Sorellina is the kind of place that makes you want to suddenly speak softer and order expensive wine you absolutely cannot pronounce. Everything about it feels very polished, dim lighting, insanely chic crowd, dramatic interiors, and that classic Boston "finance dinner but make it sexy" energy. Definitely a place where everyone somehow looks expensive. The lobster gnocchi seems to be the dish people become emotionally attached to, and after seeing it mentioned approximately everywhere, I get it. Also hearing very strong arguments for the truffle mafaldine, veal Milanese, Wagyu meatballs, and literally anything involving their pasta program. The ricotta donuts and tiramisu also seem fully mandatory. What I like about Sorellina is that it doesn't try too hard to be trendy. It's just confidently elegant. Very "old money meets modern Italian restaurant" in the best way. Wow, I loved this place. Our server was outstanding. We (again) decided our brains were too fried to order. Even though they did not have a tasting menu our server put together a wonderful array of dishes and total tab was very reasonable given the amount of food, ambience, and quality of food. We had a total of 8 dishes and total came out under $300. We started with the tuna which was nicely seasoned with a kick, then went on to Al dente handmade pasta with zucchini (?) - very very good, I didn't want the meatball dish so our server subbed it was a truffle pasta with mushrooms - WOW loved this one! We had a great dinner at Sorellina! The restaurant has as great atmosphere - dimmed lighting, nice table settings, and not too loud. Our waitress was also spectacular. Attentive, informative, and super nice! For food - we tried the tuna appetizer first. It was amazing except for the Dijon spread at the bottom. I did not care for that part. We also tried the lobster gnocchi, and the filet mignon. The filet was amazing - highly recommend. The lobster was fun to try but I can't say I would recommend as your only dish. It has way too much butter in it so it's rich after a few bites. We split the gnocchi and filet between 2 of us and that worked better. The desserts were awesome too - we tried the tiramisu, chocolate cake and the donuts. We also tried the espresso martinis (it was a big night lol). The donuts and the martini were the winners but everything was very good! The pricing is high - as expected, given the caliber of the restaurant. Some of the portion sizes were smaller than I was expecting but overall the bill was in line with other high end steak houses. We will be back to try it again! read more

I don't know how he remembered it all. They kept our glasses full so someone was always watching the table. I started with six oysters followed by a veal chop. The oysters had cucumber mignonette on them rather than cocktail sauce. The veal chop was nice and tender, medium rare just like I like it. We had kale and mushrooms as sides. Our friend told us about this place so of course we had to try it since it was across the street from our hotel. We made a reservation just in case it was busy. We arrived on time and we were greeted right away by the hostess. We waited a few minutes before being seated. We ordered a nice bottle of red wine which price wise was really good. Our waiter brought us some hot bread that was delicious. We ordered the Kobe beef meatballs as an appetizer and they came out right away. They didn't look like your normal meatballs but once you sliced them up, they were delicious and the noodles with complimented them. No marinara sauce which was even better. Our entrees were the lamb chops and the Fettuccini with Black truffle sauce. The lamb was so tender, cooked perfect, and great flavor. The fettuccini had so much flavor with the truffle sauce and the noodles cooked perfect. The desert doughnuts were light and fluffy and delicious. Our waiter was nice and fantastic during our whole meal. The place is a really nice restaurant, but not to fancy. We visited Sorellina for NYE and were a bit underwhelmed. From the reviews we read we were expecting more authentic Italian and it felt "swanky" and "showy". We sat at the bar which was fine (a bit squished) and the service was ok. They were very busy but when you're paying that price tag for food, we were expecting more attention, help, wine guidance, etc. It's very dark inside so bring your glasses if you're over 40 to see the menu. Lastly, they are not big portions. Don't come here if you're looking for a lot of food, it's not the place. We are regulars here. Recent experience hasn't been great. Today is terrible - I was judged and forced to leave tips. The waitress (Angelica G.) handed me the check, and I left my credit card as usual. Then she said to me - do you want to leave tips? It's not included in the price - pointing to three boxes of tip amount to choose from and handing me back the pen to circle one. She talked as if I don't understand the tipping system and she was so afraid that I am just gonna walk without leaving anything. I felt coerced and circled the tip. I also thought this may be the new policy now that you have to choose tip up front - it's not, she came back with the pay slip with the tip amount written by her (based on what I was coerced to choose) for me to sign. I don't know if this is how employees are trained these days at Sorellina or what. But it made really uncomfortable, and it just felt wrong. read more

