I've been coming to this restaurant since it first opened, and it's been a hit in the area ever since! Their food is consistently top-notch and made with high-quality ingredients. You really can't go wrong, and I always enjoy trying something different from the menu. The space is on the smaller side and can get busy in the evenings, but the wait usually isn't too long. I highly recommend this spot if you're craving pho or authentic Vietnamese food. Definitely worth checking out!

Three stars purely for the food, 1 star for the atmosphere, -2 stars for the service. An Nam in Assembly Square serves up very traditional Vietnamese fare, but the "elevated" fine-dining spin they try to put on the experience feels overbearing, overpriced, and completely misses the mark. Vietnamese cuisine is traditionally rooted in affordability, sharing an abundance of food, and enjoying good laughs with great company. By trying to force the concept into a high-end parallel, it just ends up feeling mediocre and hollow. The value simply isn't there--a single appetizer, one main entree, and three refreshments came out to a whopping $105. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly judgmental. Because our party of three only ordered that amount, the staff pretty much ignored us for the rest of the night after taking the order. The awkwardness started the absolute second we sat down. Before we could even settle into our chairs or get handed a menu, the waiter demanded to know what we wanted to drink. When we asked to see a menu first, he looked completely confused as to why we'd need one. After another staff member finally took our order, we sat there waiting for what felt like an eternity. When the food eventually arrived, they gave us sharing plates and chopsticks. We asked for a spoon to properly eat the claypot rice, and the waiter gave us another judging look. As Asians, we obviously know how to use chopsticks, but you objectively need a spoon to scoop the claypot SAUCE out of the pot! While the food itself is decent, the cramped atmosphere, poor hospitality, and inflated price tag mean I won't be rushing back. I might grab take out for the dumpling platter and cat fish rice pot but definitely not sitting in again.

Came here on a saturday evening for dinner. We didn't have a reservation so we had to wait roughly 20-25 minutes. Service was friendly and helpful, we got everything we needed and within a reasonable time. For appetizers we ordered the banh khot which were tasty and crispy, the shrimp tasted fresh. For entrees the table shared the signature fine vermicelli platter. The menu stated that the proteins are the chef's choice and the server mentioned that portions were enough for 3-4 people. The meat included in the platter were all deliciously flavored and cooked nicely. It came with fresh lettuce and herbs to pair with the meat. Our table also ordered a clay pot catfish which was caramelized in a tasty sauce that paired perfectly with the plain white rice. Overall, this is a good place for a meal with family or friends. The seating is comfortable and the restaurant interior is clean and nicely decorated.

Service is lacking and very dismissive. As if communicating to some passive aggressive personnel. For instance, they made a mistake, when informed them, they didn't acknowledge or anything... The personnel, simply came back with a mini cup of one piece of meat ball (see photo) -- implying, here's what they forgot to add. Wow. A business with this type of careless attitudes generally doesn't last long. And An Nam would be no exception to that general pattern.

Was in the area shopping for winter wears and saw this place. Restaurant is very nice looking inside. That caught our attention so we decided to stop in for dinner. The staffs were very friendly. We ordered the followings: - Pho Bowl (Portion was good. Broth very tasty, meat was good) - Bánh Khọt (We loved this appetizer. Crunchy, the shrimp was fresh. This goes well with the dipping sauce) - Grilled Chicken Rice Plate (Chicken was soft and flavorful) - Grilled Beef Fine Vermicelli (Beef was tasty and tender. Goes perfectly with the Fine Vermicelli) We had a great dining experience. Food was good, ambience was nice. Glad we stopped by. Recommend it if you are in the area.

Food was good. Service was not. I waited over an hour for my dish. My partner finished his whole meal before mine showed up, and the table next to us ordered around the same time and finished too. When I asked the server if my order even went through, she walked away without saying anything. My food came out 10 minutes later. At that point I asked if she could pack it to go since my partner was already done eating. No apology, no response, she just walked off again. Then they brought the check. I said I wanted to see my food packed before I paid, and they told me there was only one person in the entire restaurant who could pack food. I offered to do it myself since I'd already been sitting there an hour and 15 minutes. The guy who helped at the end did apologize, which I appreciated. Our actual server never came back to the table. Would've been fine with the wait if anyone had just said "sorry, it's coming." or let me know that there's a wait with the food beforehand.

Wanted to love this place, and it was nice, the service was GREAT... I just wasnt overwhelmed with the foods... Also, I went over a week ago and the tip (on my card) still hasnt charged me and the name that my bank charged against wasnt the name of the location - sketchy to me, but Im all over it! The rolls were bland, I need mint, Basil, Something... It was just meh! The pho was great, my gf stated the portion was small, The wok beef, OMFG it was GOOD, the veggies and flavor was what saved this place. Everything else was just ok. The Vermicelli bowl was good but the noodles were too cooked and super mushy!!! The vibe is cute, and the prices werent bad, just wasnt wow'd!

