Omgosh the food was fkn delicious!! Everything had the right amount of flavor, texture, temperature etc. the service was quick! Our waitress was nice, only thing wrong was we ordered a pitcher of beer but she brought us a glass instead. No we didn't send it back or say anything but that's our fault, she still did an amazing job! The food was brought out by who I believe was the chef. We were checked on multiple times to make sure everything was good. I can't wait to go back! Oh and btw all the decor was my favorite, love all the boots on the shelves and walls! So cute! read more

We tried Ruby River Steakhouse for the first time the other night. The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived; there's was hardly an open parking spot but when we walked into the restaurant, our party was seated immediately. Our server, Michael was nice enough and checked in on us from time to time. The only downside was that I had to ask for our drinks to be refilled. Also,'my companion had to ask the bus-person clearing the plates for a refill on his drink because he was chocking on the garlic butter on his steak; the sauce was that potent: it made the steak almost inedible. My other companion ordered a "medium-well" cut of prime rib but the cut that was served to her looked a bit rawer than medium. As for my ribeye, it was tender and a good size steak but a bit under-seasoned. The best part of the meal was Michael was gracious enough to mix me a strawberry lemonade (because I don't think it was really part of the drink selection) and the appetizers; we order the "Browning Onion" (a battered and deep-fried whole head of a sectioned onion) and an order of fried calamari. Our entrees each came with two side items and one of the sides I chose was the French onion soup, which was absolutely divine. I'd go back to the restaurant just for the appetizers and the French onion soup. The staff from the hosts, the food runners, bus-person and our servers were pleasant. The restaurant manager even checked in with us after our meal; which was cool. So, overall, our first dining experience wasn't perfect but we're willing to give this place another chance. read more

Used to really like this place but last time we went they were unable to cook a filet correctly after two tries. Ordered medium and was very rare. Appetizers were bland and not very good. Thought we would give it another chance today. We were seated quickly then ignored. Waitress brought bread and took drink orders for a couple that were seated about 10 minutes after us. She walked right by us and acted like we were invisible. No eye contact, no water, nothing. My family and I have been going here for years. We've always had a good time with amazing food. Tonight we went in for my mother's anniversary. Our service was lacking as well as our food. Our waitress didn't know the menu at all, we received dirty plates. When we said something she had my husband clean the table with a rag. When our food came, my steak wasn't even cooked. I ordered mine medium. My mother's was also underdone. I sent mine back, about 10 minutes later it came back but the outside was burnt and the inside was dry. For a $30 steak, I was not going to waste it or complain anymore. When my father ordered, the waitress stated that his meal came with two sides. He then got charged for the second side because it was only suppose to come with one. My second time enjoying a Ruby River (there are only four). These guys are great. Not everyone can afford to spend twice/thrice as much at an upscale steakhouse, and this place gives regular folks an option to enjoy a special meal without it being some stale national chain. Steaks are delicious and correctly prepared. Plenty of nice sides choices, as well. Larger appetites might enjoy their great appetizers, but at my tender age I want to make sure I finish my entree at a steakhouse, and leave a possible option for dessert. Our waitress was pleasant, and it was darned busy on a Tuesday night after V-Day. Nice that it was right across the street from where we were staying. A local friend suggested this place located across the street from the Peppermill for dinner. This place was definitely busy which I took as a good sign. There's a good size parking lot, but it might be a problem for an RV I was the mood for some fish & chips. My buddy ordered roast beef. But the waiter came back saying the we're out of the roast beef. So he ordered fish & chips too. As a server, I felt he (Reed) must of been a little "green" as he made a few classic mistakes (like no silverware, etc.). He was nice though. The fish portion sizes were very reasonable. However, the fish was a little bit of a let down, flavor-wise. It wasn't bad or greasy. It just lacked a lot of "good" taste. But then again, I was ordering fish at a steak joint. The french fries were good and malted vinegar & lemon helped with the fish. I definitely wouldn't come back here for fish. But I might try it again for a steak though. All I can say is great! My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday. She wanted to order a cocktail and asked our waiter for recommendations and he was super helpful and knew all the drinks well and made great recommendations. