I went there for dinner last night and ordered a filet mignon, baked potatoe and french onion soup. The soup was ok except it had 1/2" of cheese on top when it should have been a thin layer. I ordered the steak "medium" and told the server pink but not bloody. It came totally bloody and took three times to get it well enough to eat. Sent it back once with a manager and I would have thought he might come to check to make sure things were ok but didn't. First time I had eaten there and will definitely be my last. read more

Went there with friends for dinner during hot August nights, seated within 5 minutes, cool. Friends all ordered steaks I got fish and chips. They liked their steaks but mine was absolutely the worst fish and chips I've ever had, besides the fact it came out cold. Obviously my fish was done first and sat until friends steaks were done. The fish itself was super thin and dried out and cold fries were just not good. Only reason for the one star is because they don't offer zero and the one thing that was good was the side of mushrooms. I will definitely never return. read more

My pop choose this place to take me for a late bday dinner. I was indifferent about going, as it was mediocre reviews. The ambiance kind of reminds me of Texas Roadhouse, a casual cowboy-themed steakhouse minus the peanuts all over the floor. Dark walls, neon lights at the bar, low lighting. The reference is not a bad thing, I actually enjoyed the ambiance for this occasion. The waitress was very polite, always a nice smile and patient with the old folks mulling over the menu. They brought out a small, warm round of French bread with soft butter which was a good starter. The parents had side salads as one of their sides and my son and I each had the Caesar salad. The salad was good but they did go pretty heavy on the dressing on all the salads, I would have preferred about 1/2 the amount. All the dishes that came out were good. Three steak dishes and the steaks were cooked well and seasoned well. My came with some crab on top which tasted good but the pinkish appearance kind of threw me off. One salmon dish looked, and I'm told, tasted good. My pop and his wife both got the baked potato as a side too. Be forewarned, those things are massive! They could be a meal in themselves. Again, not a bad thing. Finally, we shared three desserts: bread pudding, giant cookie w ice cream, apple crumble. The latter two were both really sweet and really good! Disappointing Birthday Dinner - Poor Service & Food Issues I decided to try Ruby River Steakhouse for my birthday celebration with family, but unfortunately, it was a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. From the start, service was terrible. My daughter-in-law ordered soup instead of salad, but when all the salads arrived, hers was missing. After asking three separate times, we were repeatedly told it was coming--only for them to bring a salad instead. They took it back, yet the soup never came. She eventually asked to just have a sweet potato with her meal instead. My son ordered a 12 oz ribeye medium rare, but it arrived well done. Meanwhile, my husband's fried fish was room temperature, but he just ate it to avoid further delays. Our meals arrived, yet my daughter-in-law's was still missing. When we finally flagged down the server to ask if her meal had been forgotten, we were assured it was on its way--only for them to bring out another 12 oz ribeye with baked potato instead of the filet and mashed potatoes with sweet potatoes she had actually ordered. By the time her correct meal arrived 20 minutes later, the rest of us had already finished eating. Throughout dinner, we had to ask for tea refills, and the service remained inattentive. My son, unable to eat his overcooked steak, mentioned it to the server, who said the manager would take it off the bill. However, when the check arrived, the steak was still charged. Upon asking about it, we were told that because my son had tried a couple of bites, the manager refused to comp it. The manager never once came by to check on us, despite walking past our table multiple times. I have never in my life skipped leaving a generous tip, but this was the first time I felt like the service simply didn't deserve it. A different manager and a more attentive server could have completely changed the experience, but as it stands, I don't think I'll be back. Not worth the gamble. Finally picked a perfect time and made it in without a wait. The looks from the outside to when you entered was quite surprising. We wore our masks as we entered, but from the time we were greeted, and until the time seated, it was very obvious no one else was wearing a mask.. Lots of tables that continued all the way to the other side of the restaurant. Since it was only 4 pm, there was plenty of customers. The booths are nicely situated apart from others and it is very dark inside.. (had to use my phone to help see the menu. Menu was very easy to select and not overwhelming with choices. Ordered the blooming onion which was perfect in size (although $9.99 I thought was a tad high for how small).. but I liked the sauce and it was not saturated in oil. Both orders were with combos of ribs and chicken, and a sirloin. Ribs were falling off the bone, (a good thing), but some pieces on top were hard and burnt.. Sirloin and the smothered chicken were decent. The two sides ordered with the meals were a dinner salad (which came with crumbled eggs) which was sent back for no eggs.. and a Caesar salad .. which was a nice option and no upgraded price.. Also enjoyed the yam.. perfectly baked and delish! Our server was attentive and friendly. Nice to have management also bring out the dinners. A show of support to helping the staff was nice to see. We went here for the second time. The service was excellent. Most of the food was great. I know it's never smart to order fish at a steak place but I do it anyways. I absolutely would not recommend the halibut. It was super dry and super fishy. All in all I would recommend this place just stick with steak. read more

