We recently had a family function at Blasi's. The food and service were outstanding! We had such a lovely time! Our spot was in the back where they set up tables for our party to be able to be comfortable and all together! The staff allowed and helped us to put up decorations celebrating my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. Maria Blasi was lovely to work with and spot on in terms of the amount of food to work order. Enjoyed an excellent family birthday/anniversary dinner last night for ten of us. Service was friendly, attentive, and spot-on with timing. After drinks (mostly soft drinks) and two orders of light and airy garlic bread - one with cheese, one without - our sumptuous entrees arrived. We all ordered Italian. My son and I each ordered Chicken fra Diavolo because we love spicy, and it was indeed spicy! But after first taste our tastebuds became inured to the heat and we happily finished our hearty entrees. Everyone else equally enjoyed their Italian dinners, some leaving with leftovers since portions are quite generous. I saw a gorgeous platter of scampi next to me, and eggplant and chicken Parmesan also. One hungry young member of our family ordered a chicken park sub with fries and a side of meatballs. I do believe she finished it all. Such a great place to celebrate two milestone occasions with great company and excellent food. read more

the new Blasi's is a cavernous and loud space. Beer and wine only OR "cordials". No liquor. Our meals were mediocre at best. Grilled salmon pretty good. Haddock bland, crusty around the edges. Carrots were the little mini carrots you get in a bag at S&S. The spinach was fresh and EXCELLENT! prices comparable to other local spots. It used to be one of our go to places years ago. Blasi's has become my go to place to grab food when I can't decide on another place to eat. You can't go wrong here. My favorite meal to get here is the BBQ steak tip sub. It has a nice amount of steak on it. It comes with fries and they'll give you a ton of those. When I've dined in, the staff takes good care of me. I've also had some pasta dishes that are good too. I highly recommend coming here to eat. Make sure you end your meal with an Italian ice! read more

We haven't been here in a year or two and this was our first time back due to not working in the area anymore. Holy cow is all I have to say. The bruschetta is fabulous and huge, my wife and I needed a box for an appetizer. It was so fresh and hearty not what I expected. I got the prosciutto sandwich that was delicious. Lots of thinly sliced prosciutto a huge piece of mozzarella with big ripened tomatoes. My wife got a chicken caesar salad wrap. The portion was great and the real chicken was grilled perfectly. I of course have to mention the wonderful service. Always friendly and attentive. We may have to stop in more often. read more

This deli serves excellent food and is a popular local drinking spot. Service can be slow when they get busy but the large portions of inexpensively prices offerings is worth the wait. Sandwiches with a side of either coleslaw or French fries are only $9.00 and big enough to share. Their reubens are the size of Texas and delicious. I had a chicken sandwich with cheese and grilled red bell peppers. Yum! Parking doesn't really exist except for street parking that you will not get. Try parking illegally in the lot behind that belongs to other businesses. A sign warns you not to park for restaurants but we have never had a problem. Blasi's Big Belly Deli is locate on a hilly part of Adams Street, just off Galivan Boulevard. Blasi's is across the street from the Eirie Pub so there is competition for cheap prices and huge portions of delicious food. The menu is large and diverse. The next time I dine at Blasi's, I will try to remember to take photos of the menu. read more

Our first day arriving in boston off a brutally exhausting red eye flight, sabra and I stumbled deliriously off the plane with smeared mascara and vodka breath..... we were immediately hit by the harsh reality that is the east coast in summer. Blistering smoldering sweaty wet tortuous humidity. our hair and clothes were plastered to our skin-- and my forehead felt like a lake was forming up there.(well I have a big forehead so...) thankfully our wonderful friend "G" picked us up in his pretty air conditioned car and whisked us off the Dorchester to see his bachelor pad. I had never experienced anything like this place. Dorchester was like something out of a movie... I actually turned to sabra at one point and said aloud "this is so surreal, is this actually happening?" there we were, standing in the middle of a quaint boston neighborhood where everyone has lived for at least 40 + years and is irish catholic. we stood there next to the church chatting with about 5 boston cops wearing kilts who don't pronounce the letter "r" and listened to bag pipes playing in the distance we knew this was the real thing. The real boston. All I wanted to do at that point was pour the water on my forehead into a big glass and go find a cold sam adams somewhere.... and that's what we did. G took us to Blasis. A small bar and grille in the heart of if all this irish madness. I got the steak tips and a tall sam adams beer (naturally) and we watched the red sox. It was pure heaven. mmm, steak tips. The cute girl bartender overheard we were from SF and started gushing on and on how "cool" she thought SF was and that she had "heard" all the men in SF were fantastically gorgeous, rich and brilliant..... we just nodded at her knowingly. who were we to argue? read more

