A definite hidden location for banh mi, you could only tell of its existence by the smell of the bread. Going in, you know there's only one thing they sell: banh mi and the bread that quintessentially define the sandwich. There are stacks and trays of rolls. No one speaks English (or at least willing to speak it), so pointing and body language may be your only modes of communication. The bread is generally good, though I've had occasions where the texture was varied. The sandwich is huge is fully loaded with ingredients. The ingredients are fresher than some of the other places I've been around. For $4, it's a decent deal.

The people who work there are not friendly. We bought banh mi from there three times, and with different type of banh mi every time. The recent time experience, he made the wrong banh mi, even though he asked us three times what Banh mi we wanted. The Banh mi were all cold and it tasted like a day old meat. We also got very little meat in our banh mi. You can just say the entire banh mi was just the bread itself.

I figured I'd grab some Banh Mi before leaving the city. It's not too often I get the chance to go to Dorchester and experience Vietnamese authenticity... This place is definitely hidden. I only stumbled upon it as I was walking back towards my vehicle. Be warned! They do not speak any English. I was only able to order correctly since I knew what each individual sandwich is called in Vietnamese. But, I presume they know they basics if you were to state cold cut, beef, or pork, etc...... They do bake their bread themselves. I witnessed one of the employees bringing out a piping hot batch. So 5 stars for the freshness! And FYI, all Banh Mi's are well priced at $4.

Prices have gone up but that expected with inflation. Makes sense that if the cost of groceries go up the prices here would too. Still the same great amazing quality.

There are only 2 banh mi sandwiches I think are worth eating in the Boston area, and both are in Dorchester: Banh Mi Ba Le and Chau Bakery. Both have really delicious banh mi and whenever I'm in the area, I make a point of stopping at one or the other to have a sandwich and likely take one for the road to Providence. Where Chau Bakery gets the edge over Banh Mi Ba Le is the sandwich bread. Both places have fresh bread baked the same day but at Chau Bakery it is a little fatter in the middle, crisper on the outside, and fluffier in the inside. Also, most times the bread is still warm from being freshly baked, not being reheated in an oven to crisp. The way Chau Bakery makes its bread is why if I choose to take a sandwich home rather than eat it in house, 2 out of 3 times I'll choose Chau. The freshness of the bread is key to banh mi and having the bread even be just a couple hours fresher makes a big difference in taste when I do take out. Other notes: the workers speak English, they're just soft spoken. The wall has the sandwich choices and right now it costs $4, a steal for the level of quality and detail that goes into making banh mi. Worth the 40 minute hike from Providence, RI when I get a craving for banh mi.

Omg!!! I have been so skeptical with trying a banh mi sandwich. I absolutely love Pho noodles and this Vietnamese sandwich was highly recommended by one of my good friends from this location. I am so glad that I went with their recommendation for my first-ever Vietnamese banh mi sandwich. I opted for the beef selection the sauce and gravy on the bread was a delicious combination of sweet, tangy, and spicy. The meat was tender and the vegetables were very fresh. I give this location my seal of approval

I've never had a bad sandwich from there. I've tried the chopped cheese, steak and cheese, and buffalo chicken sandwiches. I've really enjoyed the chopped cheese and steak and cheese and can say that are favorites for me. I also like grabbing one of their cold-cut sandwiches to take to the beach as an easy snack. I haven't tried anything from the salad or hot bar yet, but it always looks really good. It gets pretty busy, so I'm guessing it's popular for a reason. I also buy my meat and fish there because everything always looks fresh and the quality has been great. The produce I've picked up has always been fresh too. Don't forget their garden section with a great selection for seasonal favorites. It's clean and very organized, so easy to find what you need. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes shopping there even better. If you have not been, you are mission out on a neighborhood gem.

The only reason it's only four stars is because they sell a bunch of seedless grapes, which I hate. I want my grapes with seeds in them. I really hate that almost NONE of the local grocery stores or national chains sell grapes with seeds anymore. And when they do, it's usually only one variety. But that doesn't seem to bother most people. You're gonna love this place! I do!

Case in point--the turf bagel. I love it so much that sometimes it's hard for me to order anything else. Drinks are a mixed bag for me. Their matcha (hot or iced) is solid, but I always need to sweeten it. The limeade was too bitter for my taste, and the rickey-style drink didn't quite hit my sweetness preference either. Chai (both hot and iced) is nice, but definitely add vanilla. Next on my list to try? The grilled cheese. I've been coming here for years, and the space is not big, but when it gets packed -- good luck. There are barstools facing the window and smaller tables throughout, but navigating the space can be tricky, so I wouldn't call it fully accessible. Still, the atmosphere makes up for a lot--it's got that community café element that I personally love. Overall, Homestead is the kind of place you want to experience for yourself: come for the food (which will always deliver), try the drinks with your own preferences in mind, and soak in the sense of community.

Unfortunately, we had to order through Uber Eats for delivery, so the food wasn't as hot as it would've been fresh, but even with that, my coworkers and I still enjoyed everything. Definitely one of my favorites and something I'd order again. I also tried the sweet chili chicken fries and the Beantown chopped cheese sandwich. The flavors were solid overall, and even after delivery the food still held up pretty well. Next time I'd love to visit in person and try it fresh because I'm sure it would be even better. I arrived to the shop at 11:05am and they were open. But it's definitely not the end of the world! I really wanted to try their chicken Caesar wrap. It's been on our minds since Tuesday lol FOOD - Chicken Caesar Wrap is 11/10! I'm not even exaggerating it. Please come and try it for yourself. Lettuce tasted fresh, the right amount of chicken and Parmesan cheese and croutons, nicely wrap in a tortilla wrap, and the RIGHT AMOUTH OF DRESSING/Sauce. I will definitely come back like every other week lol Chicken Buffalo ranch wrap was also good but lacked sauce. Next time I will definitely ask for more sauce. Chicken tender dinner 3pc for $10 with fries is definitely a deal. A deal because their tenders are the right size and fried perfectly . Only down fall is, it does not come with sauce. It's $.75 or $1 for sauce. I believe it should come with one sauce per order. Just my opinion. Strawberry tres leches was mid per wifey. I'll get her the original plain one next time to see how it is. Overall, great customer service when you order in person. The cashier was super friendly and helpful. Their wraps are very good. I will come back to try the other 2-3. Glad I finally decided to come and check this place out.
