A local we were visiting recommended the Corner Stop Eatery as a good alternative to the on the beach seafood focused options for a nice dinner in Hull. In many ways it delivered. The appetizer options were plentiful and definitely recommend the flatbreads. We had the Wild Mushroom that had a heavy dose of the kale-basil drizzle. And it's a big round pizza, not one of the typical small rectangles that get downsized for apps. The "Seriously Roasted Brussels Sprouts" were indeed well roasted and had a generous amount of bacon mixed in. So good for those where bacon is always a plus, not so much for vegetarians. I opted for the scallops as my partner doesn't care for them so I don't fix them at home. They were excellent and come typically littleneck clams. They were out that night so substitute 3 big shrimp. All for shrimp and good size but definitely overcooked. It was all served on top of a bowlful of corn chowder with potato. Thinner than a chowder frankly but it was a nice combo of flavors for the underlying carb. If there was a downside it was the room. There are multiple but we ended up in the bar area with the towering ceiling that made it really loud. Great that there was some sort of locals celebration at the bar but their volume completely dominated the room so it was hard to hear among the four of us who were a distance away. read more

Sit at the bar with Jess or Joe - always a stellar experience. We just started going there about a month ago and now we are there 2+times a week Favorites- tuna tartare, dollar oysters, mom's meatballs, wings, tomato soup and flatbreads. All delish!! Haven't been to the corner stop in years since the first few years it was open. Made 5:30 Saturday reservation for 5 pp. inside the same with clean beachy vibe. Sat in dining room to the left as u enter. There was only one other group in there seated at the time. Good selection of drinks , menu on the smaller side for something for everyone. Waitress friendly but Took an unusually long time to get our drinks. They were very good however. We ordered our food and appetizers of oysters and clams . Our friends really enjoyed them. We ordered bread w spicy edamame humus which was very good but could have used more of the yummy toasted sourdough bread for the humus which was happily a big portion.Main entrees took again unusual long time to come out. At this time restaurant filling up. Restaurant can get very loud, had to raise our voices a bit while talking to hear one another. Entrees got thumbs up, herb chicken dinner, salmon burger, burger, Caesar salad was a side but big portion, delicious dressing , and fish tacos. Tacos were excellent. Fresh bit spicy, just the right size for 3 tacos. Overall food was very good and nice presentation, and I recommend, and I would go back, however service very slow but again friendly waitstaff and hostess. I typically like this place, I've lived near by for years and the staff has usually been so kind and helpful. However the last couple times I've gone the food has not been as good and the last time the manager at the bar area yelled at us because we asked about our order which was 40 minutes late!! He was so rude and said "forget it, I'm cancelling your order." We were not impolite when asking about our food so it was so shocking that he responded to us like this. This place is super cute! I went for a quick dinner and enjoyed the lychee sour cocktail, tuna tartare, fish tacos, and an ice cream dessert with pecans and salted caramel. The cocktail and tuna were my favorites but nothing was bad. The atmosphere is very interesting- casual but nicely designed. This place is absolutely fantastic. The service was impeccable, the design is friendly and warm even though the space is exceptionally large, the lighting and little touches are great. But that's not why you're reading this- you're reading about the food. It did NOT disappoint. Joe, the GM, recommended octopus, wings and mussels. They were all fantastic - wings were sticky and delicious without being saucy, the grilled octopus was perfect and the coconut broth was the star (ask for more bread! The broth is worth it) For mains we had a short rib with polenta and a duck breast. Both were PERFECT. Absolutely chef's kiss. My husband and I really like this place. We have been there several times and it has always been good. The drinks are quality and the drink specials creative. We have always eaten at the high tops in the bar which is a nice big open room with very high ceiling. The food is modern and I have never been disappointed. The poke bowls are excellent, the tuna tartare delicious and I have had the pork chop which was excellent too. There have been times where the food was slow in coming when it was crowded- but always worth the wait. Nice place to just have a drink too, but gets crowded on the weekends so go early or later. Downgrade from 2.5 to a 2.0 see prior review. Flatbread ( got a margarita and a sausage flatbread) just blah it's not awful ate 1/2 but if you want a flatbread, the Scarlet Oak is better, upgrade flat, try Toaca Cafe. Continuously, the Asian Chicken wings are a much better choice at a solid 3.8 - as this time was a take out, I put some blue cheese on them when I got home; actually a pretty good add to an otherwise solid choice there. Still like the inside experience at the bar, but otherwise. Had the worst experience and officially have taken this place off my Resturant list! We have eaten many times there, usually pretty good. I get that Resturant are hurting as far as waitstaff, help, etc. but this was not a night that there was a lack of help! We made reservations, we're seated, then forgotten about for 10 minutes. We tried to get the attention of the waitresses going by, but none could see us in the corner. Just as we were about to leave, a waitress came over and admitted our waitress had forgotten us and she would put our drink order in. Another 5 -8 minutes went by. The Resturant is not really gluten sensitive....you can always tell this when they have very few items in the GF choices. The meal was terrible!! I ordered the steak as it was one of the only things available GF, and it was so chewy I could barely eat it. Just continue on down to Red Sky for a great meal! read more

