I really enjoyed my visit at this Vietnamese restaurant located in Chinatown. If you go there on a weekend, get there before 8 PM to beat the rush. Food was excellent and service was accommodating. I had beef rib pho and complimentary warm tea. The sauce to go with the beef rib was quite good. I got the rest of the pho to go, as it was a huge serving. It was a bit of a challenge trying to put the contents of the huge bowl into the takeout containers and I imagine other people have this same issue. Will definitely be back. Anh Dao located along Spadina Ave near Cecil St. (closest big intersection being College St.) serves up Vietnamese food in a casual space. They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. I'm back at Anh Dao, my absolute favourite pho spot downtown. I usually get the N13, the Bun Bo Hue, which is now the N12 since they revamped their menu (meaning price increases). At least this time around, they're giving out a plate of shrimp chips to each table, which is a nice addition. As for the food, my Bun Bo Hue did not disappoint. This place has been on my list for a while since I frequent the restaurant across this resto so often that I see it outside the window haha. I have been here a number of times now and I usually order the same thing (vermicelli with spring roll and grilled beef wrapped on betel leaf) Quality and quantity are very consistent. The only downside is that they take cash only. I do not normally eat Vietnamese food outside since I eat at home. I do recommend this as one of the places that I would go to for Vietnamese food though. The environment is like other Vietnamese restaurants but with a more upgraded version (great art)! read more

Extensive menu and cash only (ATM inside). We only had USD cash so I inquired if they accept and they said it's one for one. The exchange rate is $1.00 USD to $1.35 CAD so our $80 bill meant a $27 difference which ended up being a very generous tip. I ordered a vermicelli bowl with egg/spring roll and grilled pork and my dad, uncle, and cousin ordered rice plates. My vermicelli noodles were broken and seemed undercooked and dry that I didn't really enjoy the dish but it was a very generous portion. Being Vietnamese, I've had plenty of vermicelli bowls but this one missed the mark in terms of flavor. The others enjoyed did enjoy their rice dish and said it was the meat was flavorful. Coming here of course you have to try their speciality. I appreciate the construction they did, now it has air conditioning and the walls have beautiful art painted. This is my second time coming and we got the betel beef wrap leaf. It comes as a big platter with vermicelli, the beef and veggies. Everything was tasty and fresh. You wrap your own fresh rolls. It was delicious and very unique. Not something you can get at other Vietnamese restaurants. A small platter fed two people and we were super full. When we visited it on a Friday night, the place was really busy but we got seated pretty fast. I tried their house special pho and it was ok. The soup wasn't rich at all, and it really tasted like bland water with a bunch of seasoning. It's one of the most disappointing pho we had. The other thing was the restaurant's atmosphere didn't feel really welcoming. Once you get seated, the servers don't try to serve you. They come back in like 10 minutes or more to take your order. During our visit, one thing that really disappointed us was when the server took all the condiments away from our table to another table without really talking to us, and this is during when we were still eating. Anh Dao's recent decor update is really attention grabbing, from the street the green and pink signage really draws you in and the new murals on the walls is fun and welcoming. The restaurant is medium sized with small tables and maybe able to seat 30-40 people only so there is usually a wait when it is busy. But it is totally worth it. The service is great and attentive, all the staff seems to know Vietnamese too if that is preferred. Order: - Pho Ga - Sinh To Sau Rieng The Pho Ga was great, not too salty at all and just good broth and flavour from fresh ingredients. It was clean, light and there was lots of veggies to go with it. The noodles tasted fresh and texture was as expected. The condiments were great, especially the pickled chilis with garlic (I might have fished out all the garlic slices). The Sinh To Sau Rieng was not too sweet and the texture was sublime, they blended it perfectly to have a consistent smooth texture and the durian they used was fresh and naturally sweet. This is honestly a Toronto staple. They have been around since 1983, close to when my parents arrived to Canada from Vietnam. I brought my dad and mom to eat here recently and you know the food is good when your viet parents say it's good. Anh Dao is also very unique in comparison to other viet restaurants. Though they have common dishes like Pho and Bun Bo Hue, they have certain hard to find dishes like Banh Xeo and Bo La Lot. I highly recommend the Bo La Lot special, it comes with so many herbs and vegetables, something that you rarely see these days but is so common in Vietnam. Been wanting to check out Ahn Dao ever since I saw it on BlogTO so I brought my friends here for dinner. We all got pho and I got specifically the pho dac biet with the variety of beef. The broth was so flavourful and rich - slightly on the salty side but so warm and pleasant. There was so much soup and a lot of rice noodles too (to the point I could not finish it). There was enough meat for me. It came with the classic side of basil, bean sprouts, mint, red peppers, and saw leaf herbs. I put a bit of hoisin sauce and sriracha and it was delicious. I felt Ahn Dao has better pho than Pho Tien Thanh by a stretch. One of my friends had her first ever bowl of pho and she loved it so much! Even the tripe! He decided to try grilled lemongrass pork with banh hoi, and I ordered bun bo hue. Also, I got ca phe sua da, aka Vietnamese coffee. The pork egg rolls were fried perfectly and so meaty. My boyfriend said he never had egg rolls that like that and he was very pleased. My bun bo hue was so flavorful. A very good meal at a very good price. Being near Chinatown there are many affordable options, but if you're looking for some Vietnamese food this place is one of your best options. We went on Friday night, so it was pretty busy, but we were seated right away and our service throughout the whole night was great. We visited this spot as we were craving some pho after work, and a friend recommend us to try this place out. Upon arrival, the restaurant is quite packed and lucky for us we only had to wait ~10mins for a table. The restaurant has a variety of classic Vietnamese dishes and drinks. We tried: 1. Vermicelli Grilled Pork & Spring Roll This dish was served with its usual fixes - cucumber, peanuts, bean sprouts. We found the portion quite large, and the pork flavourful. 