Again breakfast for us here, actually this is our second day in a row. I decided on the breakfast special which is a bacon scramble, it was delicious! BF loves their pancakes with his omelet. Based on my last visit to Jack's Cafe in Sparks, I cannot recommend it because there are better options. I have visited Jack's several times in the past, and the experience was always ok. But on this last visit, not so. The service is still ok, but the food was subpar. We were a party of three, and all agreed that our dishes had problems, so the issue was not isolated only to my selection. I ordered a Jack's special consisting of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and pancake. The potatoes were very, very dry and tasteless, the pancake was over cooked, and the bacon was very hard. My daughter ordered an omelet, and she also commented that her potatoes were very, very dry. As for the omelet, she stated that the stuffing appeared as if it was scooped into the folded egg because it laid on top of the egg, as if the egg part was made separately from the other ingredients. Her husband ordered a waffle and right away noticed an odd flavor. My daughter and I sampled the waffle and agreed that it tasted like artificial sweetener was used. Jack's appears to be a local favorite, but base on my last experience, I don't see how. My recommendation is that you seek out a breakfast establishment that prepares its food better. read more

Never been - until today - went with three over-50 y/o others... based SOLEY on positive reviews. Quaint? yes, simple decor, yes, inviting - no, not really. Well, the reviews are misleading. Maybe different days have different results?? IDK. It was a pretty bad experience. Guess the owner has no pride... Old seating, hard, uncomfortable - needs reupholstering. Food not "bad"... but not really good. My grilled onions weren't grilled at all (90% raw)(main reason for ordering the sandwich I did), my poor potatoes were actually cold and rubbery. The general service was OK, the gentleman server was great. Bathrooms however, capped it for us: men's and women's rooms: disgusting and dirty and smelly... floor sticky. OMG!!! Sorry, but we don't understand how they remain in business. How do they get clearance from the health department???? Unfortunately, none of us will ever be back. Steak looks to be hand breaded and pan fried as opposed to the typical deep fried, machine breaded version you find in most places. Real potatoes and perfect over easy eggs. Wes topped at Jack's for lunch one day after going to the National Automobile Museum. This is a standard coffee shop place. It was a hot day and the AC was only marginally ok. The food we had was pretty good. I had a breakfast scramble that was great. My son also really loved the philly cheesesteak. The bacon cheeseburger was only ok and we were not fond of the french dip. The American bacon was good, which saved them from a lone star review. Eggs and potatoes mediocre . Seats were old and falling apart. Service was fine, but I thought it was weird how when I complained and wanted to swap out the cornbeef hash for bacon, the waitress made me return my hash on a plate, so they wouldn't make her charge me extra for the bacon. The price to quality ratio here is not right... you'd be better off going to a Dennys... There was a 20 minute wait for a party of 4 on a Sunday at 11am, understandable.. They don't take reservations and when we asked how long the wait was, the hostess shrugged her shoulders. They have signs everywhere stating they won't seat parties until everyone is present so when the other 2 in ours showed, we let the hostess know and her reply was, "and?" When we were seated, the chairs were sticky. Our server only came to the table twice, to take our order and to give us the check. We were ready to pay immediately after getting the check but after waiting 10 minutes in hopes for her come back to run our card, we ended up going to the bar to pay just so we could leave. The chocolate chip pancakes we ordered wans only a sprinkle of chips on top of a stack of pancakes. Came in today with it being a chilly day. Was sat by the door and every time the door opened a gush of cold came rolling in. There was a vent of some sort also throwing cold air constantly in our direction and right down the back of our shirts. The hostess that sat us was very friendly. The first older man that offered us coffee seemed to be very put out when I asked for hot tea. I say this because he came back slamming the cup and container holding the teas down on the table and then he hurried away very briskly. We had just been give our drinks when the waitress attempted to get our orders, but unfortunately we hadn't had the time to open up the menus yet. Our food arrived very hot and fast and was rather good. The waitress was not attentive and basically ignored our table while we were eating. One gentleman did come by and offer to refill the coffee, which was nice of him. As we were thinking that we were full and pushed our plates away, the waitress showed up and as she was grabbing our plates away asked if we were done. We were not offered to take our leftovers home and she hurried away with our plates so fast that even if we wanted to take it home it was too late, it was already gone. The nice gentleman came back around and offered another cup of coffee which was declined because we just wanted to finish up what we were already served. However, as we were finishing our drinks, the waitress was back at our table to demand we leave so she can seat other customers. It would've been nice to finish our drinks before being pushed out the door considering we both only had one cup full. They do have posted signs to limit your time because of Covid, but we were rushed through the entire meal and if they want you in and out in a half an hour then they should have that time frame posted so a person has a heads up to swallow without chewing. read more

