The pick up service is pretty fast and efficient. The food is very good. I think they make some of the best spring rolls in the city! They are always fresh and tasty. Sunday late night dinner review: This place had a lot of potential it seems but so many things went wrong. Parking was extremely annoying to find, it was very hot inside because the AC seemed to not be running that much, nobody was there to seat us for awhile, we didn't receive chopsticks (cmon, we're asians coming to eat pho), we settled for water for our drinks and got kirkland water bottles that we had to pay $1.50 for LOL, our 12 dollar "small" pho bowls were probably one of the smallest I've even from. While I can't speak to flavor, they were significantly narrower than I'm used to. When I broke one open, the inside was about half dough, so there's very little filling. Pho Ga (chicken pho): (if you can even call it that) It was in a broth that was probably just unaltered chicken broth from the local supermarket. Ga Chien Xa Ot (lemongrass chicken): the chicken was dry, flavor was lacking. Pork Banh Mi: the bread was wrong (was on generic hoagie roll, not a vietnamese baguette, so there was no crunch). I have tried New Saigon and it was decent so I wanted to try the original location (at least what I was told) The menu is on a table in the front so you look at it when you come in. Try to remember what you want to order later. No menus were given at the table or QR codes. Food: menu is in English only. Not in vietnamese and english. The menu is also quite small. Combination pho: was good. The broth was flavorful. What I expected in a good pho. Banh Mi: is not really your typical Vietnamese baguette. It's basically a small sandwich so honestly I don't think this should be listed under "banh mi". At 7.50 for this sandwich, it doesn't have pate spread in it either. You have the option of tofu, beef, chicken. Looking for typical cold cut? Not here. Overpriced for what it is. Taste wise? Eh. I wouldn't re order. Thai tea: 2$ and was what it was priced at. It was overly sweet. Ambiance: pretty dead. Small location with only a few tables. Good place for a quick pho if you are in the area and don't feel like travelling. A little expensive (it seemed like they charged me more than the menu prices for each item) but the food we got for takeout was soooo delicious. We got their fresh spring rolls, vermicilli bowl with grilled pork, fried eggs rolls, and shrimp paste, as well as their crispy salted squid and let me tell you, that squid was probably the best squid I've ever had. It wasn't exactly crispy after we'd brought it home, but the seasoning and flavor and freshness of the squid was out of this world. Their bun cha (vermicelli dish) was also flavorful and delicious. I also tried their avocado smoothie with boba and it was yummy - really creamy and sweet. I get that it's a small joint that's been in the neighborhood awhile, but when the ground is all torn up and I can see buckets covered with plastic wrap with rainwater dripping in it...I can't help but be wary. My dish was delicious, lemon grass chicken with vegetables, see the pic, was delicious and spicy. 5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the serving size, one of the smallest Vietnamese portions I've had over the years. (Probably the correct size, I'm just greedy and spoiled by generous portions given by places such as Pho Viet Brighton, Pho Basil in Boston and Le's in Cambridge) I ate my dish there and the food was priced about $1.50 higher than the menu stated, and I was over charged in sales tax (they rounded up by about .80 cents). They also had. Ridiculous minimum $20 for credit cards and even charges $1 fee if you used a "credit" card vs a debit card. Kind of weak to have these rules in 2018. I may sound stingy right about now, but I'm a stickler for this kind of stuff, so I personally won't be back, however with that being said, I do recommend. The food here remains tasty and delicious no matter how much changes Saigon Hut has gone through over the past 2 years since I started coming to this place!! Pho Seafood is always my go-to in this cold weather, and the Hot and sour soup with Tofu comes with white rice is awesome too! My friends had rice with tofu curry and flat rice noodle with tofu, which are delicious!!! I'll definitely come back again and again. Also I see some complaints in the review section about the fee for credit cards and minimum fee. As a customer for 2 years, I think we should respect their business or stop coming back if they don't satisfy the needs and wants of their customers. It's your choice. Dear Saigon Hut, I have hesitated to write this review, but I hope you, the lovely owners, are taking note of what people are writing here so that things can improve & get back to the place I know & love. Saigon Hut used to be one of my favorite neighborhood spots, but the food has really suffered over the past year. I have ordered multiple times since Spring of 2020 despite the fact that the food was not right thinking maybe it was just a temporary effect of the pandemic or a one time thing. Sadly, I ordered again very recently & all of the flavors are still off. The pho broth was obviously flavored with something artificial (and not vegetarian as I ordered). My flat noodles were too sweet, the sauce was watery, and there were some other flaws in the cooking technique and flavorings as well. The food was edible, but definitely not as yummy & satisfying as it used to be. On top of that, I think your prices have gone up. The one positive thing I