The food and service is great, and the prices are reasonable. The biggest problem is with the hostess. We are regulars, always make an early reservation, and rave about our meals. We usually stay about an hour. When we ask for a specific table (one person in our party has mobility issues) we are met with a hostile no. We would prefer to sit at a table near the exit with enough room to rest a cane and not too close to other tables as there needs to be enough space to get in and out. I am not sure why this is a problem, often when I request a certain table, she will say, that is reserved, then it remains empty along with the other table that would have worked for us. We are shoved in a tiny cramped corner that is uncomfortable for our situation. Also, the wait servers and staff are friendly and remember us, but the hostess does not have a clue that we have been going there for years. read more

I just had my second terrible experience of two visits. My first included an incompetent , very rude and obnoxious waiter who made many mistakes. The food came out in the wrong order and wasn't what we ordered. It took forever and was very disappointing. Our second experience was with take out. We were hoping that the first encounter was strictly the waiter's fault. It wasn't. The take out was a half an hour late and the food was ridiculously humorous. It made the decision very easy to never return again. The steak for the steak salad was $15 and was perhaps 3 oz. The marinara sauce for my son's pasta was perhaps a teaspoon of sauce. We had to open a jar of sauce and heat additional sauce to augment the serving. The kids burger for my daughter was about 2.5 oz. Tiny. Terrible place. read more

Tried something new and will start by saying we will come back again. I had the salmon burger w sweet potato fries and it was really good. The other person in my party had the Lamb Grinder. When it came he said it didn't look like what he was expecting, but said it was one of the best things he's ever eaten. Had the roasted Brussels sprouts as a starter and it too was great. Server was ok, pleasant enough, but not engaging either.. The one main criticism we had was this. We were there during $1.00 oyster time. The menu said "at the bar". We were seated a a high top 2 feet from the bar. When asked if our seat was included, we were told no. At the bar meant AT the bar. Not 2 ft from the bar. So the person 2 feet away had the same oysters we would have had for $3.50. Didn't make sense and so didn't order the oysters. Prices were reasonable, and as I said, would come back again. read more

Wandered into this place after finding it here, without knowing much about it. What a great experience! Everything we had, from cocktails to our meals, was top shelf. I had the burger, which was perfectly prepared and very tasty. My wife had the Gfilled Cheese and tomato soup combination and enjoyed both thoroughly. Our waitstaff was prompt and professional. We had a high top table in the main room - bright and airy. I think I prefered that tot he other dining rooms, so if you have a choice, I'd try to state it as a preference. It's a shame we aren't in the area more often, we'd definitely make it a point to stop. read more

