fruit and cheeses were very fresh. Bottomless mimosas were a treat included in the 35 dollars for brunch. All the cold cuts (charcuterie) are unlimited but the cooked stuff from the kitchen are not. Not an all you can eat buffet, it is pre fixed. Still left there with a full belly and felt good too. Sevice is impeccable and the resturaunt is very clean and well kept. Fun to look out on to 4th street and people watch. Only 4 stars today due to the fact I like my eggs warm and there was no coffee offered. We were here for a private dinner event. "A summer tasting menu with Chef Araceli." The new owners (been about two years now) are beginning to hold these exclusive events. Chef Araceli has created an unbelievable menu and Brit behind the bar did a fabulous job pairing the wines with three of the seven courses. They started out with a welcome cocktail "Golden Hour." Vodka, fresh lemon juice, saffron infused honey syrup and a couple dashes of bitters. This super refreshing drink tickles the palate and cools the senses of the summer heat. Tastes just like gentle sunshine. The first course of cold melon gazpacho was paired with a dry rose from chile. (See menu and pics) Second course was a Hamachi crudo. Not the typical thing you might expect in landlocked Reno but, it was incredibly paired with citrus slices, shaved ---- and chili oil. Great dish. 3rd: The bean puree was my least favorite when reading the menu but it hit the spot. The artichoke wrapped in fried noodle or something was super. New wine was added to accompany and pair with the gnocchi. Wow, all I can say....crispy mushrooms, goat cheese, pine nuts topped with pea shoots drizzled with truffle oil. Very tasty dish. I will be a critic here. I would have liked a bit more truffle but I also understand that too much truffle is worse than not enough. It also could've used a touch of salt and maybe a zip of pepper. One thing I might consider and I don't know if this is taboo, but I was craving a spritz of aged Parmesan, and a very small amount of lemon/lime zest.(I'm not a Michelin trained chef) The charred octopus was very similar to the same dish served at another of my favorites, Centro. In fact, the Centro chef was in attendance tonight. Very cool. Pearl onion sized potatoes accompanied a perfectly cooked and tender slices of octopus sitting in a tomato/chili sauce along side a squid ink "sauce" (more like a pudding) that was so savory and flavorful. A+ The main course, grilled ribeye with pomegranate Demi atop sumac labneh was UNSTOPPABLE. My only complaint was that I needed more beef. I wanted MORE! This was so decadent. Perfectly paired. And the red wine pairing was perfect (way to go Brit!) Overall a very good tasting dinner. All seven courses hit very well. Great pairings. I didn't want the meal to end! I had been to the Jesse when they were under previous ownership and enjoyed that one visit. So I was eager to see how new management lines up. We made a reservation for their Turkish breakfast on Sunday and it seemed like inside and outside was ramping up in busyness. We were seated almost immediately upon walking into the establishment and got to see a bit from the bar and from outside. I've had Turkish food before, but I've never had the experience like this Turkish breakfast. We had Turkish coffee, traditionally strong, and an assortment of bread, cheeses, spreads, Turkish sausage, honey with clotted cream, eggs and pastries. Everything was delicious, savory to sweet. The service was very prompt, our waitress and other staff members checked in on us regularly, brought in new dishes and took the empties away every time they passed by. WOW. The Jesse has just given Reno a fabulous new way to Sunday brunch Turkish style. I managed to make the initial Sunday brunch with friends. The partly cloudy morning was perfect on the huge patio behind the Jesse. Partially covered by a trellis of flowering vines, some tables in the sun and others under large umbrellas. Some seat inside are also available. Enter through the parking lot and you'll be greeted at the patio entrance. I highly suggest a reservation, glad we had them because this gem won't stay a secret very long. Each table received a literal smorgasbord of Turkish breakfast delights. To start, at the bar there was a long table set up with various breads, dried and fresh fruit, nuts and sliced heirloom tomatoes. I recommend a plate from here to share with the table. At the table numerous dishes will begin to arrive. Let's begin- Cheese plate with cheese and walnuts Olives Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers in olive oil Preserves Honey and clotted cream ( the table was cleaning the bowl with the bread) Breakfast spread- so delicious Sucuk, Turkish sausage, perfect bite sizes Mihlama, cheese fondue that ever bite was made more delicious when dipped in Cilbir, eggs in garlic and yogurt. Mmmm Gozleme, a thin stuffed flatbread Borek, my favorite and next to impossible to find in this area, is a very flaky pastry with cheese Simit, sesame seed ring Bread slices Cay, Turkish tea, incredibly hot Tea Coffee Turkish Coffee, also incredibly hot and powerful Mimosa The service was beyond fabulous, we had various staff members checking on us throughout our leisure hour and a half brunch session. if you're looking for a traditional chain hotel with all the standard amenities, this probably isn't the place for you. however, if you enjoy unique boutique stays, i think you'd really appreciate the jesse. parking & check-in were simple. the property has a restaurant, bar, & coffee shop on the first floor, with the hotel rooms located upstairs. there isn't an elevator, so you'll need to carry your luggage up the stairs. the room was modern & absolutely stunning. the only real downsides were that the surrounding area can be a bit noisy & the room stayed a little warm, even with the a/c running. that said, the hotel provides both a sound machine & earplugs, which i thought was a nice touch, & the warmth is likely due to the exposed brick walls. overall, if you love boutique-style hotels, i'd absolutely recommend staying here. read more

