I love this Steakhouse over any other steakhouse in Reno. It has a really homey feel to it, not a franchise. I always order the porterhouse. It is cooked exactly how you ask for it. Great Date night place to go, I don't mind how much the food is because it is always delicious. We ordered two porterhouse dinners comes with two sides. I also added jalapeno poppers and calamari, The calamari is very tender and the poppers are poppers. I also had the mashed potatoes with white gravy and it also is very different and delicious. read more

Ok, this is our second time to try Ruby River. I wasn't impressed the first time but..... gotta give it a try again. Ruby River is a small chain restaurant and this is the only one in Nevada while there are others in Utah. Our server (her first night solo) did amazing!! Cannot remember her name, probably due to the darn good margarita! Ok, our orders were Chicken with a raspberry glaze. From what I was told it was very tasty, but the chicken breast l's were a bit dry. The rest of us ordered rare prime rib. Ok, this is a steakhouse, and you would think prime rib would be top notch (same as I had on my last visit) un fortunately the results were very similar. Three orders of prime rib, rare, two baked potatoes one rice. The rice was tasty and made correctly, and the huge stuffed baked potatoes were insane! They deep fry a crust on their bakers which takes it to anew level. Oh , yeah there was also prime rib. We were told prior to getting our meal that we were lucky that we got the last prime rib. Oh boy!!! I expected them not to be rare, but to my surprise they were served rare/medium but closer to rare, so good on them. The prime rib had shaved horseradish on them(nice touch), but all was lost once I dug in to my meal. I ordered a 16 oz rib and possibly took off five ounces of gristle. The Au Jus was ok, kind of missing the full taste it should have. The rest of the prime rib was not very tender as I would have expected. Ok, the meal was ok, just ok! After two attempts of exactly the same meal with the same results. I'll be heading through Utah this summer and not stopping at Ruby River. The drinks were great though! read more

Unfortunately the food here is going downhill. It's happening slowly over the years. We eat here 2 or 3 times a year, usually with friends because we like the location and environment. 5 years ago it was consistently a great experience. Nowadays the food lacks flavor, quality and the portion sizes are small. Steaks tonight were chewy, my beer was flat and the salmon was dry and tasteless. My wedge salad was excellent! read more

My cousin recommended this steakhouse as we were visiting from Sacramento. Everything went very well and better than expected. The restaurant has a charming Western theme and the servers were super gracious and helpful. Everyone truly enjoyed their meals which were generously portioned. My prime rib was the best I've had in many years. We were all too full for dessert. read more

We decided to start date night here after several glowing recommendations. The atmosphere was much more casual than I anticipated, reminding me of some of my favorite local steakhouses in Texas. It was approachable and family friendly with western themed decor. We passed several tables where large gatherings were sat with multiple generations enjoying the space before we were led to a very private booth perfect for my fiancé and I. The menu was traditional steakhouse fare with several options that tempted me away from beef but the smell of steak from the kitchen prompted me towards a ribeye. The quality of the meat and size of the portions were both beyond expectations and our cooked to perfection. My only concern is that I don't live close enough to visit more regularly. read more

We went to dinner expecting to have a nice steak dinner with our out of town guests. The opposite happened. We ordered a bottle of nice wine and one Shirley temple. The Shirley temple tasted funny, we think the bartender substituted something, instead of the grenadine. We ordered 3 steak dinners and one chicken dinner. They brought the wrong chicken dinner. Then took 20 minutes to get us the right one to the table. We were all done eating when his food arrived. That's unacceptable. We wanted to order another glass of wine, and the server said the bar closed at.8pm. We arrived at 7pm and were not told they were closing early - 8pm. The steak was ok, my medium filet was over cooked and the skewered steak was also tough. I did not like the fried baked potatoe skin. The inside wax good. read more