Corner Stop is a fantastic spot. The room is awesome and the bar is a great place to hang. The design is really clean and tasteful, and some cold winter nights you can score the sofas in front of the fireplace. The new outdoor space is great. Always a good beer selection with some classics that you don't always see on other restaurants' menus. Cocktails are on point, and the wine program looks really well thought out. The servers are good and have tried everything on the menu, so they can actually describe dishes really well. Really surprised that some of these reviews are less than stellar. I love the food. It's a great menu. I've tried about 75% of the items I would guess. The burgers are super good, which not everywhere else gets right. Packed bowls are delicious, the duck breast is yummy.... I think one of the thing that's special about the Corner Stop is that they do a lot of things, a nice variety of items, really well. Everything is healthy, presented beautifully and just really good. Also, the kids menu is excellent. Reasonable portions, a good selection, veggies and a little sweet. The selections are typical of a kids menu, but you can tell quality ingredients and a lot of love go into the preparation. Like you'd make for your own kids at home if you were a pro. read more

The girls and I had their tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches... This was the best grilled cheese I've ever had! Let me start off by saying that I love this place and it was my first time here tonight and I'm so glad that my wife and I found this place because we will be returning here often. That being said I shall proceed with some of my basic point guideline reviews Parking: Ample free parking no issues Decor / ambience: Beautiful modern cozy high ceilings. Lots of Birchwood gives a nice organic feel Greeting: Prompt warm and inviting. Very happy to see us as if we were regulars even though it was our first time there Menu mix: Very creative, strong culinary talents and well thought out dishes. This is fine inner-city dining without having to travel to the city and pay a fortune for parking Does the water taste of bleach? Unfortunately this is one of my criteria points. And so many restaurants either fine dining or common dining you find this when you get regular water service. I'm a common guy so when I have water before a meal I like it right out of the pipe. I very rarely opt for the bottled water or sparkling that is sometimes offered. The water here did taste of bleach, thus the rinse cycle on the dish machine must be adjusted. Drink pour: Very nice pour here. My wife and I had a few glasses of wine and I was very happy with the generous pour. The prices were extremely reasonable too. Nothing I hate more than a skimpy pour glass of wine especially when you're paying so much for per glass Food quality: Fantastic top-notch, this is the stuff you going to find in the big city without having to travel there. This is a true local gem for foodies and people who simply like great food. It gives an extra five point advantage on food service and Ambience. Bar seating looks very inviting as well. It's a beautiful wraparound bar that's in the high ceiling section of the building, the fireplace is in full view towards the entrance end. There are also couches near the fireplace if you want to sit and have some cocktails. Just ate there again on 1/17/15. great meal! however the water still taste of bleach. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is for atmosphere because I love their restaurants interior design. My boyfriend and I got the stuffed clammies that were clearly frozen and heated up. We split the braised short ribs with cauliflower grits and the meat was drenched in jar sauce to cover up the dryness. Only good thing was the grits. Our waitress was beyond slow and never came to our table to offer more drinks. Another waiter had to do her job. Never apologized for being slow. When leaving she was rolling silverware laughing with hostess. If the manager was around I would 100% ask for a meal to be comped. This restaurant continues to disappoint in many ways. Today the served my draft beer in an liquor glass. I asked why and was told the owner wanted it done that way. Second beer was in a proper pint. Our food was bland and in the case of the fish sandwich dry with a burned bun. Who lets this out of the kitchen? Our family loves the Corner Stop! The hippy dippy salad with shrimp is delicious! The empanada with the braised short rib is fabulous and the bolognese and flatbreads are great too! We went to Corner Stop last night on a whim. Thursday night crowd meant the place was almost full but we got seated in less then five minutes. Our waitress was great, and she juggled a "high maintenance" table seated behind us, she never lost us in the effort to make everyone happy. She checked just enough without being overbearring. I got the fisherman's stew which was amazing. My wife got the hippy dippy, salad and tomato soup. Everything came out just like it should. We visited as a group of three on Tuesday, and we fairly disappointed with the menu (or lack thereof). The waitress was very friendly, but started by sharing all the menu items that were unavailable that evening (at least 5 items were changed or had been removed from the menu). The bar area tables filled up quickly, and the waitress was working alone and unable to give any table due attention. When the food finally came out, the sausage on the pizza was dry and old, and the macaroni and cheese would have been better if replaced by Kraft. The appetizer wings were tasty, though. The cocktails are always creative and delicious, but there are plenty of south shore spots with good drinks and an equally complimentary menu. read more