2. Chicken Pho This soup broth was flavourful and aromatic. It was a little bit on the saltier side but the fresh veggies helped balance it. We found the chicken pieces pretty tender pairing well with broth. This spot is a great place to get some traditional pho and Vietnamese cuisine dishes. The bbq grilled pork was sooooo nicely marinated and their portions are definitely more than what I anticipated for the price of $12. My mom was the one who actually requested we dine here since it was the one of the first places she knew of when she first immigrated here nearly 30 years ago. It was, of course a different experience but still an extremely pleasant one. I was expecting mismatched chairs and aunties behind the counter, but it was very vibrant with young staff and Pop Smoke playing. For a random Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant was very busy, with tables turning pretty rapidly. The food was great with lots of authentic flavour. The aroma from this place was crazy. It's one of those scents that's so strong that it leaves an indent in your memory (in a good way). We all know the price to go out for a meal in Toronto is absurd nowadays ($17-$19 for majority of plates), however the portions were large enough to take home leftovers. I knew I just couldn't leave Toronto without trying their pho. I don't have a refined taste for pho but I've tried a couple of pho in NYC, so I can base it on those experiences. I went here based on a friend's recommendation and although it didn't seem like one of those top pho places in Toronto - it was still good pho and I can even say it was better than most of the places that offer pho in NYC. It tasted like they actually put some effort into the pho broth unlike the watered-down stuff back in NYC. Of course, you can get really good pho in NYC (i.e. Madame Vo) but you'll be paying atleast 2X the price, so with that being said, this place offers good value for the quality! read more

Came here for dinner and everything was so fresh and delicious. The pho comes in one size and is very big! They're very generous with their noodles and beef. We got the shrimp and pork crepe and it was amazing! It comes super crispy and with lots of leafy herbs and lettuce wraps. Suggest cutting the crepe up and wrapping it in lettuce along with a bunch of the herbs. Add some sriracha for heat and dip in the fish sauce right before devouring it! We also got the betel leaf beef skewers (small sz comes with 8 pieces!) which comes with a large plate of rice paper to wrap them in. This was also delicious. The way you eat it is by wetting the rice paper wraps with some provided water, put a bunch of the leafy herbs provided, stick a piece of beef in there, wrap it up, dip it in the sauce, and enjoy! Lastly their avocado smoothie was really good! Very smooth, full of avocado flavour and butteriness without being overly sweet. Service was also very friendly. If your in the Spadina and College/Dundas area, there are a ton of choices to grab a quick serve lunch. Anh Dao has been on my list for a stop for while, and used Google maps to find it, as if you blink, you might miss the entrance. The chef/owner/server gestures to my table-for-one near the entrance. Unfortunately I got some unexpected visitors (flies) likely which came in through the door. But i5s an otherwise clean space where the cooking is done at the back so you know everything is fresh. As the reviews attest, this is a relatively basic, no frills approach to vietnamese dining experience. I'm more into the vermicelli (bun) noodles, dry with lemongrass chicken for $8.50. A very good deal with a side of hosein for an additional $.75. Overall, it was ok for the value. No frills, and no spring rolls or peanuts that I got used at other vietnamese places. This place is a hidden gem. I've tried several pho restaurants downtown and this one hits the spot. Went with a group of 4 and we ordered fried spring rolls, house special soup, durian, and their specialty betel beef wrap leaf. The spring rolls were alright. But everything else we ordered was just so delicious. My friends all ordered the durian shake too which they liked! The pho broth was tasty and aromatic. The meat was fresh and delicious. They put a generous amount of both noodles and meat. There's only one size for the pho and I couldn't finish it all. That's alright though because I had leftovers for later! The betel beef wrap leaf was soooo tasty and fresh. It looks like mini beef sausages and you wrap it in rice paper. Comes with lettuce, mints, and vermicelli. The special house sauce is pineapple based with some kind of fish sauce mixture. I found it refreshing and a nice change from the usual fish sauce. Good enough to make 10 wraps. I was set on visiting Beefing with 7 across the street, and decided to check Yelp to inspire me what to get there since I couldn't remember which dish I liked the best (many looks the same) and wanted the to replicate that first stellar experience. But someone said, "Oh there are better noodle shops around..." which piqued my interest so I read more of their reviews which included Anh Dao. I've tried a few Viet spots around chinatown and always open for more recos. First impression, once inside is that the place just had a recent covid makeover and looked fantastic! New flooring, polished concrete look for the walls and an impressive mural that extended the length of the dining room. I ordered one of my fave meals which is Bun with the crunchy fried pork rolls scattered on top, as well as the bbq pork. The bowl was huge and was one of those meals that makes eating later in the evening optional. I also ordered a Viet coffee with condensed milk which came pre-mixed and ready-to-drink. The bun was very good, and nicely layered with the meat and greens on top, then the vermicelli and the bean sprouts on the bottom. A small bowl of the usual dressing accompanied the Bun. Unfortunately, I could have used more of that dressing as the bowl ended up slightly dry by the finish. The other thing that was a miss here are the condiments typical of Viet restos. Similar to eating ramen dining-in where they let you stare at those interesting and sometimes exotic jars and shakers of garlic powder and salts, when I have Viet food I like having extra stuff like the lime, basil leaves and chili peppers around. OK, I do realize that's a Pho thing but if they knew how much I like them... and I needed to ask for hot sauce. Yes I realize that I can ask and get this stuff, but I tend to get half way through my meal as I'm hungry before I realize these things are important and then I get all panicky. Not cool.
