We visited on a Wednesday early evening and the service was slow. Our waitress appeared to be buzzing around, but wasn't good about checking in with our table. We ordered some apps, but she forgot to take our food order until we were done with our apps. Once our food arrived, it was just OK. My hot honey chicken was dry. Did not have a lake view but comfortable atmosphere and nice bar area, lots of tvs for sports. Cool nostalgia on the walls w large black and white pics of movies, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller and Wise Guys...waiter was over quick w water and a decaf coffee. Our food came out quick as well. Great service. I had a side Caesar instead of fries w the shrimp op not wrap. That was an extra $2.50. Not thrilled but didn't want the fries. I loved the salad, portion was big and good ratio of fresh parm focaccia croutons and dressing,, tasty. The wrap was stuffed w flavorful lightly fried shrimp and a zesty creamy dressing w lettuce carrot and tomato, super good! Plenty of shrimp, no skimping there at all. Husband was not impressed with his garden salad and grilled chicken. Chicken had little flavor, small portion, and salad was chopped into very small pieces, not his thing. Shoutout to 550 for at last minute walk in of 16 people. The waitress was kind and friendly. The restaurant is super clean, updated and had a separation from the bar and seating. The food was great. Everyone got a variety of dishes, the biggest hit was definitely the taco salad! I loved the turkey tips with rice and tator tots (to pleas my inner child) good flavor on the tips, and they were juicy as well! If you are in the area definitely stop on by or if you are getting married at lake house come on by after your rehearsal. An extra $6 for chicken and this is what I got. What the hell???? This entire salad cost me $19 like it's some kind of gourmet restaurant and they give Subway quality chicken. I've been to this rustic place like once in the past and I thought I fell in love with it. Sadly, the waitresses aren't well. The one I had wasn't very friendly and I love the Christmas music that was playing . I love that they were decorating while we were sitting there eating. I had the mac & cheese and I added grilled chicken, onions and garlic to it.. She told me that I couldn't add onions and bacon but then they gave it to me anyway. The mac & cheese needed more cheese sauce. It was lacking sauce really bad. I've also tried the short rib roast dinner. It was not that wonderful sadly I don't have any pictures to show. Will I go back to this place? I don't know maybe I will ? if you like something on the menu It'll take you going back there, maybe I'll try something else on the menu but so far I've tried two things on the menu that weren't up to par so I don't know if it's a chef not know what he's doing or if they just stopped putting good quality food out, but I did not enjoy my time at 5:50 Tavern. Service was quick and the waitstaff was kind and friendly. Went in at 5:30 on a Sunday and was seated right away. We sat inside, but there was a beautiful sitting area outside by the water. Okay, this was my first time visiting this restaurant. First impressions are always the most important and 550 didn't disappoint. The food the 4 of us had was great. The beer selection was good. The service was fabulous. Not too much and not too little. We asked her to give us a few minutes to just chat amongst ourselves and Chloe did just that. She was ideal. Good first experience! My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night to check the place out after hearing good things... I ordered the tavern burger, medium-rare along with a pumpkin pie martini (tis the season). My burger was actually cooked to medium-rare (yay!). Fries were the "fast food" kind that are thin & crispy on the outside, hot & soft on the inside - I couldn't stop eating them. And that martini!! Definitely tasted like pumpkin pie in a glass. It was autumn heaven! My husband got the buffalo chicken mac & cheese. I tried a bite and thought it was great; buffalo flavor was there, but not overwhelming. We both really enjoyed our meals. Has gone down hill in last few years that only breakfast was worth getting now that's not even the case. They are so lazy with the home fries. They are just overly deep fired potatoes with zero seasoning and are nearly hollow inside from overcooking they must deep fry the onions with them because they are burnt to a crisp, Bacon always tastes like it was from yesterday. Used to be a local favorite of mine now it's just like every other local spot as long as there's business quality is out the window. read more

