I have been coming to Blackrock Winery, since they first opened by coming to a girls New Years eve champagne tasting. I feel in love with the aesthetics and vibe of the establishment, friendliness of the staff and owners and just overall great time. We had so much fun that our group came a second year during the big blizzard and I remember enjoying the variety of champagnes from all over the world plus the charterie boards available. I haven't seen a friend in a long time and suggested some places and Blackrock was her choice. We came on a late Friday afternoon and we were one of a few tables. The owner was very friendly and attentive. I was excited to see the menu options and the wide variety of spritz highlighted on the board. I settled with one of the spritzs and ordered Le Couchon which consisted of ham, caramelized onion jam and balsamic drizzle as well as a chicken pesto empanada type of bite. Everything was wonderful and boy by the time we finished up the business was booming. We were bummed to not be able to enjoy the outside scenery due to the rain but just another reason to come back. My friend stated she does her dry cleaning at the center but had no idea. Also, from the past I saw people ordered boxes of pizza from Smiling with hope, so win win with great drinks, small bites available and having options to bring outside food in as well. My husband and I tried Black rock wine for the first time last Thursday evening and we loved everything about it! We've frequented many of the shops near here and drive by it often living so close and we're so happy to have this wine shop with a unique selection of great wine & wonderful outdoor seating with open air bar in the warm months. We both had a glass of rosé, and I had a spritzer for my second glass option, which was a wonderful unique blend of summer flavors and very refreshing. They have some great appetizer selections as well and even had live music this evening that added to the experience. The owner or manager and staff were friendly behind the bar and welcoming. The only hard part was ordering the wine or getting served this day as they were very busy and just knowing where to go to place the orders or where it was best to not be in the way. That part could've ran a bit smoother .. but on a crowded night, we understood. Will be back for more date nights and outings, and can't wait to try more of their wines or a tasting. We particularly liked the sunday special option that was listed as a two for one type tasting option with an appetizer I believe - what a great way to 'wine down' the weekend. read more

What a great find! Blackrock Wine has surely made my list of go-to spots in central Reno. Located in a shopping center off of Lakeside and Mccarren, Blackrock Wine has a great selection of by the glass, by the bottle, and to-go wines. The selection is unique and well priced. The decor is beautiful and the wine is well presented. They also have some beer options and canned cocktails for non-wine drinkers. My only complaint of our visit is that we ordered the duck rillete from the amazing food options. Unfortunately, about 10 minutes after we ordered, we were informed they were out of duck. We ended up having the smoked salmon board which was presented gorgeously and was delicious. I will certainly be back at Blackrock for wine and delicious bites sometime soon. Cute and cozy but also offers outdoor seating! We went there on a Saturday afternoon right when they opened so they weren't busy but by the time we left they were really picking up. That's nice to see so hopefully they will be around for a long time. You can get certain wines by the glass or buy a bottle and enjoy! They also offer a few drafts as well as canned cocktails. Been looking for a new wine bar to try out and, as usual, we headed over to Yelp to see where to go and we are so happy we came here. The wine selection is different, not the standard, big winery choices so many others seem to gravitate towards. The selections in both the Red wine and White wine category was global. While my first glass wasn't my favorite, the second one was. My wife, as always, got two really good glasses. The atmosphere was bright and cheery as well which is a nice contrast to a few other places in town. To top it off, the owner couple were really great to talk to and very welcoming. Wanted to taste some wines during my visit from California. Blackrock was recommended and my sister who lives in Reno has seen this place and wanted to try it. We didn't make any reservations and decided to take our chances walking in. We got there on a Saturday around 4:15 and there were plenty of open tables. It took a bit for someone to acknowledge us and when someone finally did, I stated that we were interested in a flight. The only one they had available was a flight of French reds. It was 3 pours for $13. All 3 came out at once with a little strip of paper showing which one was which. We weren't offered any information about the wines, the food, the menu or anything. There is a food menu but we were headed to dinner afterwards so we skipped it but the charcuterie boards looked amazing! They also offer some small bites. We were checked in with once inquiring if we wanted to eat anything. Other than that no one came over to see how we were doing, asked how we liked anything or to see if we were interest in any glasses of anything. I had to walk up to close out so we could make dinner. Normally I would understand if it were busy but it really wasn't and there were two people working. The wines were just okay, but not good enough to recommend or purchase a bottle. The food looked appetizing but there wasn't anything about this visit that made me want to return. read more

