My girlfriends and I were so excited to celebrate a birthday at Bricks. All but one of us had been here before, having great experience excited to share a rare Saturday night out away from our families together. Our server was lovely, newer, but kind with a great sense of humor. The food was good. The salmon and red wine reduction was a very strange combo, skip it. The ambience was nostalgic of fine dining in days past with worn but comfortable seating and pleasant atmosphere. Although, having been too many fun dining establishments, the buses need some training. As they reached across us over us and around us to clear plates and serve. Sadly, the night was abruptly ended as the manager came over. And told us we had to leave because he had another table to seat at ours. There are many ways a manager could do this, and yes, we have been there for a little over two hours, enjoying our time, the service was slow, in a way that encouraged taking your time...a fine dining experience, which generally you would think would be unrushed. We ordered drinks, salad, salads, mains, dessert for 4... No split meals, no split tabs. One credit card and a generous tip. We had already paid the bill and were getting ready to go within the next few minutes because we all needed to be home before 8. The manager came over was extremely unkind and rude in his tone and request. He told me, without provocation, didn't care if we gave him a bad review. And two hours was long enough for dinner. We all walked out in silence, aghast at his terrible manners and words. All that to say, diner beware. This man undid a wonderful evening with a few sharp words and extremely awful service and poor manners. Realizing that had he said it nicely, we would've popped right up. We were already ready to go. And that treating your customers -who just spent a few hundred dollars with you - with respect and warmth versus treating them with contempt and rudeness. We will not be back. Bricks is a mainstay in Reno for good reason, they serve high quality and delicious food with yummy twists. The baked mushroom caps were just as cheesy, gooey, decadent with the perfect blue cheese notes to add flavor interest as I remember them from last time we came. Use the bread to dip and clean out the whole bowl! I do wish the bread was higher quality, was a little sad and crusty. The veal picatta was exceptional, super thin veal that was so juicy and flavorful and tender, I don't know how they did it! The caper sauce with the tangy sun dried tomatoes was a hit. The halibut was also super tasty and in a fun twist in an Asian style sauce with perfectly cooked pasta, a light sweet coconut broth I wanted to spoon up! There were 4 of us and dinner was like 600.00 with a few drinks each, a couple appetizers, and our meals. Adding we did not get the most expensive Items on the menu. Truly- not worth it in my opinion. Nothing against this place. I just don't think it is worth the money. First time at Bricks for a small company Christmas party and it was awesome!! I loved the old school vibe and feel of the restaurant! Service was good, maybe a touch slow but the restaurant was super busy and we all enjoyed socializing and chatting in between courses. We ordered crab cakes and Caesar salad for everyone at the table and both appetizers were delicious. Caesar dressing was zesty and a little creamy , crab cakes were really good too. 3 of us ordered filet mignon with mashed potatoes, I thought the filet dinner was excellent , cooked and seasoned perfectly mashed taters were creamy and delicious , a great meal across the board. I also enjoyed a couple whiskey sours with my meal and for dessert we had the baked alaska coffee ice cream cake. We celebrated my birthday at Brock's on a Wednesday The place was hopping-bar looked to be busy and the Dining room was full. Joy was our server and she was a delight! My SIL had called ahead to pay for a bottle of wine for us. The message was conveyed and taken care of seamlessly. I always love Bricks and it is a favorite for any celebration. In my all my 28+ years living in Reno, how have I not been here before? Last minute reservations on a Saturday night led to an amazing dinner at Bricks. My party was seated right away upon arriving. We were all hungry so we ordered main entrees without appetizers. We had the shrimp scampi, seafood thermidor, filet mignon and macadamia crusted sea bass. Although it took some time for the dishes to come out, it was well worth the wait. All the plates came out hot and based on my party's reaction, everyone enjoyed their food. Large portions and everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I had the seafood thermidor and highly recommend it if you like seafood. We ended our meal with the baked Alaska and crème brûlée for dessert and both were delicious and not overly sweet. Delicious!! Decided to come here for date night and we got right in. It is a pretty big restaurant with lots of seatings. Service was great. Our waitress was extremely nice. The food was so so good. I got the king salmon and was asked how I like it cooked. I've never been asked that before so I said medium and my god it was the most delicious salmon I've ever had. We had a lovely dinner celebrating a friend's birthday on a busy Saturday night. I had a special that