I used to be a huge fan of the wet hen restaurant that was in this location. The new restaurant has a very similar menu with a little more Mexican flavors. I really enjoy the Al Pastor omelette it is fantastic. I've noticed that despite the great food and similar atmosphere the crowds here are much smaller than when it was the wet hen. Which is a shame because this is a great restaurant. The owner and staff super friendly. The food is excellent and the service is very fast. If you're looking for a small family café with a great menu for a quick lunch, definitely check this place out. read more

We were heading to the new Paris Bakery across the parking lot but it isn't open yet, so we popped into Fortis because I've been to the location once when it was the Chick or Hen or something --- big mistake! My wife and I split the corned beef hash and eggs. They say "homemade" hash ~ yeah right ~ something out of a can and flavorless. The potatoes were cardboard, and they were out of rye so I asked for a pancake ~ they didn't have sugar free syrup - overall a big yuck place. Dirty kitchen equipment piled up in the dining room, slime film on the tables, even the water tasted odd. We left most of everything and walked out ~ got home and made oatmeal. Walking in an hour before closing, we're were warmly greeted and told to sit wherever we'd like, quiet, cozy, almost date like! We had a catered meal for my fiancée and I to share! Add 2 over medium eggs to emulsify the sauce and egg yolk and boy oh boy are you in for a treat! Potatoes that were crispy and fluffy on the insides so texturally, you got it all! One sad note: the proprietor of the business, Mr. Fortino, recently under went surgery for stomach cancer. Anyone who's been a frequent customer at Fortis Cafe knows how wonderful and hard-working the husband and wife team that operates this establishment. Friends and family of Mr. Fortino has set up a GoFundMe page on his behalf to raise the funds for his surgery/hospitalization. He dropped by the restaurant, aided by his lovely wife although in a very limited capacity; he look so gaunt now and I just wanted to share this news with the other Yelpers in hopes that the Yelp Community could spread the word and help their business, i.e. Mr. Fortino. The restaurant was lightly busy; fortunately for our party of 4, there was a table in the middle of the restaurant that could accommodate us. The gentleman that took our order (Chuy according to another customer who called him by name), was pleasant. We ordered an al pastor Benedict, a club sandwich, a pancake combination plate, biscuit and gravy. The food arrived quickly; everything was hot, fresh and masterfully prepared. Visited Fortis Café for the first time last Sunday and being a former fan of the Wet Hen cafe was excited to try it. Unfortunately, this visit fell short in a lot of regards and we regretted the decision soon after the meals arrived. Both egg dishes were quite overcooked, the potatoes were stale and seemed like day or so old, they had a grayish color to them instead of white and tasted rewarmed, not fresh. My husband had the over easy eggs with bacon and home potatoes and there was nothing over easy about it , the eggs were more well done defeating the purpose. The bacon was plentiful on his plate and was the only good part of either meal. I had the sausage omelette it also was dryer amd overdone and the sausage was baked into the outside of the omelette and there was nothing on the inside. It was topped with some white cheese, which was fine, but it really wasn't very flavorful or good. The meals were a bit slow to come out and the restaurant wasn't overly busy but, the service was very attentive. Even the sourdough toast didn't taste overly fresh and was dry. This restaurant has a lot of unique dishes, such as Chilaquiles's, corned beef hash, corned beef omelettes, and perhaps it was just what we ordered this day, but the other meals looked similar that were coming out of the kitchen. read more

