From start to finish, we were always helped and taken care of! Food 4.5/5 - I ordered the set course menu (+some starters!) and it was so worth it! I have been to Claio two times now, and both were great experiences! The first time, a few friends and I shared the Rotisserie chicken platter for a late lunch. The interior is very nice, very light and airy and it provides a great ambiance. The second time, my roommate and I went for our annual galentines dinner and it was even better, especially because everything was pink! Our sever, Brianna was really great! She was super friendly and helpful throughout the meal. We started with the Housemade Ricotta and toast and my. God. It was so delicious. Super light, the bread was perfectly toasted and the truffle honey is so yum. It's a great app. I'd like to try the roasted beets next time! For dinner, we had the Babette Steak w/ Crispy Schmaltz Potatoes and the Lamb Burger w/ Crispy Schmaltz Potatoes. FYI, the potatoes are always a good choice. My steak was delicious and cooked to my liking. I even ate the entire side salad! It paired well with the meal. My roomate also enjoyed the burger. She also had a lavender cocktail that was visually gorg and tasty. Now: dessert! Claio's soft serve is always fun, and they had a pistachio baklava version. The cold, creamy soft serve was paired with pistachio cream and buttered kataifi. Really yum, especially if you like pistachio. We also tried to sokolatopita chocolate cake. I was a little apprehensive because it is chocolate + orange, but I didn't taste the orange blossom and it was really delish. This review is mainly for the Easter brunch; their regular service is more of a 4ish/5. I hate penning this review, but I know the owners generally read 'em so I wanted to give a heads up. My understanding is that this is a special Easter brunch so basically there wasn't any process, so it felt like a buncha service folks kinda winging it and missing things even though the restaurant wasn't fully occupied with bookings. Food quality was mostly good per Perenn/Claio standards, 4ish/5 -- I think the only thing we were weirded out was that our scrambled eggs were served flat omelet style; the other foods (bacon, English breakfast, benedict were all done well). Vibes were also nice 5/5, the space and decor is def on point and inviting. The beverages were a big miss -- basically they had coffees and teas but the selection was kinda adhoc and they didn't have a readily available menu for them. Overall the service just felt pretty off -- it's a bummer and I wanna give a pass to the hardworking service workers working Easter, but overall the process was just kinda disorganized, we were waiting to order for half an hour even though the space was half full and it felt like a third of the people there were service staff. And the various parties walking in... were either deterred by the "special limited menu", which they either ran out misplaced by noon. (I overheard a family wanting to look at the kid's menu and then not finding it, and offered up our well-crayoned one just so they could see what options there were.) Overall I think Claio suffers from a bit of neglect with the owners expanding into Nashville, and there's just some process gaps that keep showing, especially for one-off events. There's a lot of good people who know their craft here, just needing a little more organization, and hopefully they'll be able to get their act together a bit more in the future. First time here in a very long time, and I did enjoy myself! Ambiance was a great vibe, and bar staff was friendly. We did have to sit at the bar because all reservations were full, but otherwise it was a great time. I do think the food is a bit on the pricey side for the portions, but it is a cool place for a date night or a little splurge. The staff was polite but they seemed to have a very indolent energy. Felt a bit off-putting and maybe even a bit entitled. We had to ask for menus after being seated for over 5 minutes with no service. We had to ask water for our toddler son, which was never offered. When he received his food, we had to request utensils for him. The waitress checked on us maybe twice the entire meal. First brunch at Claio since they stopped serving brunch on weekends. They now only offer it for special occasions, like Easter today. I was excited to have brunch here again! Highlights - The environment is calm and relaxing, well lit, and intimate, and the nice weather made outdoor seating a great option again. - Reservations got us seated right away. - New faces on staff, but service was smooth. - Food well prepared with some new menu options. - Great local, no fuss, but elegant, option! Lowlights - Ordered hot tea, and when it arrived, it was brewed but the teabag was still in the cup, with milk foam on top. Not my favorite preparation since removing the bag removes the foam. Or just let me handle the brewing and give me some fresh milk to add later. (They did provide a side of simple syrup for sweetening, which was perfect). - For a featured entree, I'd expect something a little more surprising or