Visiting family and they brought us here for Salsa Lessons. Absolutely fun. Great space in and out. Extremely clean. Awesome cocktails and staff. Excellent selection of spirits and creativity put in. A bit slow on the service but enjoyed the wait talking with everyone. Food was brought out temperature appropriate and was flavorful. Fries a guilty pleasure for me that I don't often indulge in was well with the order. Only comment during salsa lessons we were always changing partners. Went to The Jesse this morning for the first day of their Turkish Breakfast and I was impressed with the food, ambiance and service. This is a brand new experience for The Jesse, where they served us a spread of Turkish items that were all delicious. This included olives, a tomato salad, 6 different cheeses, spinach pie, eggs, gozleme, assorted breads and dips, sausage in addition to bottomless mimosas, Turkish coffee and tea. All for $30. I love the Jesse, the patio is so spacious and is a great spot to soak up some sun with some friends. I also love coming to the Jesse for salsa nights and hope they continue to do those! I actually really like the updated menu to Mediterranean as I always found the tacos to be too expensive. The feta fries are a must really crispy and the zaatar seasoning is great. We got the beef kebab platter the pitas were yummy, tangy red onion, the beef was a little tough though too chewy but the veggies were amazing and everything looked great on the platter altogether. My passionfruit margarita was delicious and well balanced. The drinks still hit and I'm excited about the mediterranean/middle eastern flair. Laughlin as a room was laughably loud. I could hear everything on the street. Motorcycles, cop cars, regular cars, even conversations. It was the loudest hotel room I've ever stayed in: Vegas. California, New York - Manhattan, Brooklyn - no comparison. And this was on a normal night. The walls were so thin that even though I wore earplugs all night I could barely sleep. The next night I understood why a sound machine was bedside. I plugged it in for white noise and it helped a little. I'm sure it's a great bar at night, i.e. the rest of the reviews. Not a great hotel. I understood why no staff is present and there's no front desk. They'd have complaints every night; there are two other street-side rooms. I let management know via email and they offered coffee and "breakfast" the next morning. They also offered 15% off a future stay but why. I booked direct and paid $80+ more a night than usual. How about a partial refund? What was very disappointing was no coffee in the morning for two days. I booked this hotel in part because there was a cafe downstairs. The cleaning woman, who was the only person on staff present, said the baristas just didn't show up. I got a croissant before I left and the fill-in barista, though very sweet, had no experience. They said this a few times without any prompting and I tipped them well and felt sorry they had to show up and try to figure out the espresso machine. Though it was no fault of theirs, this hotel really didn't live up to its aesthetic or basic services. I wouldn't have even written this review if management didn't have the audacity to text me twice during my workday asking for one. So, here you go, Caner. Please stop now. And Yelpers. don't book a street-side room at this hotel. read more

The Jesse is a boutique hotel and bar (with Mediterranean bites), just three blocks off of the main drag (Virginia Street) in downtown Reno. I visited the bar and beautiful outdoor patio (not the hotel) in late August, with the one-and-only Michael T. I believe that the concept was previously Mexican (named Estella), and the rebrand to Mediterranean is new. We visited on a surprisingly quiet, spectacularly beautiful summer Tuesday night. We enjoyed cocktails and a sampling of their newer Mediterranean menu (hummus, falafel, salad, and more!). The drink menu was inspired and the cocktails cooled us down on a warm evening. The bites were made with fresh and flavorful ingredients. We lounged outside on the pretty, enclosed patio. We were shocked that it wasn't busier. If you live in Reno, you should check them out. I felt very entitled sitting lit up in the window eating and listening to music and watching so many homeless people walk by. It always tares up my heart. We were slightly confused becuase we had heard you could order tacos from this place, but that's the place next door that closed. This place only does Greek inspired food. Service was good. We asked for extra pita bread and tzatziki. Their pita bread is so superior to any other I've had. They FRY it. Yes FRY it! My friend is big on Greek food and chose this place. I'm just not big on Greek food in general. The yogurt chicken kabob was charred pretty good but had little flavor. The chick pea meatball things were hard on the outside. It was strange to me. I went to the launch of their new Turkish Sunday Brunch and was blown away. It's a price fixed menu for