This is a new upscale Vietnamese restaurant in the Toronto downtown core. Tre means bamboo in Vietnamese. They want to elegantly show 4000 years of Vietnamese heritage and culture to the world. The chefs are from Hanoi. They use high-quality ingredients, making the food explode in natural flavours. They are currently in pre soft-opening. During the soft-opening period, starting 2026-03-20, every guest gets a complimentary drink. There is a soft-opening 3-course set menu ($45). In every menu category, they have at least one dish that is vegan. We ordered the following: 1. Coconut Avocado Smoothie ($11). 2. Grilled Shrimp Mango Salad ($18). 3. Fresh Avocado Spring Rolls ($13). 4. Hanoi Beef Noodle Soup (small $19). 5. Imperial Lotus Seed & Mung Bean Sweet Soup ($9). The customer service was very good. The Hanoi Pho broth uses Sa Sung (dried peanut worms, also known as the "ginseng of the sea"), which is a Vietnamese sea worm, which produces deep umami flavour, a deep savory-sweetness. This pho is from Hanoi (North Vietnam), and using Sa Sung is the traditional way of making pho broth very fragrant. This pho was once reserved for royal feasts. I can definitely attest to that amazing flavour. Premium meats are used in their amazing Hanoi Pho. I could tell the meats were very good quality. I had a Grilled Shrimp Mango Salad. Only when you use premium-quality shrimp, do you get the deep red colour when perfected grilled. The mango strips were wonderful, accompanied by a nice sauce. This is a South Vietnam dish. The Avocado Spring Rolls had very fresh avocado. It came with a tangy dip. This is a South Vietnam dish. The Sweet Soup, a dessert, can be eaten chilled or warmed; I had it chilled. You have to pour the coconut sauce on it to balance out the flavour. There were so many ingredients: lotus seeds, mung beans, coconut tapioca, shredded coconut, and some kind of mochi with coconut chunks inside. Very nice dessert! The restaurant is on the second floor of a building with 15 steps to go up. Unfortunately this old building does not have an elevator. The owner is a designer and photographer, so he spared no expense in designing an upscale contemporary restaurant with fine attention to details. The walls (including the stairwell walls) are lined with real bamboo stalks, with more than 10,000 of them! All bamboo are shipped from Vietnam and are natural. The bamboo notches show a representation of musical notes, when lit from under, rendering a symphony! This may be the only place to ever make entire walls of bamboo cut in half along the length! The ceilings have hanging bamboo pieces which look like hollow tubes. Even the table napkin is folded to mimic the striations of bamboo. There is easy-listening song and piano music playing in the background. There is a grand piano at one end of the dining area. They plan to have a live pianist on Fri and Sat evenings, hopefully by grand opening time. There is a full bar. Unfortunately the liquor license is delayed. The kitchen is on the third floor. At each table, there is a little Vietnamese ornament, along with a "passport". The pages inside describe each dish in greater detail, beyond the traditional list of ingredients found in menus. Each table also has a figurine and an info card describing it. All the dishes and bowls ceramics are made in Bat Trang village which is very famous for high quality ceramics. Some paintings are from Dong Ho village, famous for their woodcut folk painting. They are a treasured expression of Vietnamese rural life, created through traditional woodblock printing on natural do paper. They remain a lasting emblem of Vietnam's cultural heritage. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking and several paid parking lots nearby. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. There are two gender-neutral washrooms and they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking and paid parking lots nearby. Review 2026-048

Toronto has no shortage of great Vietnamese food, and this spot is a strong addition to the list! The ambiance is warm, elegant and thoughtfully designed, perfect for a date or a nice dinner. I loved the attention to detail, from the bamboo imprinted stone walls imported from Vietnam to the "passport" at each table that explains the regional origins of each dish. I visited during their soft opening and got 10% off plus a complimentary drink. I tried both the salted coffee and coconut coffee. The salted coffee was rich and caramel-like, almost like a dessert, while the coconut coffee had a nice flavour without being too heavy! Everything we tried was delicious. Standouts were the Hanoi spring rolls with a super flavourful filling and light crispy exterior, and the fish sauce wings which were perfectly sticky, sweet, and tangy. For the wings, I chose the sticky rice on the side and would recommend it. The bun bo hue was more on the lemongrassy side (which isn't a bad thing, I still enjoyed it!), but I preferred the pho (so hearty and flavourful). We also tried the tofu vermicelli platter with shrimp paste, which I ended up really liking. The owner warned us that the shrimp paste was an acquired taste but we all thought it worked perfectly with all of the platter's elements! The cubed vermicelli had a great texture and I've never had anything like it before. The ment actually isn't too pricey, especially considering the overall vibe & the quality of the food! The portions are also quite large, we took home a lot of leftovers. I really want to come back to try the pork belly com tam!

