I love going out to my favorite places and tonite we sat next to a man from New Zealand! My husband is from NZ and I have been there many times, such a beautiful country. Many years ago we use to have a Kiwi Club and we meet up once a month at different Bars around town. I miss those days, but last night it was like old times. We enjoyed not one but two bottles of the Cabernet Frank it's new on the menu and I absolutely loved it. Normally, I would order the Malbec. I feel like the wines are starting to have a better flavor about them and of course with that the cost goes up. I love the artisan size pizza. it's just the perfect size for two! The spicy conductor is my favorite. If your in downtown. Sparks you must pop in for a wine tasting flight to pick your next bottle of wine to share with friends or to enjoy yourself. Went to Engine 8 before catching a movie and it's such a wonderful combination! The only reason I gave 4 stars is the wine is just not for me - but the pizza is incredible! The spicy conductor might be one of the best pizzas in Reno/sparks. The outdoor patio is just so lovely in the afternoon/evening as it is shaded. I tried an $8 flight of 3 which were light sweet and refreshing. Our party also had a barrel aged flight. Our friend ordered the train wreck gluten free pizza. This place does pizza and wine Period and when you specialize in something you should do it well. Engine 8 does it well. They do have a limited selection of appetizers and desserts too. We love to go on nights when there is live music, either Friday or Saturday normally. It makes it so fun and people get up and dance too. Such great vibes always. They have THE BEST PIZZA in town hands down. The ingredients they use are great quality and you can tell. I've only been to Engine 8 three times. The first was years ago when they first opened. The last two times were more recent, mostly for quick bottle pick ups for gatherings. Engine 8 has great wine and great service. Most recently, I brought my grandma into Engine 8 to pick up some bottles for a family gathering. She was very impressed with their space. We were browsing wines and a nice woman came over to help us. She offered lots of recommendations and once we decided one a few wines she allowed us to sample three for free when we purchased two bottles! We tried the Malbec, the green apple, and the Barbera. We settled on purchasing the Malbec and the barrel aged Barbera. We loved the green apple but it was certainly on the sweet end. The two bottles were $30 and $40. A bit in the pricey end for a young wine, but well worth it to support one of Northern Nevadas only local wineries. Engine 8 does serve some food. I've only had the wine here. Overall, this is a great stop in the heart of Victorian Square. Enjoy some food and wine, then go see a movie right next door and make a date out of it! read more

For our anniversary, my wife and I recieved a ghost card to Engine 8. It was originally for a blending party for four, but could never get out schedules lined up for one. So one night, we decided to just head in for a bit and to try some of the wine. I'm so glad we did! They had a great menu with lots of tasty bites that paired fantastically with their wine. The wine is super food friendly and approachable. It's a lighter bodied wine with stand out fruit. It's not heavy or over extracted. This was our first time in and we were so happy we finally made it down! We did 4 flights and tried 15 different wines of which our favorites were the Barbara, Battle Born Blend and Chocolate Cherry Port. All of which were very good. Fun, young, flavorful and food friendly. Speaking of food, we started with the Steam Bites which we both very much enjoyed and then had their beautiful hummus plate. The peppers were such a fun and lovely touch and the hummus and peta bread were very well done. We finished off with their Spicy Conductor pizza which we loved! I recently went to an event at Engine 8 and was excited to see that they had gluten-free pizza. They only had Margherita available at our event, but when I spoke to them, they made it sound like they could do any of the pizzas gluten-free. My husband and I immediately made a plan to come back. A little over a week ago, my husband and I showed up at Engine 8 on a Saturday to grab dinner, they had the back room closed so all seating was upfront. There was a live musician performing, and it was so loud that I literally could not hear the questions that the waitress was asking me (my Apple Watch was registering 92 decibels at our table). I attempted to ask her if there were other pizzas that could be made gluten-free, since a vegetarian or Margherita pizza was not hitting the spot. She told me she would go to the back and check. When she came back, she pretty much told me that there was one other pizza That could be made gluten-free, but that not all of the ingredients on the pizza were actually gluten-free. I explained that I had celiac and she pretty much redirected me to the Margherita. I was not even given the option to build my own even though I asked. It was really disappointing. We left and had dinner elsewhere. I still gave them 3 stars. The wines are not bad and reasonably priced. And the Margherita pizza is pretty tasty. read more

