My first time here. I've heard non-Italians describe the food as Boston quality--it's solidly good, but I'm not ready to commit to North End comparable. The interior is dark and Old World--hasn't changed since Sinatra was alive. ;) We were seated immediately because we arrived at 5pm. They only accept reservations for parties of 6+. CASH ONLY as well. Our server, Patty, was brusk but super friendly--as usual, so many restaurants understaffing, so these servers are hustling! Bread service is bread and butter (no dipping oil?) but I appreciate them offering it when so many places have discontinued the service. I had the veal/eggplant combo with a side salad (blue cheese) and enjoyed it with a glass of Chianti; my friend had the eggplant with side salad (house Italian). I was excited that real spumoni was on the dessert menu (with claret sauce and no silly chocolate shell coating). My friend, the ultimate cappuccino aficionado, was super disappointed to learn that La Scala does not use a real espresso machine and the push button option was not gonna cut it. A friend recommended this restaurant to me and since I love Italian food I decided to go and try it out. I was promptly seated and my server came over to the table right away to take my drink order while I browsed the menu. There is a very good selection of meals to pick from. They are best known for their Italian dishes but you can also get seafood, steak and such. There was quite a bit on the menu that sounded good but I picked the Veal Parmigiana as my entree. All of the meals here include a choice of salad or pasta. Since I wanted to try both I ordered a side of pasta with my meal and for a few dollars more I added a side salad. They do serve complimentary Italian bread with the meals here but since I was in the mood for some garlic bread I ordered that as my appetizer. The Veal Parmigiana was excellent and the pasta that came with it was delicious as well. The side salad that I ordered came with Italian dressing which was also very delicious and tasted like it was homemade. The garlic bread was very tasty as well. The atmosphere was quiet and I really enjoyed my meal. I will definitely come back here for lunch or dinner. read more

Traveling from Texas to Maine and ate here for dinner. Food was good, service was great and atmosphere was good as we came a little late around 830pm. My only complaint is it's CASH ONLY! No credit cards so you have to use their ATM, inside building, which charges $1.25 fee. I still do recommend eating here just bring cash. read more

The restaurant has ample parking in the front and rear of the buiding. This place is very popular with the locals and the ambience is classy and dated. Service is excellent and we loved our waitress. For the bread, definitely ask for the dipping sauce over the butter. It brings it to the next level. The oysters Rockefeller came out extremely hot and was an interesting appetizer. I got the chicken exquisito, it isn't something I would get again with the brandy taste strong for my tastes. The ravioli side that came with it was delicious and I'll get that as a meal next. I've been to this place a lot of times but last night was my best meal. The appetizer meatballs in marinara and stuffed eggplant was on point. Now the wine we had was paired perfect with my meal. She didn't let us know until my mother asked about an item on the menu and she had to double check. She could have mentioned that when introducing herself. - My mother asked for dressing on the side, but they put it on the salad. - I waited for the server to return to the table say thanks before I left. I was walking to my car outside and she flagged me down to make sure I paid as someone earlier that day didn't pay. They don't take card, and I definitely placed the cash directly under the receipt. Been here 3 time in different occasions. The first time was ok the last 2 times was not good at all... the host and hostess is very accommodating. The service is just not up to par. It's a cash only restaurant which is fine and there is an ATM machine on site just incase . The portions are fairly generous. The mix drinks needs more work, so I stop having mix drinks there and stick with wine. The food is on a salty side. The restaurant is old so it can use some updates to bring it to life again. When you walk in it feels cozy and fancy but not too serious. It was like walking into a place I've been a million times even though it was my first time. The food was really good with fair prices most Italian restaurants put some pasta on a plate and charge you $30+ and it's not even that good. That's definitely not the case here. The food is flavorful and portions and prices are great. Service is attentive and they are great for recommendations if you're between a couple different items. Meatballs are a must but make sure you get it with ricotta. Leave room for dessert we got the affogato and bread pudding it's definitely worth it, the bread pudding is big enough for two but you'll probably eat the whole thing. Been here many times over the years. This is one of our "family" places. The food is standard Italian fare meaning its definitely OK but certainly not gourmet. Honestly mostly enjoyable and hitting the spot every time. It is certainly priced reasonably and the portions are decent but not overwhelming and like wow. If I dont eat bread I can easily finish whereas some places I already know I'm bringing half home. Cash only, however they do have an ATM. We used to dine in here and service while not over the top was always good. Since the pandemic we have gotten take out quite a few times as my brother swears by the place and has "family" loyalty and since he often foots the bill I dont say nuthin haha. But for Yelpers with a need to know tonight The Veal Scaloppini was super oily too much for even the Angel hair to absorb. The veal and eggplant parm was very good though I had requested the veal be crispy and it was not. The bummer was the fettuccini alfredo with chicken. Dry and pasty and the thinly sliced chicken couldn't hold the heat and was likewise dry. Thinking it was 4 pm and the cusp of the changeover to dinner and perhaps it was still there from then. Ordered 3 orders garlic role got only one I did not see the receipt so I cannot say we were overcharged and I think not I just think the lady taking the call botched up. When I came to pick up was super early so I sat at the bar and was happy they had a Fiddlehead IPA with tip $10 but hey I read the NY Times for the first time in years Good paper! So I am full now always a good time to review. I'm happy to be able to still afford to have restaraunt cooked meals. I don't think that this is an experience that qualifies for destination dining. Almost stepping back in time due to the Italian menu with all the expected classics and ambiance that I recall from the 1980's and 1990's. When a loaf of bread greets you upon arrival. We both had Chicken and eggplant Parmesan with ravioli. Plenty of sauce for dipping your bread. The creamiest ravioli that I've ever had. We finished with a cannoli. I went to La Scala a while back located on North Main Street in Randolph. A traditional decor of an Italian restaurant. Price is a little more expensive than a normal Italian restaurant but the decor is more upscale, white tablecloth kind of feel. I had the pollo pasta for $36, large portions and decent amount of chicken. Great service and always checked in on us. They also have some good appetizers that are for sure sharable for the portions. read more

Here's my not so great - it's cash only here. And - that's not totally obvious when you come on / on the menu/ server doesn't inform when taking order . Luckily- there's at ATM in the bar (that you'll pay a fee to use ) but - if you're going to operate cash only it should be blatantly obvious to your patrons when they enter . Insides pretty outdated - typical old school townie Italian spot. Outside was riddled with cigarette butts which isn't the most appealing. It looks stylish and welcoming from outside and is even more beautiful inside. We came once last year during summer and sat outside on the nice porch, and discovered La Scala serves delicious manicotti. This time we just came for drinks (knowing that La Scala is possibly the only place in Randolph area who knows and makes Aperol Spritz ) . We recently went for lunch at LaScala in Randolph. We have not been there for quite a while. Our waitress was an older woman with hearing loss. Although she tried very hard to keep up with all of her duties, she had a tough time. The manager should provide her with a bit of help. While we were eating our lunch we noticed fruit flies hovering around our table. I know not much can be done to eliminate this problem while patrons are in the restaurant. The insects are unsanitary and something should be done immediately to remove the problem. Our food was average and reasonably priced. The bread was delicious and brought back pleasant memories of La Scala of the past. We ordered 2 desserts for the table. They were nothing special and would not bother ordering them again. I hope we just experienced an off day and will get the chance to enjoy our meal during our next visit. Maybe next time! Try harder! read more