Booked a reservation here for my parents' anniversary dinner on a Sunday evening and I'd say it was a sub-par experience. We got seated fairly quick since we had a reservation and our waitress came by within the first 10 minutes to take our order except we weren't ready. She then didn't come by again until around 25-30 minutes after that. It was actually super frustrating because we also didn't see her walking around and couldn't flag her down. Finally, she came by and took our orders. About 10 minutes later, she comes back and asks us for our orders again, presumably because she forgot. Our orders didn't arrive until probably another 30 minutes after that interaction. We ordered truffle fries, maccheroncelli, lumache, gnocchi, ribeye, roasted mushrooms, and tiramisu for dessert. Truffle fries were great. Maccheroncelli was very underwhelming and I actually prefer store-bought meatballs to the ones in this dish. Lumache was too al dente for me personally but the bolognese with bone marrow butter was well done. Gnocchi was good and had a decent amount of lobster chunks although the dish was small for the price. Ribeye could've been plated better as it was just individually placed on a plate with two quarters of a tomato on a separate plate as accompaniment. A dollop of mashed potatoes would be a better combo. Roasted mushrooms were delicious to me but not worth the price tag. Dessert was tasty but nothing extraordinary. Overall, whole experience was just very meh. I booked this place because it had a lot of great reviews on Yelp and I was trying to find someplace special to take my parents but I was generally pretty disappointed. I would personally not come back again. The two stars is for the truffle fries, gnocchi, and the classy interior. If you do decide to visit, note that valet parking is another $30. read more

Sorellina is worth all the hype and praise for the menu and ambiance. If there is a drawback, it's that the menu carries a price point that is at the top of most Boston restaurants. The food is totally worth the price, but some will scoff that Italian food should not have the same price as a steakhouse, which the decor is reminiscent of. POLPO (5/5) - Delicious octopus dish with the chewy octopus, the nice addition of the couscous, and the freshness of the cherry tomatoes. Also a really nice serving -- could have it as your main! 5. Salmon (5/5) - I didn't personally have this but the fish lover of our group had it and said it was one of the best salmon dishes he has ever had. Extremely high praise coming from him. 6. Romaine (Ceasar) (5/5) - One of the best ceasar salads we've ever had, not slathered in dressing (perfectly dressed), had a really nice acidity too, cool "crouton" 7. Cioccolato (Chocolate lava cake) (5/5) - Absolutely delicious without the lava being so melty that it spills everywhere and you don't even get to eat it. This isn't anything special but it sure is delicious. 4 people could each have a spoon of this. 8. Sides (4.5/5) - We got the mushrooms and broccoli rabe sides which were all table favorites. 9. Tiramisu (4/5) - Unlike a lot of other tiramisus I've had. Creamy vs cakey. Has full espresso beans which was a nice touch but I personally wasn't a fan of the mint on top. Another member of our party LOVED it. 6 people could each have a spoon of this. 10. Mafaldine (3.5/5) - This is the mushroom pasta. I've read positive reviews of this dish but it didn't quite meet expectations. Came by with a big group for a friend's birthday - it was nice that we were able to get a res for a Sunday dinner for a big party on fairly short notice. Overall, really great experience - our server was super, super engaging and helpful, answering any questions we had about the food, and he was also super knowledgable in helping us pick a wine to order, too. I ordered the lumache, which was in a bolognese sauce with a nice parmesan and with bone marrow butter - a really great choice! The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was very rich and flavourful. Other highlights that other people ordered were the ribeye (SO big, and so tender and juicy) and the gnocchi. The scallops had a slightly less welcome reception - not bad, by any means, but probably not worth the price, especially