Love this place! The food was so delicious and the service was very attentive to us. We started with an expresso martini & limoncello spritz which were strong, while still being very tasty. Then for a starter we got the risotto balls with had such great flavor, as well as coming out super fresh. We then went with the cheese pizza, drizzled with some sort of pesto and it was so good, the bottom has great undercarriage with no flop - so crispy! We opted out of dessert because we were too full but they still brought us these gingerbread tasting cookies - nice way to finish! Will most definitely be back soon. read more

Very cute place with a nice, small outdoor seating area. Our server/host was absolutely wonderful. He was so friendly and so accommodating! We ordered corn beef hash and Savory Crostata. My boyfriend loved his corn beef hash- looks small but very filling, rich and flavorful but wish it had more eggs. I didn't love the crostata. I heavily appreciated that the "greens" actually had other vegetables added to them to make it interesting and the potatoes were too crispy for me but that's personal preference. The crostata was good size and I loved the crust, I was just disappointed that it advertised goat cheese and I couldn't taste any. After eating we went inside to look at their pastry selection and they are absolutely beautiful!! We got the cream puff (gigantic and delicious), Nutella croissant (10/10 should get), and the butter cookie which was delicious but wish it was denser. Loved everything about the Via from the ambiance, welcoming staff, friendly customers and of course the food. This place makes their own bread so pace yourself. The pizzas are spectacular- deep dish style with a thin crust - and the toppings are light and fluffy. I don't know how they do this and the results are spectacular. The flavors simply pop. To start off, truly a fantastic experience. I went here with my mother a few weeks ago and can genuinely say that everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and sizable for the price. The ambiance was great, and the service struck the perfect balance between being attentive while still letting you enjoy your meal and time with your company. We had a 5:30pm reservation and ended up sitting there for about two hours. We were never once rushed or made to feel like we needed to "get things moving," even though the restaurant isn't particularly large and was continually full. Frankly, we rarely spend that long having dinner, especially when it's just the two of us, but everything was so good and the atmosphere so pleasant that we just didn't want to leave. We started with the Suppli' Cacio e Pepe (Arancini), which was delicious, as was the Chef's Caesar Salad. I will say the salad didn't really resemble a traditional Caesar, but I'm glad it didn't. It was much more interesting than your standard Caesar and was also quite a sizable portion. My mother had the Fettuccine Alla Sciue Sciue, which was excellent (I obviously had to try a bite), and I ordered the Ravioli, which, in keeping with the rest of the food, was fantastic. Both of us felt our meals were some of the best we can remember having in a very long time. By this point we were quite full, and neither of us typically orders dessert because we're not huge on it. But, as I mentioned, we were having such a nice time that neither of us really wanted to leave. We ended up ordering the Raspberry Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream, and it was truly a work of art. The combination of sweet, tart, warm, and cold was incredible. The tart itself seemed to have been freshly baked, and the flavor was outstanding. Pairing it with the cold vanilla ice cream was just perfect. We genuinely couldn't stop eating it until the plate was completely empty. I went into it thinking I'd have one bite because I was already full and don't really eat sweets, and somehow ended up having another three or four bites before there was nothing left. We visited last night with a party of eight....all agreed it was the best Italian food we've ever had...very hard to pick a favorite dish but among the top rated were the Cacao e Pepe and the ricotta ravioli...the 4 cheese pizza was excellent as well...the restaurant also serves as a bakery so the desserts were all uniformly good...our server, Jasmine was friendly, efficient and attentive Chef Stefano came out to greet the table and upon learning that we we first time visitors said "welcome home" ...that sort of says it all..I have a feeling Via Cannucia has inherited a new group of regulars read more

Gotta be one of the best pastry shops in the Boston area. Every time I visit, I am amazed at the selection and fresh baked goods that cover up the entire bar area. Anything cream filled is my favorite. The sourdough bread and baguettes are also top notch. It isn't the easiest place to get to but the trip is worth it. Street parking can be a bit of a pain. It's also tiny inside and will feel very crowded on a weekend morning when you have a line of people trying to grab pastries with as many tables as possible crammed inside a small space. The tables for brunch are usually filled so expect a wait. I haven't tried their coffee yet but they did look good. read more

Truly a hidden gem in Dorchester. Dare I say one of the best Italian spots I've had in my decade living in Boston? Everything we ordered was amazing. My favorite dish was the eggplant parm. I wish it was a larger portion because it was just that good. Highly recommend trying it even if you are not a fan of eggplant. Also ordered the short rib pasta which was super flavorful and had big chunks of tender short rib. Decided to order the small pizza to not get too full but was pleasantly surprised by the large size. I am literally in shock that this place exist right on Dorchester Ave lol Right across from Charlie's pizza, this cute restaurant/ bakery on the weekends is here. TIP : I believe they only service these delicious pastries on the weekends. I think they run out fast too so be there early! When I walked in, definitely a very nice welcoming feeling. It's a really cute spot for a coffee date or brunch. I've been told to come and try this lunch/dinner menu. I definitely will. Staff is super friendly. Croissant was so fluffy, crispy, and buttery. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Boston's best Italian food is not in the north end. I've been wanting to visit Via Cannuccia for over a year and it did not disappoint. The menu was simple but I wanted to order everything! I love when I feel excited about a menu. Not to mention the specials made the choice even harder. We started with the Caesar salad which they kindly split into two bowls for us. We shared a short rib dish (the special) and the cacio e Pepe. They were both fabulous. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes (and also brunch). The servers was friendly and very accommodating. The food was a bit slow to come out but we didn't mind. The restaurant was cute and well appointed and they managed to fit a good number of tables in the restaurant. This was one of my favorite meals of the year. Wow, wow, wow! What a fantastic find! Came here for brunch with some friends. Ordered the pasta in red sauce. (It had a fancier name, but i've forgotton it.) It was simple but FANTASTIC. I'm very particular about pasta, and this was absolutely perfect and better than I can make at home. The fresh pasta was perfectly cooked. The sauce was garlicky in a way I can never quite achieve at home. The staff at the restaurant were lovely, and it was 100% a fantastic experience. We live nearby, and can't wait to go back. Hard to understand why this place is so popular. What an incredibly mediocre meal. The squid salad was great but the meal went down hill from there. Risotto with scallops was watery and not hot, the pasta was eh and the service was okay. The ambiance was totally lacking. Adding insult to injury was the price- dinner for two wi wine and one dessert was nearly $400 w tip - seriously?!?! This is a super cute café that reminds me of Europe perfectly. They have amazing pastries here on the weekends, so I have gotten them a few times. But it was our first time coming for brunch. You can order pastries to eat at the table, and also order from their brunch menu. They have super friendly service, and the servers went out of their way to look for the headphone the had fallen on the floor for us. Exceptional. Every choice was delicious and intentional. Clam pizza was incredible (out of this world dough!), apps were amazing. Had a special short rib on the specials menu which is a must order. Risotto balls were wonderful and porchetta was surprisingly refreshing with the accompanying giardinera. Cod croquettes from the specials menu were crunchy and balanced. Eggplant parm was fantastically crispy in a way I've never had with eggplant before. Mezzi rigatoni was flavorful with perfectly cooked pasta. Also had the surf and turf ravioli from the specials menu which was also incredible and nothing like I've eaten before. Each raviolo had two sides, each with lobster or beef, but still connected; creativity was off the charts. Had just enough space for dessert (tres leches meets crème brûlée) and that was mindblowing too. Parking was tough but worth circling the block for street parking. A delightful Brunch with the ladies. We started with bottle of Casa Canevel Prosecco with Chambord. The Signature Savory Crostata with roasted rosemary potato's and green salad. The Frittata Ciociara was huge! (No sign of egg shortages here). The Brunch bar of breads and pastries was out of this world. So difficult choosing so we got different ones and shared. (Cinnamon Roll Croissant, Brioche Tart with lemon cream and Raspberry Crumble and a Mix Berry Danish). Finished up with chocolate espresso martinis and cappuccinos. This place is a *G*E*M*. Though probably no longer a hidden one given all of their recent well-earned accolades! The pastry bar on the weekends is where it's at. You have to get there early - the savory pastries run out first and quickly. The mushroom danish is top notch, and the croissants are so buttery and flaky. The maritozzo is also their specialty, a brioche bun filled with a light whipped cream. It's like a beignet in that there is no graceful way to eat it - the whipped cream and powdered sugar will get everywhere! The brunch menu is excellent! The frittata boscaiola is huge and packed with mushrooms, it also comes with a fresh salad and very crispy roasted potatoes - no limp home fries here. The uova al pomodoro is basically shakshuka, it is delicious and my only wish is that it came with more bread to soak up all of that savory goodness. The banana bread french toast is the perfect way to round out your brunch meal with some sweetness. Dinner menu = also excellent. It's all excellent. The suppli is like arancini, crispy on the outside and ooey gooey on the inside. I got this saffron risotto that had a perfect spread. The waitstaff are always so warm and friendly, and the service is attentive. I feel so lucky that I live within walking distance of this place, but street parking isn't an impossible task if I feel like driving over. The raspberry croissant was amazing - still warm out of the oven with perfect sweetness jam in the middle, so much jam that we also spread it on the chocolate croissant. The pastry on all was perfect - light and layered and beautifully crispy on the outside. Brunch choices were great and real Italian, not American. I don't really know how to describe the scrambled eggs, but I've never eaten anything like it before. It was a glorious concoction of eggs, tomato sauce and goats cheese. My real review is more of a 4.5 We had an amazing time at Via Cannuccia, there were just some kinks that need to be worked out, like any new restaurant does. I am from Italy myself, and I loved seeing that the owner is from near Rome. I love Roman food so I love the concept of authentic Roman food. The suppli was delicious, the fusilloni decadent yet light. One of the waiters is also Italian and I appreciated his kindness and him asking about what we thought about the food. You can tell they really care and want to make everyone's experience as outstanding as possible. I would say the pizza was a tad too crispy (not a real criticism for some I suppose, I just prefer the slightly more undercooked