This spot has been on my "I should try that someday" list for a few years, and I'm so glad I finally made it in. The first thing that surprised me was how much seating they offer. The outdoor area is inviting, and inside there's a great mix of low-top tables, high-tops, bar seating, and cozy spots to settle into. Everything feels thoughtfully spread out, and I loved being able to see the open brick oven and activity in the kitchen. The space also has a bit of a bakery/café vibe, making it feel like a place where you could stop in for a quick grab-and-go item or stay awhile for a full meal. The staff made a great impression too. The people at the front were incredibly helpful to my guest, who was having some trouble with their phone. I also ordered one of the specialty drinks but asked for it without alcohol. The bartender absolutely nailed it--it was so good that my only complaint was that it didn't come in a bigger glass. For food, I had the grass-fed burger and fries (see photo), and it exceeded my expectations. The burger was so juicy and flavorful that I ended up cutting it into pieces just to make it manageable. Every bite was delicious. What I appreciate most is that I left feeling like I hadn't even experienced everything the restaurant has to offer. I already want to go back, choose a different seat, and enjoy a completely different perspective of the space. Honestly, it feels like the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon. You definitely need to dine here at least once if you're in the area. I used to be a regular when I worked nearby. The ambiance is so cool. I love that it used to be a train station turned restaurant and the food is both beautiful and delicious. Menu prices are a bit high, but again worth it if you're in it for the full experience. Parking can be a bit rough on busy nights though so plan accordingly. read more

We love sister restaurant Prairie Fire and finally got to try Steel & Rye for lunch. There were plenty of seating options inside and outside on a Saturday afternoon. My husband enjoyed the Margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella and the Zucchini /squash blossom pizza was excellent! We also got a huge sourdough to go (2nd place winner in a bread competition), a blueberry muffin which was full of blueberries not too dry or oily, a coffee cake that my husband said wasn't bad and a brownie that he liked. The cornmeal honey cookie had a strange sour taste I didn't like. I also had an Oatly oatmilk cappuccino which was pretty strong (I think I'd ask for a single shot next time) because I like the small size. They use Fazenda beans. read more

Lovely local spot! Service is great, the servers here are very kind. Steel & Rye's Pizza is literally the best. They always have amazing sauce, delicious toppings, & crispy yet airy crusts. You'll never go wrong with any of their pizzas. Their Shirley Temples are also incredibly refreshing. The only downside was their dessert. The Lavender Blueberry Cake was texturally hard so it was difficult to eat. The vanilla icecream on top didn't seem necessary either. This review is for their bakery. I love their glazed donut. The texture is fluffy inside and the glazed formed a thin crisp. All of their pastries are not too sweet. The vanilla cranberry danish had the perfect amount of tartness paired with the smooth pastry cream. I could taste the early grey tea in the London fog tea cake. It looked dense but wasn't inside. The pecan coconut blondie had a lovely chewy texture and the coconut flavor wasn't overwhelming. Staff was quick to greet and ask what I needed and there are plenty of parking outside if their lot is full. read more

