Every time I visit Boston I always ask my colleagues for recommendations and MIDA came highly recommended. I did a little research on the menu before I got there so I already had my eyes set on the short rib lasagna - and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. The meat was super tender, the red sauce absolutely perfect. I was so full afterward I could've taken a nap right at my table. I also enjoyed an appetizer and an espresso martini, which was also delicious. The overall vibe of the south end location felt very intimate to me, a smaller restaurant but great for solo dining, group outing or a date night. It was pretty busy when I went on a Tuesday evening. But I just saw that ad a testament to how good the food and service must be. I will absolutely be dining here again on a future work trip.
I would give Mida 3.5 stars if I could. I enjoyed the ambiance especially for a dinner out with my friends. Our waitress definitely impacted my experience. I'm not sure if she was new, but the overall interaction seemed awkward and as if she didn't want to be bothered. I really enjoyed the sorrento spritz, which was surprising because I typically don't like grapefruit flavor. The drink was very refreshing and I also appreciate paying only $6 for a mocktail (places tend to overcharge). My favorite appetizer was the arancini. It was fried well and flavorful. The caesar salad was also great. The calamari were okay, but nothing special and they he focaccia was tasty, but I wish it was a little softer. For my entree I ordered the cacio e pepe gnocchi, which was also just okay in my opinion. I was looking for a bolder flavor, but unfortunately I didn't get that.
Listen! Baby! This place had me and my husband going through our photo files trying to remember what city we were in! This place from start to finish did not disappoint! The burrata was so fresh and delicious with the perfect amount of crunch with the pine nuts! I loved the crostinis so much they brought us more-- the pesto is AMAZING and if you love the fresh taste of olive oil and pine nuts, yum! We ordered the short braised rib lasagna and my husband had the toasted chicken. Both impeccable but mine was better! They made our night by bringing me a deconstructed version of tiramisu which was also delicious and the espresso was poured over it and so warm and fresh! The customer service and ambiance was truly amazing and for Boston in late July? We had the best experience! Highly recommend!
First, the location is downtown Boston! It's a cheeky interior with nice outdoor seating. Our server was Bernardo and he was great. I wasn't familiar with their red wines but told Bernardo what I was looking for. He nailed it! We had the Arancini as an app and could have eaten 3 more orders! I had the Mushroom Pappardelle and it was fabulous! Obvious homemade noodles, creamy white sauce, the perfect amount of mushrooms, topped with breadcrumbs (or cheese or both?) and lightly browned. So good! Highly recommend!
Expensive, highly disappointing high end food. I was expecting wonderful things from this restaurant and ended up paying a very expensive bill for something really lackluster. The staff is kind of curt and rude. They seem to forget that we the people have needs and values. Food is thrown at you (to your right), and it all goes downhill from there. I ordered the short rib lasagna and it looked and tasted like an Italian yodel. It is also something that tasted like something that is reheated in the microwave, and the look of something one would expect to get on a transatlantic flight to Italy. The whole thing left me angry, but one bad meal should not reflect the overall Boston Italian cuisine experience, which may be the best in the entire country (sorry New York, you have been overthrown). Stick to the North End or Rino's.

