Note to self - Come for HH only... 3.5 stars rounded up. Quality/Quantity - I see that all my HH experiences are 5 stars. Unfortunately for them and I, our main dining experiences are NOT 5 stars. Today we got the following: Complimentary Starter = Good. Shrimp ceviche. Complimentary Bread = Winner, we all loved the bread and had seconds! More bread than I usually eat when dining out. Sea Bass - 3-4 stars. My wife said she would have liked a little more lobster in her dish. Decent portions. Filet Mignon - Our guest barely ate half of her dish. She usually does NOT order steak?!?! She usually orders fish. But she said it was cooked well to her medium request. Pork Chop - Over cooked. Sub baked potato for $3.50 more. The baked potatoes were small, so they gave two. And baked potatoes were also over-baked. See pictures. Elk Chop - My buddy recommended that I try this. I was thinking between this or my usual ribeye or prime rib. The waiter also said to go for it. Sorry, I regret getting this. My dish was over cooked also. The waiter recommended rare, I asked for Medium rare but I think it came medium... Decent portions, but was not able to finish all my veggies. Lastly, my other buddy got the salmon which was also over cooked. And so small of a portion. Sorry, I got distracted and forgot to take a picture. Complimentary cotton candy for 6 to share?!?! Maybe give us two next time...? Complimentary desserts to-go, which was a perfect pairing to my morning coffee cup. No one had room for dessert. I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon to wash my dinner down. Ambiance - Nice restaurant in the Atlantis Casino Resort. I just noticed a private room surrounded with wine bottles. Next time I will see if we can request that room. Open kitchen. Plenty of casino parking. Service - The bus boy was good. The waiter was okay. Both today and yesterday, I feel that I receive a little attitude when I don't spend enough $$. I came here to celebrate my birthday and I wish the experience was better. There were a few issues with the main dishes that we ordered. The Kansas City Ribeye: I had split this plate with my husband and the server said that he'll have them precut the meat before serving. Big mistake. We saw our steak was sitting under the heat lamp for maybe 10-15 mins before it came to our table and once it arrived it came out really dry and tough to chew because the juices seeped out while under the lamp. The Steak & Frites: This dish was for my daughter and I had ordered it medium so that it wouldn't be too red for her. It came out medium rare so she couldn't really eat it. The Burger (To-Go): So we wanted to order the burger to-go for a friend of ours and I'm not sure why the server had put in the order the same time as our dine in-order because usually the server would put in the to-go order ticket before we would we be finished and have it ready by the time we pay. Our server told us that the to-go order was ready and under the heat lamp to keep warm until we were done with our food. That's atleast 30mins waiting under the heat lamp. When we gave the burger to our friend, he said the burger was really dried out. The only things we did enjoy was the calamari and the jumbo crab chowder. It was really such a disappointment because you pay so much money to dine here and you would think the food would be worth the money you pay for. Unfortunately that wasn't the case for me. The most popular happy hour in town continues its streak by offering upscale food and cocktails at a reasonable price. I was a big fan of the wild mushroom pizza, the earthy goodness of the mushrooms on melted cheese is a winner for me every time. The calamari was perfectly crisp and chewy, and the sauce they serve with it is heavenly. We ordered a round (or two) of specialty cocktails to try: - Lavender Lemonade Martini - this was my favorite, perfect balance of sweet and tart. - Cotton Candy Martini - this was the prettiest and most fun to experience as it's served with a side of actual cotton candy that you stir into the drink. I had heard that Napa Bistro had a good happy hour, but it wasn't until I finally went that I understood why people raved about it. We went on a Friday so it was busy from he get go and we had to wait about and hour for the first wave to start heading out. In the meantime we went to the bar and ordered drink and my experience started string here. I ordered a Samurai Sour and this is now one of my favorite drinks. There was four of us so when we were seated we decided to go a little crazy and ordered a ton of different things. You can see everything I ordered in my pictures but want to callout my top dishes, which is hard because everything was so good! But if I had to choose some as my fave for sure the Asian Ribs, Sliders, and Oysters were up there. The service was great. The bartender and servers were all great and made sure they would clean out used dishes to make room for all the food that came coming. And of course I ordered a couple more Samurai Sours. My hubby and I returned to celebrate his birthday and Valentine's for dinner. Great service again! Our server actually recognized us from our last visit which was about a year ago! He was super polite and always great about checking on us throughout our meal. Bummed, but understandable being the day after Valentines, that they