Really like the ambiance of this place. The interior is very inviting and clean. Staff was attentive. The food is really good and really fresh. The grilled beef was awesome. It may be my favorite dish here. You can't go wrong if you want to eat some food that doesn't sit heavy, especially on a hot day. The flavors are wonderful. The drinks are very refreshing as well. I will return to this place.

It's pretty good what can I say. $19 for the meal, nice cozy ambience plenty of seatings. Parking is tough. Was quickly served. Came with a group of 5 and had no trouble being seated on a Friday evening. I enjoyed the sheet of vermicelli noodles and thought the portion was a good size.

    SALMON - CLAYPOT
    Apex S.

Lunch was fantastic. Everyone in our party enjoyed their lunch entree. While some got pho or grilled shrimp, I got the clay pot salmon. The salmon was delectably cooked, very tender. The sauce in the dish was very umami flavored and went well with the side of steamed broken rice. Even though I finished 70% of my meal, I wanted the leftovers because it was too good to go to waste! The ambarella juice was a great accompaniment. It has a sweet, sour, tangy taste. I have never tasted the raw fruit but the juice got me curious. Ambiance was bright and airy and service was attentive and quick. In fact, it came as a surprise when the staff offered to box my leftovers as I was asking them for a to-go container. They did forget to include my rice but when I went back to ask, they quickly found it. Overall, I'll say even though I only tried one dish here it was so good that I'd like to be back to eat just that again!

Delicious find at Assembly Row! A welcome addition to the fairly culinarily narrow Assembly, and a good one at that. The interior is spacious, high ceilings and fashionable decor. The food is tasty (especially the vermicelli bowls and pho, the broth is so delicious and fresh), and price? Honestly totally fair for the location and quality of food. Waiters were attentive, I think my husband and I have found our go to Vietnamese restaurant in the Somerville area!

    Jin S.

My new favorite Vietnamese restaurant! A Nam is a must try and adds diversity and touch of flavor to the Assembly Row area. They serve authentic Vietnamese cuisine and is in a great location. There is plenty of parking in the garage or lot close by and central to several shops. The restaurant is extremely clean and has a modern, fresh, bright and airy vibe to it. Perfect spot for a bite to eat with friends or a date night. Service is always quick and friendly. I got the Beef Pho and it came out hot and fresh. You get a side of bean sprouts and lime along with condiments on the side to spice up the soup. I also got the egg-rolls and it was crispy and tasty. The sugar cane juice is my go to drink. I'll definitely be back!

    Pho tai
    Rebecca X.

Cute Vietnamese place in Assembly Square, definitely more polished and modern than what I'm used to. That's reflected in the prices and menu too. My usual pho dac biet was not on the menu, nor was bun bo hue; instead it seemed like they only included dishes that would be more widely "palatable" to the general public. The cheapest pho bowl was also 18 or 19 bucks which is pretty steep. We got spring rolls, chicken skewers, and pho -- specifically I got pho tai. Spring rolls and the skewers were great, no complaints. They were presented very prettily and tasted fresh and flavorful. The beef in my pho was excellent, super tender and fresh. I got the fresh rice noodles which were a 1 dollar surcharge, and they were nice but perhaps toooo soft? I think I would have preferred regular noodles, but that's not the fault of An Nam. The pho broth itself was a little off for me. There was a distinct strong savory aroma that overpowered the flavors of the spices which made me think they added a ton of MSG. Now I am actually a fan of MSG but it was too much in this case. I didn't feel the need to add any hoisin sauce or Sriracha though, so that's a plus. Overall it wasn't a bad experience and I think An Nam would scratch the pho itch if you lived nearby, but I would still prefer the pho places in Dorchester. I would say the pho was 3.5/5, apps were 5/5, so overall I'd give it a 4 ish.

The restaurant had a really great ambiance, and I enjoyed being able to watch the chefs prepare the food. We ordered the ginger cabbage salad, the coconut eggplant, and the duck noodles. I would have loved to have tried their sushi grade salmon, but they were unfortunately sold out for the night. So I would recommend arriving earlier if you would like to try it. My favorite dish was the duck noodles. I liked the freshness of the basil in the pesto, and the tenderness and juiciness of the duck. The coconut eggplant was a close second favorite. The coconut flavor was delicious, and I liked the nuts on top for crunch. I also found the ginger cabbage salad to be yummy, but not as much as a standout as the other two dishes. Overall, I really enjoyed this spot for dinner. I liked how fresh everything was, and how the dishes felt very light and healthy. It's definitely a bit on the pricier side, but I found it to be very worth it. I definitely come back and try their lattes and other dishes.