Its a usual thing for my family and I to eat at ruby river while in town and have never had a bad experience. I must say we came about 6 months ago and noticed the food was disappointing but decided to give it another chance since its a regular thing for us to go there. Last night we went and were disappointed once again. The server was great but when ordered the jalapeño poppers they were frozen they replaced them with something else so that was ok. Then ordered a margarita and watched the bartender make it didnt even see her pour tequila in it and it just tasted like lime juice so that wasn't good. We then ordered our steaks and asked for them to be cooked medium and they were fully cooked. My husband didnt even get his salad until after he got his meal. This expirence was terrible. I hope after time I can bring myself to try once again to eat here but for now I think we need to find a new steakhouse. read more

Went there for dinner last Friday night for a date night. Service was great. Wife and I ordered ribeye steaks medium rare. First the steaks were paper thin. Not like the last multiple times we've came here. Second they were way over cooked. We asked for new steaks and we got them but they smelled rotten. Needless to say my wife got sick and I don't eat mine. We use to love this place. read more

I have been coming here for over 10 years. I always bragged about how good everything was. I recently had a work trip to Reno and took some colleagues here. It was not a good experience. All of our steaks were undercooked, the apps flavorless and seemed thrown together and my food recommendation rep took a major hit. At least I'll have memories of past great meals here. read more

Never thought I would try Ruby River but it was actually pretty good! A friend from out of town wanted to go, so we visited for an early dinner. The decor is indeed western themed with vintage cowboy boots everywhere and cozy, dimly-lit booths. We were sat right away and served a warm loaf of fresh bread with a ramekin of what sadly tasted like margarine instead of butter, and got our orders in. I had the 8oz ribeye which came out PERFECTLY medium and was melt in your mouth delicious! My sides were a garden salad which was okay, kind of frosty from the fridge, and a bowl of yummy French Onion soup with classic beefy broth and gooey cheese. My friend had the stuffed potato which was HUGE and she said it was good. Overall was impressed with the quality and prep of the meat and sides (except for the margarine and extra cold salad) and thought the service was great. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun, Reno-themed dinner! read more

If I professed to be a steakhouse, I would serve high quality steaks. The steaks here appear to be those that were turned down by quality steakhouses. You might say, "The bottom of the Bucket". We tried the place once and had a prime rib. It was terrible. But thinking that any place can have a bad night, we decided to give it another try. We will not be going back. read more

This place is always fun. They seem to get the steaks right every time. They're not overpriced. Sometimes I worry about the cleanliness. But check out this crème brûlée. Never had anything quite like it. Hope I don't have anything like it again. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. read more

Ruby River Steakhouse - Crème brûlée. It was like soup. - Steakhouses Near Me - Reno, Nevada