had run out of several menu items like their sea bass (my favorite), eggplant dish, and oysters. Also another observation and a little disappointing is that they haven't updated or changed their main menu from a year ago. Enjoyed the prime rib, mushroom flatbread, calamari, and seared tuna. My BF took me here for their happy hour, which runs from 4-6 PM and includes 50% off their menu! We ordered 7 dishes and 4 cocktails, which came out to only a little over $100 (originally a $200+ meal). Every dish was meticulously prepared from high quality ingredients, although some were a bit too savory for my personal liking, with my favorites being the ravioli and steamed clams. The cocktails were VERY well crafted, and we really appreciated how our very friendly and personable waiter gave us great recommendations that were very tailored to our personal preferences. Came in excited to try the prix fixe special for Reno Food Week. Pictures show what was advertised vs what we received. We left fairly disappointed. First course of Scottish eggs: eggs were cooked unevenly, some parts medium boiled and some extra hard. Heavy on the side salad dressing. Second course: duck breast was heavily overcooked, resulting in a high iron taste resembling chicken liver. Meat was very tough. Sauce for duck was extremely sweet. Side salad was heavily under seasoned. Third course: desert samplers. These were okay. I'd say it prioritized sweetness over quality. The samplers remind me of the kind of deserts you'd see at a lower-end buffet. Server was nice but very slow to take our order, despite the lack of a crowd. Restaurant comped part of our meal since the duck was unacceptable. While they handled the matter professionally, this shouldn't have been on the menu in the first place. This is THE spot for an excellent Happy Hour in Reno. Located on the 2nd story of the Atlantis Casino in downtown. It opens at 4:00pm M-Thurs. We went early (3:15pm) this past Wednesday and I brought a chair. Everything on the menu was half price. My recommendations include the sexy fries, BBQ Korean style ribs and grilled artichokes. Bistro Napa is always such a joy to visit. And remains one of our favorite restaurants to frequent. Our server was wonderful, polite and attentive for our entire visit. The restaurant itself was pleasant and clean with comfortable cushioned chairs. I had the chef's special flatbread, tuna and a half order of oysters. Everything came out very fast and fresh. The chef's special flatbread was a Philly cheese steak type. It was honestly just okay. We've had their other flatbreads and they are very good so I am basing my opinion off of that. The ahi tuna was the perfect temperature and had a perfect crust. As for the oysters... amazing as usual! The four sauces that come with them as well as a mini bottle of tobacco are my favorite part. Social hour at Easter Napa is becoming a family tradition! We love the thrill of a hunt for a table and the great food and drink and service that follows when we snag one! Truth is my parents who live in Florida really love coming here when they visit and it really is a treat to watch the kids enjoy all of the delicious food in front of them. This has become a very special place for us and we have Sherwin to thanks for that. On the food side, we can't go without the Asian glaze ribs, fried calamari, woodfired artichoke hearts, and of course, the signature sexy fries. This time through though we had to sample some new items, including the butternut squash, ravioli, and the octopus and shrimp ceviche, both of which were wonderful additions to our array. When it comes to the drinks, you can't beat their selection of wine by the glass, which, of course they pour heavy, and I like to enjoy a classic cock cocktail like a Manhattan or an old-fashioned, which they also do really well. We got the meeting room in the restaurant as we had a business gathering so there was nine of us. We arrived and they were incredibly friendly and professional. They made us feel very special as the table was already set beautifully. They brought out little complementary appetizers to begin. They also were extremely understanding of my extreme dairy allergy which I find challenging and embarrassing. They handled it with grace and definitely took care of me amongst the group. We had a great experience at Bistro Napa. The ambience is beautiful and feels upscale but still comfortable and relaxed. The service was excellent from the moment we sat down. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, and the pacing of the meal was just right. We started with the skinny fries and the five cheese lobster mac. The lobster mac was rich, creamy, and indulgent without being too heavy. For dinner, we ordered the blackened Wild Pacific prawns, the Dungeness crab ravioli with pea tendrils, caviar, and beurre blanc, and the Bistro Cioppino. Every dish was full of flavor, but the cioppino truly stood out. It was packed with fresh fish, king crab, clams, shrimp, and scallops in a spicy tomato saffron broth that was comforting and delicious. Forever impressed with bartender west, he created an empress gin gimlet cocktail that was to perfection upon giving him craft freedom. He is phenomenal and attentive and a good jokester if you have a couple dad jokes in your arsenal to fire back. The food was delectable, the