with other good options. We ended with three desserts to share - the limone, cioccolato, and tiramisu. The limone was by far my favourite - amazingly balanced lemon curd between sweetness and tartness - with a nice touch of meringue. The tiramisu was good, too - not too sweet - but nothing too amazing, I'd say; and the cioccolato was also good but not great (a bit too heavy for my taste). Sorry but I found this whole experience pretty disappointing. The only thing that I really enjoyed was the Caesar salad, the romaine was very fresh and the Caesar dressing had the right mix of ingredients. It's hard to find a good Caesar salad these days. But it was a lot of work to eat because the Romaine leaves were whole and I had to cut them all up, without a sharp knife. Also it arrived immediately, before I even received my cocktail. The place was extremely packed on a Saturday night and all of the servers looked rushed and stressed. The timing seemed to be off on everything. I can't say anybody was very friendly because they didn't have time to be. This is a huge restaurant and obviously very popular but I would not return. It's very expensive and supposed to be a fine dining experience and yet it felt more like a factory. I was very excited to order the fettuccine with mushrooms and black truffles and Parmesan, because those are all things I . That's a hard thing to screw up but they managed to by completely over salting it to the point where you couldn't almost taste anything but the salt. The mushrooms were in tiny pieces and they were not fresh, they all looked and tasted like they had been rehydrated from dried. I was really expecting a beautiful mix of fresh wild mushrooms, with a touch of cream, but It was more of a brown sauce. I ate most of it because I was very hungry and I didn't want to be a complainer. I did tell my server about the oversalted-ness after the fact and she was very apologetic, They did send the manager over too who also apologized. Obviously if I had said something at the beginning they would've remade the dish for me without all the salt, so that was my bad for not speaking up sooner. But I was a woman dining alone in a fancy restaurant on a Saturday night in a strange city and I didn't want to be there any longer than necessary. The dessert was nothing special either. A second server had recommended it, it was donuts and vanilla gelato, but really nothing out of the ordinary. Sorellina had been on my list since before I moved to Boston, and I decided to come over tonight. I was able to snag a reservation at the bar, which is just the perfect speed when I'm solo dining. The dining room and bar areas are nicely lit, with audible and relaxing music in the background. Upon checking in, the staff noted my seafood allergy, which was again confirmed by the bar attendant and conveyed to the chef--much appreciated! After a few minutes at the bar, I noticed that several of couples nearby were clearly regulars. They were friends with Gino, who was supervising the younger gentleman at the bar. I always like it when restaurants have that special touch for their frequent guests. I told Gino that I'm a fan of bold, tannic reds and asked for a pairing recommendation for the veal Milanese. He immediately suggested the Barbaresco (I've rarely found a wine that I didn't like from the Piedmont region). It was lovely on its own and with the veal, and I've saved it to my Vivino to find at a shop later. The arugula salad was...well, first of all, it was huge! A very healthy portion of arugula accented with wonderful truffled pecorino moliterno cheese at the bottom. They had also put some freshly cracked pepper on there, and it was as if the pepper was jumping off the plate. Really a very refreshing salad. As an entrée, I had the bone-in veal Milanese, which is perhaps the most perfectly cooked veal I've ever had anywhere. Not only was the outer skin crispy and flavorful, but the veal was cooked perfectly. In fact, this makes me wonder why I haven't seem more bone-in preparations. Atop the veal was a small portion of arugula and its friend the pecorino cheese, along with some slightly blistered tomatoes. This dish was very good, although just a hair short of "eyes rolling in the back of the head" good. That's ok, because I'll just have to come back and try additional dishes to see if we get there! I'll be interested to sample something from their cocktail menu next time, and I'd love to take advantage of dessert. I was about to pop tonight but rarely pass up dessert in the grand scheme of things, so for all these reasons, I won't be able to let too much time pass before I return to Sorellina. Small portion sizes. $50 for a cup of gnocchi is kind of absurd. It was tasted fine, but severely overpriced. The service was fine, just much better options out there for your money. read more
