It was me and my twins birthday on the 24th of June, so we took an afternoon trip to Cohasset, MA with the intent of getting lobster rolls from 5 South Main. Let me tell you... they did not disappoint. The rolls were perfectly buttery and warm, and absolutely loaded with fresh lobster meat, tender, flavorful, and mixed with just the right amount of celery for a little crunch. They come with a side of chips and pickles, which was a nice touch. I paired mine with an iced tea and it hit the spot. The space inside is cozy and on the smaller side, but the seating is super efficient and well laid out. There's also some outdoor seating, which adds to the charm. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive so we felt really well taken care of. If you're in Cohasset and craving a lobster roll that actually lives up to the hype, this is your spot, 5 South Main. This is a lovely little local spot. Pretty tight inside, but a concise menu of nothing but hits. The lobster roll is excellent -- a sturdy pile of fresh lobster, toasted bun, light touch of mayo and butter to make sure that lobster flavor comes through. So good. This place has a special sandwich has a special sandwich for everyone, I'll have one of everything. Unique ingredients, creative sandies. Did I mention they have lobster sliders? We just went to 5 south main for the first time and we were blown away. This place is adorable and so wholesome and hearty. It's a little English sunshine lit sandie shop with love baked into every nook and cranny. And there are a lot of nooks in this little large windowed haven to steal away in. We were waited on by Mary who was a joy and a pleasure to converse with. She was extremely friendly and easy to talk to and made us feel at home. The service here is excellent. I was even able to meet the chef to give him compliments. Most importantly, the food was on another level good. The sandwiches are perfectly constructed and melted together with all of the right melty ingredients that make them perfect handhelds. The ingredients are generously portioned and fresh. Flavor and creativity are clearly priorities here. The food is reasonable priced as the portions are huge. The pickles may be my favorite. Needless to say, we'll be back for some of their hearty, healthy, delicious soup and sandwiches to complement, love this place so much. read more

The wife and I came to Cohasset to spend the day planning a nice lunch and then a trail walk with our dogs. We chose 5 South Main because it had good reviews and fit our plans. I ordered the Lobster roll, and my wife had chicken salad to go. The food was fine, but extremely expensive, $63 for two sandwiches. We decided to sit at an empty cafe table outside the establishment. The manager came out to tell us we are not allowed to sit there, and if someone came and wanted to sit there that we would have to leave. This is outrageous. She basically dumbfounded us and ruined our meal, I simply couldn't understand under any circumstance why a manager would ruin our time by telling us we were not welcome to sit down. There were empty seats inside and the customer load was light. Very disappointed. She made us feel completely unwelcome, and basically put a stain on our day in Cohasset. read more

I have walked/driven past this spot so many times on the way to French Memories. If I wanted something for breakfast or lunch in Cohasset center, I had always felt that FM would get the job done; and it did. Plus I had this feeling that 5 South was just another one of their mediocre spots that can overcharge in a rich town. A restaurant like that just relied on its cutesy look to get you in the door and the food was just pedestrian. However, I wanted something different one day and decided to go against instincts. Probably a wrong decision... I came for lunch and service seemed somewhat cluster you-know-what. It took a while for a waitress to get to me, and yet the staff wasn't totally overwhelmed. There were a couple of clean small tables yet the waitress decided to make me wait for an unclean table to be cleared up and have me sit at that just cleared table. Puzzling. I ordered the Three Layer Turkey Club, and while I did get a pretty sizable sandwich, the picture on the restaurant's website is greatly exaggerated. You do get a lot of turkey and nominal amount of bacon. To the sandwich's "credit", the roof of my mouth was getting a good scratching from toasted bread and struggling to fit the sandwich into my mouth. However, size aside, the sandwich wasn't spectacular and was merely passable. The price point and lack of sides disappointed the most. For $9, you only get the sandwich. You won't get potato chips, salad, or anything on the side. All you get is a paltry slice of orange. I don't even recall having a refill on water. The floor of the restaurant was pretty atrocious, as I could see food and dust collecting around me. If you need lunch in Cohasset center, just go to French Memories instead. read more

Ordered dinner tonight for 5 South Main. First the woman who took my order was so pleasant! We ordered the bolognese and the meatloaf. It was outstanding. Just like a home cooked meal. The meatloaf had a fig glaze on it. I thought it might be too sweet but it wasn't. The mashed potatoes and green beans were cooked perfectly! The bolognese had a flavorful sauce not acidic and plenty of meat in the sauce. Would definitely order this again. Absolutely delicious! read more