oysters juicy and buttery and to die for (although I haven't had oysters in a year and a half since pregnancy and breast feeding). This was such a nice treat! Also shout out to Greg who made our experience extra enjoyable by offering not only service but also playful banter, what a guy and a joy. Tonight was a tiki theme, featuring cocktails from Planteray Rum as the food pairings. We go to the Atlantis a lot but we haven't been to Bistro Napa for a while. We were able to get a table on Monday and had a wonderful meal. My mom and I both had the bacon-wrapped scallops and it was an incredible dish. The scallops were cooked perfectly as was the bacon. They were served on a bed of "Potato hash" which is really smashed Yukon-gold potatoes, and included some delicious artichokes. The menu said there was truffle but I just expected some truffle oil like most places, but there were actually a lot of black truffles on the scallops. A nice surprise! They have some nice desserts on the menu but they give you a big bowl of cotton candy at the finish plus some banana bread to take home, so we didn't get the desserts. We did have some perfectly made Americanos though. Eddie was our server and he did an amazing job taking care of us. One of the things I haven't liked about this place in the past is that it is kind of dark. This time it seemed brighter in there, maybe because it was early evening and still bright out. But it is nice and elegant and a great atmosphere. One thing I'm not sure about is the drink menu - which is now on iPads. While it is interesting to read more about the wines, it's kind of a pain to use it, especially just for wines by the glass. I'd probably rather have a printed list. read more

Often a place for a nice night out or celebrating a special occasion. On this night, it was the latter for us, celebrating my wife's birthday with a few friends. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. The staff, whether it is the busboys or wait staff, are helpful and welcoming. Always ready to assist. We started our evening wtih some appetizers. Since the mains are generous in portion, we opted to order only the Calamari and Crab Cakes for starters. The Crab Cakes were solid. Prepared well with a rich taste of crab and served with a delicious, creamy sauce. The star of the first service, however, was the Calamari. This had to be the best Calamari I have ever had. The pieces were meaty, yet tender. The breading was crunchy, not doughy. The pieces were like chicken tenders in size as opposed to the the normal "ringlets" you often see. A true hit around the table. For the mains, there was a variety of both land as well as seafood based proteins. 3 of our guests, including my wife, opted for the Short Ribs. A solid choice served with a generous portion of Short Rib, served on a bed of potatoes and accompanied with some root vegetables. While a perrenial choice amongst guests, tonight the Short Rib was a little dry. Perhaps the result of the particular cut of beef. When accompanied with the delicious sauce, the meal was still delicious, yet with an asterick preventing perfection. Another guest opted for the Cioppino. Wearing a beautiful white blouse, this was a bold selection. :-) Our friend asked that the plate be "pre-shelled" otherwise the seafood is served shelled. The seafood was delicious and the broth was cooked to perfection. Yes, no harm befell our friends blouse. The final two dishes were the Shrimp with Crab Ravioli and Bacon Wrapped Scallops. First the Shrimp. My friend enjoyed the blend of flavors brought by the shrimp and crab filled ravioli. Served with Pea Tendrils and Tsar Nicolai Caviar, then accompanied by Beurre Blanc cream sauce. It was the perfect blend of flavors. On this night, I chose the Scallops. A dish I enjoy yet don't order nearly enough. The dish was served with 4 very large scallops, grilled to perfection and wrapped with the most delicious, yet sweet bacon. The tenderness of the scallops, with just a touch of char from the grill, complemented by the robust flavor of the bacon, with just a hint of sweetness was truly glorious. I opted for sauteed spinach, where as the dish is normally served with artichoke as the vegetable. The dish is served on a bed of Yukon Gold Potato Hash and complimented with a creamy Truffle-Chive Beurre Blanc sauce. We finished the evening with a solid round of desserts. My wife received the Strawberry Shortbread and the Cotton Candy, as a gift from the restaurant to celebrate her birthday. We ordered the Bistro Banana Split served with Bruléed Bananas, Housemade Cinnamon Ice Cream, Caramel Corn, Fresh Berries, topped with a Caramel Sauce. We also ordered the Apple Crumble Cake, a dish prepared with Almond Crunch, accompanied with both a Caramel Sauce and Chocolate Ganache, topped with a Puff Pastry Tuile. Based on how clean the plate was afterward, I would say this was a hit. I ordered the Creme Brulee. I'm a bit of a Creme Brulee connoisseur. Another solid delivery, the dish was flavorful, creamy with the right amount of sweetness from the sugar crust. Oh, I almost forgot, we also ordered the New York Style Cheesecake. This is one of the best Cheesecakes you can have, outside of Manhattan. You can also find the Cheesecake at the Manhattan Deli, adjacent to the casino floor if you are looking just for dessert.