I expected my ricotta gnocchi to be as light and fluffy as the server said, it did not blow me away. At these pasta-forward Italian restaurants, I always always order the gnocchi. Nothing wrong with this one, but it seems basic and overhyped. I would not order it again personally. The focaccia (9/10) was covered in cheese which was a very nice touch. It was delicious. I would absolutely order that again. My only note is if we explicitly say "for the table as an appetizer", please dont have it arrive at the same time time as the rest of the food...
Had the best dinner at MIDA South End and I totally get the hype now. The vibe is super cozy but still lively. It's perfect for date night or just catching up over really good food. We started with the arancini and focaccia, both absolutely buried under a mountain of fresh parmesan (no complaints there). The focaccia was buttery and soft with that perfect crispy edge, and the arancini were golden, cheesy, and everything you want in comfort food. For mains, I got the mushroom pappardelle. The noodles were silky and the sauce had that rich, earthy flavor that makes you not want to share. It was LOADED with mushrooms. My boyfriend got the brasato al vino rosso (braised beef), and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. super tender and packed with flavor. Service was great too, friendly, helpful, and they timed everything perfectly. If you haven't been, definitely go. It's one of those places that makes you wish you ordered one more thing just so you could stay longer.
A small, fun Italian spot. We wanted to try a new Italian restaurant and MIDA was recommended to us by a local. The service was excellent as we were only 1 of 4 tables filled at our early time. The food was very good, but in a city full of great Italian, MIDA did not stand out. The short rib lasagna was the standout with a succulent and plentiful amount of beef and a sweet and savory tomato sauce. The chicken was very good as was the amatriciana. The mushroom pappardelle was one note. All-in-all a nice experience that we would not write home about.
Between struggling to find a reservation that wasn't so late and the reviews online, I had high expectations for this place. We were finally able to secure a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:30. We arrived right on time, but the hostess informed us the people who were sitting at the table that was going to be ours was finishing up, but it would be ready soon. During this time, I took the opportunity to look around, and I concluded that it's a cute restaurant that has used every inch of its space quite well; it was packed in there. It was also dim, relying on the windows to bring in most of the light for a tranquil feel. They have a bar area, a couple of long tables, but also high tables for two and booths hugging the windows. After about 10 minutes, we were seated. We did not order any starters so we could satisfy our hunger with the entrée. I went with their rock shrimp carbonara to play it safe, and my friend ordered their paccheri bolognese. The presentation was nice, but after taking my first bite, I was disappointed. It felt like all the flavors were diluted. I am used to eating carbonara that has a thick, flavorful sauce clinging to every surface area of noodle, salty, smoked flavor from the guanciale or pancetta, and cheesiness from the Parmesan. But, the sauce on this was very watery and the pork was prosciutto which wasn't quite as salty. The shrimp was a different take, but I felt it further diluted the flavor since shrimp has a neutral flavor. I had a couple bites of the bolognese. Although I thought it was better than the carbonara, I thought it too lacked a "wow" flavor. It was pretty. standard, but I will say the pasta shape was unique and it worked in keeping the sauce in, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The prices weren't too bad - somewhere around $25 - $28 (each) for our plates.
Solid place. Favorites were the mushroom pizza and bolognese, other dishes were good but nothing special. Went with a big group and they were great with it!

Went to dinner at MIDA and the experience was good, but the dish I got was the vegan dairy pasta, and it was okay but the mushroom flavor was so potent that the dish was almost hard to eat, and I love mushrooms. My sister had the gnocchi and it was amazing and my friend got the salmon and it was also good. So we liked the experience but it didn't blow my mind.
I really liked the ambiance here. The music was great and added to the overall vibe but wasn't too loud. Service was overall friendly from the host to the waitress. Overall the food was ok. There were some hits and misses. For instance, the carrots were absolutely amazing and were complimentary due to a mix up while the gnocchi cacio e Pepe was too oily and separated too much. The Caesar salad was delicious but my husband wasn't impressed by the short rib lasagna and said it was cold and lacked flavor. I tasted it and agreed.

Great food, lovely ambiance, and awesome waitress! Perfect GNO or date night spot. I really liked both of the entrees we ordered. - - The lasagna was a hearty, comforting bite. Adding short rib as the protein gave the classic dish a unique but welcome twist. I was a fan! - The rock shrimp carbonara was al dente (and made with bucatini!!) and covered in the perfect amount of creamy sauce. No notes there. Also huge shout out to our waitress (who we unfortunately did not get the name of). She helped us pick a delicious wine, and made our night a bit more entertaining. read more
Was excited to try this place because of all the reviews but I have to admit I'm confused. The highlights of our night were our server Daniel, their olive oil, and the deconstructed, wacky tiramisu. Daniel was super friendly, checked on us a lot, and offered a lot of suggestions including a red wine that is now my boyfriend's favorite. The free bread they give you came with some of the best olive oil I've ever eaten. Lastly, The tiramisu is not like any I've tried before but I honestly really liked it. It was super fresh and the espresso they pour over it is delicious. The rest of the food was meh. -North Shore Fritto Misto: 4/5, average squid:pepper ratio, fried well so they were not too chewy, great sauce. -Foccacia: 3/5, fluffy and soft but pretty boring unless you dip it in your pasta sauce. -Lasagna: boyfriend 4/5, me 2.5/5. I thought it was really salty and all I could taste was rib, no other components. Important to note though this was not my entree and I only had a few bites. -Bolognese: 1/5, the pasta cooked so well gave this a point otherwise the sauce was super thin, there was like no meat, and all I could taste were scallions. read more
MIDA has been one of my favorite restaurants in the South End for years. Great Italian food, a relaxed neighborhood feel, and proudly Black-owned. It's one of those places I'm always comfortable recommending. On this visit, the Smoked Short Rib Lasagna was the reason for coming in, and we both ordered it. This is not your typical lasagna. The short rib adds a rich, smoky flavor, layered with cheese and surrounded by plenty of tomato sauce. It's hearty without trying to be overly complicated. Just really good comfort food. We also started with the Bresaola Plate, bread with olive oil, and I had a MIDAríta to drink. What I've always liked about MIDA is that it feels approachable. You can come for a casual dinner, date night, or just because you're craving a good plate of pasta. The food remains the focus. For me, MIDA is a South End staple and a restaurant I'll continue coming back to. read more

