Steamed Vermicelli with Grilled Meat and Shrimp
Iris X.

Pho Le was exactly the kind of comforting, home-cooked meal I needed. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with pork, shrimp, and cha gio, and everything was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying at a really reasonable price. I do wish the portion had a little more vermicelli noodles, but overall I left happy and full. Also a huge plus that they're open until 10, definitely appreciated for a later dinner spot. Service was fast and everyone was very welcoming and professional.

Great ambience and very friendly family vibes! Food is fresh and home cooked. I always crave this cuisine when I am missing Los Angeles. Fast service and very open and welcoming staff. Food was very comforting.

Being from Honolulu, Hawaii, I'm particular about Asian cuisine. We were interested in finding pho with the best tasty broth. I think we found it! Their beef noodle soup combining thin sliced rare eye round, well done flank, brisket, tendon and tripe is phenomenal. If you are brave to try this combination bowl, order the extra large size. Best value to fill your appetite. Service and atmosphere is great and relaxing. Best decision on a pho bowl ever!

Rice Chowder

We originally went for pho but quickly discovered they also offer Beef Seven Ways. Don't be intimidated--this authentic dish is unique, interactive, and a fun meal to share with family and friends. One order was plenty for three adults. As the name suggests, the beef is prepared seven different ways, each with its own distinct flavor. You hand-roll the cooked meats (except the soup) in thin rice paper along with a variety of fresh vegetables. Then you dip each roll into the sauce and enjoy. The rice paper adds a bit of a challenge--once you dip it in water to soften, it becomes very delicate and sticky, but that's part of the fun. Two of the beef preparations are cooked tableside in a hotpot, with our waitress helping guide the process. Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope you give it a try.

The service is really good here and the ambiance is a quiet, which is nice because it's relaxing and you can have a conservations with people without shouting. I've been going here for a while and always enjoyed the people working here. Banh Bot Loc is pretty good here, but the pho is okay. The broth was a bit sweeter for me and I had to put seasoning to make it more flavorful. Although, the meat, noodles, and veggies were great and had no complaints for that portion. I come back if I'm in the area!

#20 small pho + crispy chicken wings

Ambiance: Very casual restaurant with tons of seating! Walked in without a reservation and had no problem getting a seat right away. Service: Our waiter picked our appetizer of wings for us when we were struggling to decide what to get, which was helpful! Servers didn't come back to check in or fill water at all during the dinner. Food: -Pho, 6.8/10: Not bad, not great. Just your standard pho. Meat was good with the chili oil they had on the side! -Crispy Wings, 9.8/10: SO good. The crisp of the wings was immaculate, oily enough so it wasn't dry but not so much that it felt heavy. Sauce was some sort of Asian flavor, was sweet and salty in all the right ways.

Phở Rau Cải

I was really excited to try pho in Dorchester, at the center of Boston's Vietnamese community. It was interesting to be part of the lunch rush among other workers. It's casual, no-frills service that emphasizes speed over niceties, like a plastic divider between tables to maximize seating. The staff were on it when it came to taking my order, and my bowl of Phở Rau Cải was extremely quick to come out. While there isn't meat in the bowl as served, the menu does specify that it's made with chicken or beef broth (as opposed to the other vegetarian pho option, which is made with vegetarian broth). The meat-based broth is supposed to make the dish more flavorful, which I'll admit actually wasn't readily apparent. I ordered the small size, which was a pretty decent portion size and filled me up for lunch, but I wish there had been more flavor in it. On the other hand, it was pretty cheap (might be comparable to similar restaurants in Dorchester, but much less expensive than any lunchtime spots in downtown Boston)!

Food was good, but our experience was soured by the rude and uncouth wait staff. I don't usually leave bad reviews unless the situation is egregious or the food is abysmal, but this left a bad taste in our mouth. After seating, no one bothered to hand us cutlery/chopsticks even after food arrived, we had to ask twice before they deigned to give us chopsticks. Had to ask them twice before they refilled water. Left a 15% tip and the server almost accosted us on the way out and in a matter-of-fact voice said 18% was mandatory. The worst part? The 15-18% difference was literally $1.50. Not going back to Pho Le ever again, especially since there are comparable Vietnamese restaurants in Dorchester and Allston.

Phở Đặc Biệt*

As one of the most famous restaurants in Dorchester, the "Boston Little Saigon", of course it would serve authentic and affordable Vietnamese cuisine attractive to both local immigrants and Cantonese in the Chinatown nearby. Phở Ðặc Biệt: It felt great to escape from super sweet MSG broth in those American-Vietnamese pho places. The broth was authentic, more on the savory and umami side, with the strong fragrance of Thai basil; the flat rice noodles were smooth yet bouncy. However, the beef was somehow overcooked and tough. Another suggestion is to change a bigger bowl that all ingredients can easily go in and contribute the flavor, while the bean sprouts can soak heat from the soup to remove their herby taste. Nha Trang Rolls: The most al dente, and first ham rice paper rolls I have ever had. You shall know directly from the picture that how thin, transparent and smooth the skin was. The Vietnamese grilled ham was tender and full of smoky and meaty fragrance, while greens and herbs inside removed the greasiness. What most surprising was the Nem Nướng sauce, reputedly made mainly by fermented soybeans, peanuts, garlics, fish sauce and shrimp paste, and even pork or livers in some versions. Its texture was warm, thick and smooth, with some diced sun-dried shrimps inside, and the flavor was extremely rich and umami, somehow similar to the combination of abalone sauce鮑汁 and XO sauce in Canton. As a Cantonese, I couldn't help to scoop out and drink all the sauce after finishing the rolls. Instead of the common ones with shrimps and sweet-spicy dipping sauce, this dish really broadened my horizon on Vietnamese rice rolls. I really appreciate this experience and my coincidental wander into Dorchester.