Owner sent me a nasty message right after I left my review... so let me clarify yes we each had one drink. My bf is a chef raised by chefs... when he doesnt even want to finish his food that's a bad sign. The owner suggested I get a life and hit McDonalds down the street -- funny I thought the same. Food just wasn't tasty ... the price seemed way too high for what we ordered. Nasty owner makes me confident I will not give Blasis another shot. He could have asked what was wrong with the food nicely -- scallops were powdered and overcooked no real bacon taste and the maple didnt pair that well, chicken parm was all bread and the burger was bland and very raw on the inside. It tasted a lot better after i microwaved the leftovers. read more

I am a fan of this place for a few reasons. 1. Large windows let in tons of light (I can see the menu for a change). 2. Service is prompt. 3. Decent selection of beers on tap and in bottles. 4. Here is my favorite part: I love the ability to "build" my own sandwich. You have multiple options to add different meats, cheeses and assorted other things such as hot peppers to a sandwich built on a number of fresh breads and rolls. Since the sandwiches are vast you can make yourself feel better by bagging the fries and ordering a side of streamed vegetables. Offsets the guilt of the sandwich, the beers and what ever else I manage to steal from my wife's plate. 5. Prices are fair. read more

I've been coming here for years and while it's not everyone's cup of tea, it really stands out as a great neighborhood spot for me. My most recent visit was last night. I generally stick to the deli sandwiches as my main course, because they're stuffed and delicious. I got a ham and cheese sandwich, as I normally do, because they use a nice imported ham normally (Danish, I believe) unless you ask for honey ham, which is also available. My guess is that the previous reviewer that called it "slimey" ham either had a fluke bad ham sandwich, or isn't used to Danish-type ham. Without exaggerating, I have probably had over thirty ham and cheese sandwiches at Blasi's in the last eight years or so and I've never had one that was less than *good* so I stand behind that. Italian, pastrami, and other specialty meats stand out as well as hearty and delicious options, especially on the fresh sub rolls! Another gem of the menu is simply one component of a number of meals - the tomato sauce. It is truly a slightly sweet, slightly savory blend of fantastic ingredients. I could eat it by the spoonful without hesitation. While it's great, as mentioned in a few lousy reviews, this is one of a number of items that induces a bit of heartburn. The fact is, though, that many of these homestyle recipes they use for stuffed peppers or tomato sauce don't pull any punches to make it mild or easier to eat. Some people should take Zantac, others don't need to. I love spice, and I've rarely had heartburn from Blasi's. My fiancee has had it a few times, but she also has a more sensitive stomach and takes something whenever she anticipates an issue in order to avoid it. This is reasonable, I'd say. You wouldn't rip an Indian restaurant because their curry was too spicy, right? Just how I see it, I guess. My fiancee often orders the eggplant rollatini, and swears by it. it usually looks and smells amazing despite my dislike for eggplant. I tried it a while back and it was decent. It's served over spaghetti or penne. We had the calamari appetizer again yesterday, as we had in the past, and it was great. Not the best ever, mind you, but great. We've had calamari twice already in the last week so it's hard to not compare. It was better than Remick's but not as good as Summer Shack. But damn near close. The breading was the best I've had on calamari in recent memory, but the texture was just shy of amazing. The tomato sauce served with it made up for that though, since I literally mopped up every drop of the stuff with the table bread! Service is pretty lousy here but I tell a lot of friends that pick on this point that it's a matter of expectation. In many circumstances, including mine, this is a neighborhood place with a lot of regulars and I know a handful of staff. When you see your friends, they're going to run to the other customers but not feel stressed out to check on you, usually, knowing that you're not going to walk out or complain. It's not a great scenario, but I don't need a lot of attention. Legal Sea Foods or Top of the Hub, this is not. I won't need special silverware or hand towelettes... I just need my food and a non-empty drink. They seem to generally be on top of those. The bar is usually mobbed with regulars, laborers and local blue-collar workers tossing back a few beers, keeping up on the Sox, Celts, Bruins and/or Pats. It makes it hard to get a beer without a wait sometimes... but it's nothing you don't run into elsewhere. Also... the wings here are great. And there is a kids menu too! There is ample on-street parking and there is a store lot across the street that is probably *technically* not for patrons of Blasi's and Fat Belly Deli but... I've never gotten a ticket. We've taken a number of friends and family to Blasi's over the years, well over a dozen, and we've only had one guest have a problem. Her tuna melt was not hot enough so they re-made it quickly and she was pleased. On the other hand, I routinely get text messages and Facebook posts from a pair of cousins in Phoenix saying they want Fat Belly Deli or can I mail them a sandwich from Blasi's... so... that might speak for the quality of the deli sandwiches if nothing else! A great neighborhood spot. No frills, nothing fancy, no foie gras... just good sandwiches, accessible homestyle entrees (mostly Italian), and some standout sides and apps. Worth a visit for sure. In a Gilmore Girls' Luke style twist, this one time, old school, family run hardware store was made over into a cafe and deli. Located in the heart of the Adams Village area of Dorchester, the "Fat Belly Deli" boast every possible combination for sub/wrap lovers. I personally love their chicken parm and their Italian sub. Small tables and a bar stocked with all the Irish owners' faves set the scene for lunch and dinner. Not a huge selection on the menu but they've got your pasta/chicken/salad staples and some noteworthy fish and steak options (always make a point to check the menu of daily specials). Personally, their dessert makes the entre worth sticking around for. Faves? Tiramisu and chocolate chip cannoli. A little pricey, especially given the selection. But the staff is super friendly, remember their return customers and are always willing to tweak the menu to get you what you like. If you're not willing to spend the $13-20 per entre (not counting drinks & dessert), stick to the deli. Huge subs will leave you with leftovers and your wallet only $5-6 lighter. read more