I've gotta admit, I am a sucker for a good cut of steak. But finding which one would satisfy my taste buds can be tougher than I thought. And when you're in Reno, you've got so many casinos offering screaming deals and specials on prime rib, filet mignon, and ribeye steaks, its hard to narrow down just one place. However, I took my chances trying out a place that only had 3.5 stars; this was none other than "Ruby River Steakhouse". Located directly on South Virginia St. and across the street from the "Peppermill" Hotel & Casino, Ruby River Steakhouse has been a long standing staple in the biggest little city in the world for several decades. This is their only Nevada location while they have 3 other locations in Utah; Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Provo. Since this was my very first time trying their food, I was hoping for a generous stick-to-your-ribs dinner that would leave me feeling full for the rest of the evening. I arrived here with my +1 at around 6:15pm during the late-afternoon/early evening of Saturday 7/1/2023. The parking lot is actually quite generous as they offer an abundance of spots available even during the busiest times. They do have very generous hours of operation being open Monday-Thursday from 4-9:30pm, Friday/Saturday from 4-10:30pm, and Sunday from 4-9pm. Reservations are not required. And from the time we entered until we were seated took less than 10 minutes; a very quick turnaround time on a busy Saturday evening. Upon entering, I loved the dark dim-lit ambiance that surrounds the entire building. Much of the decor has a prominent country/western theme to it including cowboy/cowgirl boots, a jukebox, and even signed guitars by country musicians. There are also other noticeable things including western attire (cowboy hats, lassos, spurs) and even a deer head taxidermy. This place also offers a full-on bar serving up a ton of cold beers on tap and mixed drinks. The overall look and feel of this place reminded me more of what I would see in Texas and not Nevada. As far as the menu goes, this place offers all the comfort classics. This includes appetizers including cheese fries, artichoke dip, egg rolls, and fried shrimp. They also offer a nice variety of salads, burgers, seafood, pasta, chicken, pork, and ribs. But the main reason why I wanted to come here is their steak. Here, you will find all the popular beef cuts; ribeye, New York, sirloin, porterhouse, filet mignon, and prime rib. After taking time what choice I wanted to make, I finally settled with a 6 oz. cut of the "Steak Oscar". This is a USDA choice top sirloin that is grilled to perfection and topped with crab, asparagus and their house-made béarnaise sauce. I chose a side of "Garlic Mashed Potatoes & White Gravy" and "Steamed Broccoli w/Garlic Butter". And to wash it down, I chose a large 22 oz. mug of Hefeweizen. My +1 went with a 10 oz. cut of their "Top Sirloin"; also with the mashed potatoes but a Caesar Salad. After placing our orders, everything arrived in a very timely manner; only 15 minutes. The entire presentation looked better than the pictures that I took. Probably because of this place being so dark, I didn't have the settings on my phone set correctly. As far as the steak itself, this tasted quite delicious; a little on the saltier side but it was cooked medium rare; just how I like it. The garlic mashed potatoes were amazing though but the white gravy too was quite a bit salty. I did like the steamed broccoli as the melted butter made this vegetable even something the kids would enjoy. Overall, the Steak Oscar itself was a 4.5 out of 5. All in all, "Ruby River Steakhouse" is an above average steakhouse that I highly recommend. It is no-frills meaning don't expect a white tablecloth. Even our server was in a tanktop and shorts (this was in early July) so rest assured that you can come here in a t-shirt and flip-flops. Best of all, this place is quite affordable; even with meat prices skyrocketing in 2023. I was amazed how this place has much lower prices than some of the more fancier steakhouses in Reno. With that said and done, I am giving Ruby River an above-average rating of four stars. read more

Went there for my birthday & hubbies and had amazing service from Lilli B. She was fantastic and we both had a feee desert!

I have never had a bad experience but today I had amazing experience with our server our food came out in a perfect time and it was cooked very well. We came here for dinner on a work event while staying at Peppermill across the street. There was 20 of us and we made reservations in advance. We were seated right away although we could not sit together. They don't have a party room or table to sit altogether so they gave us a small section of the restaurant where we sat in separate booths. It was hard to visit with people. Each table had an order of their pepper poppers and buffalo wings waiting for us. The poppers had too much cream cheese and the wings were very hard and overcooked. We didn't eat all of them. I ordered the steak and ribs. You get 2 sides so I got a baked potato and Asparagus. I added a Parmesan tomato because that looked good. He asks if I wanted the potato "jacketed"? they do this on other items but they batter and deep fry the potato afterwards. Eh, I passed. Food arrived in good time and it looked good. The meat fell off the ribs and the steak was tender but it was so bland and boring that I really ate it just to eat it. I needed some A1. A good steak should be able to stand on its own. Even Sizzlers has a better steak which someone said that is what used to be there in its place. Service was attentive and friendly although he forgot my tomato. I told him no big as we had a lot of food already. Then he asked if we wanted dessert. I said sure, give us the dessert menu. He says, "we don't have one, I will just tell you what we have." We chose the bread pudding since it was a little different for the 3 of us to share. The table next to us said it was delicious. It was sizable and looked good but it was cold and hard as a rock. We each took one bite and didn't want anymore. It was awful. It may have been better if it was warm but it was stone cold. Then later when talking to other co-workers about it, they said theirs was warm. They must have forgot to heat ours up! So my boss summed it up, "it's a cross between Chilis and Outback steakhouse". Yeah, I couldn't understand why they were so busy? there has to be a better steakhouse for $30+ a plate? I was not impressed and give them 3 stars for effort. I don't think they we will be doing this again and will opt out if we do. read more