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon medium/medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Super tender and tasty. I got fries on the side and they were also crispy and delicious. My girl ordered new York steak with a side of baked potato and I can easily say that baked potato was the best I've ever had. Super good. All in all a great experience. Great food and good prices. All good food they were nice enough to split the entree for us. The food was good the staff was friendly and they got us right in. Okay, so this place was a little rough at first sight. Im referring to the bar area. It could use a little revamp or TLC. But we rolled with it. I'm so glad we did! The food was fantastic! Im sad to say, I've never heard of this restaurant before. I was told how amazing this place was and I thought the person was over exaggerating. We ordered the top sirloin steak and the ribeye steak. They were amazing and cooked perfectly! Our waitress was the best and was super nice to my son. She was bringing him a lemonade and she saw he was looking at another tables pink lemonade, so she offered that one to him instead. We usually go to Anthony's Chophouse, but they have a bit of competition now. We will definitely be visiting here again soon. read more

I was in Reno for a convention and stopped in Ruby River for a quick dinner. I sat at the bar since I was by myself but shortly after I sat down, the others at the bar left and I was alone, except for the bartender, who was busy. Oh well, I ordered a beer and enjoyed some sips before my Steak Oskar arrived. I got extra asparagus on the side rather than have potatoes-a must! I hadn't had anything Oskar-style in a couple decades so I was thrilled that it was on the menu! Delicious! The steak was cooked to my desired medium. We recently had a family dinner at Ruby River. It wasn't a good dining experience. Of our seven meals, four had mistakes or missing items. Multiple steaks seemed smaller than they should be, especially my order. For a 9oz Filet Mignon at $30, I received exactly five asparagus spears and a very small steak split into two pieces. I'm very very skeptical it was over 6oz (before cooking). When I said I wasn't happy with my meal, the server seemed dismissive and shrugged her shoulders and brought over the manager. After speaking to the manager, we waited for a long time for more asparagus. Although we eventually only paid for a 7oz steak, it ruined the evening. We weren't being unreasonable. We won't be coming back. The place feels a bit dirty (carpet, paint) and has seen better days. read more

My family took me here for my Birthday last night. Has been a tradition for many years now. We were probably the 3rd party sat when they opened. We were sat in a booth, 5 adults a child and a baby. It was the worst experience ever. The service was terrible and the food not much better. Server only checked once after our food was all delivered. Not even enough room for everything on the table since it all comes separately. Couldn't get refills on drinks or even give feedback on food. He would walk past and not even glance our way!! Brought containers and never even questioned the full plates uneaten. Too many things to mention.i made it a point to speak to the manager on the way out who said he would look into it. Ruby river is by no means a steakhouse in the traditional, higher end meaning of the word. Its really a roadhouse. Exceptionally loud and filled with drunk patrons in tank tops having a good time. Theres certainly nothing wrong with any of that but steakhouse usually means a bit more upscale. Service was friendly and fun. Food was weird. Artichoke dip with green chilis AND basil does not work. The baked potatoes is coated in a cinnamon funnel cake batter which doesnt work at all. Steak was a $15 stake at a $30 price and the garlic topping was just straight garlic. Ruby River Steakhouse provides an excellent dining experience. The atmosphere is Tex-Western, which makes for great steakhouse ambience. Our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered prime rib, which was delicious. I also had a Manhattan cocktail that was also delicious. One of my sides was a wedge salad, which was fresh and fairly large for a side dish. My experience with Ruby River is that they provide generous portions overall, which I think provide a good value for the pricing. This was my second visit to Ruby River in the past month, and so far, the quality of service and food has been consistently good. The jalapeño poppers and wedge salad are about the only things that taste good anymore. I ordered a medium rare steak and got a well done one instead. The ribs are boiled- not smoked or grilled- at a "steakhouse" but the worst part is our server couldn't be found by us for 10 minutes or another server for another 10 minutes. Honestly one of my favorite places to go to when I got to Reno. This place has huge portions, affordable, and has great service. Been here on several occasions so definitely hits the spot every time. This last trip I notice the portions are a bit smaller and the prices went up slightly. I totally understand due to the times and supplies. Bread they serve is almost like a sourdough but not so much of that sourdough tang. Build your own sampler has several options to choose from. We normally pick the blooming onion, fried pickles, and the steak and avocado eggrolls. Came out quick and hot. With their serving sauces are all so good. The sauce for the onion is like the chic-fil-a sauce; bbq, ranch, ketchup combo. The steaks are always cooked to perfection to the degree we request and it's seasoned to perfection. Sides we've ordered everything from the salads; Caesar salad is packed with croutons(just the way I like it), wedge salad, soup(onion soup: a little bland but a little salt was good and it wasn't really hot when served), baked potatoes are 'jacketed' with a thin beer batter and are always packed with toppings. Yam is delicious with the cinnamon