was offered on this particular night...John Dory fish with a lemon butter caper sauce, served with veggies and rice. I substituted whipped potatoes to replace the rice. The whole dish was very delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly highlighting the buttery, light and tender flavored fish. Potatoes and veggies were excellent too. I would happily order this again. My hubby ordered the mushroom raviolis and he devoured them. He loved them. The restaurant was a bit loud due to a party of about 10-12 guests who were extremely vocal. Felt bad for the date night couples and small parties near that table who had to bear their noisy presence. We had a half wall separating us and even our conversations were greatly affected by their volume. Of course large groups can have a grand time, but it's unfortunate how one group of diners can affect the ambiance of an entire restaurant. We've been wanting to come try Bricks for a while now, so we came recently for our anniversary dinner! It is located in Midtown and there's a large parking lot behind the building. The inside feels like you are walking into someone's home as there are multiple different dining areas that feel like rooms in a house. It was a welcoming yet intimate atmosphere and felt like a nice setting for a date night. Service was fairly slow while we were here, but I'm going to say it's because there were two large parties dining in the same room as us. It was also a Saturday night, so I'm sure they got pretty busy. We shared a bottle of Syrah which was nice to have while we dined since we were here for almost two hours. We started with the baked mushroom caps based on raving reviews I read on those. They totally lived up to the hype! Very rich and flavorful. The dish came with 5 but I could've had so many more, they were delicious! My husband got the veal and I got the scallop risotto. Both were fantastic! My husband loved the butter and caper sauce that the veal was served in. The pieces of veal were a good size and came with pasta. My risotto was so creamy and cheesy. The scallops were wild mushroom crusted which made them extra tasty! They had almost a blackened flavor to them. We went with the baked Alaska for dessert which you cannot pass up. It came as an almond crust topped with coffee amaretto ice cream and toasted meringue. What a unique combination of flavors that you don't usually see in desserts! My husband doesn't drink coffee and he even liked the flavor of this dessert. The coffee and almond balanced each other well and neither was too strong. The crust was a bit harder than it should have been, it was hard to cut it with a fork. Overall, still a very yummy way to finish the meal. We were really impressed with the food here, it seems like a Reno staple and we plan to bring family/friends here in the future when they are visiting. As a former chef and a gluten free person, this is my new pick for fine dining. I've been here a couple of times now and realize it is consistently one of the best - if not THE best - restaurants in town. Every course was a delight; the service was friendly and attentive; the ambiance reads 'updated classic.' They had abalone on special, lightly breaded with (non gluten) flour. We got the appetizer which was small for four but what a bite it was! Prepared picatta style with lemon and capers, it was perfect, chef's kiss! My mom and I shared the lump crab salad which was divine, crab mixed with artichoke hearts and hearts of palm, served over mixed greens. It was simply delectable! My stay-dad, the birthday boy, ordered the five onion soup which was a creamy base with sherry notes. He said it was wonderful. Entrees consisted of filet Mignonette, elk chops and the wild salmon and everything was incredible! The filet was the best of all but the elk was done perfectly. It's the sauce in the filet that makes it so good, as well as the quality and cook on the meat. The salmon came with a lovely sauce and the birthday boy loved it!! The baked Alaska dessert was good but consisted mostly of ice cream. A nice amaretto cookie base and piped meringue on top. This was probably the weakest part of the meal. No big deal, though because the cappuccino was great and the decaf espresso got a nice review, as well! Drinks were superb, I had the grapefruit basil martini and a Chopin martini with bleu cheese olives! My daughter said the cosmos weee on point. My favorite thing from what we ordered would have had to be the onion soup. My boyfriend and I actually fought over it, haha. The crab cakes were underseasoned for my liking. The seafood thermidor was a little too salty for me but tasted better once I added acidity by squeezing a couple lemon wedges on it. The Caesar salad was okay. The chicken pasta was great! Absolutely do not go here if you want to eat something special and have good service. The prices are very high so we expect decent service. We booked a reservation for 6 pm. We got dirnks after 45 minutes and they were wrong. We got to order our appetizer after an hour. It came after 20 minutes and was just okay. So now 7:10 pm and we are just geting our main order in - another hour to order our main meal. Main meal arrives at 8:10pm. I had a filet. Utterly tasteless except for the sauce. The Scampi for two friensds was just okay. The seafood