Fried calamari
Rudy M.

This place has a nice ambiance. They have many indoor seats and outdoor seats. Servers are nice and friendly. They are knowledgeable of which food is good and not. I ordered fried calamari and linguine with clam. Calamari was served with a sauce that tasted like spicy mayo. The clam was okay but pasta came a bit overcooked and it came with too much pasta sauce, which made the pasta a bit soggy. Overall the food are great.

Stopped in 6 on a Saturday nite. Not many people for a place that's been in business for years now. Waitress seemed new ,forgetful and not up on menu items . She was pleasant though. The bread was very fresh with a nice crust that came with a spicy hummus dip. Apps were eggplant which was ok. And mussels in a tomato sauce that were good. Meals were a lasagna with a special order meatball. Meatball was tiny and not eventful. Lasagna ok. Chicken parm was typical and just ok. Bolognese was good from what I'm told. I thought this place was supposed to serve Mediterranean food ? Has a rather decent bar with about 12 seats. Cozy place. Overall the experience was just ok. Nothing to write home about.

I live in the condo complex next to this restaurant and my bedroom is pretty much above their patio. This year had been awful for patio parties lasting past 10 pm super loudly. I've called and the phone just rings, eventually going to a full voicemail. I get that people want to have fun but it's so loud that I can't sleep!

Fettuccine bolognese

A decent spot worth trying, but I probably wouldn't go again. It's a quaint place with a good amount of seats, but the setup makes it so loud. I mainly came for the buck a shuck on Wednesday after 5pm, but when we got there at 6pm they were out of oysters. For food we ordered the linguine with clams and fettuccine bolognese. The portion size was good I enjoyed the meal, but the taste doesn't justify the expensive prices.

Waitress was super nice and helpful and food was good but after eating I saw a rat literally running around at the table next to me!!!!!! I am traumatized Please don't eat here!!!!!!

Gyro and chips for lunch...
S T.

I stopped by to pick up a gyro for lunch. The presentation was FAIR. Taste was OK. The meat was more like a burger patty and not cut off a rotisserie. Chips appear to be made in house, but likely not today. The place looks good and the person who took my order was polite.

Highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent food, made to order. Attentive, friendly service. Menu is fabulous, something for everyone and generous portions. Outside & inside seating. Chef/ owner is always there which is why it is so great! We enjoyed lamb chops, cauliflower gnocchi, eggplant parm and stuffed pork chop. Nice reasonably priced wine selection.

They have a great 3 course pasta meal deal that I got last time but I remember seeing the Pork Milanese on another table and I knew I had to get that this time. We started our meal with fried brussels sprouts that came with large chunks of pancetta and a apple cider reduction. All the flavors worked well to balance each other out, we attempted to recreate this delicious combo several days later at home. Next came the Verdi insalata, which was an arugula and watercress salad with apple, pistachio and balsamic, a refreshing followup to the brussels sprouts. Next came the massive pork milanese, it's a show stopper. The breading is impossibly crunchy and not oily at all, while the pork was juicy and flavorful. There was a citrusy fennel salad on top and that paired really well with the fried pork. Every course of our meal exceeded our expectations and I am excited to come back next time to see what's new on the menu.

I really think the flavors this place serves are up there with north end restaurants, maybe even better. $36 pasta special is an unreal deal for the quality of great food you get. Plus, free garage parking is an amazing perk. Will continue coming back to this awesome spot.

We loved. Proceeded to order 2 burgers, fries and grilled carrots. The food was amazing. Given the most welcoming greeting and service, coupled with delicious food, I could not recommend this place any more. Truly a gem in Southie!

You know when you're eating a kale salad and the pieces are too big and you're kind of cramming them into your mouth and then the salad dressing is all over your face? This is NOT that salad! The kale is perfectly chopped so you can enjoy it with just your fork as you talk to your friend/spouse/date or just read your book. The dressing is such perfection, and the perfect amount, no gloopiness here! Crunchy breadcrumbs add magical texture and then there's a shower of finely grated gouda cheese on top. Have you ever read a good book and as you're reading it, you're so into it that you don't want it to end? So you slow down your reading speed to make it last a little longer? That's how I feel about this salad. There are other delicious items on the menu, I saw someone eating the burger that looked so good, I also want to try the Brussels but the call of the salad siren is too strong. Everyone is super welcoming and friendly, especially Catherine, and the kitchen team even shared the dressing recipe with me. Excellent wine list, casual and cozy space with twinkle lights, a lot of bar/counter seating, great date spot. Also attached/sister company to American Provisions I believe (great spot in Southie for sandwiches, cheeses, wines, pastries, rare food items).