butter. Chicken Alfredo was HUGE ; I barely put a dent in it but it was really creamy bits of bacon and mushrooms with chunks of chicken; had a little wine flavor to it. They do serve seafood in lieu of a steak if you don't feel like a steak. We NEVER have enough room for the desserts, one of these days we will try it out. My boyfriend ordered the 32 oz margarita which looked amazing but half filled with ice which I get as well. He said it was pretty strong. They are not taking reservations but to be honest the last three times we've gone we were able to walk right in and be seated. That included on weekends as well. This last time was on a Monday about 5:30. Just go early to get your grub on and give you enough time to digest. Bread was ok. Ordered 2 prime rib meals "medium", they came out jiggly, raw, and cold. I asked the waitress if they can cook mine a little longer, I took a bite and it was not something I could stomach she apologized, took it back ......then brought it back microwaved (as if I would not know) It made the meat very tough around the edges (I couldn't even pull my fork back out of it without a good tug) not only that it smelled bad (like wet dog). My son ordered the garlic sirloin also "medium", it came out welllllll done and no garlic. After the microwaved prime rib came back out, I told my waitress to take it back and remove it from my bill, she apologized and went to let her manager know, he turned and gave us the stink eye, thattttt wasssssss it for me. Sometimes when you walk into a restaurant it's a little confusing because you're not really sure what that restaurant is about and they don't really have a clear brand. This restaurant has its brand down and sets the mood with it's funky western theme from the minute that you walk in the door! Love the boot and electric guitar collections that are everywhere you look! It feels like you've stepped into a decorated barn and sets the casual, western steakhouse theme perfectly! We got a friendly greeting from the hostess and were seated promptly by the hostess. Our food server Tanner quickly came over and gave us some of the best service for the entire meal. I had the top sirloin and shrimp and chose French onion soup and baked potato as my 2 sides. The soup was delicious and the baked potato had this delicious baked crust that I've never seen before. Steak and shrimp were both flavorful and cooked perfectly. Loved the half lemon they served with the shrimp! Hubby had coconut shrimp and top sirloin with sides of mashed potatoes and gravy and blue cheese wedge salad-loved everything! We are visitors from out of state, and ran into a couple from Reno at a gas station along the way- they highly recommended Ruby River Steakhouse. The first night we were blown away by the food. The prime rib and ribeye steak were tender and well flavored (no need for sauce). The jacketed baked potato was excellent, and the vegetables cooked perfectly (not hard, and not mushy). The second night my husband repeated the prime rib and I tried a burger. Still not disappointed. The fries were tasty too. And we loved the atmosphere- casual and comfortable. We will definitely be coming back. Note: Our server the first night was fabulous. The second night or server wasn't as attentive and we had to ask for drink refills. Ruby River is the hidden treasure of Reno. The entire staff works as a team. Everyone is motivated and over the top friendly. The menu goes on & on & on. Asked her a few questions and decided to go for it. Arrived, seated quickly. Clean nice set up. Kaitlin was my server, quick friendly and great at her job. Did large ribeye, dry baker and broccoli. Food came out super fast, I'd say less than 10 minutes (they were not that busy) looked great, tasted better and the price was right. Everything I was looking for. Will definitely go again. Prime Rib- Good, but the au jus was tasteless and the shredded horseradish was old and dried out. Raspberry Chicken - Dry and VERRRY overcooked. The chicken was obviously cooked previously and then reheated when ordered. My niece ordered this as they were out of the salmon. For a girl that loves salmon and chicken, this was disappointing. We had to bribe her with ice cream just to get her eat half of it. Porterhouse - Great 18oz steak with at least 4oz of pure fat. House bread - Fresh, warm and good. Service was OK, but dont ever ask for the manager cause it will be a waste of your time. My wife and I ordered the Prime Rib (she 12oz, me 16oz). When the dinner arrived my father-in-law was served his Porterhouse steak with the 18oz medium wood marker in it. Then the server (who was not our waitress) called out the Prime Rib's she said they were two 12oz med-rare Prime Rib steaks I corrected her and said there should be one 12oz and one 16oz. She then pulled out the wood markers without letting us see them and said "I think this one is a thicker cut". She asked if she should take it back to get a full 16oz cut but I told her not to worry and just let our waiter know to charge me for the 12oz. The server told me "No problem, I will make sure you only get charged for the 12oz" About halfway through dinner the manager came out and asked if there was a problem. I told him that I ordered a 16oz Prime Rib, but got the same cut and thickness as my wife's 12oz. He preceded to start an argument with me they weigh every cut of steak and have never served the wrong cut or cook of any steak. I was not asking for a free meal or anything special, I just wanted to be charged appropriately. Will I come back - maybe in the future Will I recommend it - nahh dont think so.