We had a really disappointing experience at Ruby River Steakhouse in Reno. Our server barely checked on us -- I had to ask for a second drink myself, and she didn't even bother asking if my husband wanted another. She also completely forgot his side dish, and by the time we realized she wasn't coming back, he was already over it and didn't even want to chase it down. She only had maybe two tables, yet I still had to get up and ask for our check... which meant interrupting her while she was sitting three tables away eating her own steak dinner with coworkers. We also had to listen to their gossip the whole time. Super unprofessional. The food was mediocre at best -- neither of us finished our meals and we didn't take leftovers. The floors were dirty and looked like they hadn't been maintained at all, even though there were plenty of employees hanging around the bar chatting instead of working. Overall, definitely not worth the visit. We won't be back. read more

I think about this meal often. From appetizers to main course to dessert 5's all the way around! Our server was super nice and had amazing recommendations. Best steakhouse in town for sure. Great service, horrible food. Unfortunately I will not be returning because the waitress was very accommodating. The food want good at all.

Service was great however food was lacking. We ordered ribeye steaks. They were thin and everyone's was overcooked. Garlic broccoli had no garlic taste. Asked for a table for four and was told they are only used for large parties. One of our party has difficulty getting into a booth. For the $180 we spent it could have been much better. It's a favorite restaurant of ours but we won't be back. Our server was great. read more

Date night done right! I cannot believe I had lived here so long and never knew this hidden gem was right under my nose. I love a great steakhouse and if you can make me a perfect steak, I'll be a customer for life. We received a gift card, so Ruby River was our first date place after becoming new parents again. I didn't want to leave our son, but the hubbs didn't have to twist my arm when I saw the menu and pictures I was sold. We ordered a browning onion to start, dinner came with salads and we both had a Caesar. I ordered filet Oscar and fried fully loaded baked potato was to die for! I would come back for that! We previously had a mishap where the food runner dropped my steak literally in my lap, but we were able to recover and didn't burn too bad. Accidents happen, but the managers lack of care didn't sit well with me. I didn't show how upset I was otherwise my hubby would have blown up. We enjoyed dinner even with the mishap. We finished our night off with a créme brulee and asked for the sauce on the side. They have great food, prices are fair and call ahead if you have a big party. read more

Went there with friends for dinner during hot August nights, seated within 5 minutes, cool. Friends all ordered steaks I got fish and chips. They liked their steaks but mine was absolutely the worst fish and chips I've ever had, besides the fact it came out cold. Obviously my fish was done first and sat until friends steaks were done. The fish itself was super thin and dried out and cold fries were just not good. Only reason for the one star is because they don't offer zero and the one thing that was good was the side of mushrooms. I will definitely never return. read more

Amazing food . I'm never disappointed the service is out standing. The relaxed atmosphere is great.

Excellent service, good food, reasonable prices. It doesn't look terribly appealing from the outside (used to be a Sizzler) but the inside has great appeal. Lots of Cowboy decor and cabin vibe. We'll be back! read more

Great food and nice employees. Have eaten here many times. Prices are reasonable as well.