I stopped by today to check out their soft opening, which runs until April 20th. They're currently offering 10% off the bill and a complimentary drink for every guest the cream top coffee and orange infused peach tea were super yummy. As for the food, the Pho was a standout, the broth was light and flavorful without that heavy MSG aftertaste. My only regret was not ordering the large! The grilled pork Banh Mi was juicy and served on a perfectly light bun, and the pineapple fried rice was loaded with seafood. While the flavors were lovely, the portions I felt could've been a bit bigger. The interior is stunning, especially with the table lighting, and the food passport (show you an in-depth description of what dish is), which is a unique touch. The only thing was, the service was quite slow waited about 20 minutes for drinks and 30 minutes for food, eventually having to follow up with the staff. It's definitely a more upscale spot, and the prices reflect that, but it's a beautiful space. During lunch today they had some live music (a pianist).

The food is excellent but the service in the soft opening is a complete miss right now and I hope they address this or the business won't work. It's a fundamental issue in how they interpret procedure rather than simply hiring more help. It's the concept of how a properly running restaurant should look. This rating is strictly for the food alone and ignores service as the food is excellent and I hope the business succeeds. Pho is amazing with excellent light broth. Carpaccio is great. Fresh spring rolls were good and so was the home made peanut sauce. Beef bone and marrow were good too. The salted creme and coconut coffees were also amazing. One of the best tasting Viet restaurants in the city Now for the bad. The service is a miss in terms of how they envision a restaurant to operate. I had to ask for plates, water for the table, and cutlery twice. And sometimes the waiter would be doing other things rather than getting me what I asked for and then come by later to drop off what I asked for. They serve the food first without plates and then the time it takes to bring the plate out (which I had to ask twice) would be over 5 mins and the same server is helping other tables. When a guest gets seated, table water should be the FIRST thing offered. I sat down waiting for my guest to arrive, a good 10 mins and no table after. After my guest arrived, I had to ask twice for table water and the owner told us they serve this when they serve the food items. No. Don't do that. No restaurant does this. They drop water off first and then you order your meal. There is a lot of small nuances that needs to be fixed but it is easily fixable. If I had to rate the service included in my overall, this would be a 2-3 star review but because its a soft opening I want to ignore that service for now.

This review is based on my experience on March 20th, 2026 during their soft opening. Your experience maybe different during the grand opening. Decided to try out the new atas place nearby Eaton Centre serving Vietnamese cuisine. The waiters and waitresses promptly greeted me at the door on the 2nd floor. They proceeded to guide me to my table and introduced me to a wide selection of foods and drinks. There is a soft opening discount currently going on. Im not sure how long this will go on for. I ordered the tasting menu to get a bit of everything. The food took a bit of time but arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The appetizer consisted of a salad, spring rolls and fresh rolls. The main dish depending on what you choose, you can get pho, a rice dish, etc. I decided to try the classic pho dish. The broth as I was told by the manager was brew for 24 hours and using ingredients that some pho stores cut out due to cost. I'm not sure how true that is but the broth was definitely clear and excellent. The last time to arrive was the classic Vietnamese dessert. I forgot what it was called but it was served with coconut milk, Pandan, and some other ingredients. The taste overall was not too sweet. Will return in the future to try other items.

Food was excellent and service was accommodating. I had beef rib pho and complimentary warm tea. The sauce to go with the beef rib was quite good. I got the rest of the pho to go, as it was a huge serving. It was a bit of a challenge trying to put the contents of the huge bowl into the takeout containers and I imagine other people have this same issue. Will definitely be back. Next time I'd like to try their banh xeo and com sườn bì chả.

They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

I tried to finish the broth because it was so good. I would have given that first bowl 4 stars! Today was terrible! It just felt like a super water-downed broth that I didn't want to drink. Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to. It was disappointing for a bowl of $21 + tax noodle that was just pretty bland tonight even though it looked the part.... Sigh 2 stars today but couldn't average it out to 3 because now I remembered the spring rolls from the first visit were soggy Yes they are friendly but don't know if it's a place you should come before 7pm to catch the good broth?

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle.
