We came with a group of 4 and were luckily able to snag a table outside on a busy Friday - bear in mind, seating is pretty limited given the foot traffic. I love clam chowder. Everyone knows when I travel to the East Coast, it's lobster rolls and clam chowder. It's tough for me to fight the urge for chowder when I see it in the menu. So you know, I'm on the hunt when I get to Washington for some good chowder. Now Pike's is its own little world. You go down some twist and turns, a few alleys, and eventually you'll find this place. It's a hole in the wall and the only reason you know it exists is the long line to order. Plus all the awards they win line the pillars and walls ;) There are four order sizes and you have the option to get the chowder in a sourdough bowl. I like the way they separates the chowder and bread when you get it to good. Theres tables there but there's general tables and chairs all over the place so get out and explore. I was tempted to get either a lobster or crab roll but I fought the urge. I needed casino money ;) Overall four stars. The chowder was good. I was disappointed with the meat cuts. The oyster cuts were really tiny and I couldn't really taste the crab (let alone see it) but it was good stick to the bones chowder. The queue moved quickly, and you're served right as you pay. Pike place chowder is one of my go tos when people are visiting. We love doing a pike place food tour and the chowder is always a stop! I like getting the 4 cup sampler so you can try all the top flavors (though my favorites are the smoked salmon and world's famous chowders). Personally I am not a fan of their other menu items like the fried calamari (which is something I usually love), so I usually stick to the chowders here. The pike place locations is usually pretty crowded and hard to find a spot to sit. A hack is to order online and pick it up from the back. You can then take it to the other side of the market where there is more seating, and enjoy it by the water :) read more

This place can get very busy! be prepared for a long wait! I ordered a Manhattan chowder and a New England chowder. Both were HOT and amazing. I also recommend the strawberry lemonade they make onsite. The only bummer they have here is the seating. It's difficult. Even for me. Came to try their famous chowder and got there at around 10:50 am. There was already a line that wrapped a little around the restaurant but the staff handed us menus to look over. Four 6 oz servings sampler - We wanted to try a variety of flavors to see which we enjoyed the most and got the New England Clam Chowder, Crab & Oyster Chowder, Seafood Bisque and Seared Scallop Chowder. My friend and I's favorite was the Crab & Oyster Chowder. It had some of the richest flavor from the crabmeat to the spicy chorizo sausage. We also really enjoyed the Seafood Bisque, it was rich in tomato flavor and the seafood medley were all tender. The other two were good as well but the original didn't stand out as much and the Seared Scallop had a little bit of an odd texture. It was a little too filling for 2 people to finish but was a pretty good deal to try four different flavors for 19.95. There was a line wrapped around the corner on a Monday afternoon, but they kept it moving at a good pace, so it didn't feel too bad. Service was friendly, but they kept you moving. I guess my only real gripe with this place would be the very limited and outdoor seating they have is not enough to accommodate a fraction of their customers. It was around 35 degrees when we were here and the thought of standing in a corner as foot traffic crosses about you while trying to eat wasn't too appealing. Luckily our hotel was literally a 5-minute walk away! We each ordered a medium Classic New England Clam Chowder bow each ($10.75). Each clam chowder bowl came with a piece of bread and a small packet of oyster crackers. After tax and tip, it landed somewhere between $26-$27. When we got back to the room, we discovered they had not included any plastic ware! Yikes! Luckily the hotel staff helped us out with that! Once we got all of that sorted out, I will say that the chowder was incredibly creamy and full of flavor! Absolutely delicious! I only wish I had had the opportunity to enjoy more before going home.