My only complaint is that they are in the expensive side, but that's expected at a steak house! The steak was cooked to perfection and the fries were an excellent surprise. They have the best sour dough I have ever tasted. The servers are nice and "real" and don't BS. read more

We wanted to try some place different and Ruby River was suggested by a co worker. It's a country bar meets restaurant. Cowboys boots lined up and Reno rodeo posters on the walls. We started with a couple of beers. Then on to a wedge salad. The salad was tasty just the right amount of blue cheese to bacon and tomato ratio. The bacon added a great smokiness to the salad. The ribeye was seasoned well and cooked to my liking. The baked potato was cooked with a batter on the outside, it was too greasy and off putting so I just pulled it off and it was fine. Hubby ordered the ribs and chicken. The ribs were fall off the bone tender but the chicken was meh, it sat on a strange tasting honey mustard, next time he said he'd ordered it without the sauce because everything else tasted great. The server and or bidder removed out plates as we finished, thankfully (pet peeve when they don't) so was appreciative We were offered dessert but we were both stuffed. read more

A comfortable western steakhouse that is so reasonable for the portions/sides you get. So many full sized sides that is ordered with the main dishes. Dressings tasted house made. **Baby back ribs are Flintstones size. So SOFT! OH, yes. Complimentary huge round loaf of sourdough bread. Really good portions. Our server was outstanding. read more

Ruby River Steakhouse - Humangous slab of ribs!! - Steakhouses Near Me - Reno, Nevada

Nice place. Great decor but we came for the food. Enjoy the hot sourdough bread with butter because after that the food falls down dramatically. We both ordered the bacon wrapped filet and they had an odd taste almost like it was bacon wrapped over a week prior or something? The "jacketed potatoes" were quite frankly gross. It's like they dip a previously baked potato in some sort of batter then deep fry it so it has a rock hard outer cover that is inedible. The inside of the potato was fine though. The reason for three stars is because the service was great. We came here for our 30th anniversary because a few people recommended it. I'm wondering if it was at one time fabulous? I can easily see how with a few changes this place could be phenomenal but as of now it's barely better than Sizzler. The manager did swing by to check on us which is definitely "old school" and most places no longer do things like that. Might be worth another try? read more

We had a gift card to Ruby River so we thought we'd give it a try. I didn't realize it was a chain or kinda on the same level as a Texas Roadhouse, but sometimes that's what you want. We went earlyish on a Saturday and had a short wait. I will say all of the decor is pretty old/outdated looking (I guess that's the point?) but it was also dusty which never feels very appetizing. We ended up waiting quite a while for anyone to come to our table, and service from there remained somewhat slow, though our server was very kind and apologetic. The bread was pretty good, the steak was tasty and all the sides were alright. If you're looking for an outstanding steakhouse, this might not be it, but it's certainly not bad. read more

Good server you could hear him talking to the other customers. Just a really good kid. Great food the steak is phenomenal. Salad is delicious. Their salad is like no other. Went last night for my mother Birthday Dinner. Party of 12. Service was good, but you don't go out to eat JUST for the service. Appetizers came out in good timing. The poppers should come with a warning, burnt the top of my lip. On the the main course. I ordered filet with coconut shrimp. The shrimp was decent size but definitely not for the price charged to have extra added. My steak ordered medium well was a little under cooked but still eatable. My mom order d halibut that was dry and no flavor. The cheeseburger with bacon, the bacon was burnt. Like not eatable burnt. The deep fried yam, not sure why this is done as it doesn't add extra flavor or at least mine didn't. View picture to describe it. Unfortunately, the food and quality was not great (4th visit trying). The service, she did a wonderful job! read more

This review has two sides to it. The hostess was definitely 5 stars. The server a strong 3-1/2 stars. Now let's talk about the food. Candied sweet potatoes were scorched. The garlic peppered rib eye cooked well but tough as shoe leather. The prime rib was by far the absolute worst prime rib my wife and I had ever had. Flavorless and tougher than any prime rib I have ever eaten. First and last time we will ever eat here. read more

All the food, but the steaks, were average. We expected more because of the wait on a Saturday. Calamari was mediocre. Bread was just ok. French onion soup...average too. Salad wedge was boring and not enough dressing. Seasoned fries were good. Steaks (Ribeyes) were ordered medium rare. Seasoning was great on both. One came medium and the other was medium rare. I expected more given the hype. Waitress was nice, and service was good. Had leftovers that we finished the next day so I was grateful to not have to cook....so portion sizes were decent. read more