Third time's the charm! My first 2 visits to Mida's Eastie location didn't impress (gorg views though), but their South End spot was a winner. While the foccacia was too oily and service was subpar, the eggplant parm, olives, mushroom pasta, burrata, and almond cake were a hit! Great spot for veg options! read more
I will forever think about this lasagna. You combine 2 things the beauty of short rib and the delicious layers of love with a lasagna. The twist on this classic dish is a match made in heaven, so much so that not only did we get it but it seemed every other table did too. A real crowd pleaser. The server was great he was kind, tended to us without even asking. Restaurant was modern and clean. I will definitely come back and recommend this dish to all my friends. I'm from San Diego and was in Boston for a work conference when I stumbled upon Mida after seeing it on TikTok...and I'm so glad I did! I came in on a Thursday and was thrilled to find out they had a buck-a-shuck oyster deal. I ordered six oysters and the seafood risotto, and both were absolutely amazing. The oysters were fresh and perfectly briny, and the risotto was even better than I could have imagined...creamy, flavorful, and loaded with seafood. You can really taste the difference in seafood quality here compared to back home in San Diego. Also, shoutout to their dirty martinis. strong, perfectly balanced, and chef's kiss I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Boston! read more

Delicious Italian food in a chic, cozy environment. Came here recently with a friend for a late Sunday night dinner. Unfortunately they were out of bread, but I know from having been to another location that their bread slaps! Ordered a glass of wine and for dinner got the risotto with roasted chicken. It was delicious! Creamy mushroom risotto with a nicely seasoned chicken atop. Mida's food never disappoints and the portions are always generous. Great service as always. Quality food, attentive customer service, and overall great atmosphere. I love Mida and am excited that the chef's recipes are featured at the Logan Airport Chase Lounge (that's how good this place is). The lasagna is meaty and tasty - you can't go wrong with the classic carbonara. read more

It wasn't just that the food was fabulous, the whole experience was so as well. Amanda our server, saw to our every need. She was informative, funny and helpful from how to avoid allergy issues for one in our party to balancing our appetizer selections with our entree choices. She saw to our needs throughout. Mathew, the assistant manager was also a delight! He made an excellent wine selection that paired well with all our choices and was also very attentive. Everyone seemed happy to be working at Mida. Our food was similarly lovely including the Caesar salad, the burrata, the salmon! (Would love to know how they charred the skin, it was so delicious). I casually mentioned that the beans with the salmon were so good they could be a meal on their own and lovely Amanda brought us the beans to go! The lasagna deserves the raves it gets. Went for Dine Out Boston week and had the best time - not only was it a great deal ($46 for an app, entree and dessert) but they were able to accommodate gluten free needs AND the food was delicious. One of the best gluten free pastas I've ever had. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Food- The food was delicious. We ordered the rock shrimp Carbonara( good flavor, but the shrimp was tiny) The bolognese(flavor and texture was on point) Salad( no complaints) and the Arancini, which was crispy on outside and soft in the inside. So so good! Service- Our waiter was okay not very friendly or enganging. He could improve his customer service skills and be more welcoming. Ambiance- The restaurant is really nice, clean and modern. Overall good food, nice atmosphere. I would come back and hope I get another waiter. read more

The drinks are good especially the spicy pomegranate drink, amalfi coast and wine selections. Appetizers the glazed duck wings were one of the best things I've eaten except they weren't wings they were drumsticks but delicious, the calamari was crispy and flavorful. The mussels were ok not much to rave about there. We got the short rib ravioli entree which was $27 for a portion of 2.5x2 inches it was delicious and the flavors were all there but portion for the price they've got to do better! It was also luke warm and got cold fast. Be sure to reserve your table or you'll be sitting at the bar! A hightop if you're lucky. I'd come back for drinks or those apps we had. Great ambiance and service! Very attentive waitstaff and a great choice of dishes. We started with the mussels and bread which I highly recommend. I loved the eggplant parm - perfectly tender and flavorful. Truly a great spot for a night out! read more