Tried the bún đậu mắm tôm here and it was so good! They eat it a bit differently than I'm used to, but however you eat it, the flavors really come through. The bún măng vịt was also delicious -- the broth had great depth. Service is quick and super friendly

I order a pick up order; hot and sour soup / cảnh chua and a side of white rice. The cost? $45usd I walked into the restaurant and there was one guy cleaning tables that greeted me and sent me to the front host area. As I stood there, I notice the table to the left by the washrooms; 4 people sitting there playing a card game while gambling with actual real money. They made me wait for a couple of minutes. The guy gave me my food and walked right back to the table to gamble some more while I signed my receipt. No thank you for the purchase, no good bye, no nothing. Just went back to gambling. Food was horrible, was suppose to be hot and sour; but all I tasted was sweetness. Horrible experience since the last time I went 3 years ago, and now I remember why.

Pho Le is a great place to go for traditional Vietnamese food. A must try dish I recommend getting is their catfish! Cannot go wrong with their clay pot catfish or their grilled catfish wraps (DIY). Definitely call for the catfish because it takes 45 min to an hour for the catfish to be ready. It had been a couple months since I last visited but Pho Le is always pretty consistent. I love getting Bánh Bột Lọc, nem nuong spring rolls. & Banh xeo. Honestly you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu here.

Phở Pasteur is a classic Vietnamese restaurant that focuses on traditional comfort dishes,…read moreespecially pho and other noodle soups. We walked into a casual, straightforward space that makes it the type of place you stop by for a quick, warm meal rather than a long dining experience. The atmosphere is nice with a busy, fast-paced energy that fits the style of food being served. The menu covers many Vietnamese staples, including different styles of pho, bun bo hue, rice dishes, and vermicelli bowls, giving plenty of options depending on what you are craving. The main draw here is the pho, but it landed a bit differently than expected. The broth had a lighter profile compared to other pho spots, with less of that deep, aromatic richness that usually makes the dish stand out. It was still enjoyable as a warm noodle soup, but the flavor felt a little more muted and did not have the same depth as some other Vietnamese restaurants nearby. The beef quality was solid, and the portions of noodles and meat were reasonable, but the broth is the part that makes the biggest difference in pho, and here it leaned more subtle than bold. Beyond pho, the menu offers a good selection of other Vietnamese dishes. The bun bo hue is a nice option if you prefer something with more spice and stronger flavors, while the rice and vermicelli dishes provide alternatives to the usual noodle soup. The restaurant also offers familiar sides and drinks like Thai iced tea, which pair naturally with the meal. Service is generally quick and the restaurant has a busy, efficient style, especially during peak hours. The staff handles the steady flow of customers well, and the food comes out without much delay. The location makes it convenient for a casual meal, but the fast pace can sometimes make the experience feel a little rushed. Prices are also a bit higher compared to some other Vietnamese restaurants, especially considering the portion size and the lighter broth profile, which may not feel like the best value for what you get. Phở Pasteur is a convenient option for Vietnamese food in the area, especially if you are looking for a quick bowl of pho. The food is solid, but compared to other pho spots, the lighter broth and higher pricing make it harder to stand out. It works well for a casual meal, though there are other places nearby that offer a more memorable pho experience. For a straightforward, no-fuss stop when you are in the neighborhood, it fills the gap, but it does not quite reach the level of a destination pho spot.

Vietnamese cuisine is traditionally rooted in affordability, sharing an abundance of food, and enjoying good laughs with great company. By trying to force the concept into a high-end parallel, it just ends up feeling mediocre and hollow. The value simply isn't there--a single appetizer, one main entree, and three refreshments came out to a whopping $105. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly judgmental. Because our party of three only ordered that amount, the staff pretty much ignored us for the rest of the night after taking the order. The awkwardness started the absolute second we sat down. Before we could even settle into our chairs or get handed a menu, the waiter demanded to know what we wanted to drink. When we asked to see a menu first, he looked completely confused as to why we'd need one. After another staff member finally took our order, we sat there waiting for what felt like an eternity. When the food eventually arrived, they gave us sharing plates and chopsticks. We asked for a spoon to properly eat the claypot rice, and the waiter gave us another judging look. As Asians, we obviously know how to use chopsticks, but you objectively need a spoon to scoop the claypot SAUCE out of the pot! While the food itself is decent, the cramped atmosphere, poor hospitality, and inflated price tag mean I won't be rushing back.