This is in my 'hood, which is the number one reason I made it over. And it only took me four years. Go figure. I'll get down to the business. I ordered a burger. No seasoning or flavor whatsoever. Fries were OK, but I didn't ask for Old Bay seasoning on them!!! Growing up near the Chesapeake Bay, I recognize Old Bay any day. I fancy the stuff on my crabs, but not on my fries. I digress. I tried the apple crisp for dessert. Sweet, but more apple than crisp. Beware: the menu description is so off. "Drizzle of caramel" was really a puddle of chocolate! I asked the waiter about this and he apologized. Apology accepted, but it needs to be fixed. The vanilla gelato that accompanied the crisp was great except for the tiny ice chunks in it. Came here for lunch with coworkers the other day, never actually been 'out' in Dorchester but the area is kind of cute. Also, the inside is Irishly cute as well with a sit down restaurant on one side and the take out deli on the other side. I go to a pub and what do I get? Metball sandwich. Omg, it was really good though, on a braided roll, with cole slaw. The slaw wasn't bad but it was totally the kind you buy in bulk from the grocery store. Roasted red peppers + Boursin cheese + juicy chicken breast sandwich = Happy Amy! An hour later, with massive heartburn... NOT such a happy Amy! Not that I fully blame Blasi's, of course. I chose to eat more than a handful of their grease-saturated fries, and half of my aforementioned sandwich. I'm pretty sure there was some raw garlic hiding on it, hence the searing chest pain I experienced later. Really tiny, cozy, neighborhood bar/ restaurant. We got great service, even though the kitchen was only open for about 15 minutes by the time we got there. If I was in the area, I would stop in again... great place for a couple of beers and a really good sandwich. I would definitely follow previous reviewers' advice and go for something from the deli. Blasi's is a neighborhood favorite. It draws a good crowd from around Dorchester and beyond. There is a mix here of a deli on one side and a restaurant/bar on the other. The noise level can be a little high when they're crowded but as long as you don't mind that the atmosphere is casual and comfortable. I typically order from the specials menu because, as a frequent visitor, the regular menu has remained a little static for my taste. As a new visitor, you'll find some good choices on the regular menu. My recommendations would be the steak tips and chicken parm. The specials menu typically features a fish of some sort that it consistently fresh and delicious. The burgers are also a favorite for lunch or dinner and any of the sandwiches make a great lunch. The prices are on target for the quality of the food although some items are a better value than others, and the staff in amazing. Billy is a great waiter/bartender but you really can't go wrong with any of the locals that work there. read more

It was hard to narrow down our choices since we liked the sound of several menu items and were tempted as other items passed by our table. Fantastic neighborhood spot - whether you're eating at Blasi's or getting take out it's always good! Their menu has anything you could want and it's all delicious! My family regularly gets take out from Blasi's and it's a hit every time. Their chicken caesar wraps, cheese burgers, eggplant rollatini, and meatball subs are just a few of our favorites. Speaking of subs - they have a deli at the entrance of the cafe and use their own freshly cut cold cuts for their sandwiches - it's so yummy (their italian sub is to die for). Went there a few weeks ago in the early afternoon for drinks and apps and it was perfect. The staff was so attentive and sweet and the food was great, we got fried calamari and bruschetta and it hit the spot! So reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food that you're getting!
