We were in Boston celebrating my husband's birthday and stumbled upon Molinari's on OpenTable--so we decided to book his birthday dinner there. It ended up being one of the best choices of our trip. Pros: The atmosphere is intimate in the best way, and the staff was incredibly attentive from start to finish. The price point was great, especially considering that the food was absolutely phenomenal--truly the best meal we had in Boston. The place was packed for a random Wednesday night, which says a lot. Cons: There honestly aren't many. If I had to pick one, it would be that the restaurant is definitely on the smaller side, so seating can feel a bit tight. Also, watching people attempt parallel parking outside was unintentionally hilarious--not a complaint about the restaurant, just free entertainment. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend giving Molinari's a try. They were amazing, and if (or really, when) we come back to Boston, we'll definitely be visiting again. read more

I have not found Boston pizza that compares to NY pizza.. and this was very average. My boyfriend got the La Bocca and I got the La Lucca. Pros: great size, fair price, really cool flavor combinations. Cons: not generous with the "fancier" toppings (like the meatballs on my pizza), flavorless crust, too floppy, overwhelming garlic on mine. I think we would give them another chance because I really haven't found any pizza places that impress me here and they are great price and size for sharing. read more

Absolutely fantastic place! Drove an hour and half from Connecticut to meet my nephew and his husband there and it was worth it. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the difficulty in finding a parking space. Service by our waitress; Gracie was awesome... 5 stars!! The food was also fantastic. Started off with a meatball appetizer which was delicious. I also got a very nice Ceaser salad which I very much enjoyed. My Chicken Parm with fresh pasta was also delicious. My wife truly enjoyed her Eggplant Parm and my nephew loved his Citrus Salad with Chicken. His husband also loved his Chicken Parm. We had two orders of complimentary bread. Great vibe! Stopped in Dot for dinner this past week. First time at Molinari! We were seated right away before the dinner rush. The staff seems nice, gets you what you request quickly! We ordered: Calamari, standard fried calamari with marinara dip sauce. It was crispy and wasn't rubbery but it was definitely bland in way of the batter itself. So the sauce helped. The pizzas were both great! The burrata pizza i added sausage and it had a nice Bianca style oil base. The hot honey prosciutto pizza was full of topping and flavor. So why the low score if the presentation and service are so good? Food. Food is the beating heart at the center of every restaurant. When I saw my plate I was underwhelmed vs a plate from a chain like Olive Garden. Taste: s stars. Bland, I'm sorry to say. Normally in Italian food there is an avalance of spices. There is a pungent aroma. I didnt spot many spices in my food and I had to personally request salt to add it to my food as there was none on the table. The pasta is made there daily. I'm no expert but I believe salt is added to pasta when you make it? Maybe I'm wrong and tradtional pasta dishes are very bland and flavorless. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper to make the food palatable. I'm not a conosoir(sp?) by any stretch but when I eat I expect to feel some measure of joy and satisfaction from the food itself. I didnt feel that joy. Eating was just a task I was accomplishing at the restaurant as I spent company with loved ones. I hate to leave this review because the people seemed really nice. I was very excited to try this place. It was difficult to get a reservation. The eggplant appetizer and arancini were excellent. The pasta was a bit of a disappointment. My fiancé and I went here for our anniversary dinner and it was wonderful! The inside is cute and has a family feel and it's a smaller more intimate spot. We got pizza and pasta and both were delicious. The chicken cutlet I got on my pasta was some of the best chicken I've ever had. We had a wonderful time at Molinari's on Saturday night....Three of us for a birthday dinner. It was our first time there. It was busy and everyone was so attentive and pleasant. We were looking for a new pizza place to try & decided to give Molinari's a visit. I've probably driven by thousands of times and never realized it was right here all along! What we ordered: -calamari -burrata pizza with sausage -honey truffle pizza with bacon + prosciutto -ginger ale -Shirley temple Okay, so the first two things that arrived to the table were: Shirley temple & the calamari. I'm really not much of a soda drinker but every so often, I'll go for a Shirley temple. This one was very syrup-y upon the first sip and after mixing it, it still tasted pretty syrup-y, which I wasn't really a fan of. The calamari arrived very light in color & we were already kind of skeptical before trying it. It was as bland it looked & as we thought but luckily the sauce did help. Now, for the pizzas, probably the only thing that I would come back for. My favorite of the two we ordered was the burrata pizza with sausage added. Both had great flavor but I definitely like the burrata one more than the honey truffle pizza. For the pizzas, we were given large empty, cleaned out tomato sauce cans to use as stands for the pizzas. I liked the concept but the cans didn't serve as the best base for the pizzas. Definitely have to be careful handling the pizza slices because no sturdy base. Overall, I would come back for the burrata pizza and try other pizzas that they offer. Molinari's is an Italian restaurant located in Dorchester. I had lunch there and street parking is free for 2 hours during daytime hours. Inside it is a table service restaurant with a small bar area. I ordered the pappardelle bolognese for $18 and the food arrived less than 15 minutes later. It was just what was advertised and what I wanted. A big bowl of fresh hand cut pappardelle with a large dose of meat sauce on top consisting of beef and pork with tomatoes, garlic, onions and seasonings to give it added flavor. It was a lot of food that tasted very good. I really liked the pasta and there was plenty of meat sauce left over. Gracie provided table service that was warm and friendly. Went into Molinari's this past Friday night, they were quite busy. Two couples in front of us were seated (by a woman hostess) at the bar because there was a long wait for a table, when the host (a gentleman) came to us he said there was an hour wait for a table and I suggested the bar he told me you needed reservations for the bar which obviously wasn't true because they sat the two couples before us who did not have reservations. He then just basically told us we should leave because there was no seating. Never asked to take our name so we could wait or even suggest we go to the bar for a drink and wait for a table to open. Terrible service from a host who just wanted the night to be over. Management should really look into how their people interact with their customers, as I have heard nothing but good things about the restaurant and was looking forward to trying it for myself. read more