such a reasonable price point. You don't order off menu--they just start bringing stuff out. There was a cheese plate, tomato and cucumber salad, cheese fondue, sausages, a puff pastry with cheese, stuffed flat bread, and my personal favorite, soft boiled eggs with yogurt and a nice spicy garlic drizzle. They had some amazing dipping options like tahini, Nutella, cream with honey, and this magical Smokey tomato spread. Inside was a beautiful grazing table with even more breads and dried fruits. We were prepared to do a fair amount of waiting but it was a lot. We were offered water an hour after getting there while about to get our third round on our own so that was nice on an 86 degree morning. I like coming here for the old world coffee expresso and I do like ordering a ice Americano and it is a really great solid espresso drink. It is under $6 around $5.41. It is served all day so I like how there is another option where I can grab a good espresso coffee other than Starbucks while staying near the casino. . The Ambiance here is really nice and I do love the inside where there is plenty of seedings and is very cozy and warm. They have a really nice outdoor patio where it is very relaxing with lots of comfy couches and high tables as well. You can dine outside or Dine inside. I like using the patio during the late afternoons and before Sunset as well to come here in the morning and having a morning coffee with a really nice outdoor patio vibe. Went here with the girls to enjoy the outdoor seating. It's big and very cute with couches and string lights. The passionfruit margarita was really tasty. Our server was nice and made sure we were comfortable and happy with our order. The food was perfect for sharing a few different things. We got the buffalo wings with we're pretty standard. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from start to finish. Upon arrival, I immediately texted management to report two issues: the bathroom blinds would not close because the cord was broken (I am a girl with a floor to sealing open window), and the air conditioning was not working properly. Despite reaching out right away, responses never happened and unhelpful. Eventually, I was told the AC was simply on the wrong setting, even though I had already spent time troubleshooting it myself and even looked up the unit instructions online. The larger issue is that when I checked out, I was told I would receive a refund due to the problems experienced during my stay. Later, after they inspected the room, I was informed that because the blinds could be manually adjusted and the issues were supposedly "fixed," they would not honor the refund that had been promised. I traveled here for a work event and was looking forward to staying in a new area, but the lack of responsiveness, the maintenance issues, and the failure to follow through on what was communicated at checkout left a very poor impression. If you value prompt communication, properly maintained accommodations, and management standing behind what they tell guests, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Also the food was mediocre and I had to reorder a drink 2x and both times it was the wrong drink. read more

Downside: Historical Building doesn't have an elevator for ADA Guests; no hotel accommodations located on first floor/street level. 2. Restaurant Bar: Millenials' local hangout; bar is packed! 3. Cuisine: TAPAS--$8.00 to $12.00 for petite servings. A. Wait time: Fifteen minutes for First-Born Daughter receiving her three Tapas. B. Ten minutes later, I was wondering where is the steak and potatoes and when will it be served???? Never arrived . . . WTH~Male Waitstaff never annotated the steak and potatoes on the Restaurant Bill! C. First-Born Daughter had to hail another Male Waitstaff ordering the steak and potatoes, i.e., waited another ten minutes receiving the steak and potatoes: Egregiously disappointed not receiving the steak and potatoes tostada when First-Born Daughter received her three Tapas, the steak and potatoes' portion was shocking minuscule for a "tostada," and the steak and potatoes' presentation was obviously lacking--the steak and potatoes was plopped in the center on a black oval plate, less than a dollop of green chile verde salsa and two slivers of onion adjacent to the steak and potatoes! D. Chocolate Pie was served in a mini-flan ceramic dish; serving was just a miniscule as the steak and potatoes Tapas, I took a mini-spoonful, turned my nose up--ANNI MOGO, shoved the mini-flan ceramic dish to my First-Born Daughter who ate a couple of bites which she didn't finish: Strangely odd, the pie ingredients had chili mixed into the chocolate . . . The Jesse is my favorite place in town! The food is amazing, and we tried almost all of the tapas, and every single one is delicious. Everything tastes fresh! It's honestly hard to choose a favorite because they are all so good. And you definitely need to try the basil cocktail, "Aegean Garden" - it is incredibly delicious and one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time! My husband and I were our house shopping and decided to stop for the night. A quick Google search brought up the Jesse Hotel- it looked so cute and the bonus was the bar downstairs. We booked same day for a great price, had a smooth check in and found the place no problem. This place is SO cute, but old. You will hear the bar a little and some outside folks, but I would absolutely stay here again. So cute, comfy bed, convenient location- close enough but far enough away from down town. read more