Just impossibly badly prepared food. Setting was fine, broken sign out front but the interior was okay, solid 4/10. I sat at the bar and was given average (B-) service from a very overworked bartender. Shrimp cocktail was tasteless and boring. Overcooked shrimp and bottled cocktail sauce. The 12oz. bacon-wrapped filet mignon plate was horrific. "Seasoned rice" was a microwave packet of rice in a small side dish that came with a big elbow indent in it, with a strong fake flavoring taste and chewy/hard grains. Asparagus was literally just boiled/steamed with no salt/pepper/lemon anything. Tap-water pooling around gray-green spears. The filet came with 40% of the bacon "wrapped" and sixty percent laying sadly on its side around the filet. The filet, ordered medium rare, comes out raw/rare without a hint of seasoning. Staggeringly it has two massive slashes top to bottom through the steak. Perhaps some dopey cook things that this is the appropriate way to cook a large steak? I am hungry so I eat all of it but yikes, don't expect much. Anyway, miserable experience and a chef/kitchen manager who has no clue what he's doing. read more

Food was (and is usually) very good. They were short handed and the staff pushed through it well. My only major concern would be the cleanliness of the facility. If the view from the bar top looks like this (and the floor looks worse) I can only assume that the stuff you can't see, may be even worse. I mentioned it to one of the employees and they said "it's just old shit, that happens." I've had "old shit" and I've managed to clean it and keep it clean. That's a poor copout. After reading other great reviews, I decided to bring my son here for his birthday. They only take reservations for parties of eight or more so I was worried that it would be a long wait when our party of three arrived but we were seated almost immediately. I liked that this place is not inside a casino and has plenty of parking. The restaurant has many tables with many booths. Not long after we were seated, our server greeted us with warm bread and butter and took our drink orders. I am so used to bread not coming until after orders are placed so this was great. The service throughout our visit was great. Our server checked to be sure we were enjoying our meal, brought more bread and refilled our drinks without us asking. (the drinks that offer free refills). Overall, reasonable prices, great service and food prepared perfectly. read more

Whoever decided the 'Filet Mignon' was 'Award Winning' failed to specify which award. One overdone and the other not edible and didn't bother taking home for the dog. My boyfriend and I went out for a date night, started out okay got some cocktails and salad 25 min after we placed our order they brought my food out 20 mins after that they brought my boyfriends steak out he ordered a medium rare it was still mooing after he cut it through the middle and they took it back and said they would bring him a new one instead and they just recooked that same one so then it was hard as a brick. I have been here multiple times, and the service is always good. I ordered the French onion soup as an appetizer, it was okay, lots of cheesy goodness but could have had more flavor. I ordered the 12 oz newyork for my entrees, which was cooked to perfection. I decided on a dessert and was hoping for a hot fudge brownie, but that was not an option, so I opted for the creme brule. I was not informed that the creme Brule was going to be covered in raspberry sauce, so it's a good thing I'm not allergic. The creme Brule was very disappointing because it was not cooked properly and had a soup texture as it did not set properly when cooked. Fair well Ruby River. We must part ways. We do not live in Reno, we have hone to Ruby River as a place you can count on. We had our last meal there. I absolutely loved their horseradish, unfortunately, it has changed. There was literally no taste to it! No hot or sweet! The tiger shrimp was 3 medium size shrimp, for $18.00. I have gotten larger shrimp at Ralye's! The asparagus was not cooked, hard and still bitter. The ice tea was gross, it looked like chocolate milk. They were out of the beer we wanted. I got the ribeye steak with jacked baked potato and Cesar salad. The salad was good, cold and crisp. The jacked baked potato was just ok, they charge an extra $5 for cheese and bacon, which in my opinion is not worth the charge. Now for the steak. It was a let down. The meals were sent back, only to be RE-HEATED. Needless to say they were not edible. You really can't go wrong with a ribeye smothered in butter and garlic! Ruby river on a Monday night was quick and delicious. It's not an above and beyond steakhouse experience, but they do meat and potatoes very well. The ribeyes were seasoned perfectly but both of ours were unevenly cut, so half the steak was well done and half was to the requested temperature. We both had a salad to start and they were a good portion, fresh lettuce, and delivered quickly. My baked potato had been deep fried! Que the shock and awe. A regular baked potato will never do after experiencing a whole potato dropped into a deep fryer. It was rich and delicious and I was only able to eat about 1/4 th of my meal! We'll be back for an affordable and yummy steakhouse meal for sure. read more

