Staff are friendly here and despite a small storefront, there is so much to choose from! Not only are you getting banh mi sandwiches, they also have rice rolls, rice plates and baked goods! There are other things too. Banh mi - We like the special cold cut combo, and they were $7.50 each. These were excellent! Bread was perfectly crisp and filling was good proportions. Flavor was good and it satisfies! Egg rolls - $1.25 each. They are small but pack great crisp and the filling is tasty. Get 4 or 5. Rice roll plate - Not sure of the price but appears to be good portions and comes with one egg roll and it has some cold cut style meats. Includes fish sauce and you can ask for it to be spicy and they give you the spiciest (but so good) red chilies! 4 banh mi's, 5 egg rolls and the rice roll plate was $45.xx. I am writing to share my disappointment regarding a recent visit to your establishment. I believe it is important for you to be aware of the service standards I experienced, as they reflect poorly on your business. Earlier today During my visit, two men entered the shop and cut in front of two other ladies also myself in line. Instead of managing the queue or asking who was next, your staff ignored the line and served them immediately. Furthermore, when I placed my order for noodles, the staff member assumed I wanted both pork and shrimp. When I clarified that I only wanted pork, the employee was dismissive and argued that 'people usually like both' rather than simply apologizing or asking for my preference. As a customer, I expect to be asked for my preferences rather than having them assumed. It is the responsibility of the staff to manage the queue fairly and to treat customers with basic courtesy. The lack of professionalism and the dismissive attitude I encountered are the reasons why many customers choose not to return. Ordering was a touch confusing, you order in the middle where there is a break in between the glass cases on the counter before the register, but there isn't a sign or numbering system. Service was very fast. My partner had a BBQ pork banh mi and that was very fresh and tasty. They opened after we moved out of state so it's our first time. They have lots of things to select from, but we came specifically for the bahn mi combo. The portion is pretty big and they don't cheat you on the pate or the butter spread. The cold cuts and veggies were fresh. I'm not used to the onion in the sandwich, this is the first time I got onions in bahn mi. To me the onion flavor overpowers the flavor of the sandwich itself but it's still a good bahn mi. We also grabbed a basil grass jelly drink, not much a 'drink' since we picked the one that was super basil-ly and wasn't much grass jelly flavor. Also grabbed a colorful sticky rice dessert. I ordered the cold cut ($7) which was tasty and came with a generous amount of vegetables I also tried the Thai tea with boba, but I would not recommend it. Cheap and so tasty. I always go to Ba Le when in Dorchester but this location had all my go-tos and was just as satisfying. I leave with a heavy bag stuffed with goodies for the next few days for $27-35. The line doesn't take too long. Tons of options to explore. The reasons I don't do much are 1) I love my go-tos. 2) lack of English signs (or any signage; though they've recently added some which is helpful. I wish they'd label everything). I always get a Banh mi sandwich. I've tried several meats and most like the chicken and bbq pork. My other go-tos are: - (dark colored) bbq pork (fresh vermicelli wrap) spring rolls, though I've also enjoyed the mixed with 1 pork, 1 shrimp, and 1 with a spam-like slice - pork floss buns: I've seen as many as 4 types. I just discovered the one with shredded seaweed as mochi inside! It's a bigger, flatter version of the pair of rounds that I always get at Taiwan Bakery - all the other baked goods I've had were delicious; they seem to rotate the offerings There are a variety of other goodies in front of the glass along the whole line. Holy smokes, this place is so cheap. I've never seen banh mi this cheap. It's $6 for the normal and $7 for BBQ pork or beef. Baguette was delicious and crunchy. Meat was solid; not the best I've ever had, but great for the price. They have so much other food packaged in to-go boxes on sale, too. Next time I want to try some of their pastries. Ordering was a a bit of a challenge if you don't speak Vietnamese. Banh mi was simple, i pointed to the server for the meat/topping options. I saw fresh flat noodles and wanted to order but not sure how to (do I mix with meat, veggies or order as is? Later I found out the entree is called "banh cuon"). Luckily another staff who speaks English returned from break so I was able to put that order in. She first packed the noodles, then spam like pork meat, bean sprouts and a spring roll. A friend later told me that you can pick shrimp instead of pork. I always wanted to buy the pandan coconut jelly dessert but it's very hard to find fresh ones. Happy to find them here! Are you crazy for fresh squeezed sugar cane? They have a machine and you can see them juice in front of you! Please note that they do mix with kumquat (also my fav go to drink). The mix is great but next time I would ask for straight up sugar cane. They also have a lot of prepared food for quick grabs (papaya salad, bún thịt nướng, apps and treats) It would be nice if Ba Le list the prices for the goodies they sell. The board only listed prices for drinks, banh mi and a few prepared meals. I also found out that they serve pho and congee too! They will get more business if they list everything they sell. Haven't been to them since they changed to this location but I was happy to find them again. Their fans have also followed as there was a long line on a Tuesday around 12. We got to try their traditional and BBQ pork banh mi sandwiches and a combination order of spring rolls. I almost think the sandwiches are slightly larger than they were before and prices were very good coming out to less than $20 in total. Stumbled across this little gem while looking for some loose green tea in the Asian 99 Supermarket, which is extremely hard to find. I found the green tea AND was overjoyed to find this little place which is full of AUTHENTIC Vietnamese food that is even more difficult to find in New England, especially without the inflated tourist-markup. If you're curious about REAL Vietnamese food not the usual ubiquitous (and mostly half-assed) "pho" a.k.a. rice noodle soup, come here and just sample all the ready-to-eat things they have on offer. The "banh mi" VN sandwiches are legit and decently priced ($6-7 not some asinine $10-15 like in the pseudo "Vietnamese" places), as are the various sticky rice dishes, some of which are wrapped in banana leaves. I was especially amazed that they even have "banh cuon" which I had never seen outside of Houston, the Bay Area, or SoCal before---google it if you've never heard of it, but it's quite delicious. Of course, most of the foods here are carby as hell, but that's pretty much the rule with East Asian food in general, so you probably want to get a couple of meat sticks to go with your meal unless you were planning to have a nice little siesta thereafter...or if you're vegetarian, plan to have some strong coffee afterwards. :) Note: this place is open only until 7pm every day except Wednesday, when they are closed. read more

This new Ba Le is definitely either better or as good as the Dorchester standalone one. I've tried the Quincy Ba Le in the Kaman market and it was lackluster, almost not worth trying but this Malden one is almost as good as it gets. It's inside the 99 Asian supermarket, plenty of parking, there's even tables to sit at. The bread is the freshest I've had in so many years, the filling is adequate and flavorful. The best aioli and pate is perfect. I'm so excited to have something up here in Malden and hopeful quality holds up in the years to come! read more

I was so excited to finally give this place a try since I shop here often in the market. I waited in line patiently until it was my turn. The guy in front of me was finally up and ordered 3 sandwiches. All I wanted was the spring rolls which were already done out front. A guy went up to cut me and spoke in Vietnamese to tell her what he wanted while ringing the guy up that was a head of me. Instead of telling him to wait until I get served, she took his order over me. I hope it's not because he's also Vietnamese speaking in each other's language to hook him by cutting me which is how I felt. It's truly disrespectful to customers that aren't Vietnamese. It's disrespectful in general. I definitely won't be returning and letting people know expect to be treated secondary if not of same race.