spectacular with the eggs benedict. It did have rotisserie ham, but honestly tasted pretty much like every well prepared benedict I've had. - The $35 "Full English" made me laugh. In the UK, this is the British free breakfast you get at any bed and breakfast. Obviously, the quantity and quality at Claio is high, especially of the sausage, but you're still just adding tomatoes and beans to a 2-egg breakfast. - The hot cross buns were a bit dry, no icing. Came back to Claio for a long-awaited dinner....and man was I CLUCKING disappointed especially considering my amazing brunch experiences both at Claio and Perenn. The only dish that I'd order again would be the Katalfi Prawns, which reminded me of the dim sum preparation of fried prawns wrapped in a light, flaky dough. The hamachi crudo was not fresh, and the sauce on top made the already fishy hamachi taste even more sour. The little neck clams were overwhelmingly salty and almost inedible, and their signature rotisserie chicken was dry and tough (although I'll give them points for the perfectly crispy chicken skin). The cocktails were pretty good, with my favorites being Earl's Got the T and Pom De Fleur, which I hope they keep on the menu! It was pretty easy to get a reservation the morning before dinner, although I would definitely recommend getting one since both this restaurant and the plaza it's in gets super busy. Overall, not sure if the chefs change between breakfast and dinner, but I hope they re-evaluate some of their menu since I really love this spot for brunch and would love to also make it a favorite dinner spot in Reno. read more

Claio has been one of my favorite spots in Reno--I'm forever disappointed that they don't do breakfast/brunch during the week but only on weekends. It's normally a five-star place for me; while I still enjoyed the experience this time, there were some things that were a little off in terms of their usual standards. It was way too cold inside, and the coffee drink I ordered (cortado) was way too hot and not made right (kind of overly blended, with no distinct foam separation on top). The interior was so cold that at the end of the meal, I ordered another coffee (also way too hot, but delicious once it cooled down) just to have something warm in my hands. The interior decor of Claio is consistently pretty exceptional, with cute and colorful tables, centerpieces, and light fixtures, and a nice vibey record player running an eclectic lo-fi mix. Seating inside and out is ample and comfortable, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The food is awesome--creative Mediterranean-inspired dishes and sumptuous bakery options (from Perenn Bakery, their sister company). One of our favorite pastries is the mochi muffin (unfortunately not in stock today). The green shakshuka--which is a very creative and tasty dish--today was a bit heavy-handed with the spice, and the Israeli bagel that came with it (which is normally awesome), was a bit stiff/stale-ish. It was still good, but just didn't match my expectations compared to previous visits. All that said, I really appreciate the unique recipes and healthful, high-quality ingredients they have at Claio and look forward to coming back for brunch again . . . if only that could be during the week and not just on weekends :D. read more

My husband's friend ordered us dinner from Claio's "to go" the Family Chicken dinner which my husband picked up from the restaurant. My husband ordered beer while they boxed up the food. My husband decided to pay the tip even though his friend included the tip. I think the staff could have notified my husband. This was the first time trying the food. The chicken was whole and seasoning was lovely. I absolutely loved the Crispy Schmaltz Potatoes. I wasn't sure about the sauce that came with it on the side. The salad was abundant and truly not my favorite "too many weeds" for me. The baguette was awesome, and the butter paired perfectly. I love Perenn and had high expectations for this place - and YES they did deliver From the good vibes once you walk in, to delicious cocktails and dinner items! Due to it being our first time we were unsure what to expect, so we did make a dinner reservation. They weren't completely packed so I'm sure we could have done a walk in. Service was good, you do have your own server, but all staff seemed they were willing to help if we asked for anything. We ordered some apps - bread + ricotta (yum) and fried halloumi (flavor was good, the cheese definitely has a rubber texture so if you like that, you'll like this!) All, I can say is WOW. My daughter requested Claio's for her 20th birthday dinner and told me I would love it. She was, as always, right. We started with the Rancho Gordo Chickpea hummus. Just look at the picture and tell me you can't taste the deliciousness emphasized by pickled herbs and a grapefruit vinaigrette. I could have eaten it with a spoon, but the provided pita chips were crunchy and held up well to big dips. We tried three entrees all of which were delicious. The Crispy Octopus with English pea pistou was indeed crispy and