The service was a horrible experience. If you go - allow for a lot of extra time. I had sampled a wine, and couldn't stand it. So I went to ask a question about two others on the menu and was cut off before I was able to ask and told if I wanted any more samples I had to buy a flight. Very disappointed experience. I came into this place with my mother and her friend for 4th of July. It was a very nice atmosphere inside and the air conditioning felt amazing with the summer heat! The decoration was a combination of old style artwork and trinkets. And wine bottles. Lots and lots of wine bottles! The service was not very, our waitress was good at getting our order correct and getting our drinks to us at a good time. Though she rarely stayed long and sometimes didn't hear us when we had a question. Plus at the end she was very rude when we asked to seperate our tickets, even though we told her that we would be doing so at the beginning. I ordered a triple meat pizza and it was real tasty! The cheese was nice and melty and the meats had a nice amount of them! It all blended together very well! We opted to get some dessert I chose the Cheesecake and, it is the weirdest cheesecake I've ever had! It didn't look or taste like Cheesecake, very bizarre! As a person with wine as a hobby, I was pleasantly surprised when i moved here 12 years ago that Reno / Sparks has so many nice wine venues. Right at the top of that list - for many reasons - is Engine 8. First when the nice weather arrives, they have the BEST patio in all of Reno / Sparks. Secondly, even if it was only a pizzeria they would be the BEST pizzeria in all of Reno/Sparks ...they have a nice small bites menu ...but the pizza is just one of a kind, first class all the way. Third, the ownership are such nice people, very accommodating and from the first time i visited as a new resident, they made me feel so welcomed. Fourth, i have met more nice people who also enjoy the amazing ambience. Last but not least, is the how the wine has improved from their first week in business to today. About 4 months ago i did a blind tasting at my home with their Merlot vs top much more expensive Merlot from Napa, Sonoma and Washington State. I invited 10 of my wine friends and it was eye opening as 5 of the 10 people selected the Engine 8 as their favorite! I still visit many of the other fine wine places in the area, but Engine 8 is my go to spot to visit. read more

The pizza here is absolutely top notch always delicious and one of our favorites in town. We love supporting local businesses, and the food alone would easily earn five stars. The atmosphere is also great. However, the customer service has been consistently disappointing. We always strive to be polite, but one particular server (an older woman with short hair) tends to be unfriendly, seeming annoyed or uninterested each time we visit. It really takes away from the experience. If the service matched the quality of the food, this would be an easy five-star spot. Hopefully, they can work on improving customer interactions because the pizza truly is fantastic. Our first time at Engine 8 Urban Winery, and we couldn't have been more impressed with the drinks the food and the service, after choosing to try it out on a busy night with a local concert happening nearby. We tried two of the slushee drinks, a blackberry margarita and an apple mule. Amazing on a hot night! The drinks were thick and perfect, slowly melting into amazingness. We also tried their margharita pizza which was delicious. Chunks of cheese, a tasty sauce and a delicious crust! Although they were super busy, our service was wonderful. We sat at the bar and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We loved our server and their volunteer! They also had a great musician playing outside doing various covers of well known bands. I really enjoyed the red wines personally, but my husband was not a huge fan for some reason. I didn't try the white wines but the members of my group seemed to enjoy them. We had a group of 10 and we ordered a few pizzas for the table which looked and smelled delicious. They also had a vegan pizza with a cauliflower crust which was great for my husband and I! They had snacks and cheese boards too for munching, and I was happy to have the food options. The space is open and has a bit of an industrial feel, there's also a back room you can reserve for larger groups or parties. In the summer I think there is outdoor seating as well. The timing was excellent because the band, Winter Lights Trio, had already started playing and there was one last hightop table available. There's live music Fridays and Saturdays, BTW. My waitress was quick to the table. I ordered a red wine flight, crostini bites appetizer, and cauliflower crust margherita pizza. The crostini and wine were both really good but the star of the meal was the cauliflower crust pizza. I've never had cauliflower crust that was this good.