My friend and I went to Fortis Cafe for breakfast. We were seated right away and the vibe was relaxed and cozy. Just the right atmosphere for a good catch up session. I went with the Eggs Benedict with Bacon and Avocado. Wow, it didn't disappoint. The sauce was perfect, not too heavy, but creamy enough to really bring the whole dish together. Getting my car worked on across the street at DeVine Automotive (excellent trustworthy shop), and walked over here for breakfast. Wonderfully friendly couple greeted me right away, made suggestions for food and drink. Made small talk about other things, very welcoming. The marzipan cappuccino was delicious. I ordered the Spanish omelette, it was loaded with cheese and meat. The homemade verde was delicious, and the thick local sourdough bread awesome. I'm a sucker for thin sliced home fries and they were just right. I look forward to coming back here soon! One of the other perks was no music playing. Really cute family owned/operated business. Service very prompt and friendly. Coffee was fresh and strong which my husband loved and my hot tea was perfect. We had the stuffed French toast breakfast and the eggs Benedict with a couple of modifications which they were very helpful about. Portions are generous and everything was prepared beautifully. The sauce for the Benedict was a little different than traditional hollandaise but it was absolutely delicious-my husband was stealing it to get it on his potatoes! Location wise - you'd miss this cute little place if you're not looking for it! Located on the backside of the parking lot. Small and quaint, but they can accommodate large groups. They also have patio seating when it's warm enough. The staff were so friendly and welcoming! Very quick service. The menu is small, but they have a decent variety and various types of coffees. This was a nice little cafe. It was not super busy for being a weekend. I was a bit shocked, but it could be just early morning. I got the pastor omelet. I liked the pastor flavors and ate it with tortilla. The egg was super fluffy, but I didn't taste the pastor at first with the fluffiness blocking it's beautiful taste. I think next time I'll get the pastor plate so I cam have the eggs. Either way the omelet was good. Our kiddos got a pancake with eggs and sausage They shared it. I was with cousins and we had all stayed at the casino and they just wanted to eat there, rather than go elsewhere. My food looked pretty good, but not sure why I tried a dish with hollandaise sauce there. Though my cousins didn't seem thrilled with their choices either. One ordered a French Toast sandwich that came with eggs (he had fried) and bacon: the presentation was confusing as it was simply some French toast with eggs & bacon on the side. He checked with the waiter and he said, "yeah, you just put it together". On a late a Sunday morning I decided to try Fortis Cafe. It was about 10:30am when we walked in and the place was about 75% full so we were able to get a table right way. It's a small but cozy atmosphere. The menu prices appeared reasonable and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Denver omelet because I wanted something basic. The most disgusting breakfast I have ever ATTEMPTED to eat.. There was no one in the restaurant, and we waited 20 minutes for anyone to approach us. We received cold coffee that tasted days old.. When we finally received our food 45 minutes after arriving, the plates were dirty, and each plate had at-least an entire cup of grease coating everything.. before taking a bite, the employees did not realize that my boyfriend is is a Spanish speaker, and he overheard them arguing about the fact that they had given us two week old muffins for our Benedict. To give them the benefit, he tried a bite anyway, just to confirm that it was in fact, VERY expired bread tasting extremely 'sour'. Not one thing was even remotely safely edible. Owned by a couple that also has a restaurant in Genoa, they opened this breakfast and brunch restaurant after Wet Hen has left. And they've brought their own style of cooking. I had the Pastor Omelette, Mexican Quesadilla and Meat omelette and all were very flavorful yet still had that home cooked vibe. The omelets also came with a side of potatoes and toast, while my quesadilla had a side of salsa. I especially liked their salsa because it wasn't too sweet like many other places. The pastor omelette was unlike any I've tasted before because they will pack that meat generously into the omelet. It's obvious they don't skimp out on ingredients and it shows in their dishes. We have been here once before, but it was so busy, that we left and went somewhere else. We were finished with the DMV earlier than we thought so so we stopped by here as the ratings are really good. The eggs are too runny for me, and he says oh you should've asked for a hard poached egg, and I said no you just cook the egg so when I got my new order, there was no yolk. It was all hard and that's the best part of the egg Benedict. Now the sauce was delicious and the best hollandaise sauce I have ever had, but cook cook the egg. I make a perfect poached egg the whiter set and the yoke is runny so I don't know what he's talking about asked for well done, well it's not on your menu saying you're gonna get a partially raw egg. It wasn't very appetizing to look at when you cut into it, my husband was set a little more so he he ate his, but I didn't see his be so runny like mine. Yes, it took a longer time to get my food back, but cook the egg right the first place it's called cooking egg, not serve you a half poached egg that was not a poached egg. Don't miss this one. Fortina and his family make one of the BEST omelettes I have ever had. I sill stand on the peak of Mount Rose for all to hear! The Al Pastor Omelette is one of the beat breakfast dishes I have discovered in the last six years. Drop the salsa all over it to reach 110%. Coffee with cinnamon is great. The wet burrito is also high ranking. They still have many of the great breakfast entrees from the Wet Hen menu. I went six out of seven days and brought friends and coworkers in to try out the menu. We had come to this restaurant under it's previous name, so when it changed ownership we decided to come back and try out the new business. We ordered brunch for take out on the weekend. Aesthetic wise everything looks the same as it previously did. It's not a huge restaurant but can probably accommodate a couple of larger groups. The food was tasty overall, nothing to complain about but maybe also nothing that entirely knocked our socks off. But just a good standard breakfast option. Unfortunately they were having issues with their point of sale system while they were there and that was causing things to be a little backed up at the counter. The menu offers simple choices so choosing is not overwhelming for either breakfast or lunch. I ordered the Pastor Benedict: grilled English muffin topped with pastor, two poached eggs, and fresh Hollandaise sause, and served with home fries. Hubby ordered the stuffed French toast combo: two eggs, bacon or sausage (he got one of each), and home fries. The food took a bit of time, which felt longer because there was not any background music, and no other patrons in the restaurant. However, it was worth the wait because it was delicious. Our server was kind and on top of taking care of us. The receipt provided an option to pay via QR code with my phone, but then it didn't process properly, so I had to go pay at the register. And there is an upcharge for using a credit card instead of cash to pay. Overall, it was an okay dining experience. I would definitely consider coming back for the French toast after taking a bite from my hubby's plate. I would suggest it to friends looking for breakfast in that area of Reno. read more

It's only been open for five weeks, but the quality of the meals my colleagues and I had was truly top notch. As a former chef, there's something about the taste of the food that reflects the cleanliness of the kitchen and this place is clean! I had the Cobb Salad and it was amazing! Chicken was cooked fresh and the salad itself was delicious. My friend got the club sandwich and it was well made and tasty.