delectable with the taste of peas, garlic and basil. The Lamb Burger with Crispy Schmaltz Potatoes was on a soft brioche bun and included pickled onions, cheddar, garlic sauce and mint. That mint addition made me dream of classic Mediterranean dishes. The potatoes were crispy perfection. The Seared Scallops were cooked to a melt-in-your-mouth level and the fennel, green apple and watercress flavors complimented them perfectly. We, of course, had to get desserts for the birthday girl and an espresso and cappuccino to go with it. Pistachio Baklava Soft Serve was a balance of creamy, sweet and crunchy. The Loukoumades were OMG sticky, honey, light perfection. And the Rosewater Cheesecake had that subtle rose flavor with a crunch of pistachios, kataifi and honey drizzle. This is one of my fav go-to restaurants. I love the vibe and atmosphere here - kind of like Chip and Joanna Gaines meets vintage LA interior home design. The menu here rotates but some dishes stay on longer than others - like the sweet potato and labneh, one of the best in town! Which is funny because the restaurant next door to them does a great sweet potato dish as well...do I hear a potential competition down the road anyone? I also had the mussels which were really good on top of the best bread with garlic butter. I am little jaded though because they used to make it with clams and I think that combo worked better imo. Tucked away in the Mayberry shopping area is Claio. Parking can be challenging since it's a small parking lot but the inside of the restaurant is super cute! Think pinks and gold! A gals dream! Came here for brunch and got loukoumades, kachapurri, tomato + cucumber salad, and green shakshuka. The loukomades were so light and delicious! They aren't overly sweet considering they're donuts, and one order was enough to share for the whole table. I had my heart set on Turkish eggs but they are no longer on the menu, so we tried a variety of other dishes. The kachapurri is not what I was expecting and it was kind of hard to eat because of the phyllo crust but it was perfectly cooked and tasty. All the food was fresh and flavorful. The servers were all kind and accommodating, adding to the relaxed vibes. It's a great spot to hang out and the inside is beautifully decorated. The food is rather expensive for the portion and for what it is, but part of what you're paying for is the restaurant experience, and they did deliver on that front. Honestly the food here is incredible. They're an extension of the Perenn group, and they have a lot of similar items. We went for brunch, and had a nice meal. The atmosphere is very chic and nice. Reminds me of a cafe in London or Europe. The service suffered tremendously. I would assume they were understaffed but they had 2 employees on the floor the entire time for the entire restaurant. One lady made coffees and ran the host booth, while the other basically served and bussed the rest of the restaurant. With 5 or 6 tables of 3-6 people, that's a nightmare. It made our meal, ordering, coffee's, everything turn into almost a 2+ hour brunch. The servers had positive attitudes but they were stressed, apologizing, and spread thin. When you're paying Napa prices ($40+ pp) in Reno NV for a nice brunch meal, the service standard should match the price of the food like other cities in my opinion. read more

We were a bit skeptical about Claio but once we started eating we were actually blown away with each dish! We started off with the whipped ricotta and roasted beets. The whipped ricotta was super creamy and flavorful that paired so well with the bread, the nuts and honey brought it all together! The beets were super soft and just so good! Wish we had ordered more! For entree we shared the bavette steak with crispy potatoes. The potatoes are super crispy and flavorful, it wasn't salty and it had oregano and a good garlic sauce. The steak was a bit in the small side but it was cooked perfectly, super tender and well seasoned! The octopus with gigante beans was flavorful and so soft. Loved it and we could not stop raving about it. For dessert we got the fennel seed soft serve and it was perfect. Not too sweet and it tasted like licorice. If you love Perenn Bakery, you have to try Claio. Owned by the same owners of Perenn, Aubrey and Tyler. The restaurant is small but cozy, decorated similar as Perenn. Every employee we encountered was so sweet. And the bathroom is perfect for a photo op. We came here for date night. To start we ordered the house-made ricotta and bread, I couldn't get enough of the of the truffle honey. Hoping they sell it at Perenn grocery. For drinks I ordered the claio spritz and my bf got the NA minty limeade, both refreshing and delicious. For entrees, we got the bavette steak + crispy shmaltz potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and I really enjoyed the garlic sauce it was paired with. We also had to order the organic 1/4 rotisserie chicken, it was a little dry but seasoned nicely. But the real star of the show was the pistachio baklava soft serve! Pistachio rose ganache, golden kataifi and honey syrup with