A couple of Wednesdays ago, after work, I had an early dinner at this Pho Anh Vu on Highway 7 in Vaughan, between Keele and Jane streets. I have passed by this eatery a number of times since it opened. It was time to check it out. This location used to be Veg Italiano. There used to be a pho place a few doors down. It is now a Turkish eatery. This small plaza does have some turnover. However, the Turkish place and this eatery have been here for at least a couple of years. I hope they remain. I got here at around 3:30 pm. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I backed into a vacant one and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a male staffer. I got to sit wherever I wanted. I chose a booth by the window. I got menus to peruse. There were two other tables with customers. It was nice. Hot tea came to me with two cups. The hot tea was exceptionally piping hot. I used both cups to pour tea into them and let them cool. I was ready to order. It took a long time to get a server to come over. The woman at the counter noticed that I was ready and flagged the male server to take my order. I got these items: - Soda lemonade - Grilled chicken on vermicelli with spring rolls My soda lemonade came first. It was fizzy, cold, and refreshing. I loved it so much. I would get it again in a heartbeat. It also helped me down my food as I waited for my hot tea to cool down. When my tea was finally at a temperature that wouldn't scorch my tongue, it was fragrant and yummy. I loved the grilled chicken. It was flavourful and grilled to perfection. The vermicelli was generous and yummy. The spring rolls were stuffed and crispy. This dish came with dipping sauce that I ended up pouring on everything. I feel that I needed more of it. I paid at the counter with a debit card. I tapped and was good. This eatery got busy after 4 pm. My guess is that everyone came to watch the Canada-Switzerland FIFA game. It got tense in the place. Eventually, Canada lost this game. I used the washroom before I left. It was beautiful and clean. It's a decent location that serves good food. The tea was too hot. Service started off slow, but was a lot better once my order was place. I'd love to return to try more items off the menu. (280)

Large original Laksa was truly huge (the menu calls the beef version the authentic Malaysia version but it's the other way round). It used pho noodles not round rice noodles. The soup was pretty rich & decently umami with dried shrimp flavour. Fried tofu puffs were decent, fish cake & fish balls were tasty & springy. It was garnished with cilantro but no Laksa leaf (Vietnamese mint) as well as some crunchy bean sprouts (not in description). Fried wantons were fresh & crispy. The interior was bouncy & was a bit bland on its own but was highly elevated by the fish sauce. The pickles were fresh, moist, crisp & tasty & finely cut for a good mouth feel. The fish sauce dipping sauce was excellent.  Hu Tieu Nam Vang dry noodles were pretty tasty. The noodles just had beansprouts, peanuts & lettuce & were tossed in slightly sweet, soy based sauce. The soup was tasty with a lot of garlic chives & green onion. Fishballs were springy & there were pork slices, shrimp, minced pork & lettuce. The squid was tough.  Crab noodles had sweet & seafoody soup. It had crab balls, tofu puffs & springy Vietnamese spam, which were all tasty. Blood tofu was decent. Soft shell crab was good: not oily, crispy & not too wet inside.

The soup was well rounded, full of Crab flavor. The salt/sweet/sour/spice balance was on point. Essential ingredients like Crab meat ball, black pepper sausage, and blood pudding were all fresh. Satisfying, highly recommend! My hubby got combo set (Pho Tai, Nam & Goi Cuon Tom/fresh spring rolls) for $19. As usual, he asked his rare beef on the side so he can "cook" in the soup for his preferred done-ness. The arrived rare beef looked very fresh. The fresh rolls came as two but had a strange almost stinky smell which deduced to be coming from the chive/lemongrass garnish on the plate. The rolls are quite standard and is served with a peanut based sauce. The pho was a bit disappointing since it didn't feel like there was a whole lot of noodles, the beef was a bit overcooked (almost as if it wasn't rare went it was put in the bowl) and the broth was a bit bland and watery. DRINKS (4/5) As usual, we ordered two Viet Iced Coffees which is served as it is still dripping into a cup with condensed milk. Once finished you mix it yourself and add it to a cup filled with ice, which I've seen other restaurants do as well. The coffee wasn't as strong as other places imo but still good nonetheless. SERVICE (5/5) The staff was super helpful and friendly. The owner even came out and asked if we would like to experiment our viet iced coffees with coconut milk instead. They do accept Amex too! AMBIENCE (2.5/5) Feels super mom-and-pop/family-run which gives it a bit of a homier feel. But decor was definitely dated and the menus being taped under the table glass felt a bit strange. VALUE (3/5) Pricepoints are similar to other Vietnamese restaurants but I think the food here is supbar in terms of taste and a volume. ACCESSIBILITY (4.5/5) Located right at Warden and Eglinton, this plaza will be really easy to commute to once Line 5 opens up. There is a decent amount of parking although can be busy at peak times. OVERALL (2.5/5) I was hoping this local restaurant was going to amaze me but sadly left disappointed. I think there are better Viet restaurants out there but understandably there aren't as many options in this area. I think the biggest let down was the taste and quality of the food and it seems other Yelpers share a similar experience.

Pho - decided to try their "regular " pho which has a bit more herbal notes than their hotpot. It's not bad but I could see some of the herbal/spice undertones being off putting to some. Stret style platter - lots of good, great variety, very fresh. Loved this dish - getting to make your own customized roll is worth it. Durian crema coffee - an interesting that I've never seen. It's line a typical coffe but a large and thick layer of durian foam layer on top of the coffee. Price: A bit higher than other pho places but well worth trying

It was the perfect portion size for me, and I was able to bring some home to enjoy for another meal. I definitely plan on returning and trying new dishes, because there's soooo many good options to pick from. There is an hour seating limit as it gets quite busy, yet the busyness of the restaurant didn't make us feel cramped at all. It had a personal and homey feel to it with the walls covered in all sorts of drawings. Overall, this was a great experience! I'm looking forward to coming again.

Portions are reasonable and balanced, meaning that you're not getting a few slices of beef to a large amount of noodles. - Price wise, it's reasonable (though I wouldn't say it's the cheapest pho in the area, but the quality is there!). Note that they do have a 1hr seating time limit, which I appreciate because it probably helps shorten the wait time :)
