We came here for dinner on a work event while staying at Peppermill across the street. There was 20 of us and we made reservations in advance. We were seated right away although we could not sit together. They don't have a party room or table to sit altogether so they gave us a small section of the restaurant where we sat in separate booths. It was hard to visit with people. Each table had an order of their pepper poppers and buffalo wings waiting for us. The poppers had too much cream cheese and the wings were very hard and overcooked. We didn't eat all of them. I ordered the steak and ribs. You get 2 sides so I got a baked potato and Asparagus. I added a Parmesan tomato because that looked good. He asks if I wanted the potato "jacketed"? they do this on other items but they batter and deep fry the potato afterwards. Eh, I passed. Food arrived in good time and it looked good. The meat fell off the ribs and the steak was tender but it was so bland and boring that I really ate it just to eat it. I needed some A1. A good steak should be able to stand on its own. Even Sizzlers has a better steak which someone said that is what used to be there in its place. Service was attentive and friendly although he forgot my tomato. I told him no big as we had a lot of food already. Then he asked if we wanted dessert. I said sure, give us the dessert menu. He says, "we don't have one, I will just tell you what we have." We chose the bread pudding since it was a little different for the 3 of us to share. The table next to us said it was delicious. It was sizable and looked good but it was cold and hard as a rock. We each took one bite and didn't want anymore. It was awful. It may have been better if it was warm but it was stone cold. Then later when talking to other co-workers about it, they said theirs was warm. They must have forgot to heat ours up! So my boss summed it up, "it's a cross between Chilis and Outback steakhouse". Yeah, I couldn't understand why they were so busy? there has to be a better steakhouse for $30+ a plate? I was not impressed and give them 3 stars for effort. Nice place. Great decor but we came for the food. Enjoy the hot sourdough bread with butter because after that the food falls down dramatically. We both ordered the bacon wrapped filet and they had an odd taste almost like it was bacon wrapped over a week prior or something? The "jacketed potatoes" were quite frankly gross. It's like they dip a previously baked potato in some sort of batter then deep fry it so it has a rock hard outer cover that is inedible. The inside of the potato was fine though. The reason for three stars is because the service was great. We came here for our 30th anniversary because a few people recommended it. I'm wondering if it was at one time fabulous? I can easily see how with a few changes this place could be phenomenal but as of now it's barely better than Sizzler. So we come up every six months from Northern California. Ruby River is one of our favorites. The sweet potato deep-fried alone is an experience in itself with that creamy cinnamon butter Yum.! Last night we had a great experience with Hayden he was attentive. He was great customer service he made sure we got all of our food. He just was very, very kind. Date night done right! I cannot believe I had lived here so long and never knew this hidden gem was right under my nose. I love a great steakhouse and if you can make me a perfect steak, I'll be a customer for life. We received a gift card, so Ruby River was our first date place after becoming new parents again. I didn't want to leave our son, but the hubbs didn't have to twist my arm when I saw the menu and pictures I was sold. We ordered a browning onion to start, dinner came with salads and we both had a Caesar. I ordered filet Oscar and fried fully loaded baked potato was to die for! I would come back for that! We previously had a mishap where the food runner dropped my steak literally in my lap, but we were able to recover and didn't burn too bad. Accidents happen, but the managers lack of care didn't sit well with me. I didn't show how upset I was otherwise my hubby would have blown up. We enjoyed dinner even with the mishap. We went there last night for my birthday. If there was a "zero star" I would chose that! I ordered the 6 oz Top cooked medium. When it finally arrived after a lengthy wait, it was not even close to medium. It was Blood Rare! It had been on the fire such a short time that the scoop of soft butter didn't even melt! The "jacketed" jam was burnt to a crisp with a mushy inside. Jordan was apologetic and offered to have the chef cook it again. You NEVER, EVER send anything back to the kitchen!!! Would give 0 stars if we could, Ruby River Steakhouse overcharged our card by adding a large tip. My spouse and her friend ate dinner and had a few drinks. Myself and two friends later joined them for a few more drinks after having our own dinner elsewhere. The waiter split the bill for us, and our part of the bill came out to $97 and some change. We added a 15% tip and the total should have been around $112. However, when the transaction posted, it was in the amount of $140! We did some math to attempt to justify it, assuming maybe the waiter added an automatic 18% gratuity, even though we were a party of 5 (it says automatic 18% added for parties of 6 or more on their website) and even that only comes out to around $115. So long story short, come to Ruby River Steakhouse if you want to GET ROBBED!!! read more

Excellent little restaurant in Reno. Located directly across from the Peppermill Resort Hotel. The food and the service were excellent. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked Sirloin steak while my wife had the Salmon. We both enjoyed a perfectly cooked meal. Our waitress was attentive and nice. We never had a o wait for service. We wanted to try some place different and Ruby River was suggested by a co worker. It's a country bar meets restaurant. Cowboys boots lined up and Reno rodeo posters on the walls. We started with a couple of beers. Then on to a wedge salad. The salad was tasty just the right amount of blue cheese to bacon and tomato ratio. The bacon added a great smokiness to the salad. The ribeye was seasoned well and cooked to my liking. The baked potato was cooked with a batter on the outside, it was too greasy and off putting so I just pulled it off and it was fine. Hubby ordered the ribs and chicken. The ribs were fall off the bone tender but the chicken was meh, it sat on a strange tasting honey mustard, next time he said he'd ordered it without the sauce because everything else tasted great. The server and or bidder removed out plates as we finished, thankfully (pet peeve when they don't) so was appreciative We were offered dessert but we were both stuffed. read more

