We just had dinner here. We got the 3 courses for $29. My wife and I ended up getting Penne Alla Vodka, Chicken Parm, Mussels in tomato sauce, Calamari Fritti , Cannoli and Chocolate Chips Skillet. We didn't really have high expectations because of the mixed reviews online but want to give them a try. The service was good. Food came out in a reasonable pace. The staff packed up what we couldn't finish. The portions were huge. I thought that since it's a special it would be a small serving size. The Penne Alla Vodka had a rich tasty sauce. The Chicken Parm was yummy. It came with two pieces of chicken in a rich cheesy sauce. The pasta was perfectly Al dente. The calamari was crispy and well seasoned. The mussels were fresh and had a tasty sauce. The desserts were sweet and delicious. Overall, a great deal and amazing experience. Would recommend for anyone

You can smell the delicious aroma of well seasoned food as soon as you enter the parking lot. The service is amazing. The mussels were so tender, juicy, and flavorful. The cannoli were the best I've ever had (better than any place in the North End).

The new Maria's: good, not great. Satisfying, not impressive. My friend and I came in on a Friday night to check the place out. We started with arancini, which was on special. It was one large-ish arancini that was stuffed with cheese and mushrooms, which I loved. For my entree, I ordered eggplant parm. It was a soft, layered eggplant as opposed to a thin crispy eggplant, which I prefer. I appreciated that the pasta was homemade, which was delicious. Overall, I would recommend checking this place out but don't expect it to be anything like the old Maria's :(

Delicious forgot the name but started with von and it was fantastic

Ask the Community - Maria's Trattoria

    Is this under new ownership?

    yes

It has been six weeks and it has been closed it’s something going on or are they still on the needed vacation?

Yes, Maria's has closed but there will be a new restaurant opening in the same location and it will be called Maria's Trattoria. From what I hear it will be similar to the original Maria's.

There is no reason to make a table wait 10 to 15 minutes to get their drinks when the bar is 50 feet from the table and we can clearly see there are 3-4 people behind the bar not doing anything. The food is not made upon ordering. I tried to order the penne vodka without the bacon in the sauce. I was told that "that's the way it comes." So it was pretty clear that the cook is not making any sauce when you order it. (This isn't a red sauce that takes hours.) The pasta is from a box so the prices that they charge for it are not justified. Overly loud Spanish love ballad music was playing at 5 PM in this nearly empty restaurant. Between that and the gigantic white feather decorations just over my partner's head I would say the vibes were off. My partner had seen this restaurant while walking around and thought it could be a good place to try out. He was pretty upset that the restaurant was so meh and that he took me there for my birthday. Bad music. Bad decor. Bad service. Mediocre food.

I saw some delicious sounding seafood, steak and Italian dishes as well as salads and appetizers on the menu and since I was more in the mood for a steak I picked the Filet Mignon as my entree. They had two different sized cuts that they were offering and I decided to go with the smaller one. It was very delicious and I got the mashed potatoes as a side dish which was also very good. I happened to be there during a busy lunch hour so the place was a bit noisy but nothing too overwhelming. It did take a little while for the meal to be served but it was well worth the wait. The prices are a bit high but you definitely get what you pay for. I really liked this restaurant and I will definitely consider dining with them at one of their other locations within the Boston area.

When it comes to steaks, I rarely eat out because I have a paranoia of being let down. I always buy my meat from a butcher and cook them beautifully on a charcoal (yes, if you cook on propane it's not actually grilling - poser) grill. This trip to Amelias reinforced why I shouldn't stray from handling good meat myself. The place itself is cool, my grandmother was very impressed which is honestly all that matters. Of course she was enamored by the bread options and the whipped butter with olive oil was honestly a nice touch. I ordered a bottle of pellegrino and was surprised the waitress never topped me off (get your mind out of the gutter). Whatever, I had to serve my own drink but at a place of that caliber you'd think the wait staff would understand that when a bottle of any sort is purchased they should be asking the diners if they'd like a refill. We ordered the tuna tartare and my grandmother had never even heard of such a dish before. She enjoyed a bite and then I inhaled the rest - yes I am fat and hungry NOT SORRY. We ordered our steaks and I got excited too soon. I can't help but shake my head, I NEVER get steaks out any more because even at steak houses I am most often let down. I am not trying to sound cheap but at $68 a steak I am expecting a melt in your mouth masterpiece (that's what they used to call me back in the day) and honestly the meat we got was a MAJOR let down. Steak alone has it's flavor and this piece was lacking. They overcooked it and it was genuinely tough even with the LITTLE pink they allowed me to enjoy. I was really heartbroken but the only reconciliation for this was that my aged grandmother was ecstatic and this meal wasn't for me, it was an attempt to treat my grandmother to what could be one of her last few really special meals. For her it was and that's the only reason I'm not giving this place two stars.