version we find in pizza al taglio in Rome), and the tiramisu was a bit thick for my liking. I've been a huge fan, sent many people there. Ate there last evening. Food is still great, however they have an issue with front of the house staff. Major issue seems to be a lack of training and understaffing. Runner was lost, came over with our entrees, before our appetizer plates were cleared. She simply stood there confused, until the solution dawned on her. Our waiter seemed to think the world revolved around him, and he was performing for the masses. OK waiter, but intrusive, overbearing, and in general too much, I don't want a damn show, i want a professional, that's taking care of my evening, not giving a "wonderfulness of me" performance Our table wouldn't allow it, but any table with a vacant seat at the table or near made him think it was a wonderful idea to pull up a chair, sit down with the guests, and take the order while chatting. Food is still great, but until their staffing issues are corrected, I don't see myself going back. Via Cannuccia needs to decide what image the front of the house is going to project, and train their staff to present that image. If you are looking for an authentic Italian dinner with an intimate vibe this is the place to go. On Dot Ave they foster a tucked in feeling and serve delicious dishes and drinks. You can tell the recipes are the chefs and can not be replicated elsewhere. I have gotten take out before which has been great but tonight we dined in. We got there at 5pm on the dot which is right when they open. There were already about 10 or so people filing in as we arrived. This is how you know it's a good place. By 6pm the place was almost completely packed and the 2 servers were running the show flawlessly. We got wine and a few cocktails all of which were delicious. The espresso martini tasted fresh which is always a great sign considering many restaurants batch theirs. We got the cacio e Pepe pasta and ravioli dish. They were both delicious but the ravioli's were out of this world. We then split the chocolate cake dessert and tiramisu which were also delicious. The chocolate cake was a small serving so if you want something light I would go in that direction. The tiramisu was a bit of a larger serving and easily shareable. read more

A must try. Started off with the Spicy Aperol Spritz... 10/10 recommend. We ordered the Cacio e Pepe Rice balls which were so delicious. We had to try the signora Eggplant Parmigiana which was served with the most flavorful and delicious pesto basil I've ever had. Rooting for the genuine success of this place, they've only been open for a month so still working through a few kinks. Took me 2 hrs to get there due to traffic. After calling the restaurant to cancel they were able to reschedule our reservation for an hour later (bonus points). First time here and walking in I could see it was a special quaint restaurant. Felt like a small restaurant in Tuscany, Opted to get the 3 bean soup special....best soup I've had in a very long time. Flavors, textures and visual appeal all in harmony. Freshly baked bread, baked on the premises, was fresh warm and tasty. Salad looked liked a work of modern art and tasted even better. Somehow we snagged a reservation for 4 at bar on a Sat nite. I'm told it's difficult to get in here. Two Small bars that seats about 10 in total. Open kitchen concept. A rather small place. Greeted by hostess with a smile and sat right down. I believe the bartenders name was Carmelo. Very pleasant and helpful with the menu. Menu is a tad limited. Lots of pizzas and a few different entrees along with a specials menu. We got the eggplant app and the Caesars salad ....eggplant was ok. The salad was an experience. Not your typical Caesar salad. It had all kinds of garnishes and flavors. We also tried these funky deep fried potato slices.Fries had a different rosemary type flavor. Very good. The bread was very fresh with a nice crusty top served with olive oil. We had to ask for butter. Nothing better than good old fashioned butter on a nice slab of fresh Italian bread . Entrees were the rib eye pork that was cooked perfect. With sides of broccoli rabe and mashed . I got the braised short rib with broccoli rabe and some sort of warm funky coleslaw on top. Weird thing was both the rabe and coleslaw had a touch of heat. Almost like an after burn. Weird but tasted great. We were too full this adventure to enjoy desert Overall it's not your typical Italian place that served spaghetti and meatballs or chicken Parm ,unless the change up the menu every so often ? One thing I always take note of is how clean the restrooms are. These here are impeccable. My experience is ...Clean bathroom=clean kitchen . Overall super fresh food ,very good service. The uova al pomodoro is like an Italian shakshuka and the sauce was great. We tried the brioche cream tart pastry with fresh raspberries and it was amazing! Will definitely try a croissant or other baked good next time (they're made fresh in house everyday). Prices are very reasonable and service was great. Wifey wanted to check out this new local Italian bakery and restaurant on Dorchester ave. We stopped by for some pastries and oh my they were all very good. Sorry, was too hungry to let the phone eat first. sorry not sorry. We got a honey cinnamon scone, blueberry muffin, cream filled croissant, and the raspberry tart. All of them were very good. Wifey thought the scone was too sweet but I thought it was perfect as is (she is the 30% sugar in her boba kinda gal). The blue berry muffin was the most interesting because it had little bits of chocolate chips in it. When wifey mentioned that after she tried it, I was reluctant to give it a try but I love blue berry muffins! That combination works really well, who knew and has been keeping this from us! The muffin was packed with blue berries with the bits of the chocolate chips at the muffin bottom edges. We will definitely check them out for brunch and dinner. They don't have an extensive dinner menu but everything is homemade so I don't mind as long as it's as good as their pastries! Welcome addition to the neighborhood and look forward to our next visit.