I have been going to 5 South Main for years and always like the food. Their lobster roll is the absolute best even if it has gotten expensive with the market conditions. I also recommend the tuna melt. My husband always gets the spaghetti and meatballs and the salad with apples and walnuts. You can eat in or take out and it is excellent either way. Had given the old ownership a really poor review. 90% for incompetent service spread out over 4 visits. New owner ship Summer 2018 and we finally tried twice over the last two weeks. Hooray. Service and solid food. Lobster sliders on point. Haddock and lobster cakes all cooked very well. Tuna tartare well done. Finally, another place beside Bia to walk to in town and you can expect competence! One downside (native NYers) is the typical NE lack of flavor/spice/salt. Food is flavored but typical NE mild. It was a busy Saturday morning so it's understandable, but 3 wait staff looked at us and did not greet us or say anything. We felt uncomfortable waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes without greeting. Could be brought up quite a few notches by friendly service, removing the high chairs from touching the tables and moving to the back, and adding some interesting decor on the walls. Know what I've learned about 5 South Main since my well-apportioned breakfast wrap experience of 2012 (read below)? They can poach an egg. The toppers to my Crabby Cakes plate couldn't have hit the measures of a proper poaching any more perfectly: tender albumen cooked through without being rubbery, a golden river of flowing yolk, and (this is key) proper drainage before hitting the dish. Nothing saddens a bastardized Benny like the tears of bathed ova sogging up your English stack. Ugh, man up EGGS! I've also learned their new POS may call for an ticket mixup here or there. Show some patience iff'n you find yourself correcting a mis-order of French toast. #skynet Still as quaint and cozy as it ever was. And when I say "cozy," it's to the size of the space only. Here are the remains of my disgusting egg BLT of lies. No bacon, no avocado, no effing seasoning or cheese or sabor of any kind. About 4 times as much egg as anyone would want. Soggy and gross. Because I wasn't feeling well I did not have the sandwich to myself but did take a bite from my husband. It was delish! Three breakfasts. One winner, two meh. The benedict dishes - one the salmon special, one the crab cake - were meh. The hollandaise was thick and tasteless. One poached egg was perfect, the other had the yolk set up hard. "Home Fries" were served julienne style, overcooked and dry. Sides of bacon came late and greasy. No condiments on the table. The omelette was the winner of the bunch, robustly sized, with avocado. Service was slow, and the staff seemed stressed. And the electronic billing, though efficient, only gave a choice of no tip, 15%, 20%, 25%. One final comment: the light on the menu board is above a fan, and created a flashing reflection on the wall and on light colored clothing. Epileptics beware. We did like the option of going over to the bakery across the street to wait for our table, but in the end, $20 at the bakery, over $70 at the restaurant, was just too much for three people eating breakfast. There are a ton of good breakfast places in Hull, Hingham, Weymouth and Quincy. Not planning on returning to 5 South Main. read more

Swung by here on a beautiful Sunday - they were all out of lobster (originally wanted the lobster BLT, yelp pics make it look delicious). Instead, I got the tuna melt. So good. A good amount of tuna, crispy buttered bread, and just the right amount of melted cheese. Delish! I took it to go - but the place is really cute! $11 with tax - so yea, not a bargain sandwich but really good quality and they're generous with the tuna (I actually took some off) **UPDATE**: I've been here twice since for breakfast. I would not recommend this place for breakfast. Service is very slow - we waited an hour for our bfast. Then, all our omelettes were burnt (brown) - with no acknowledgement. Hashbrowns tasted freezer burnt. We thought maybe they'd offer free coffee for such slow service (mind you, we had a toddler with us so it was tough keeping her entertained for that long!) Second time I went, I got the waffles. They appear delicious but are bland and doughy. My husband got the lobster grilled cheese and loved it. All in all, this is a great sandwich shop but we will not be going again for breakfast. read more

This place was a 50 min wait to get food after being seated. We ordered a lobster roll, a grilled cheese, cup of soup, and a chicken sandwich for $70. 50 min wait is inexcusable when there are only 8 diners in the restaurant, and 5 people on staff. They offered no apology for the delay (service just didn't care at all) and were completely off their game. My husband and I went to Cohasset for dinner last night but had no plans on where eat. We thought we would just walk around and find a place. 5 South Main looked quaint and had a table right in the window available. We walked in and were greeted by a pleasant server. Two other diners were finishing up at another table, but otherwise it was empty. We ordered a couple of local craft beers and my husband asked our server if she would recommend the Bolognese or meatloaf. She said she "didn't eat meat, but that her husband loved the meatloaf and she brought it home for him all the time". My husband ordered the meatloaf and loved it. My Korean barbecue chicken sandwich was also very good. I felt it was strange that no one else was in the restaurant and looked on my phone at their website and realized that their hours were until 8. We had walked in at 7:50 but hadn't known! I apologized to our server for coming in so late and she said she "had lots of cleaning up to do" and "to take our time". We had a lovely time and will definitely be back. read more

My husband & I had lunch on a busy Saturday and LOVED it! We had Mary as our server and she was seriously the best!! Super attentive, wicked friendly and courteous! We were in town from Boston for a wedding at the Red Lion Inn next door and Mary was bummed she wouldn't be seeing more of us lol! There's always that one person you never really noticed. The one who's just always been there, consistent...solid...but a bit forgettable. Your parents probably brought them up every once in awhile, "Why don't you give _____ a chance? He's so...nice." Then one day Mr. Nice & Reliable throws you for a total loop. Like, walking into your local dive bar and finding that boring nerd from the office killing your favorite Clash song at karaoke. Or seeing your dorky neighbor pull up on his vintage Triumph looking all Steve McQueen. Ok. You have my attention. I've been to 5 South Main a handful of times. I've been for lunch and for breakfast, always finding their sandwiches and breakfast menu to be tasty but as soon as I was out the door I had no strong memory of the meal. The interior is charming. The location, in downtown Cohasset, is perfect. The service is friendly. It's all so...nice. But this last visit? Total game changer. I like cinnamon. I like sugar. I like butter. I like bread (Ok, I love bread). 5 South Main manages to combine these basic crowd pleasers into the all-time best French Toast I have ever had. They use fresh cinnamon bread from a local bakery, generously topping it with cinnamon sugar and sweet butter- making something drool-worthy and so much more than the sum of its' parts. Add maple syrup and I'm pledging my undying love. This dish was so perfect, so surprisingly good, I'll never deem 5 South Main forgettable again. The coffee was typical diner coffee - okay, not great - but next time I'd like to try a latte and see how the espresso compares. Pancakes are huge and fluffy, salads are creative and flavorful, sandwiches/wraps are very well realized. Downside: Seriously small dining room and lack of much of a waiting area makes busy mornings less than quick. read more