I'm not from this area but I was hanging with my niece and nephew and they love it here, so off we went. Honestly, it was a bit of a long day for us, so the extra few minutes it took for our drink order to come in was just a bit frustrating. Then I realized how packed it was for a Wednesday night. A cold night even. A place that has that big of a crowd in the middle of the week in winter must have some good things going on. In short, they do. I got the garden burger with fries. I'm not sure if there could be any improvement on their fries. They were actually quite perfect: crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, just the right amount of crunch, well seasoned... so good! My burger and dessert were also pretty good. They put a balsamic glaze on my burger which I wasn't too sure about but ended up inhaling it so seems like it did the job. We sat out on the patio. Ordered our meals with salads. Salads came out first and meals followed before we started our salads. (#1mistake). I ordered whole belly clams it was a special. What I got was clam strips that was(#2 mistake) another person at our table asked why he was receiving his steak with his salad no answer from server. So he asked for another steak to be cooked so as to eat his salad first then out would come a warm steak freshly cooked. This did happen but unfortunately it was received at the table 10 minutes after the rest of the party finished. (#3 mistake). Actually 10's we started off with our waiter Carl! Very nice, checked on our food and our drinks when he saw the mugs getting low! We only stopped in for a first time quick bite but definitely on the top of our list now. My wife had a cup of Broccoli soup was by any other restaurant bowl size and it was excellent, I had Nachos with spicy beef, best Nachos I've ever had, two different cheese used and the toppings were very fresh, the plate was huge and piled high, you could share but might want them all too yourself. The bathroom: first handicapped automatic doors inside and outside, first restaurant I've been to that had these, I'm handicapped makes a big difference! While staying at my sister's new house in Hanson, I had heard a lot about 550 Tavern being a fun restaurant nearby that has great food. I was staying at my sisters house for over a month so I had many opportunities to both get takeout from 550 and also dine there. We decided to do their brunch for Mother's Day. They were not accepting reservations, so we waited instead. The hostess was really kind to see that we were there with my son and trying to get in as quickly as possible. We only waited about 20 minutes, we got drinks at the bar and played Keno, then we were seated. It was great. I enjoyed it so much. The bartender was new but she made the most incredible espresso martini. My sister got a Irish coffee drink, while my husband enjoyed a bloody Mary. We all were very happy with our drinks. Also, having Keno there was very fun. The menu was good, the food was good, the service was good, everything was great. They also have an outdoor seating area, it isn't very big, but it does overlook the water which is adorable. Overall, having this place close by is awesome. It has such a fun and lively environment. It's also an event venue where people get married. The spot right on the water is a prime location, and since Hanson doesn't have that much for entertainment and nightlife, 550 is definitely a great option. read more

My partner and I called this 'south shore spice' after getting the buffalo cauliflower and having even the least spicy included of us in the group say that it was not hot and no one finding their Cajun or anything else hot. We've always have heard good things about The 550 Tavern in Halifax and we finally got to see for ourselves. We went in last week for breakfast. They have a wide variety of choices on their menu. My husband wanted a light breakfast so he had scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. I've never tried Southern Style Biscuits and Gravy so that's what I had with two eggs easy over and home fries. Wow, was that fantastic! It wasn't just plain old gravy but it had tons of sausage in the gravy. Everything was cooked to perfection and was served hot right from the kitchen. The portions were so large that we both brought some home and finished it for lunch. The waitress was very attentive and the service was excellent, always checking in with us to see if we needed anything. The restaurant was very clean as were the restrooms. I've visited 550 more than a dozen times since moving to Halifax. I've only ever had mediocre food twice (overcooked pizza, etc). Love being able to sit on the patio outside when it's warm out! Fantastic meal every time I eat there, super friendly staff, great views and has live music on the weekends!

We are a regular delivery customer. The food is always tasty and fresh. It usually comes to the house quite quickly... my husband knocks about 20 minutes off the quoted time and that's about when the food arrives. My hands-down favorite meal is the boneless fried chicken supreme. If this meal is your jam, then be assured the chicken shows up crispy and they have the best tasting supreme sauce in the area. I get it with mashed, but sometimes tater tots. My husband has tried some of the other things with varying degrees of success, but even he frequently gets the chicken supreme because it is just that good. read more