can say is that your veggies have always been fresh and remain that way. You have never cut corners with your produce which isn't something I can say about every restaurant in town. I really appreciate that. I hope you guys will find another chef as good as whoever cooked for you before. When you do, consider a holding grand reopening & I will be a regular again. Review for pho and takeout. They are cash only under $10, delivery for orders over $15. Really excited to find a great and reasonably priced Vietnamese place in East Boston. The menu is pretty extensive and also includes some Thai options as well as boba. The interior is rather small - only a few tables - and gets reasonable crowded on weekend dinners. Their pho menu is pretty extensive with seafood, veg and chicken options. The beef pho ga listings comes with a wide variety of toppings and meat combos you can get (meatballs, brisket, etc). Broth is flavorful and almost thick, and they are generous with the meat and noodles as well. I usually get takeout, and they are pretty fast with the turnaround and good with the packaging (pho can be a difficult food for takeout). However, I have had a couple of issues with them forgetting extras like the bean sprout / basil package (nooooooooooooo!!!) or the little carton of sriracha and hoisin sauce, so a quick check before you leave the restaurant with your takeout might save you some anguish later. Overall, super solid Vietnamese joint and they definitely have a place on my takeout speed dial. read more

Qualities of any great Vietnamese restaurant (imho) must have: Potted plants of varying shades of green and heights. check! Almost overpowering aroma of allspice, cardamom, star anise, and Saigon cinnamon. Check! Menu consisting of dishes broken up by type of noodle. Written in Vietnamese. Check! Vietnamese waiter/owner upon realizing you speak or at least comprehend basic Vietnamese when you order, and begins to spout out fluent Vietnamese at rapid fire pace. Check! Suffice it to say, being a long way from home in my new adopted city on the East Coast (West Coast is best coast...arguable...maybe...probably not) I've found a Vietnamese restaurant that reminds me of home, in the best possible ways! I'm writing this review after having been here twice now, the first occasion having had the bun thit nuong (grilled beef w/ dry vermicelli noodles and side of sweet fish sauce) and it was like I had never left Little Saigon of Orange County (note: Little Saigon is the largest community of Vietnamese immigrants, covering 3 cities. Rivaled by the community in San Jose, CA). My second and most recent time, I was craving bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and I must say, It is so close, it's almost imperceptible to being back at home. My lady ordered pho bo vien & tai (rice noodle soup w/ meatballs and rare steak) and spoke nothing but great things about it (her standards are quite high, as her father makes it all from scratch all the time...lucky!) Now, all cards on the table, I haven't been down to Dorchester, as I have invariably been told, but without having to schedule my day around the T, and being imperceptibly close to Downtown Boston (only a 15 minute T ride from State street!) Saigon Hut (or is it Saigon Restaurant? or is it East Saigon of Boston?) definitely fits the bill as being as close to the real thing as I can get to being back home. Pros: this is my first Boston restaurant and it was delicious comfort food! The broth was different from some of my other experiences but it was a good different! I got there usual pho with rare steak and it was a good quantity at the large (so I assume the extra large would be even better if you're hungry.) there are a lot of locals that come to this particular restaurant and they raved about the food and the familial spirit of the staff. More importantly, I had a strange incident where a big fly took a suicide dive street into my soup and died even before I got to eat one bite. The waiter saw what happened and without question took my ball away and gave me a new one free of charge. That my friend is good service! Cons: The place is pretty small so I can see it getting crowded fast but it was not an issue since I ate in the evening. I heard great things about Saigon hut so it was time to pay it a visit. I arrived for a casual Sunday night meal. We were greeted by a young woman who came over to take our order. The tea brought over to table was soothing and we drank it through out meal. So we decided to start with the Goi Cuon (fresh spring rolls, a mix of lettuce, fresh mint, cucumber, rice vermicelli, shredded chicken and shrimp) and the Beef Terryaki. The rolls were outstanding! 2 plump freshly made rolls arrived packed with flavor. A dip in the peanut sauce and wow. Definitely a must try! The beef terryaki was also great. This is not your typical Asian beef on a stick but a tasty grilled version with peanuts and flavor. For my entree I decided to be traditional and go with the Pho Ga noodle soup (check out the posted picture). It arrived in an extra large bowl packed with tons of veggies and noodles. The best soup ever and definitely a filling meal! Next time I'll request a small size cause I had so much left over. My boyfriend got the Vietnamese crepe with shrimp and pork. It came out enormous loaded with veggies, he thought it could of used more meat but overall liked it. Service was a little slow. The server was having her meal with her family when we got in and finishing it through our meal. Not a big deal cause we didn't need much.