Went here for a Ladies Night Out .. each of us enjoyed a Flight of that weeks featured wines. Most were pretty good. Also ordered most of the appetizers they have to offer. I think the Charcuterie Board was the best. The next time we'll order the Charcuterie with meats and pass on the others. Don't get me wrong the others were good too. Very broad wine selection. Featured wine of the week. And they are planning on having outdoor music. They are located next to where Simon's was and is now going to be a Big Horn (same as Big Horn on 7th Street) and they will share the outdoor space and music. I like this place. I visited Blackrock the first time in January and it was quiet for a Saturday night. We shared a flight of reds at a tall table then each enjoyed a glass. I saw that dogs were allowed inside which was okay by me since there were only a couple people inside. The man running the bar was very friendly and knowledgeable with the wines he poured. I guess he and his fiancé own and run the show. I recently went back for a second time last Friday. They had live music which was super cool and catchy, it was pretty packed. Us three girls sat at the bar and had superb service. I love the wine varietals and range of options they have to choose from on the blackboard as well as in the shop to purchase by the bottle. Oops, did we close the bar ? Wanting a night out with friends, this was actually my backup. It turned out to be a fabulous spot. This fairly new wine bar is located to the right of Simon's in a strip mall. Plenty of parking. A large patio that I can't wait to sip on next summer. Several seating choices inside. Plus..........a large selection of reds on display and a huge walk in fridge for whites and bubbles. Not a wine drinker? Why not ? Are you crazy? If not, there are two large coolers with canned and bottled beer selections. The snack menu offers a nice nibble selection. Pâté, cheese board, charcuterie, salmon and some dipped to enjoy with your wine. I didn't notice any background noice. Once we were sipping and talking, it felt like we were the only ones there. But all the tables were full. I thought the red choices were pretty good and varied. I was surprised to see a couple from the Languedoc area of France, a Greek wine and many Italians. Also present were several familiar Californians. The prices were great !! Check all around the bar before making a decision. Kind of a bummer posting this. Start off by saying Blackrock is a great neighborhood wine bar. Good selection, always something new and the small plates pair with the wine perfectly. That being said the landlord recently posted no dog signs across the property. Shame as there is a perfect patio for dogs, which we've enjoyed. Told it was due to a dog fight between other businesses but Blackrock and neighbor are taking the hit. Blackrock Wine Co might be tucked away in a residential strip mall, but don't let the location fool you--this place is great. The space is small-ish but bright, clean and relaxed. They have a large wine menu, as well as beers, and a bunch of appetizers. We got a few glasses of wine and 3 appetizers: goat cheese with oil, pintxos and a salmon plate. I felt like everything was done really well and all were a great pairing for the wine. I had never had pintxos but my friend had studied abroad in Spain and she vouched they were good and I now agree! The saltiness paired with the peppers and bread is a great combo. After checking out the bites online, we were both a little worried that our, not working today, shorts and t-shirts wouldn't cut it here. Crostini which has toasted baguette, creamy goat cheese, roasted grapes, balsamic reduction, rosemary, sea salt that comes with 4 pieces 10/10, sweet and salty perfect mix. It was a rough week at work so my colleague and I gathered for an early happy hour. When I arrived the place was pretty busy and got progressively crowded as the night went on - a good sign! They have wines by the glass, many bottles to choose from, a small list of appetizers to tide you over, and about 4 high tops, a long bar, and a few community tables to sit at. That's about all. The bar tender was friendly but brief as you could tell he was tending to his regulars. I am a frequent flyer at whispering vines, and the selection is much greater there (plus I love their flights program which isn't offered here, or at least wasn't on the night I was in), but this was still a nice little spot to grab a bottle of wine to share with a friend.
