True Score: 4.5 Stars Great Pizza This restaurant is a historic building built originally as a grain mill. It is a local place and is clean and simple with a small bar. It is known for its bar pizzas. We go once in awhile when we want a hardy homestyle meal like meatloaf or sandwiches for a reasonable price. This time I had the pot roast dinner with mashed potatoes and squash with extra gravy. Good hot meal and the meat was tender and tasty. I had fish and chips and thought it was delicious. The price is right. restaurant is clean, and it is across from the harbor and in walking distance to Hingham Square. Great bar pizza! The service and ambience is average. That's not a criticism. You don't go here for the ambience or service.... You go for the pizza and it's well worth it. Addictive pizza! You will enjoy every bite. This trumps Poopsie's pizza any day of the week (and yes, I know they are owned by the same people) and while it does take a while for the pizza to be ready, it comes out perfectly made each time. As opposed to Poopsies, where you wait an hour or more for your pizza and it comes out cold and overcooked!. We will definitely be back to Liberty!!! read more

Seriously good bar pizza. Perfectly crisp crust, tasty sauce and just enough so it isn't dry yet also isn't soggy. Very consistent. I have only gotten take out here but when I've gone in to pick it up the staff is always friendly and attentive. read more

Liberty Grille! Local place with a venue for special events, it doesn't look big from the outside but has lots of space to offer. I guess we didn't expect much but got it all! The bartender is the true heart of this place that reminds of doll house... We sat at the second raw and spying on the other guests behind the curtain, but also didn't get excluded from the annual derby conversation on the bar. Some of the locals even offered us to chip in their bet pool right upon our arrival. I drank home adjusted recipe for an espresso martini made by "Guy" and wasn't disappointed! We live nearby and love the bar pizza. Sometimes we eat there and remember when it had a full restaurant menu. That we miss. The takeout pizza is always busy and sometimes you have to give them a half hour to make your order. But the bartender/takeout server is a very cool and likeable character if you are a regular. Living in the New Haven area as, it's hard to find food that can compete with that in CT area. This past weekend I came across the Liberty Grille in Hingham Massachusetts, formerly known as the "Old Mill Grille". As a bar pie enthusiast, I was very eager to try this place as I had only heard great things. We ordered 3 small bar pies one with bacon, another with sausage and finally the good ole cheese bar pie. Right from when I took the first bite I knew this was a great decision by the crew. The bar pies Liberty Grille makes are the closest thing to competing with New Haven pizza. Crust was absolutely perfect. If I wasn't such a selfless person I probably would've eaten all 3 by myself. I'm disappointed I never got to stop into the restaurant but the next time I am in Hingham Massachusetts, I absolutely want to come in to check the place out sit at the bar with the drink and enjoy one more delicious bar pie. read more

Well there is a post COVID and pre COVID Liberty. They are two very different places. Pre COVID was full menu, family atmosphere and post bar pizza, chowder and cocktails only. Owning a family run bar during COVID most have been trying for the owner. However newsflash where was everybody during COVID to support this business during that down time. Nowhere to be found. It's a business and Christian the owner sharpened his pencil and found his best customers and profitability model were the local asses at the bar. Not the fluffy families and occasional passers bye who turn around and go to Starz. So I feel they made a decision, cator to the locals, the regulars. Which is fine. It's a business. Here is what you get, great chowder, a top 5 South Shore Bar Pizza if you don't know what that is or don't care to learn just don't. You also get Guy at the bar who makes the Best Bloody Mary between Boson and LA. You get a full bar menu and if you are lucky a seat at the bar where you might meat a real local with deep New England roots, shut your pie hole for a minute and listen. Enjoy your pizza and your beer and relish in the atmosphere of a 17th Century Pub that was serving the Colonists who built this great nation. I haven't been here for a while and it did not disappoint. Bar pizza doesn't get much better than this and after having this last night, I'd put it up there with Lynwoods or Poopsies. The crust is thinner more like Poopsies though. The chowder and fried seafood is also great here but it's tough to not at least grab a couple of pies to go. read more

