Spent $100 for 4 of us recently but I won't be going back anytime soon. The service itself was great, waiter guy was nice no issues there. But all of us had a biscuit with our breakfast and they honestly tasted like day old biscuits that had been left out overnight-KFC has better biscuits than this place and that's not saying much. 3 of us had chicken fried steak and we all agreed it had a different taste/smell. The quality of the food has definitely gone downhill since I was a teenager. Home fries are just deep fried potatoes not much thought went into the food preparation the bacon you could tell was precooked and they didn't even reheat it to warm so it was cold. staff was friendly enough but they definitely need to improve the food pancake was just lackluster $4.50 for coffee & $4.99 for orange juice made it an expensive meal not worth it read more

Decided to stop by Jack's cafe for breakfast before leaving back home to sf. This restaurant has a parking lot in the back with plenty of parking which is a plus! We went on a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy but we were seated fairly quickly. The menu had tons of options like your typical diner food. They also have fresh squeezed orange juice that was soo yummy! The food also came out pretty quick so they are very fast. Our waiter was very nice and attentive which made the experience amazing. As for the food, it was delicious and the portions were huge. I'd definitely be coming back again next time I'm in town. read more

Cool little hole in the wall. Don't let the old dirty building disuade you. We were quickly seated. Their menu is HUGE. a little too huge. I went with the breakfast sandwich while the wifey went with bacon and eggs. Let's just say my wife wouldn't shut up about the bacon. She loved it. As for my sandwich, it was great. I definitely would not do the home fries though. Not that good. As for our waitress, she was cool. The coffee was great also. Side note finally a place that serves Pepsi products. Jacks is cool. This was my first time here at Jacks Cafe in Sparks on Victorian....WOW! Right from the start the service was fantastic. Thank you to Aileen with your amazing smile. We were seated right away at a table for 2. My friend Marlene recommended Jack's Cafe. The restaurant was buzzing. There were people waiting outside on the bench, a full house as well as Jack's back room was filled with families. I came for breakfast, Marlene came for lunch. You can also come in and sit at the counter. So many choices. The restaurant was nice and clean. The table was so cute with all the condiments nicely presented. We were welcomed in and the menu had so many choices. They are open for breakfast and lunch and close at 2:00. Jack's Coffee Shop on Victorian Avenue is owned by Anna and is a family owned and operated business. The food as well as the service was Five Star and the prices were very fair for the large amount of food you get on your plate. I see why there are so many Families and customers who keep coming back. I am now one of those customers. I had Eggs Benedict and my friend had the biggest Taco Salad ever!!! Had breakfast / lunch last week. Usually pretty good experience. I had Egg salad sandwich and cup of clam chowder. Egg salad was delicious as well as clam chowder. Chowder was not hot though, bread on sandwich was dry. My friend had chicken fried steak, had a strange flavor, almost liver like. The country gravy tasted like a water based product and was too thick and not hot. These were items that are easily remedied. More attention to detail would greatly help this restaurant. read more

In a world where kindness should exist and start with our parents, unfortunately, this restaurant is not a good role model for that. We were talking to the host to ask for a manager during a Saturday, early morning visit to the restaurant due to an allergic reaction to an order that was supposed to substitute food for another. We were rudely interrupted by a server, stating to the host that she should be seating people and they're getting backed up. At this time, our party explained that we needed to talk to a manager. Yet, she disputed saying we just need to talk to our server. We tried to explain our situation, stating what we said to the host, and we were rudely interrupted and that we don't need to be talking to the host. I, then, tried to ask if seating people or handling emergency situations are more important and that we need to talk to a manager. At this time, she dismissed us with a flick of her hand, and left our table, without hearing about our experience!!! She did not care about the safety and well-being of the people she served; she clearly showed us that she only cared about not getting backed up and to ensure the host seated people. Upon receiving our bill (since I needed to leave to take care of my allergic reaction to the food that was incorrectly made, checked, and serviced to me), our original server did take off the ordered food off the bill. The one who was at the cash register (who was also the host) apologized for the experience. When we asked for the name of the other server who spoke negatively to us when initially reporting an allergic reaction, the host stated it was her mom. That's when our party apologized to her. Regardless of the family ties, to us, the patrons, it appears that the server is dismissive and an authoritarian. No one in this world should be treating others the way that server treated her employee/daughter. Life is too short, already. With the immediate allergic reaction I had to the unsubstituted food, my life could've been cut short at that time. That other server did not care about me and my well-being, the host (her daughter) nor other patrons. What was shown to my table and those who were surrounding us, was her unkind behaviors towards her employees and her uncaring nature to the people who enter the restaurant. We hope she treats her daughter better at home. We hope, if she continues to work there, that she shows more empathy and kindness, especially to those who suffer with a medical problem. Please take this as a learning experience/review, Jack's Cafe. You have been a part of Sparks for a long time and wouldn't want it to close down due to unprofessional behavior from staff members or even owners. Jack's is one of our go-to breakfast establishments in Reno. On most weekends, we expect a wait but it's worth the wait. Excellent food, great service & very welcoming atmosphere. Most recently, we arrived at 10am on EASTER morning and fully expected to wait. We were seated immediately, we were in & out within 45 minutes on Easter morning. I am Happy to be trying yet another breakfast cafe while the kids are at Football practice. I walked in and the hostess sat me immediately. Quite a few people but not that busy. It is nostalgic for those that remember the old style Sambo's and Denny's. I do enjoy the old style. Though it was a little irritating that the booths are back to back, and I can feel every movement from the guy sitting behind me. Something I do remember from the past. She brought me coffee, and within two minutes, Amy, the waitress, stop by and asked if I was ready. So the service was fast and friendly. The Menu is a standard breakfast café menu, the prices are fairly decent. What I ordered: Eggs Benedict, country potatoes Coffee The breakfast arrived quickly, I'd say within 5 minutes. The eggs were perfect. I love seeing the egg yolk mix with the hollandaise sauce. The sauce was just ok. Not sure, but had the look and texture of package mix. I can't say for sure, but nothing special. After looking at many pictures on Yelp, I was excited to try the crunchy potatoes. They were not :( The orange color you see in the first photo was mostly spices. Almost no carmelization or browning. I pulled up a pic on Yelp and showed the waitress what I was expecting and she had no issue taking them back. Instantly I was brought some nicely browned potatoes. The coffee was just OK. A little weaker than I actually like. It was hot though, and I do enjoy hot coffee. I will definitely come back and try the burgers, however the eggs Benedict sauce did not stand out, the coffee was just OK, as well as the less than crunchy potatoes. read more

