True Score: 3.5 Stars Stuffed our face Visited VENUS III for the first time. Although it is coined as a sports bar it is more like a local friendly restraunt with pub food. Everyone had pizza except and loaded tots. Great selection of Pizza varieties. One person had a small chef's salad which was more than adequate. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone liked the pizza except for one person, who felt the sauce was a bit spicy and the crust was not cooked enough. Will return and give this another try. Overall satisfaction was good. Ordered take out and one of the pizzas had the wrong topping on on it. So they had to re-cook the pizza which took another 15 minutes.Instead of taking some money off or at least buying us a drink they did nothing just an apology from the hostess. Came in excited specifically for the bar pizza (the only reason to come here, honestly) and left annoyed and hungry instead. The waitress denied my valid REAL ID because it said "United States" under the address... which is literally how REAL IDs are formatted. If you're going to work somewhere that checks IDs, maybe learn what a real one looks like? She didn't even care to have someone else look or scan it or anything to actually check if it was real, she just said "ya i'm not serving you". Honestly, save yourself the headache and go down the street to Damien's. The pizza is better anyway, and at least they know how to recognize a legitimate ID. read more

The servers were rude from the start, rolling their eyes and making snide comments under their breath. When it came time to pay, one of them literally said "cough it up" while laughing at the kids. Completely unprofessional and humiliating. I don't care how busy a restaurant is -- there's no excuse for mocking paying customers, especially minors. We were polite and patient the entire time, but they treated us like we were a nuisance. The food wasn't even worth the disrespect -- lukewarm and way overpriced for the quality. As a parent, I was embarrassed and angry watching adults talk to teenagers that way. If you value respect and basic customer service, save yourself the frustration and go anywhere else. read more

Went to Venus 3 with family and friends Saturday night before Halloween. It wasn't very busy. They had a decent band, decorations and we liked the pizza and buffalo fingers. We wondered why it wasn't as busy as Halloween weekends past. There was no younger crowd there either. Almost everyone was 40+. After a short while, our waiter told us he was being sent home because they didn't need him. Nobody replaced him so his tables no longer got any service. The end of the night gave us more possible answers for the lack of customers. It was last call, a guy with a beard in a white dress shirt and khaki pants, with a Superman tee shirt came to clear our table and told us to grab our drinks or he was going to take them. One person in our party questioned his attitude and his response was "If you don't like it, you can get the F-out". This guy is on the Venus FB page wearing the same Clark Kent outfit over the last couple years for Halloween and may be a manager or owner. We no longer are wondering why there wasn't a larger crowd. If the attitude at this bar is "If you don't like it, you can get the F-out", the customers are going to choose to stay out. My guess is there's been enough of that vibe at Venus 3 where the customers have gotten the message loud and clear. And those customers have answered that message with their absence. read more

This is a good place to come and watch a game while having a few drinks. The bar area is huge and tvs are plentiful. Unfortunately, the food is just poor quality in my opinion. I ordered the "special pizza" (mushrooms, onions, green pepper) with laced edges. The mushrooms were canned (which I don't mind) but had a very strange look and texture, even for canned mushrooms! The green pepper was diced but I prefer them in slices or rings. The pizza failed big time as a bar pizza. I picked up a slice and it flopped down in all directions. The strangest part was the laced edges were also falling down and crumbling off the edge. I've had many, many, (too many) bar pizzas all over the south shore, and this is the first time I've had a laced edge just fall off the crust. It was so bizarre. I was also charged a dollar for said laced edges, which was also a first! I'd stick with the drinks at this place and eat somewhere else. read more

