Vegan Dry Pho
Matt B.

We only ended up eating here because there is a place called "Chay Viet Vegetarian" listed on GoogleMaps (which doesn't exist) and it was late, so we tried out their vegan options, which were only average. We started with their Garlic Scallion Tofu ($11.95), which was just deep fried tofu with some cut up scallions and garlic -- very oily. I got their Vegan Pho ($18.95) and my wife got their Vegan Dry Pho ($19.95). The pho was alright - packed to the brim with medium-width noodles that weren't quite cooked enough, veggie ham, and a few pieces of bok choy, leaving little room to enjoy the decent broth. My wife liked her dry pho more. Good service but not happy that we were basically resigned to eat here after the deceptive advertising. If looking for vegan Vietnamese, there are lots of all-vegetarian places nearby. Support them instead.

Viet Coffee

Stopped by for lunch and got the combo (main, appetizer, drink) and thought it was a good deal. I got the Hoi An chicken rice, mango salad and Vietnamese coffee. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and pretty tender on the inside. The mango salad had a nice kick. The coffee was standard sweet. Service is a bit lacking - my friend ordered a combo as well and they literally got her drink, appetizer, and main wrong (though corrected the errors of course). Space is well laid out and decorated. Prices are what prices are these days. Overall, a pretty good Thai spot in the area and worth a visit.

This place has some fun vibes! It's connected to Bar Dem, so you can kind of imagine the style here. The waiters are attentive and service was pretty quick. I liked their dishes, a bit salty but very flavourful! The Beef Pho came with a big bone that had very tender meats; the Photine was poutine but with pho broth gravy was yum; Stir Fried Steaks had a lot of wok hei; The Sticky Rice cocktail was sweet and fragrant; Forgot what the other cocktail is called, but it has pho broth spices, good drinks!

Nice little quaint spot in Toronto Chinatown. It is not a traditional, authentic Vietnamese restaurant so do not expect that. It is a Canadian Vietnamese fusion place with unique dishes. I ordered the Beef Pho which was extremely light and not much flavor. Sadly the Chicken pho was not that good. The Beef bun noodle was definitely the most flavorful. I also ordered a blue orchid cocktail which was not alcoholic at all and had a nice fruity sweet taste.

Had a great time here for their happy hour, which runs daily from 3 till 6 PM daily. Grab a bunch of drinks and snacks at the bar, as the restaurant was surprisingly full on a Thursday night. Service was a little slow to start as there was only one server for the whole restaurant until 530, but he kept things running on his own as best as he can. We got our orders in before happy hour ended, so we were happy to wait. Things ran much smoother when the second helping hand showed up. Would definitely recommend the chicken slaw and the fries spring rolls. Great atmosphere under the blue neon lights and red lanterns.

The look of this place is very neat. I love the lamps! It was realllly chilly though so I'm hoping it just the change of season. But maybe bring layers for the winter. The menu has so many great options. Some fun fusion items. Our server was friendly. The mango salad was really flavourful and I loved the crispy garnish. The fresh spring rolls were also tasty. For me I think the chicken noodle bowl was the winner. The chicken had such nice flavour and was so tender.

Colourful grilled beef bun

A couple friends and I met up for dinner after work, kicking off the weekend. My friend suggested this DT Viet place, cause she knows I am a fan of Viet food. The restaurant is located across the street from the AGO and about 10min walk from St Patrick station. Walking in I like the rustic ambiance with the concrete flooring and colourful decorations. I ordered the Grilled Beef Bun, which is usually my go to when trying out a new Viet restaurant. I must say it is the most colourful Bun i ever had, capped off with a green spring roll was the feather on the cap. The bun itself was well made and the beef had good flavour. The fried shallots were a nice touch and gave the dish a nice crunchy note. I did enjoy the Bun overall, but not blown away and get ready to pay dt pricing. *3.5

Sriracha Mayo Fries & Garlic Scallion Tofu
Brittany A.

Restaurant has a nice vibe, good music, great service & cool decor but the food simply wasn't good. We ordered everything from the happy hour menu. Chicken viet tacos seemed over cooked/dry, garlic scallion tofu was fried hard/dry and neither had much flavor. Sriracha mayo fries were just basic unseasoned fries w/sriracha mayo on the side. We asked for salt & pepper & the bartender said they didn't have any shakers but was nice enough to bring both out in sauce cups.

Pho poutine

We came here for their happy hour which is from 3-5 I believe. Excellent vibes and beautiful restaurant right across from the AGO. Stand out was definitely the pho poutine as it was very unique and actually surprisingly good af. Would come back again just to get it. We did not get their pho but just by looking at other people's options tables it seemed quite small so not sure if I would try it for the price. All in all a solid spot for drinks and apps.

Beer and goi ga viet slaw

Very close to U of Toronto. Passed by and tried. I ordered beer and goi ga viet slaw. Both are good. If you can wait until 3-6, they have happy hour $6 beer only.

I've been a long time fan of the cocktails @dzo_vieteatery but am lately obsessed with their lemongrass beef balls brunch menu item. I liked that the beef balls, baguette and pickled veggies are served separately so I could have the right amount of everything in each bite, without making the bread all soggy! #dzovieteatery #vietnamesefood .

Rating based solely on the dry pho beef noodles and the vibes ! I love it so much . The soup on the side kept me wanting more ! The noodle dish on its own also had flavour so you can enjoy the noodles both with/ without dipping the noodles . The beef basically tasted like the same in the vermicelli bowl ! The decor is simply magical ! Love the lantern /Asia feel to the restaurant . Some not so positive points- the seats are so uncomfortable. Very hard and hurts the bum:( Table size is also very small and the chairs have no place to hang your purse or put it behind since it is not a full back chair. Unfortunately it was raining that day and we forced to either put our purse on our laps or ground. I tried my friend's chicken in the vermicelli and it was really dry . Also tried the Bo lot at Viet festival last year at Dundas Square and it was just regular ie would not get it again

Happy hour foooods

I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

I tried to finish the broth because it was so good. I would have given that first bowl 4 stars! Today was terrible! It just felt like a super water-downed broth that I didn't want to drink. Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to. It was disappointing for a bowl of $21 + tax noodle that was just pretty bland tonight even though it looked the part.... Sigh 2 stars today but couldn't average it out to 3 because now I remembered the spring rolls from the first visit were soggy Yes they are friendly but don't know if it's a place you should come before 7pm to catch the good broth?

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle. Service was good, especially for an Asian place.

So, please keep this place to yourself as I would hate to line up the next time I come.