Got most of our food and the waffle maker broke I really didn't mind but it was them beating around the bush and finally asking if the only person who didn't have there food wanted something else while we all ate our food. The owner accused us of just wanted free food I lost my appetite couldn't even finish my meal let all our food on the table and still paid for the whole meal! After trying to have brunch at another nearby restaurant which had a 30 minute wait, we decided to try this place. When we entered Jack's we were greeted and seated immediately. A fellow brought us coffee and menus within seconds. They have an extensive menu for breakfast and brunch, with American dishes as well as Mexican fare. I ordered the Huevos rancheros and ask for a side order of jalapeños. When my plate arrived, there were no jalapeños. I asked my server again if she could bring me a side order of jalapeños. Again, she did not. Finally, the young man refilling coffee cups walked by and I ask him for a side order of jalapeños. He asked if I would like them grilled or sliced, and I stated that either way would be fine. Within seconds I had my jalapeños! Thank you young man! The Huevos rancheros was all sweet, no heat! I do like a little heat with my meal! Actually, I like a lot of heat with my meal! This dish didn't really have a lot of flavor. It had some, just no pop! I suppose they have plenty of dishes that are spectacular, but unfortunately mine wasn't. I'm sure I will be back to try other dishes. On our way to Napa, we hopped off the freeway to find fuel & a bathroom, possibly lunch. This little café was just across the street from the gas station so it was as likely a spot as any. Walking in, I was reminded of innumerable greasy spoons I've dined in. I expected a limited menu and food that looked like the school lunch ladies dished it up from a can. Boy, was i pleasantly surprised when our selections were served. My hubby had a hearty bacon cheeseburger with homemade potato chips, They didn't skimp on the crisp lettuce, fresh slices of tomato and red onion., not to mention the delicious chips. I ordered the lunch version of country fried steak. If I remember correctly, the menu said it came with mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. The veggies were fresh grilled bell peppers, summer squash, mushrooms and onions- cooked to perfection. The pile of real smashed potatoes and gravy were just like Mom's and a nice salad to start. I only gave 4 stars because the steak was a bit tough and not a flavorful as most I've had. Also, in the restroom the toilets were fine- clean enough, but the doors and walls seemed pretty grungy, like they need a good spring cleaning. I put this joint on my "favorites" list so next time we're in Sparks we can stop and try it again. read more

Being that I'm not from Reno, I almost went to Denny's down the street because it was familiar. I'm really happy I didn't because I was pleasantly surprised with Jack's Cafe! Firstly, the portion sizes are HUGE. I actually sort of felt bad because I couldn't finish a lot of it. The service is very prompt and they are really welcoming. We went there for breakfast. I ordered eggs over medium. The 17 year old waiter set my plate down. My eggs looked barely cooked. I touched the egg with my fork and raw yolk spilled all over the plate. I called him over and I said I asked for eggs over medium these are sunny side up. He says No Ma'am they are over medium. I say can I speak to your manager. He says she is going to tell you the same thing. I am trying not to get angry. He goes to the manager they are all speaking in Spanish. They are discussing me for at least 5 minutes. She says to them watch how I handle this gringa. She steps over to the table and says what seems to be the problem. I say to her I speak Spanish and don't need to be handled today, but thanks. Just give us the check. I am paying for my esposo's breakfast. Outside there are big American flags on the windows. WARNING! Portions are LARGE. Order with caution. LOL! This place is awesome. We ate here during our visit to Reno at the Grand Sierra Resort. The wait time at the Resort Cafe was 30mins. Check this out. We left the resort at 9:40am. Then drove to Jack's, arrived, got seated, ordered, received our food, finished our meals, and then paid at 10:21am. A total of 41 minutes! We were on the road back home in no time! I had the Chicken Fried Steak with Eggs, Potatoes and Two Biscuits and Gravy. Wife had Chilaquiles and the kiddo had a cheese omelette with sausage on the side. None of us finished our meals (and I'm a big dude who never lets food go to waste). I took it to-go and finished it as soon as we got back to the Bay. Haha! The prices were very good too!! If you're looking for a good breakfast spot, our family highly recommends Jack's. Sure it's convenient to not leave your hotel for a meal but for better quality and a better price, isn't it really that inconvenient? This is a great spot. I visited Jack's cafe a couple of months ago. My family and I sat in a large booth next to the window in this older looking diner. We enjoyed watching the cars and people go by on a fresh, crisp morning. Our waitress was very friendly and didn't have us waiting too long before she was taking our order. She explained certain items to us on the menu, from her own personal experience. Once our order was placed, we sat back and laughed and talked. Before we knew it, our food was on the table. Good ol fashioned home comfort food. Chicken fried chicken with eggs, potatoes and biscuits, wow! No disappointment there. The biscuits and gravy looked so good, it's what I'm ordering on my next visit. With the restaurants being closed for dine in due to COVID19, I have chosen to stay home and cook some of my favorite dishes from my top 10 favorite establishments. Great vibe for a breakfast/lunch joint! Kid got the kid's pancake combo. A LOT of food for $5.99- two big pancakes, two big sausage links and an egg. He ate almost the entire thing! I didn't go with anything too exciting- just really felt like cream of wheat and it was warm and comforting and came with all the trimmings: milk, butter, brown sugar and raisins and she asked if I wanted anything else to add.