My wife and I went for dinner tonight at Ruby River Steakhouse. We are locals and enjoy going there. Tonight I ordered the steak and smothered chicken. The chicken was way overcooked and it was like shoe leather to eat. I informed the waitress about the overcooked chicken and she said she would have to talk to her manager. So we sat there and waited my wife finished her meal, and I was still waiting to see what they would do with mine. The waitress came out and said that the manager will give me a small discount never offering to actually re-cook the food that I ordered. When I saw the discount, it was a whopping six dollars. As we were leaving, I asked to speak to the manager The gentleman came out and I told him that it is pathetic that I did not get to eat my meal and nobody offered to re-cook it and you only gave me a whole six dollar discount. He said that's all a 5 ounce piece of chicken is worth. We will never go back again and I hope the manager gets some training on how to manage properly. read more

A comfortable western steakhouse that is so reasonable for the portions/sides you get. So many full sized sides that is ordered with the main dishes. The onion soup snowed thickly with 4 cheeses, yum. Their standard dinner salad comes with a myriad of veggies and chopped up boiled egg. We went earlyish on a Saturday and had a short wait. I will say all of the decor is pretty old/outdated looking (I guess that's the point?) but it was also dusty which never feels very appetizing. We ended up waiting quite a while for anyone to come to our table, and service from there remained somewhat slow, though our server was very kind and apologetic. The bread was pretty good, the steak was tasty and all the sides were alright. If you're looking for an outstanding steakhouse, this might not be it, but it's certainly not bad. read more

The poppers should come with a warning, burnt the top of my lip. On the the main course. I ordered filet with coconut shrimp. The shrimp was decent size but definitely not for the price charged to have extra added. My steak ordered medium well was a little under cooked but still eatable. My mom order d halibut that was dry and no flavor. The cheeseburger with bacon, the bacon was burnt. Like not eatable burnt. It would really be nice if out of state people would stop closing down our local gems. Chain restaurants are fine for just a "whatever" dining experience, but restaurants like this are exceptional for a celebration. My son-in-law and I both had the prime rib, and it was tough and chewy. My girlfriend and my daughter both ordered steak and they were not happy with what they were served. I've had recommendations for this place for years. Maybe we just waited too long to give it a try, but I was not a fan. The staff all hung out at The hostess stand just chatting away. The bathrooms weren't clean, probably cause they were all too busy chatting to care. The dining area didn't feel as if they cleaned well between each guest, and the food tasted like microwave meals to me. The only reason I gave 2 stars, is because I had a good cocktail and we didn't try steak that night since we weren't crazy hungry. I went there for dinner last night and ordered a filet mignon, baked potatoe and french onion soup. The soup was ok except it had 1/2" of cheese on top when it should have been a thin layer. I ordered the steak "medium" and told the server pink but not bloody. It came totally bloody and took three times to get it well enough to eat. Sent it back once with a manager and I would have thought he might come to check to make sure things were ok but didn't. First time I had eaten there and will definitely be my last. read more

We walked in and got seated and after 20-25 minutes a waiter finally comes and says he'll be right with us and never came back. Not even glasses of water were brought to our table. Total disappointment. We ended up leaving and eating at Nevada Grill next door. It'll be a while before we try dining at Ruby River again. Doesn't look like much from outside. Even when you walk in, it kinda reminds me of a Texas Roadhouse type of place. I was very skeptical of this place calling itself a steakhouse. But baybeeeee when that food came out!! The egg rolls were surprisingly good! Normally when we order any type of egg rolls with avocado, they are mushy on the inside. The mixture of the flavors and textures was nicely proportioned. The pork chops were so tender and juicy. The flavor was amazing! The asparagus that came with it was cooked and seasoned to perfection; Not too crunchy and not too mushy (same with the broccoli that came with ribeye). The ribeye was sooooo good! OMG! I can't speak on the kids burger because i didn't eat any of it... and neither did the kids, but what else is new?? Our kids love going to restaurants with us, order food, and not eat it. Haha! Went there with friends for dinner during hot August nights, seated within 5 minutes, cool. Friends all ordered steaks I got fish and chips. They liked their steaks but mine was absolutely the worst fish and chips I've ever had, besides the fact it came out cold. Obviously my fish was done first and sat until friends steaks were done. The fish itself was super thin and dried out and cold fries were just not good. Only reason for the one star is because they don't offer zero and the one thing that was good was the side of mushrooms. I will definitely never return. read more

Disappointing Birthday Dinner - Poor Service & Food Issues I decided to try Ruby River Steakhouse for my birthday celebration with family, but unfortunately, it was a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. From the start, service was terrible. My daughter-in-law ordered soup instead of salad, but when all the salads arrived, hers was missing. After asking three separate times, we were repeatedly told it was coming--only for them to bring a salad instead. They took it back, yet the soup never came. She eventually asked to just have a sweet potato with her meal instead. My son ordered a 12 oz ribeye medium rare, but it arrived well done. Meanwhile, my husband's fried fish was room temperature, but he just ate it to avoid further delays. Our meals arrived, yet my daughter-in-law's was still missing. When we finally flagged down the server to ask if her meal had been forgotten, we were assured it was on its way--only for them to bring out another 12 oz ribeye with baked potato instead of the filet and mashed potatoes with sweet potatoes she had actually ordered. By the time her correct meal arrived 20 minutes later, the rest of us had already finished eating. Throughout dinner, we had to ask for tea refills, and the service remained inattentive. My son, unable to eat his overcooked steak, mentioned it to the server, who said the manager would take it off the bill. However, when the check arrived, the steak was still charged. Upon asking about it, we were told that because my son had tried a couple of bites, the manager refused to comp it. The manager never once came by to check on us, despite walking past our table multiple times. I have never in my life skipped leaving a generous tip, but this was the first time I felt like the service simply didn't deserve it. A different manager and a more attentive server could have completely changed the experience, but as it stands, I don't think I'll be back. Not worth the gamble.
