We've been coming here for years to celebrate special family events but it's a great place to go for a drink or a nice meal in a beautiful tavern. Consistently great service, warm and inviting atmosphere and top notch food make this a special dining experience.

Ughhh. It pains me to write this because I love this place but I had a less-than-stellar experience here recently.... My girlfriends and I came here for our annual Christmas dinner. We all ordered salads to start. I got the scarlet salad. While the flavor was delicious, the salad felt "cheap & flimsy." Like they were afraid to put too many ingredients on my plate. For my entree, I ordered the filet mignon (medium-rare) with mashed potatoes and spinach. The steak was cooked correctly but dry as a bone. Not juicy or flavorful. My friend got the same steak and commented that she wished she ordered a sauce with it and I agree! For dessert, I ordered the maple bread pudding. Even though it was good/average, it was the best part of my meal...

The first impression was a county Inn! With lots of nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy a meal or drinks! The wait was not long and we got the best table that was near the entrance for at least 5 and very secluded from other diners! The staff waitress Giada who was super attentive and pleasant! Our guest host ordered for us and was happy to do so! When the food arrived it was plated perfectly and yet it tasted better than perfectly! The whole dinning experience was enjoyable and the atmosphere perfect! I can say that the menu was varied and interesting!

Absolutely charming spot, I loved the ambiance there, you can smell the fireplace when you enter. We were seated by the fireplace and had an excellent waiter. We ordered baked brie and carbonara ravioli for apps, caesar salad and hangar steak frites for entree, and I ordered the bogged down drink. Everything was really good, if they had more vegetarian options, it'll be a 5 but this restaurant isn't catered to vegetarians, regardless my boyfriend said the food was really good. They also had complimentary cornbread.

Very nice place, it's busy so make a reservation. Hunted this place down after finding out it has the same folks as Gibbet Hill running it. Many like dishes on the menu, but then some different ones. Good dink selection and wine list. Everything was very tasty. Albeit the crab cheddar dip could use some lump crab meat to put it over the top. My filet was good perfect and the onion rings were spot on.

I really do not like to write negative reviews but sometimes it is necessary. I took some elderly folks for a nice lunch on a beautiful day. There were 4 of us. Ned was our server and was spot on from start to finish. Now for the food.. 2 Reubens, 1 Cobb salad and 1 watermelon/feta salad with candied walnuts. The Reuben's barely had any MEAT IN THEM.. I mean they were as flat looking as flat looking could be..we both literally removed everything from one half of the sandwich and put it into the other half to make a decent sandwich which still was not what I have had so many times at other restaurants. Ned asked how everything was so I told him. He asked if I wanted something else.. I said no I wanted a good Reuben. The watermelon/feta salad was not at all to her liking and she said she would not order it again. The elderly gentleman enjoyed his Cobb salad thank goodness. The manager did come by to speak to us and I told him exactly what I am writing in this review.. that it was a flat with no meat and he responded " well we do put a press on them on the grill!" The sandwiches were flat because they HAD SO LITTLE MEAT IN THEM! Ugh it will be a long time before any of us visit Scarlet Oak again! To be honest we all expected so much more!

Absolutely tremendous from beginning to end. Great food, great ambiance, great service. Our bartender was knowledgeable and kind. Our food was perfect, seafood prepared perfectly. Would come here again in a second.

Okay... greedy service and food was good but not great. I would return but for the price it might be a while before I make the return.

They have a great 3 course pasta meal deal that I got last time but I remember seeing the Pork Milanese on another table and I knew I had to get that this time. We started our meal with fried brussels sprouts that came with large chunks of pancetta and a apple cider reduction. All the flavors worked well to balance each other out, we attempted to recreate this delicious combo several days later at home. Next came the Verdi insalata, which was an arugula and watercress salad with apple, pistachio and balsamic, a refreshing followup to the brussels sprouts. Next came the massive pork milanese, it's a show stopper. The breading is impossibly crunchy and not oily at all, while the pork was juicy and flavorful. There was a citrusy fennel salad on top and that paired really well with the fried pork. Every course of our meal exceeded our expectations and I am excited to come back next time to see what's new on the menu.

We went for a date night and were decently surprised considering we live down the street and had no expectations knowing it's tough to find a modern spot in this neck of the woods. Better vibe for a girls night out or date night.

The Fermentary carries other local breweries' beer - Widowmaker, Vitamin Sea, Stellwagen, etc. They also carry all natural wines and have some snacks to munch on (the pretzel and queso are really good!). They made some nice upgrades. It seems brighter and maybe more seating. Only "negatives" we've seen are that they are very heavy on IPAs (mostly double and triples, the couple times we've been), which isn't too bad for us, because we really only drink IPAs, but if you're looking for a lager or an ale, your options might be limited. Also, they don't have cable, so if it's a local game you're trying to catch, you'll be out of luck. Notice they've had some events held there - seems like it would be a great spot for that (nice open space with fireplace and tv). This will definitely be our go-to for a laid back afternoon/early evening, quick drink or two. Definitely check it out!

No one was forgotten, no order was mixed up, no delays...just top tier customer service across the board. Now let's talk about the food...because wow. The bread basket came out fresh and warm (dangerously good), and set the tone immediately. I had the stuffed fish, and it was cooked to perfection--flavorful, well seasoned, and not heavy at all. Paired it with a fresh salad tossed in a mustard vinaigrette that was light, tangy, and just right. And the mocktails? So good. Crafted beautifully, refreshing, and not an afterthought like some places make them feel. What I love most is the consistency. The "togarashi-crusted" tuna was not crusted at all--completely bland, with no seasoning or flavor. It tasted like it had been frozen, thawed, and simply dropped into the bowl. The rest of the ingredients were just as underwhelming. Everything was placed in separate, unappealing mounds around the bowl: a pile of tasteless sushi rice with a few sesame seeds, hard and underripe avocados chunks, unseasoned raw shredded carrots, smashed vinegar cucumbers with no trace of cilantro and beside that were the overpowering pickled red onions. To make matters worse, it all sat awkwardly on top of a mayonnaise ginger-soy aioli that did nothing to bring the dish together. There was no balance, no cohesion, and absolutely no flavor. It looked unappetizing and tasted even worse. I barely touched it. The server never asked why, and even if she had, I was with coworkers and wouldn't have felt comfortable saying how bad it was. For $28, this was unacceptable. Honestly, it felt like something a child threw together--bland, poorly executed, and completely lacking care. Would not order again.