Ordered delivery got a specialty pizza and their steak sandwich specifically asked for no mushrooms because of an allergy and asked to add onions. The sandwich was covered in mushrooms had no onions and they really skimped on the steak. Chicken Ziti Broccoli is terrible! I substituted the ziti for pappardelle pasta but that is beside the point. The white sauce had absolutely no flavor at all, the chicken was extremely dry and tough to eat, and for some reason the broccoli was so overwhelming, like that's all I could taste. First and foremost, Molinari's is an American-Italian restaurant. If you are looking for authentic Italian food, this is not the place for you. If you want some Americanized Italian food, this is probably the best place in the area. Just as a note, they offer complimentary bread and olive oil for dine in customers. I got the Strawberry Spritz mocktail to start and it was great, highly recommended: 5/5. It has a good strawberry flavor and a good balance of lemon. It is syrupy at the bottom, so good if you have a sweet tooth. I got the seasonal roasted squash: 1/5. The Blood Orange EVOO greatly overwhelmed the flavors of the dish and there were areas where the dish was especially pungent. When I was eating it, some parts of the drizzle had a good amount of balsamic vinegar and Blood Orange EVOO, but other parts were just overwhelmingly pungent with a deep concentrated Blood Orange flavor. I would not get this again. I'm not too judgmental and I have leniency with food, but the sharp pungency in some areas just made the dish very unpalatable. Fettuccine Carbonara: 5/5. Again, this is very Americanized Carbonara. The dish is made with the addition of cream and peas, so in other words, it is non-traditional. It also uses a fresh pasta, so in other words, it has a very eggy flavor, especially considering the sauce. I knew this when I ordered it and it did not disappoint. The pasta had a good bite to it, the peas were just barely cooked and retained a lot of crunchiness, the sauce of flavorful, and the pancetta was fresh. Serving was a good portion. Summer in Sicily: 4/5 It was good; I wasn't too wowed with it however, so I think 4 is fair. My first thoughts with it was that it was incredibly boozy. When I first took a sip, I tasted a strong amount of alcohol. I moved the straw towards the top, and tasted soda. It occurred to me that the alcohol was concentrated at the bottom, but wow, I was not prepared for it when I took that initial sip with the straw positioned as it came. It's a fun cocktail to order. My thoughts when drinking it were that it tasted like a Bomb Pop popsicle. Strawberry and Lemon with a slight astringent bitterness in the middle of the tongue that just reminds me of Bomb Pops. I did dock a tiny bit from the score because they used an unripe strawberry. There were also some (really) small brown specks floating on the ice but that had no bearing on my score. Crème Brûlée: 3.5/5 Well, my main gripe with the crème brûlée was that the cream was over cooked. I added a photo to try to capture the texture on camera, but the crème brûlée was not custardy at all. A great crème brûlée shouldn't be too runny nor should it be too solid. This crème brûlée was more on the solid side, more like a stiff purin. The caramelized sugar was good- it was pretty nice and uniform and had a great crunch, while surprisingly being thin. It came with some cool garnish- the cookie was good, the strawberry was beautifully fanned, and the whipped cream was great with my last few bites of the dessert. If anyone is wondering, the mint sprig was fresh and still springy. I could tell that the ingredients were good (aside from the strawberry being unripe), but the crème brûlée being over cooked was what pushed it into 3-star territory. I do appreciate the garnish, but I wish that they used ripe berries. Overall, my experience was wonderful and I will definitely come back. The Carbonara was amazing and I can see myself coming by every once in a while to get it. It also seems like they offer a seasonal menu, so it seems fun to be able to pop in and try different dishes too! read more