It was a small gathering (just 4 of us) and this seemed like a fun thing to do. We've been to SOT a few times and it's always been great. I checked the website to see if there was a Thanksgiving menu, and there wasn't. This suited us just fine because we love the menu. Our out-of-town guest brought desserts, so the plan was to have dinner at SOT and dessert at home. Imagine our shock to arrive and find an unappetizing and expensive prix fixe Thanksgiving menu. I had the Caesar salad which was utter slop. It was like a packaged Dole salad, but far worse because there was too much dressing and too much cheese. Upon further reflection, I'm not sure this *wasn't* a bagged salad that someone tried to spruce up with more dressing and cheese. Blech. Two of us went against our better judgement and got the $72 (!) Thanksgiving entree and it was slop too: Slices of dry turkey piled atop gross stuffing with a pile of squash on one side and a scoop of mashed potatoes on the other, all slathered in nasty brown gravy. The cranberry sauce was the only good thing and it helped ameliorate the shabbiness, but there wasn't enough of it to save this unappealing orgy of brown food. It was sad that there was no vegetable in this entree, but I guess vegetables would have been too difficult to pull off for the crowds they had. Two of us got the haddock and said the corn chowder with bacon was much too salty. Dessert was nothing special. Before being seated, there was the chaos we encountered at the front of the house. The restaurant was clearly overbooked. We got there at 5:05 for our 5:15 reservation to find the area from the bar to the front door packed with people waiting to be seated. A senior citizen was sitting sadly on a chair by the front door, getting blasts of cold air every time the door opened. When she and her party were seated I had my mother (80 years old) sit on the lone chair. People just kept piling in... it was loud, stressful, and dangerous. KUDOS TO THE STAFF FOR ENDURING THIS LEVEL OF CHAOS WITH PATIENCE AND GRACE! The second star is for them. I have to ask: Did someone at SOT decide to foist a Thanksgiving menu upon everyone at the last minute? If I'd seen that menu I wouldn't have made a reservation. I've always liked SOT but I'm not sure we'll ever go back. We had fun together because the atmosphere there is always festive, but we truly felt insulted by that dinner, and bamboozled by having to order from a menu we didn't expect. Our dinner came up to $316, $386 with tip. If the food had been spectacular we wouldn't have minded, but this was shameful. The owners will have made a killing yesterday, but this experience killed our Thanksgiving. NO THANKS AND NEVER AGAIN.

Unfortunately, this most recent visit didn't live up to the high standards I've come to expect. While a few dishes hit the mark, the majority of our order was a letdown: Tinned Octopus: Surprisingly chewy and lacked seasoning. Mushroom Toast: The texture was rubbery, and the flavor was completely drowned out by an aggressive amount of balsamic. Beets: Had a very overwhelming cumin flavor that threw the dish out of balance. Roast Beef Slider: Served cold and felt a bit uninspired. It's such a cute, intimate space, and I've had so many wonderful nights here in the past, but the execution was just off this time around. I'm hoping it was just an off night, but it was definitely disappointing given how much I usually love this place!

The wine selection is excellent and thoughtfully curated -- whites, reds, bubbles, orange wines, and more, so there's truly something for every palate. Our server was super friendly and attentive, and she even offered a few samples so we could try before committing to a full glass, which we really appreciated. For food, we shared the hot dog with fried oysters to pair with the wine, and it was surprisingly delicious and a fun, elevated bar bite. Overall, the experience was fantastic -- great wine, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Pricing is definitely on the higher end, with wine glasses around $20 and the hot dog at $14, but the quality and experience justify it. I'd absolutely come back for another wine night.

She helped make the night a really good time out. My gf and I split the Fra Diavalo and the Burger. The Fra Diavolo as excellent in terms of taste, al dente buccatini (serious chew) and the seafood. What we didn't understand was why we got so little pasta in the dish. To be honest, it seemed like we got half an order of the buccatini which was a shame since the shellfish was great, sauce was great and again, pasta cooked perfectly. We will make sure to ask for more when we return. The focaccia and butter to mop up the remaining sauce at the end was phenomenal. We will probably try to order meatballs, sauce and bread & butter next time. It should be on the menu. The burger was also excellent. The burger itself was extremely tasty, I hope they don't move to cheaper beef due to rising prices. Add a dollar if you need to. Overall, a great night. I will say I think the deserts are a little pricey. We really wanted the baked Alaska but $14 seemed a little high. At $12 we would have ordered it. Half of it was COLD and the other half luke-warm. Makes me think it was a microwaved dish. For my entree, I ordered the bucatini & meatballs. The bucatini by itself was good pasta, but the bland sauce and meatballs ruined it. Both were lacking flavor and meatballs were so dry, they were crumbling on my plate. We ordered the tiramisu cake to share for dessert, which was easily the best part of my meal and what I'm giving 2 stars for.