thermadore was way over sauced. Our friend took it home to rinse off and have it tomorrow. Infuriating was our waitor who ignored us to wait on two men across from our booth who were buying drinks and food for another table. Obvioulsy recurring "special" customers as all their food came befoer our appetizers and main meal. They got good service. What is it with guys in baseball caps in a nice restuarant? Does anyone have any class any more? So, for $500 dollars we got bad service - (come on, acknowledge your customers and let them know if things are slow, offer them another drink... don't ignore them), meidocre food and a huge price. We have been customers in the past for this restaurant and have saved it for special occasions. NO MORE. We will not return andwill not recommend it to anyone. This ruined our birthday celebration. I don't leave a lot of reviews, but I felt bricks restaurant did such an amazing job last night for my wife's 50th birthday party. Tim was our server and he did an amazing job. Both my husband and I ordered off the appetizer menu and we each ordered a salad, which turned out to be plenty for us. I was really looking forward to the calamari steak and scallops and my husband ordered the crab cakes. The calamari was delicious but I wasn't crazy about the scallops. I asked the waitress if next time I could just have calamari and she indicated that would be okay. I had the house salad, which was plentiful and he had the ceaser salad. Second time here and it was another great experience! We came here for Valentine's Day dinner last year and it was so good we did it again this year! We were lucky someone cancelled because I only booked it about one week out and they only had that one spot open for the night. The staff over the phone and in person were very kind. We were seated right at our reservation time, but if we arrived early they would've have room at their beautiful bar to grab a drink at before dinner. Great wine, great steak cooked perfectly, I had the rib eye special and my wife had the filet. We did a "baked Alaska" for desert, my first time having it and it was well worth the extra calories! We decided to try this place for the first time. I was in the mood for abalone, and I searched yelp and this is one of the few places that showed up with abalone. I called to make sure they had abalone, and sure enough they did have it. Abalone dinner is not cheap. But it's our 30th anniversary week (lots of in town dinners and fun), might as well splurge right? We called ahead to make sure they had a table, we showed up and were greeted nice enough. We sat in a booth, and had to wait for a while until our server came up. I ordered a Cadillac margarita and I specifically told the girl that I did not like a really sour margarita. And for her to instruct the bartender NOT to put extra lime, and if they didn't have sweet-and-sour, to use orange juice. When I got the margarita I tasted it, it was absolutely the most sour margarita I've ever had. It was like made with pure lime juice. We were on our anniversary so I didn't complain I just sipped it a little slower. My wife had a glass of Moscato. She enjoyed that. The waitress never asked us if we wanted another drink... I asked about the abalone dinner, I think it was $82. But they also had a rack of lamb. And a rack of lamb is something I really enjoy. So I asked her if I could order the rack of lamb, and maybe get just the abalone à la cart? She told me no, that I could only get it for a full dinner. Or I could pay the full price and they would just not put anything on the plate. she said I could have one 3 ounce medallion for $42 as an appetizer... So I decided what the heck let's try that. What we ordered: Cadillac margarita Muscato Abalone appetizer Grilled scallops and cal Rack of lamb medium rare The abalone was not very good...It was pounded to a super thin slice, then dipped in a batter/bread crumbs that was much thicker than the abalone. The sauce was mediocre and the bread crumbs and sauce basically rendered the abalone tasteless. The rack of lamb was not a rack. It was lamb chops. You can see from the pictures that the lamb was cooked after splitting. I think they did this to hurry the process. It is sad as I really wanted to enjoy my 2 favorite items. The fries served with the lamb were coated with flour, so nicely browned but under cooked under the coating. My wife's appetizer was good but only has 2 scallops To make a long story short, our server was just kind of negligent the whole evening. Every time we wanted something we had to ask the busser to go get her. It was obvious that she did not relate the desire to have a non-sour drink. We felt cheated on the abalone and Lamb. Bricks is amazing! Best rib steak! Super tender, and the flavor was not overwhelmed with marinade. You could taste the steak and the flavor of the actual meat. Rather than a marinade. Best steak my husband has had other than that what I cook him! I think I like the mushroom raviolis even more than the Eldorado's. Let me put it this way. They are more fragrant and flavorful because of the onions and I think the chicken stock they use. But it does kind of mute the mushroom flavor, but they were delicious a little richer than what you get at the El Dorado. So I guess it depends on what you prefer.