I really like Jack's and not for the reasons a lot of other people like it. Yes it's a nice, cozy breakfast/lunch spot that has been a sort of hidden gem of Sparks for decades. It has always had pretty great customer service and if someone from out of town wants a short list of food stops, this one invariably makes the list. But I digress. The reason I love Jacks so much is they remove the problem that I have when trying to go ANYWHERE for breakfast and that is because I can't eat chicken eggs. And when you don't eat eggs you run into a similar problem that vegans and veggies run into and that is most items on a breakfast menu have eggs in them. Usually I am reduced to ordering biscuits and gravy or just ordering sides. And yes, I realize most places can and will substitute but that's not the point. I hate being a special case and when I order off a menu, I don't want to be that guy who is replacing this with that. Jacks has a breakfast combo that has no eggs in it. FULL STOP. Just sausages, potatoes ,veggies and a great sauce. And it's the best damn breakfast thing on any menu in this town, in my opinion. But it's the opinion of a guy who gets sick when he smells eggs cooking so take that with a shakers worth of salt. And if you are cool with eggs, they got you covered there too. Back again for a Sunday breakfast. I had the ultimate omelette and the rest of the family had corned beef hash, nachos and the huevos rancheros. Fair warning - be prepared for leftovers! Decent breakfast fare at reasonable prices. I ordered one of their more popular dishes, the corned beef hash and a cup of coffee. The corned beef hash was a little underdone, but salty and tasty. Wheat toast was browned just right and I asked for my home fries cooked "well done" which they were. My eggs were cooked (over easy) just how I like them and the runny yolks paired well with the potatoes and meat, although the dish was a tad skimpy on the corned beef. Decent diner coffee as well. We decided to check this place out about 10 a.m. on a Sunday. It was pretty busy and there appeared to be a short wait. We saw a few seats at the counter which works well for the two of us so we sat there. We checked out the menu and had our order taken. My wife chose the works Belgium waffle with two strips of bacon and I decided to try their pastrami and swiss sandwich. Our orders arrived quickly especially for how busy it was and looked delicious. Overall it was a very good experience but I was disappointed to find mustard on my sandwich especially when there is no mention of mustard on the menu description. Very disappointed. I've been coming here for years. It's always been a favorite of mine and a place I would recommend. Not anymore. They have really gone down in the food department. It's horrible. I ordered the "Country Breakfast" (scrambled eggs, biscuit and gravy, home style fries and bacon). First, there wasn't enough gravy so it was very dry and pretty tasteless, but the worst was the bacon. It was under cooked and rubbery. I sent it back and asked for a well cooked, crisp bacon. I got the same thing, under cooked and rubbery. I dont believe it was real bacon. I wasn't charged for the bacon but it was a part of my meal so I found that disappointing. Shortly after leaving the restaurant I felt sick to my stomach. I won't go back and I do not recommend Jack's. read more

I finally came here after being told several times that it's an amazing restaurant. So, it's not horrible, but it's not "amazing" either. As far as brunch goes, the competition here in Reno is stacked up. Therefore, their food is pretty average with average prices. However, the portions are big. I did order the benedict when I went, and although tasty, nothing special. The potatoes were really good. The wait for the food was long and our waiter wasn't really paying us much attention. It is located in the Sparks area, across from Rail City and near a AMPM gas and service station. There is a parking lot in the back. As far as menu goes, they offer quite a wide range of options. If I lived close to it, I'd probably stop by again, but really, I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more