I finished all my food and fell ill at the end which had nothing to do with the food. I passed out on the floor in the kitchen walk way area as I was attempting to find the bathroom. I was surrounded by the staff who was extremely caring and concerned. One of the waitresses was going to school for nursing and said I may be low on sugar so she gave me a glass of apple juice. No one was making a big scene of it and did not notified my partners at the table as requested which was extremely tactful. Anyway, the staff went above and beyond and made me fell safe. My husband and I finally visited Ruby River this weekend and we are so glad that we did! We were amazed at the portion sizes of the sides and mains and how amazing everything tasted! We each got the New York strip and they were cooked perfectly. The jacketed potato was amazing, wedge salad was crisp and delightful and the French onion soup was so flavorful! We also got the appetizer sampler with the steak and avocado egg rolls, coconut shrimp and wings which we would highly recommend to start the meal. Our server Lili was simply wonderful! She took such good care of us throughout our meal and when she found out we were expecting our first baby girl she went even more above and beyond to make sure everything we needed was taken care of. Family in town and they wanted to go out for dinner the final night they were here. I mentioned Ruby River, curious, seeing as how I'd never been, and they got excited! They're from Utah and they're familiar with Ruby River and said it was really good so we all decided that's where we'd go. Walking in, I definitely got a Texas Roadhouse vibe from it. The carpets are outdated and it could use a bit of a makeover. It was a tad darker inside, but I don't mind that for a steakhouse. We were very quickly seated with our reservations at 7 and our waiter was amazing! He was the friendliest ever, quick service, quick witted, and didn't forget anything we asked for either. We ordered the Salmon Oscar, the Garlic Ribeye, the Filet mignon skewers and a New York. Three with Jacketed potatoes and one with mashed potatoes and white gravy. One side of sautéed mushrooms and one side of Parmesan tomatoes. I also loved the sourdough in the beginning. For drinks I ordered a frolicking through the sand. My boyfriend got the Midori Margarita. And our family got a Fat Tire and glass of wine. The food was amazing! I'll have to admit my nerves when I saw previous reviews saying the food was lacking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't this night!! It was all perfect! My salmon could have been a bit bigger and I'll ask next time if you can pay to upgrade to a slightly bigger piece. But other than that, it tasted great! The crab was a nice add on, the bèarnaise sauce was buttery and lemony with a bit of herb. Those fried pickles with that thick ranch were AWESOME! And I LOVE lemon seed catchers hahaha. The mushrooms were perfect. The tomato was a bit under cooked for my boyfriends mom, but she said it was still good. Omgosh the food was fkn delicious!! Everything had the right amount of flavor, texture, temperature etc. the service was quick! Our waitress was nice, only thing wrong was we ordered a pitcher of beer but she brought us a glass instead. No we didn't send it back or say anything but that's our fault, she still did an amazing job! The food was brought out by who I believe was the chef. We tried Ruby River Steakhouse for the first time the other night. The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived; there's was hardly an open parking spot but when we walked into the restaurant, our party was seated immediately. Our server, Michael was nice enough and checked in on us from time to time. The only downside was that I had to ask for our drinks to be refilled. Also,'my companion had to ask the bus-person clearing the plates for a refill on his drink because he was chocking on the garlic butter on his steak; the sauce was that potent: it made the steak almost inedible. My other companion ordered a "medium-well" cut of prime rib but the cut that was served to her looked a bit rawer than medium. As for my ribeye, it was tender and a good size steak but a bit under-seasoned. The best part of the meal was Michael was gracious enough to mix me a strawberry lemonade (because I don't think it was really part of the drink selection) and the appetizers; we order the "Browning Onion" (a battered and deep-fried whole head of a sectioned onion) and an order of fried calamari. Our entrees each came with two side items and one of the sides I chose was the French onion soup, which was absolutely divine. I'd go back to the restaurant just for the appetizers and the French onion soup. The staff from the hosts, the food runners, bus-person and our servers were pleasant. The restaurant manager even checked in with us after our meal; which was cool. So, overall, our first dining experience wasn't perfect but we're willing to give this place another chance. read more

My family took me here for my Birthday last night. Has been a tradition for many years now. We were probably the 3rd party sat when they opened. We were sat in a booth, 5 adults a child and a baby. It was the worst experience ever. The service was terrible and the food not much better. Server only checked once after our food was all delivered. Not even enough room for everything on the table since it all comes separately. Couldn't get refills on drinks or even give feedback on food. He would walk past and not even glance our way!! Brought containers and never even questioned the full plates uneaten. Too many things to mention.i made it a point to speak to the manager on the way out who said he would look into it.