The only thing left good at Venus is their bar style pizza which I suspect was originally stolen from B&Rs restaurant years ago. Amaz how similar they are. But anyway... Venus has gone downhill alot! It is a sports bar / restaurant so I never went there looking for fine dining but it was always fairly consistent and relatively good food. But the last 3 times we stopped in there for a meal it has been a disaster. The first time they failed to seat us before they sat multiple couples ahead of us that came in well after us. We ended up leaving because we ran out of time. The next time they sat my Wife and 9 year old daughter at a high top in the bar. right beside a table with a couple speaking loudly about 2 gay people providing felicio on each other! When they asked to be reseated they were told it would be an hour! there were multiple open booths at the time... My wife was also served a mudslide when she requested a Rasberry Stolie and Sprite and the waitress begged her to just take it and she wouldn't be charged... which she was!!! They left without eating that night and went to 550 Tavern. Tonight we tried to have dinner there one last time. My daughter's favorite meal she ordered. Buffalo chicken fajitas! We have been getting them for years. The sizzling hot plate with buffalo chicken, the plate with all the veggies and cheese, the tortillas in the warming dish... You all know what fajitas are!! Well... Venus no longer does. She was served a fajita salad as I would describe it. We left Venus for the last time tonight. Something horrible has happened there. A new manager maybe? Maybe the restaurant is just going under and it's struggling to keep its head up? I'm not sure, but I've done my best to try to look past the couple last outings and tonight was the last straw. I could always say the food was still good, and like I said, I didn't expect first class dining there. But now the service sucks, the food sucks, and no one seems to care. Tried going to 2 other restaurants that were closed- and we ended up at Venus III. What a happy accident! We had a great lunch. They have a pretty good beer selection- we went with Juicy Haze IPA- which we sampled first. We started with Haddock Bites. It was the perfect amount of fried fish, but the star was the tartar sauce. I don't even like tartar sauce, but they make it fresh using dill instead of sweet pickles. I loved it so much I put it on my grilled chicken sandwich! My husband had the Cattleman chicken sandwich which had a tasty mustard based bbq sauce and smoky bacon that made him enjoy his meal all the more. Fries was good, but the cole slaw was the better side- fresh, crunchy, delicious. Very satisfying meal all around! Service was terrific- we sat bar adjacent- and she was busy, but still attentive. Located in the small country town of Hanson...not bad and kind of worth the trip. From Quincy to the boondocks is about 45 minutes. Country drive. Surprisingly the place looks like a normal meat head sports bar, getting beyond that the food is actually pretty good. Still a lot of sport meat heads and TVs. Had the onion soup, which was very nice. Salads are top shelf fresh. Bar pizzas are plentiful, artisan and delicious. Plenty of parking. Very nice and clean facility. Large too. Very nice staff. Living in Hanson certainly has its limitations. One of them are dine-in restaurants that you'd actually eat at, let alone bring guests in. Enter, Venus III. Atmosphere: Ample parking outside, the building Venus occupies is nearly as large. With a gargantuan wrap around bar, booth seating and high tops, I've never seen it "full". Great for large parties or a casual lunch. Lots of TVs with the day's sports goings-on. Often "noisy" but not loud. Service: All the waitresses I've been served by here are friendly and prompt. You're greeted by a hostess, which I always appreciate, versus waiting around like an idiot, trying to figure out if you're to seat yourself. A free bowl of popcorn is given to you as soon as you sit down, which is nice to nibble as you check out their absurdly huge menu. Food: You can order anything from appetizers to salads, wraps to burgers, pasta dishes to pizza. They seriously have almost anything you can imagine. However, as they say, "jack of all trades, master of none." That's my take on Venus' food. They spend so much energy diversifying the menu, but none of it has blown me away. Wraps (I've tried several) are a big "no thanks" from me-- usually dry and tasteless. The nachos (appetizer) were good-- and enough to feed an entire table, so don't order one for just you. Guests I've gone with were a bit more impressed than me; the pastas seem to be well received, albeit a bit bland. I've had the steak tips and while they weren't the best I've had, the amount you receive certainly makes up for the average quality. Fries are good-- don't miss out on them. Price: I love that they offer a $6 lunch meal deal, which is listed on an insert on the table. It's a great way to reel people like me in. Dinners will run the gamut, from $8 to $18, still fairly reasonable for what's usually epic portions. It would take the average person a year to get through their entire menu; I'm sure there's more than a couple gems in there. Once I've sniffed them out, the tome of a menu will seem a lot less daunting. read more