soft serve ice cream, wow! Despite that, it is a smaller space and some of the tables are very close to one another (less than an arm's reach away). But they have beautiful outdoor seating as well. Their dishes are mainly Mediterranean, with an American twist. But they do change their menu often. However one of the dishes that seems to stay is the lamb burger. For some reason, this has a wonderful shawarma taste for me, but in burger form. The meat is juicy and the pickled onions were a nice touch. But my favorite part on their menu are the desserts, which also seem to have a permanent spot on the menu. The sweets all have a unique twist, but are all delectable. The pistachio baklava soft serve is a crowd favorite, but the fennel pollen soft serve is less sweet, which fits my preference better. Their sokolatopita chocolate cake is moist and thick, but the orange blossom is super subtle. This has quickly become one of my favorite places for a brunch or an intimate evening. I took my sister here for her birthday, and while we're both vegetarians, there were ample options for as (at a rotisserie!). My favorite was the fried halloumi, but everything we ate was delicious. Another time my we rode our bikes here, and on our way it began storming with heavy rain. When we arrived to Claio the power was out and they were waiting for it to be restored. They allowed us to sit and wait and we were offered water, wine and pastries! The candles made for a really cozy ambience. The staff are great, the food is great, and the decor is really cute. Claio consistently delivers on delicious food and drinks. Finding unique flavors in Reno is tough sometimes, but they never disappoint in that regard. Of course love the interior design and vibe as well. I do find them overpriced which is why we probably only go once a year. I was disappointed when they took away the "tips included" rule a while ago, proceeded to not include the tips, and then also didn't lower their prices. I understand restaurants have to increase prices gradually over time but I think that was a sketchy way to go about it (just my opinion). When we were there, they were also out of many of the dishes and it was only 6:30, which took away from the experience considering their menu is fairly limited already (and hasn't changed much since our visit last year). What's not to love?! This is my favorite stop to unwind, for lunch, dinner or dessert. The service is incredible. If you like ribs, theirs with the lemon, dill potato salad is out of this world. Every dish I've tried has surpassed expectation! read more

Perhaps this was a case of too-high expectations (I'm a huge fan of Perenn, their "sister restaurant"), but Claio was a disappointment. The food: our appetizers were beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. 5 stars. The pita bread wasn't to my liking, but everyone else at my table loved it. The entrees fell short. Ribs were dry and bland. Scallops were rubbery. I don't know if it was due to bad scallops, overcooking, or sitting too long between being cooked and served, but if I'm paying $38 for five scallops, they should be at least as good as Costco scallops cooked on my cheap electric stove at home. The service: the server was charming and gave the appearance of excellent service, but the execution was bad. My main grievance: the server preemptively asked if anyone had allergies (we did) and reported that what we had ordered would be fine. Great! But when the food was delivered, we were suspicious about one of the sauces. When we flagged down our server to inquire, they said that it did contain the allergen we had mentioned and the allergic diner shouldn't eat it! The ambiance: I very much like the look of the restaurant, but the music was significantly louder than I like (I prefer to use my "quiet voice" at the dinner table), and the music itself wasnt to my liking. But I am an old curmudgeon, so if you are young and hip you may feel very differently. I will probably be back someday, and I suspect as I learn to make better menu choices (and perhaps sit further from the speakers), I will have a more enjoyable time. read more

I wanted to love this place since I love its sister business Perenn. We ordered the family chicken rotisserie dinner that came with entire roasted chicken, rosemary potatoes, salad, entire baguette with fresh salted butter and dessert. Total cost $70 which is a lot of money but enough food that it will give us leftovers. Unfortunately the salad was extremely oily, and the wonderful looking chicken was TOUGH beyond words. Practically inedible it was that tough. Potatoes and a Dijonaise sauce were good but I wouldn't say fabulous. Bread and butter was nice. We picked up to eat at home and from pickup to table was less then 10 min. Packaged well but overall a disappointment. Won't be eating here again. Was also surprised that the inside of restaurant was extremely casual with hard seating. Expected a nicer ambiance - music was playing quite loud inside and certainly wouldn't make for a nicer quiet dinner which is what I would expect with the prices they charge.