I have always loved Steel & Rye but last night everything was exceptionally perfect! The first thing I asked our waitress was if there was any way the bartender could make a drink that I've had there in the past which was no longer on the menu called the Pineapple Express (fantastic - gin, grilled pineapple, lime, yellow chartreuse & tiki bitters). She came back after checking and happily said yes! To start, my daughter and I shared the burrata and the corn fritters - both were amazing. So delicious. We followed this with a margarita pizza that was cooked perfectly in their brick oven. We were sadly too full for dessert. Why do I love this place so much? I think it's because their menu is always changing with what's in season and it's so creative. The cocktails are amazing as well - not just your standard boring drinks. They give me inspiration to try to re-create them at home! Props to the bartender for her crazy good cocktail shaking skills - my (2!) The service was amazing with the waiter checking on us frequently if we enjoyed the food which we did. For my drink, I got the cookie butter latte which was delicious. It was more on the sweeter side which is what I like. For the appetizer, we got the spiced chip and dip. The chips were very airy and crispy where you can still taste the potato. The dip was a perfect pairing. It was light and creamy with a perfect amount of spice. I love that the pizza was wood fired. They have a cute concept for breakfast/brunch where you can order at the bakery stand and just find a table to sit at & they will bring you what you ordered. What we ordered: -BLT sandwich -Chicken cutlet sandwich -Turkey sandwich -Iced matcha ube latte -Iced honey lavender latte -Cold brew I love the sandwiches from here! The chicken cutlet was my favorite; moist and not dry at all. I'm obsessed with their drinks... honey lavender is so good. The matcha latte with ube was also very nice. I like how both drinks didn't taste watery at all & had all the flavor! Nice and strong. Staff is very kind and helpful. Inside is very spacious & has lots of tables available. Haven't been by steel and rye for a bit so we decided to meet an o'l friend for some lunch / brunch! We weren't disappointed. Nice local spot with a small parking lot / street parking all up the street available. Walking in we were greeted right away. Directed us over to the order counter. Grabbed drinks and some sandwiches! - matcha ube latte - ice cold brew - honey lavender ice latte coffee - chicken cutlet sandwich - BLT - Turkey sandwich Everything was enjoyable. I liked my matcha latte especially after mixing it well the Ube and the matcha always goes well together as a pair. The lady liked her coffee not overly sweet! I got the chicken cutlet sandwich, it was much bigger than i expected and i was definitely full after. The chicken was fried well, still moist and not dry. Thin cuts! The sauce they have on there i forget what it was but it was like a pesto/olive oil/ Italian seasoning mix. You take your seat with a number flag and they graciously bring it to your table. With each visit, the prices seemed to go up, and quality seemed to go down. For a while it was our preferred go-to wood fire pizza take out spot. Even though I don't live in the area, I've been here a couple of times. The vibe inside is rustic dining /bakery with a morning ToGo bakery that is amazing to a dinner experience that is as gastro as it gets. The menu is artisan everytime. The chef is clearly an artist. I've had their dinner pasta specials and the lasagna bolognese and the kale Caesar. Service is clearly outstanding and the servers grasp of the menu is superb. This is a cut above everyone else. While expensive, the flavor and quality is very high (at $6 a piece, it can get pricey trying them all!) staff have always been friendly and helpful/welcoming. My second visit in about a year. I went for the pizza but ended up getting the cheeseburger. For $26 dollars I figured it must be amazing. Had to try it but wish I hadn't. So not worth the money. First off, I asked for med-rare and it came med and was dry. Secondly, the onions were ok, but not great. The bread to meat ratio was way off. The patty is too small for the size bun it comes on. After a couple bites I took the top off of it. But worst of all is the burger sauce. It is thousand island dressing with so much liquid smoke it tasted fake. Left a sickening taste in my mouth and I could not finish it. I also do not like their beer menu at all. Extremely disappointing. It's a beautiful space with a nice bakery, but that's about it. read more

Great place for coffee in Milton! They have many options and specialty drinks! I have not tried the food here but will definitely be back to try! The staff was very helpful when explaining how to order since it was a bit confusing where to order when I first walked in. I ordered an iced Ube latte and it was great! In the morning, they have a bakery section with coffee/tea and baked goods. They have free Wi-Fi here so I would come here with a friend and do work together. For what they charge why aren't they carving real turkey breast? Was in there today for sit down lunch. Wish I had taken pictures. We just had one of the worst dining experiences. We had been before and had a good experience but this time it felt like something went wrong every step of the way. First they brought the wrong appetizer, then they brought the wrong drinks, they forgot other drinks. when it came time for the main meal 2 of 3 of our party got our food while the last person's food came out so late the other people were already done with their dinner. The whole time this was happening we were also being given other tables'' drinks and food while the people next to us got our orders. The water seemed very confused by everything and the manager ended up comping our entire meal. It was so disappointing because we had had such a good time the first time. I have been to S&R many times and occasionally sample their baked goods at the Hingham Farmers Market. Their brunch menu is consistently excellent (fresh ingredients and farm to table quality) and their espresso drinks and martinis are always good. The atmosphere is great as well. It's in an old ambulance depot so it's very large and roomy inside. Can't speak to their dinner menu but hope to try it soon. read more

One of those cases where I found myself doing research. If I am going to bop a place on the noggin, I want to make sure I more-or-less know what I am talking about. Steel & Rye appears to have something of an identity crisis, though somehow it works? S&R is the amalgamation of a hip brunch and dinner restaurant combined with a bakery/cafe that bakes pastries and loaves of bread. Complete with a bar, of course. I stopped in for a non-boozy Sunday brunch and ordered the chilaquiles and a regular coffee. I later bought a piece of Cherry & Pink Peppercorn Shortbread to satisfy my sweet tooth and go with the coffee once the chilaquiles were gone. The Chilaquiles were excellent! The chips were warm and felt homemade, and the chicken was in ample amounts and very tender. The salsa verde was fantastic, too; it brought a gentle level of heat and acidity and tied everything together. The only thing that would have been nice would be some avocado. Then again, that's just the millennial in me talking. The execution here works. Having the chicken and most of the sauce be towards the bottom meant that the chips could shine on their own without being turned into a soggy mess. As great as this dish was, I found the price steep relative to what I got. $21 for a plate of (though tasty) chips, a modest amount of chicken, an egg, and some veggies and sauces seems relatively high. Moving to the baked good - I immensely enjoyed the shortbread. It wasn't overly sweet, and the cherry and pink peppercorn flavors worked well together. I only wish I wasn't so desensitized to pepper in all forms! The service here was solid, nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. read more

We started with sour dough bread and split pepperoni pizza and the burger. The burger is one of the best we had in the greater Boston area. Our server Josh was wonderful! Homemade pickles, charcuterie, and the best bread on this planet, (miles better than Iggys.)