Old school comfort food and solid local seafood. I love this place, again, decor reminiscent of the 1970s. Simple food prepared exceptionally well, and offered at better than reasonable prices. Great and friendly staff, plenty of parking. Good coffee and a full bar. College student, came in here alone for a late lunch. No one else was there except the cook and waitress. The waitress was rude and short. I ordered a cheeseburger, medium. She slaps down the plate, it's just meat and bread - walks away without asking if I need anything. I called after her (keep in mind, the place if very small and was empty) she ignored and kept walking. I get up and asked for some lettuce, ketchup. God forbid I interrupt her conversation. The hostess was probably one of the rudest people I've ever met. We walk in and the first thing the hostess says is "are you picking up takeout?" We proceed to say no and she goes well we only have pizza. She says find a seat, we sit down she gives us a menu, asks for drinks and immediately ask what we want. The drinks were super flat and did not taste right, but the pizza was very good. Our table was right by the door and we saw every interaction and every interaction was the same as ours but since they don't have the upstairs open they are very limited in seats so she turned many people away. She'd ask if they'd come in for takeout, they said no and again she said well we only have pizza they'd say that's fine and she was like well we have no seats and she'd turn around and walk away. She does not care about the customers or business. As we were leaving a couple came in and she did not acknowledge them whatsoever for at least five minutes. This is an oddly shaped establishment with mixed reviews. We tried the place because Stars and the Tosca Cafe had 25 and 45 min waits, respectively. It was 7 and we had an 8 PM movie to catch at the Loring Theater. So we walked to the Liberty Grill. The food was OK. I got Baked Stuffed Sole on special, and my friend got Fish and Chips which I had a bite of. It took a while to come out. We missed the first minute of our movie. The staff was OK, but I'm not certain they wanted to be there. I think the menus need to be cleaned. I'd go back and try a pizza. read more

It's a good place if you want to get a drink. Covid 19 literally killed the family atmosphere of this place. I waited for an hour and a half for my pizza which was literally the only option remaining on the menu. All the while being encouraged to buy alcoholic beverages from the bar unfortunately I do not drink. My friend and her four-year-old daughter were with me. We were told that they lost our order and it would be another 25 minutes at that point we just left. It's a real shame too. I was speaking with a patron sitting beside me and she said that they are making so much money doing the pizza and alcohol that they will not be going back to the old platform for which they were well-known . Let's start with I am from NY. So when it comes to pizza I know a few things. I literally have 9 pizzerias within a 2 mile radius of my home in Nassau county. So when my host stated we were having pizza from the very best Hingham has to offer I got excited. But that lasted as long as it took for her to unwrapped "the best pizza in Hingham". OMG I've literally have had frozen pizza that is far better than the garbage this place passes as pizza. Seriously try "Tree Tavern" frozen pizza - it's very good. I really don't get what all of the bad reviews are for. I think it's worth keeping in mind that a lot of those reviews are current. I had a nice time. I had their special of Lobster Mac and cheese, it was great. It was cheesy and full of huge chunks of lobster that were perfectly cooked. It was then topped and baked with bread crumbs that added a nice crunch to the Mac. The two people I interacted with, whom I gather are the couple who runs/owns the joint, were friendly and served me well. A lot of their food choices are fried... which I found challenging. But they did have a variety of broiled and non-fried options and pizza. If I were going to be in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to drop by. read more

Went there two week ago, our pizza was burned to a crisp. Previous trips there were OK, but this was bad. I can't believe she would bring that out to a table and serve it. Ewwwww. I won't be back. Perhaps the waitress and/or cook was new, this was a solitary experience. The bar is nice, cozy and friendly BTW. We were going to a movie nearby, no time to get anything else; and yes, they charged us full price. I didn't want 'to get worked up', it was a date night and I was out for some fun so I let it slide.
